Doubts

Hope you guy's like this chapter!! There will be some OOCness for Sasuke. No I didn't make him weak, he's just a bit broken down.

Sasuke found himself sulking for the rest of the month, doing all sorts of things to get his mind off of the husband and the time that he was away. No calls, no text messages, no emails, it was as if Naruto had completely fallen off the grid. He kept telling, nudging his emotions away, and convincing his mind that he was perfectly ok, that he wasn’t affected like this, but no matter what way he looked at it, he realized that he was the bastard all along.

He was the one that was reluctant for them to get together in the first place.

He was the one that always initiated a fight.

He was the one that was always shielding his heart for reasons he couldn’t understand from the one person, he was sure he didn’t need to anymore. I love him so much, but why do I keep pushing him away?

Naruto had resurrected him from that dreary life and the abusive boyfriends and though they’d been together for five years, he still held that dark secret that he couldn’t let go, that singular thorn that was embedded into his shady past, and reared it’s head ever so often. How was he supposed to forget, when the one he held back from, the honest to earth crystal blue eyes that smiled right and lit up his sour moods held his rapt attention everyday?

He loved that he could make out that blond hair in a crowd, he loved that the dobe belonged to him. Now though, he could slowly feel that connections they had fraying at the edges like a paper dimly burning to a crisp while the ashes blew into the wind and disintegrated.

Naruto made him feel like..like when you stood on a cold evening and the silver dots twinkling in the sky reminded you that you’re not alone. The bitter wind reassured you that you were hollowed out and probably no one would be able to love , that you were not worthy of having that someone at all. Then a blanket would cover him and he would feel this heat that consumed him, and there his lover would be standing. It was those little things as a part of his life that said he really was the sad sorry soul without his best friend in the world. It would be what he would become if Naruto ever was to leave.

Thus this was why he was currently in their living room, slouched on the couch hugging the bottle of alcohol like a child, waiting for him to come home. Now don’t get him wrong, he had his pride as all Uchiha did and he wasn’t always one to admit defeat, but when push came to shove the time came to pull back and notice his own mistakes. He knew that when Naruto had calmed down that he would be back eventually.

The room now had just swirled into colors of black and grey, unimportant. The blinds were drawn to prohibit any sunlight from entering, because god damn his head pounded like a mother fucker. Tick-tick-tick. Those were the only sounds he heard, pounding is his ears, the clock seeming to go on infinitely.

He hadn’t even bothering going to work because he knew that he wouldn’t have the motivation to do anything without Naruto to come home to. Their fridge was becoming a bit depleted of supplies and his worry creased lines in his forehead pondering where the blond had been staying, most likely at Sakura’s.

The pair had been best buddies in high school and college, before Naruto had met Sasuke. After Sakura had gotten over her life changing infatuation to him, things went a bit smoothly from then on. Still didn’t mean he was entirely comfortable being around her. Rather, he tried to avoid it at all costs.

A slow, deliberate knock sounding on the teak wood of their front door, and he slinked further into the couch, taking another swig of the Jack Daniels. He stayed silent, hoping that the visitor would go away but they just kept knocking on his fucking door! Crap! He hated things like that!

He bolted from his seat and swung the door open harshly ready to tell his visitor off when silvery hair caught his line of sight. Fucking great…his boss Kakashi was here.

“Ah, Sasuke-kun. I see that you’ve finally decided to acknowledge my presence at your home. I thought I would have to try ingraining a print of my knuckles into your door before I got an answer.” Kakashi’s eyes had smiles in them as he continued, “So, are you going to invite me in?”

Sasuke grumbled a response before he walked back to recline lengthways on the couch, ignoring his boss’s dry humor and resumed taking his wallow-in-self pity medicine, alcohol.

Kakashi fixed his trousers as he took a seat, before clasping his hands together in front of him and taking in his employee’s appearance.
Sasuke had never been much of a drinker. Kakashi knew that much. Hell, he couldn’t hold his liquor at all by the evidence of an outing to a bar the workplace had one Christmas. Looking around the living room, which was in a dire state and reeked of something foul, he could clearly see what was wrong. Naruto had left. By the looks of it, Sasuke was hoping the ground would swallow him. He thought he’d cut right to the chase.

“Why haven’t you been to work?” Sasuke stomach grumbled.

“Do I look to be in the mood to write reports?” Icy emotions of his eyes hit Kakashi and the silver haired man dusted his shoulder, to shake the uneasy feeling off.

“What has happened to you is-”

“None of your fucking business, so why are you here?” Sasuke was suddenly very angry to be pulled out of his comfort zone. The two glared at each other for a minute before Kakashi was satisfied that the raven deserved a response.

“Are you ready to listen to me?” Sasuke continued to glare at him “Ok. Look, I don’t know what the hell has transpired between you and Naruto, but I know from thick and thin you two have always worked out all your problems. What puzzles me though is what has led you to become like this Sasuke? Did you think that the alcohol would wash away your problems?”

“I was hoping it would, yes.” Sasuke gave him a weak sneer.

“Bullshit. I know you’ve got more backbone that that. So why don’t you get off the ass that you don’t have and bring back your happiness.”

“Probably, because Naruto won’t talk to me.” Sasuke shrugged.

“Well, just call him and force him to talk to you.” Kakashi looked at him evenly.

