Chapter Two

In answer to Arwin's question. - Naruto lives in Kowloon Walled City. You can find info on it on wiki. It's not underground but at one time it was one of the most densely populated places on Earth. It was also lawless. Kowloon is in Hong Kong. Sasuke lives in the Kwun Tong district of Kowloon. I hope that clears things up a bit for you. Their school is fictional in the Kowloon Bay area.

“Sasuke-kun!” He knew it, the silence that had graced his quick get-away was no more after he’d found somewhere to sit and eat his lunch.
“Sasuke-kun, hello! My name’s Sakura.” The pink haired girl stood in-front of the stoic youth with a wide smile across her features, green eyes sparkling with adoration as she clasped her lunch-box tightly in both hands. The look of hope she had plastered on her face made the raven haired teen inwardly cringe.
“...Hn...” Was the extent of his answer before he returned his gaze to the tomato salad taking up half of his lunch-box. After all, the girl was now blocking his view of the playing field.

Obviously the girl took that as an invitation to sit, because moments later Sasuke was aware that she’d settled down beside him looking rather smugly across the way at a seemingly fuming blonde girl. He rolled his eyes and resisted the urge to hunch over and curl in on himself – because an Uchiha didn’t slouch. At least not in public.

The silence was almost tangible between the two teens as Sasuke tried to force himself to finish his food despite the discomfort of being so close to a fawning girl. Sakura was still smiling brightly as she opened her lunch and placed the box neatly on her lap, a soft blush gracing her cheeks in a way which was barely noteable.

As the scene unfolded before his eyes Naruto felt a surge of indignation, swiftly followed by a grumble of his stomach as he watched them eat. The blonde had skipped breakfast after all, and wouldn't have any money for food again until after his shift at work later on; This obviously meant he was going to have to skip lunch as well, and the thought almost made him even more grumpy than the prospect of his crush eating with the smug new guy, looking all happy and shy.

Gritting his teeth for a moment before puffing his cheeks out in irritation Naruto stalked over to the pair who were sitting on a bench under a covered area at the side of the building. Half way there changing his expression to a wide over the top grin for Sakura's benifit. The blonde flopped into a seated position in the rather small gap between the two, leaning back on his hands as he spoke.
"Hey Sakura~!" He said sunnily, completely ignoring the Uchiha to his left that was giving him an odd look... well, as odd as one could whilst still looking expressionless.
"Naruto!" The pink haired girl said in shock and annoyance, mainly because her veiw of Sasuke had been partially obscured by the blond. "What-..." She paused and forced her voice to become pleasant. "What's the matter?"
He could see the irritation on her face and pouted. "Eh? We always eat lunch together! ... Well... you eat, I watch." He grinned and rubbed the back of his head.
"Yes...but... today I thought it would be nice if I had lunch with Sasuke. Since he's new and all." She peered around Naruto to give the said boy another smile, a little awkward this time.

Sasuke tuned the conversation out after that point, averting his gaze from the back of a blonde adorned head and down to his salad again. His quiet space had suddenly become very noisy and he wanted more than anything to escape to some-where else, but he hadn't been at the school long enough to discover a more secluded spot. Still... half the company was at least amusing.

Shoving a halved tomato in his mouth Sasuke sent a sidelong glance toward the pair who were half arguing half joking beside him now. His gaze lingering on Naruto who was waving his arms animatedly and the dark haired youth wondered how someone who lived like he did managed to stay so up-beat.

Of course Sasuke knew well where Naruto lived - not the exact building or anything, but the area. He also knew his financial issues and where he worked part time after school. His brother had some not very law abiding 'friends' in the form of Triads living in the walled city, and as a result he'd found out about Naruto when he'd gone with his brother one day to meet someone passing themselves off as a doctor in the dingy streets.

He'd seen the blonde sitting outside what could loosely be described as a bar with an older man, talking animatedly and getting agitated over some kind of book the older male was trying to shove in his hands. Sasuke had been transfixed at that point, Naruto had seemed so sunny and out of place in such dark, dirty surroundings and the raven haired teen had found an unfamiliar knot forming in the pit of his stomach.

Since then he'd done a little more research, curiosity was often something that struck him concerning academic subjects this was the first time it had been a person. Of course his brother had no idea of this, and if he did he'd kept uncharacteristically quiet about it all. Naruto was in no way connected to the Triads as far as Sasuke could tell, and the only trouble he was ever in revolved around play fights in school that had gotten out of hand, and the less documented bouts of bullying that Naruto seemed to keep deathly silent on.

