Chapter 2

2.

As Naruto's new roommate stood there at the doorway, his eyes looked him up and down. Idly he wondered if this new roommate of him, if Sasuke, was as religious as most of the people here. There were honestly kids here who truly believed they could be turned straight. Naruto thought they were just setting themselves up for disappointment and heartbreak. It was sad really. He himself wasn't all that religious. He blamed it on how he was raised.

And it was because of that that he had absolutely no problem shamelessly checking his new roommate out, not caring if the old fart next to him saw.

His new roommate was delicious, he concluded.

Rooming with his was going to be a bitch. He had gotten good practice at hiding his feelings, but when he liked someone it was hard. He was the type of person who liked to be affectionate and spoil people he liked. If his dick wasn't put on lockdown in this place he'd have called it before anyone else had the chance to try and make a move on him – such was how Naruto's old group of friends worked in high school. Whenever they liked the same boy the first one to call it won the right to pursue. Good times.

But this one was something else. He'd never seen a boy with such a beautiful face before, he wondered if he took after his mother. His face was sharp with high cheek bones, a pointed chin, a straight nose, and beautiful almond shaped eyes that were so dark they looked black, dark locks of his hair framing his face to perfect the look. Looking at the rest of his body, his eyes took in the creamy pale skin. He wasn't bulky but he wasn't skinny either. His skin looked soft, but also hard with male muscle, making him think of steel wrapped up in the velvet silk.

This was going to be a very sexually frustrating rooming situation.

~*~

Sasuke really wished that the blond would stop staring at him yet at the same time never stop. He was used to being desired by people. Girls at his school left love letters in his locker all the time. Then it was easy enough to get that boy to make out with him after school – he faintly realized that he had never bothered to learn the boys name, but that didn't matter, he wasn't important. What was important was that he was rooming with Mr. Sex-On-Legs and had to keep his hands to himself. He wondered if they were even allowed to masturbate there. Sasuke wasn't really a fan of doing it, but he had needs.

"Remember to behave yourself boys," the old man said, though his eyes narrowed in Naruto's direction, who merely shrugged innocently in response. Sasuke wondered if Naruto had been caught in compromising positions before and got in trouble. He didn't have much time to ponder on that though, the old man turned back to him. "We check on you and walk through the halls to keep an eye out for anyone misbehaving. So don't think that you'll get away uncaught. And remember, the lord is always watching you."

He heard Naruto snort in the background, but it went ignored by the old priest.

Shaking his head and sighing, the priest muttered, "May God be with you," and left the room.

"He forgot to say the the walls are very thin so if you moan too loud he'll hear," Naruto chuckled. "Oh right, and make sure to prayer before bed. No seriously, they walk around at nine to make sure you're doing that."

"Nine?" That early?

"Well, it's summer now so more like ten." Seeing Sasuke's look he added, "Oh and it gets worse, we get up at six on 'school days' but on the weekends and summer we get one more hour and get up and seven. Oh, and don't' even think about trying to take any naps during the day unpermitted or when you're not sick. That's sloth right there, you being lazy and blah, blah, blah."

Sasuke shook his head as he walked to his bed, glad to be talking because it gave him other things to occupy his mind with.

"What the hell is this place?"

"It's a place for sinners who take pleasures in the bodies of those of the same sex, or um, a place for abominations. I think that's what the bible tells us anyway."

Sasuke raised an eyebrow. "You don't know?"

"Honestly? I've never read the bible. I get in trouble for it all the time. They're probably going to have me stuck in a room this summer and make me read it. I tried man, I really did, but I keep falling asleep . . ." He shuddered. "I hate reading. Books are so boring."

"Hn. So . . . you're not religious?" That would certainly make being around him a lot easier. He wasn't sure if he could contain himself if the boy was religious like his parents. He didn't want to be told or assured every day that he was being saved or cured.

"Pfft, hell no. I wasn't raised to be."

Sasuke was about to ask about that when he heard footsteps coming down the hall.

"How often do they do that?"

"Often enough," Naruto groaned, flopping back on his bed.

"Lower your voices," a man said as he passed by them, his eyes peering in as he passed.

