Finally Loved

Chapter 2.

Later That Night….

“Well, Naruto. This is where you will be sleeping from now on. I know it’s not much, but it has a warm bed and soft pillows and is all yours. Now you must be very tired after your trip so you should get some rest. We will speak tomorrow. If you need anything I will be at the end of the hall on the right.” Iruka said.

He set Naruto’s bags on his bed then turned and started out the door. But before he shut it he turned and looked Naruto in the eye. “I know what you’ve gone through at your last foster homes. And that your probably scared that I will turn out to be like them. But I assure you I will NEVER do those things. TO ANYONE. You’ve been through a lot more stuff than someone your age should have to deal with. And I’m sorry that you did. I guess what I’m trying to tell you is that you can trust me. I know that it may take you awhile to do that but I just want you to know that you can. Trust me, that is. I’m here for you, and so are the others. They’ve been through some things too. I know that they may be able to understand what you have been through better than I can, but if you talk to me I promise that I will do my best to understand. Well, I guess I better leave you to it then, goodnight Naruto. We are all happy you’re here. We hope that we have made you feel welcomed.” then, with a smile, he turned and left.

Naruto let out a sigh as soon as the door clicked shut. ‘Finally. He made me wait all day to show me to my room.’

He turned away from the door and took in his surroundings. Iruka was right, it wasn’t much. It was fairly empty. A bed was in the left corner of the room. It wasn’t a big bed but it wasn’t small either. It was covered in blue bed sheets with a black and red comforter on top. He liked that comforter, it had a picture of a demon fox with red eyes and nine tails and engulfed in orange flame. The bed also had three big pillows on it, pillow cases the same color as the bed sheets.

Next to the bed was a nightstand. On top was an alarm clock, a lamp, and a cellphone. A cellphone? Was that for him? He’d have to ask Iruka tomorrow.

On the right side of the room was a desk. It had a laptop computer resting on top of it with a lamp beside it. There was a pen holder over in the corner of the desk. In the middle draw he found a few spiral notebooks and a pack of pens and pencils.

‘Hm, must be for school. I am supposed to start that next week. Great a new school too.’ Naruto thought.

He turned to face the wall on which the door was located. On the right side of the door, right across from the bed was a dresser. Next to it was the closet. The closet wasn’t big. It was basically just a hole in the wall.

And on the other side of the door stood a shelf with a small stereo and a few cds. He took a look through the cds and found that he really liked them all. He put them back and turned back to unpack his things.

He didn’t have much, just a suitcase of clothes and a small bag of possessions, which consisted mostly of cds and books, and one picture. He quickly unpacked the bag. He rearranged the shelf so that the cds and books would fit on there. Then he put the picture on the nightstand.

With that bag finished he started on his suitcase of clothes. He dumped the case out and started to separate his clothes to put them away. He put all his shirts and coats in one pile to hang in the closet. He also put his belts, hats, and a scarf in that pile as well. And in the other pile (the one to go in the dresser) were his pants, boxers, socks, and pajamas. Before he could start to put away the clothes though, he was interrupted by a knock on the door.

“Come in.” He called out. When the door opened Naruto was surprised at seeing the person standing there. He definitely wasn’t expecting to see this particular person. He got the impression that the boy didn’t like him.

“Hey Gaara, what’s up?” Naruto asked.

“I just came to ask if you needed anything. Would you like me to help you unpack or something?”

“Um, well, I am pretty tired and I guess if you help I can get done with this faster, so yeah, that would be great. If you could hang up these shirts and coats and stuff in the closet I’d appreciate it. Thanks for offering.”

“Hn. No problem.”

Gaara walked to the closet and grabbed a bunch of hangars, then walked back to the bed and began to put the shirts on them. Meanwhile, Naruto started to refold his jeans and things and put them in neat piles to go into the dresser.

All was silent for a while and Naruto couldn’t stand it. The quiet was driving him crazy. So he decided to break it.

“Ssssooooo…….Gaara…….why did you come in here and offer your help?”

“You didn’t want my help? I could leave if you’d like?”

“No no! It’s just that I kinda got the impression earlier that you didn’t like me. So I was just wondering.”

“I give that impression to a lot of people. And they are all right. I don’t like people. But I do like you. I’m sorry if I gave you the wrong impression. That’s just who I am. But I do like you. A lot.”

“Ummm. Thanks I think. I like you too.”

Silence engulfed the room again. And again, it was driving Naruto crazy. But he didn’t know what to talk about. He finished folding his clothes and so started to put them away in the dresser.

He desperately tried to find something to talk about. He needed to get rid of the silence. But his need was answered when Gaara decided to break the silence this time.

“So do you like it here so far?”

“Yea, its cool. Iruka is really nice. Do you like living here?”

“Yes, I’ve been here for going close to seven years. Me and my brother and sister. I’m sure you will like it here. Iruka really is nice. He’s the best.” Gaara turned and started to hang up the clothes in the closet. When he finished he turned back around and looked at Naruto. He watched in silence as the blonde boy put the rest of the clothes away in the dresser. He didn’t want to leave so he sat down on the bed and waited for Naruto to finish.

When he did finish he turned around to find Gaara sitting on his bed and staring at him. ‘Why is he just staring at me like that? Do I have something on my back? Like a spider or something?’

“Hey Gaara? Why are you just staring at me like that?”

“Oh sorry. I kinda spaced out. Well, I’m sure you want to get some sleep. I just wanted to make sure you were comfortable. And that I wanted to tell you that…….hn, never mind, it’s not important. I’ll tell you some other time. Good night.”

Then he got up and left.

‘Huh, I wonder what that was about. He just came in, offered help, started to tell me something then stopped and walked out suddenly. Man I am too tired to think about it. I think I will skip my shower tonight. I just want to go to sleep. I’ll take one in the morning.’

Naruto sighed again. His fears coming back to him. He knew that it would be different this time. He could feel it, but he still couldn’t help but be scared that it could change.

‘I just need to have faith. Not everyone is the same. I know that there are some who are different. Just stop it Naruto. He isn’t going to hurt you like the others. I know he’s not.’

He stripped down to his boxers and then crawled into the bed. It didn’t take him long to
fall asleep. Only about ten minutes.

Tomorrow is a new day