Blinking out of his daze, Sasuke noticed it had gone quiet and two sets of eyes were upon him, one an enviable green color and the others a brilliant blue. He resisted the urge to utter an unintelligent 'huh?' and instead opted for lifting an eyebrow. "What?" He finally said, sounding a little agitated.
"You were staring at me for ages, creeped me out!" Naruto said, oddly free of his earlier dislike for the dark haired teen. For the moment.
Sasuke blinked then slowly turned his gaze down again and closed his lunch box, obviously not going to finish his food. "I was just wondering how you became such an idiot." He stated before standing and flashing a smirk down at the spluttering blonde. "Later."
"W-wh-WHAT!?" Naruto blurted after Sasuke was already half-way to the buildings entrance. The only thing stopping him getting up and following Sasuke to deliver a swift blow to his smug face was Sakura's hand on his arm.
"I'm sure he didn't really mean it, Naruto... Maybe he's just feeling out of sorts in the new environment." She was quick to defend the new boy, which just made Naruto feel a little numb inside.
He stopped and went limp, hanging his head and muttering an "Mhmm..." He couldn't bring himself to be perky again for the moment. It was like he'd been deflated by the way she'd acted. She was always so quick to yell at him for saying things like that or play fighting.
Forcing a grin yet again Naruto bounced up. “I just remembered I have to copy Kiba's homework!” He said before dashing off to the door Sasuke had disappeared into moments before, leaving a slightly bewildered Sakura behind.

Once he'd reached the safety of a hallway which seemed devoid of life Naruto let his expression drop again as he shoved his hands in his pockets. The day wasn't exactly getting off to a good start, in-fact it was starting off damn well awful! It seemed Sasuke was the new thorn in his side and he wanted nothing more than to punch the smug look off the bastards face, and yet when Sasuke had been sitting there staring at him with that far off look in his eyes, like he was looking into Naruto's soul, it had made the blonds stomach twist in an oddly pleasant way.

For a boy, Sasuke was striking in the looks department, even Naruto had to begrudgingly admit that. The blonde couldn't think of one thing that was less than perfect when it concerned the Uchiha's looks – His attitude, however, could certainly do with a few tweaks if not a complete overhaul. Even if Naruto didn't even know the guy yet.

He jumped violently when the bell rang and the hall started to fill with students, scratching the back of his head and squinting his eyes in thought he shrugged and made his way back to the classroom.

Later that day, once school had finished and Naruto sneakily ducked out of cleaning duty like a ninja on a secret mission, the blonde was sitting on a bus to the small cafe he worked in which was located in a better off area of Kwun Tong.

He still felt a bit miserable, but he was sure it was more to do with the lack of food as opposed to his social life. As if to punctuate this fact his stomach growled loudly and he felt his cheeks redden as a buisiness man across from him lifted a brow. Naruto ducked his head and stared at his lap for the rest of the journey.

He'd changed into a black short sleeved shirt and a dark green apron when arriving at work. Shoving his bag in a small locker out the back before getting to work.

It wasn't exactly a thrilling or challenging job, but it paid the bills – mostly. He was half way through his shift when he noticed the identity of a new customer sitting alone at a table by the window, watching the rain that was starting to fall harshly against the glass. Sasuke. He could feel a growl trying to work it's way up his throat and quickly suppressed it as he was told to stop slacking and see to the customers already.

Grumbling something about bastards as he approached the table the blonde put on the most obviously fake smile that he could and stood with pad and pen in hand. “Are you ready to order, sir?” He said a little sarcastically.
Sasuke glanced up and didn't seem at all surprised to have Naruto serving him. “Black coffee, no sugar.” He said flatly, but his eyes held amusement.
“Anything else?” Naruto ground out between gritted teeth, his grin so forced it looked painful.
“Actually, there is.” Sasuke started, before lifting his hand and pulling Naruto closer by the collar of his shirt, much to the blondes shock. “How about I give you a better job?”
Now, Naruto wasn't exactly known for his tact, so after the raven haired youth had finished speaking he pulled out of the grasp and shouted a startled “What the hell!?” Earning him glances from everyone in the cafe, and a glare from his manager. “No way! Why would I wanna work for a bastard like you?!” He sounded indignant.

“Naruto!” He heard the firm voice behind him and felt his stomach sink. 'Uh-oh....'
The blonde turned and gave a sheepish grin before being yanked out back by his manager, after the man had spoken a sincere apology to Sasuke of course.

An hour later Naruto found himself once again jobless, but thankfully he'd recieved his pay check. He had a knack for getting fired because of his loud mouth or temper... often both. But this time was was completely and utterly not his fault! And as if summoned by the blondes thoughts of loathing, Sasuke appeared in-front of him under a black umbrella, sporting a stoic look.
“What the hell do you want?” Naruto mumbled before shoving past Sasuke and continuing on his journey home, ignoring the fact he was soaked from the rain.
“I hear you're looking for a job.” Sasuke stated. “My offers still open, so how about I buy you?” It was said so seriously Naruto almost thought he'd heard the other youth wrong.
“Hah... I could have sworn you just said you wanted to buy me.” He said, slowing his step to glance over his shoulder dubiously.
“I did.” Was the short reply.