“Do you really think that Naruto is going to give in that easily? I just have to wait because everything is that simple.”

“Do you want me to call him for you? I have his number right here..somewhere.” He held up his cellphone and thumbed through to find the blond name.

“No! I’m not a child Kakashi, I can do it myself.” Sasuke stood to grab the device and felt the ground sway. His boss looked at him warily for a moment. “Are you ok?”

“Shit! I think I’m gonna be sick.” He doubled over, grabbing his stomach and moved to go to the bathroom but didn’t make it. He felt his stomach compress as he emptied its contents or whatever was there unto the floor, the sting of the acidic odors burning the hairs in his nostrils.

His knees felt weak and he collapsed, barely steering clear of the vomit within an inch of his face. Kakashi dove and crouched to his side with the raven curled into a ball shivering, sharp prods of pains searing repeatedly in his groin area. Something wet was leaking from between his legs.

“Oh God.. I think I’m having a miscarriage.”

“A what? Sasuke!?” Kakashi shook his shoulders, “What do you mean a miscarriage?” he frowned before he stood up and dialed the emergency number on his phone.

“I didn’t even know I was pregnant,” Sasuke croaked quietly to himself, his face contorted in a mixture of shock, pain and sadness as silent tears careened slowly down his face.

“Hello? I’m going to need an ambulance right away at…” The raven didn’t hear the rest as everything faded to black, one name on his lips.

“Naruto…”

While Naruto attended to one of his eldest patients at Konoha general, he felt a cold feeling wash over him, as if someone was calling to him before one of the interns came to deliver a message. The feeling was all but forgotten as he gave her his divided attention, finishing up with Arthur, who was starting to feel the affects of his medicine finally working. Poor guy had been in so much pain lately.

“Dr. Uzumaki, they’re requesting your presence down in the ER. There are a flood of casualties coming in from hostages being released and also an incident with a burning building,” she paused to look at her chart, “There are also some GSW’s that need attending to.”

“Aren’t there any resident’s available?” Naruto checked his pager, which had started to beep hysterically.

“No sir, some are busy in surgery with Dr. Kiba and Dr. Hyuuga, and there are few personnel to help.”

“Give me five minutes, I’ll be right down.”

“Yes sir.” She left quickly, her coat swirling behind her.

Naruto made sure everything was in working order before he left, and went to the nurses station downstairs, picking up the charts for some of the people that had just come in. Things looked bad; there were a lot of them on beds that were already waning in numbers, some were leaning on walls and a lot of noise was present that hardly anyone could hear themselves speak. He could hear sirens somewhere in the distance, but blocked them out to focus on who to work on.

“Dr. Uzumaki?” On of the nurses was calling to him now, the phone pressed between her shoulder and her ear as she listened and delivered the call at the same time.

“There’s a Kakashi on the phone to you, he won’t give his last name, but he says it’s important?” She waited impatiently for an answer as Naruto only half heard her.

“Tell him I’ll call him back later.” Naruto scribbled something on the chart before he moved to attend to another patient.

“But sir, he says that it’s really important.” Naruto sighed.

“Would you please tell him that I’m very tied up at the moment and whatever it is can wait? I will call him back later.” She spoke something into the phone before returning to her station, Kakashi’s call all but forgotten.

Sasuke’s eyes fluttered open, feeling his body moving, so many sounds and voices around him. He could see lights, white, bright ones flashing by directly in his vision. They passed fast, and somewhere out of the corner of his eyes he saw Kakashi’s face above him.

“Hang in there Sasuke, we’re at the hospital.”

But Sasuke didn’t hear him. He was wondering to himself why he couldn’t see a blue eyed blond in the crowd of people around him, when he’d always been there. How come he wasn’t here now? To hold my hand and tell me everything would be ok? Naruto was his life support, the other side of his heart. Tears leaked from the ducts in his eyes and he felt his throat close, he tried to clasp at it to get air, but he couldn't. When had things turned out like this?

Has Naruto really abandoned me when I needed him most? Was it because I killed our first child and now he hates me? The raven haired male felt something inside him break at the thought, his brain pounding repeatedly against his skull. His body was racked with pain, but they held him down, as they wheeled him to God knows where.

I didn’t know! God, how could I have? Since he’d been born with female reproductive organs, the doctors had said that they were dormant and it would be near impossible for him to have children. So he’d made happy with the male ones that he had and he and Naruto had been satisfied. Naruto had insisted that it didn’t make him love him any less because of it.

Yet now, to think that he’d actually gotten the chance, that golden opportunity to have the one thing that they for years had been trying to achieve, through tests and clinic visits, it made him angry. Naruto didn’t care about the sacrifice and he always kept faith. He’d thrown it all away because of his stupidity and had catapulted their marriage to doom.

When he closed his eyes, he was glad when it all stopped, feeling just the numbness, hoping that Naruto could find the means somewhere to forgive him.

“Kakashi-san, please wait outside, you can’t come in here.” Kakashi stood clutching his phone, and tried to dial Naruto’s number again.

“Is he going to be ok?”

“We are trying our best.” Then chaos exploded around them.

“Ino, he’s going into shock!” Kakashi could only watch as he saw Sasuke’s body convulse through the glass doors.

“Someone get a crash cart here immediately! Push two cc’s of----” Just then everything stopped as they heard the machine flat line.

Beeeeeeeeep………