"He's right. We really shouldn't talk too loudly. It really becomes a pain when you spout words of sacrilege. They especially aren't very fond of me, you know, due to me being a heathen." Naruto rolled his eyes. "I don't know why they even keep me here. Oh wait, I do, but that's beside the point."

"Do we have no privacy?" Sasuke asked in a lower voice.

"What we do when we go to the bathroom is between us and God, but that's it."

"What about when we shower?"

"We shower together with those of our gender . . . while being watched."

"That's—"

"Sick? Humiliating? Yeah, I know. You can get in trouble for dropping the soap too. They say it attracts unwanted attention and is suspicious. Because we don't bend our legs to pick up anything, oh no, we just reach down with our legs locked straight showing off our ass as if putting it up for auction," Naruto said, sarcasm coating every word that came from his mouth.

Sitting on the bed, Sasuke opened his bag and finally took notice to the room as he absorbed what Naruto said. There was no privacy there and he was too embarrassed to ask if anyone was even allowed to masturbate. He could hardly believe that his parents had actually left him in such a place. He would be there for just a little over a year though and that was it. He was turning seventeen in a week and just one more year after that. He could survive a year. He wasn't sure he even wanted to try to be straight anymore. Being gay may not be worth it, but he definitely didn't want to turn into someone like these people.

There weren't many things in this box of a room. The floor was made of wood and the walls were white and bare. There was a bedside table for both of them with a lamp on it and a bible next to it but that was it. He also saw two dressers but no closets. There was nothing on top of the dressers and he wondered if they were even allowed to keep cologne or at the very least deodorant. Surely they would let them keep at least that?

"Don't try to hide anything in your dressers, they check those. Not that you'd be able to sneak anything in here anyway," Naruto mumbled from the bed. "Dinner starts soon too, by the way, and we're expected to be down there mingling until they say we can go to our room."

Sasuke looked back at him. "Then what are you doing up here?"

He grinned. "Told them I had a headache."

Rolling his eyes, Sasuke went about to putting his clothes away, wondering how much of it would be missing after they looked through it.

~*~

Naruto and Sasuke were escorted down the stairs. He wondered if Naruto would make up another excuse but as it turned out, the boy was too hungry to skip out on a meal. To say he was surprised by how Naruto turned out was a bit of an understatement. He wondered if the others would be as open minded as him, though there was doubt in his mind. Naruto had a unique aura about him and he could tell by the way he talked back there that he didn't have many people thinking the way he did there.

"Wait in this room until you're called in to eat," the priest said as he left them in a room that was spacey with a couch, chairs, a loveseat – only two members of the opposite sex allowed to sit there together – a table with a vase of flowers on it and a few small bibles, and a large window with the curtains drawn back, showing the beautiful setting sun in the distance.

It would have been a lovely sight, if not for the feeling of being caged.

"I think someone wants you to sit with her," Naruto snickered as he went over to the couch and sat down on it, closing his eyes as he leaned against the armrest.

"No sleeping on the couch," a priest left there said.

"I still have a headache," Naruto whined.

Sasuke drew his eyes away from the scene and looked at the loveseat. There was a girl with pink hair sitting on it and waving him over with a sweet smile. Shrugging, he walked over and sat next to her.

"Hello, you're the new boy right?" the girl asked, latching herself onto his arm.

Was this really a lesbian?

"Hn."

"My name's Haruno Sakura. This is really embarrassing, but it's my second time being here," she giggled, though it lacked any humor. "I was cured first, but then I left and, well, things happened, I got infected and now I'm back!"

Sasuke stared at her with hidden horror. She sounded brainwashed.

Would he become like that?

He hoped not.

Looking at Naruto, he hoped he managed to keep his sanity and individuality like he did. He smirked when he saw Naruto complaining and arguing with the priest, the priest's frustration with the blond showing on his face.

His attention was brought back to the girl when she cupped his face in her hands and gazed deeply into his eyes.

"Will you kiss me?" she whispered so the priest wouldn't hear. "It's okay though, you're a boy and I'm a girl, so they won't mind so long as we don't go too far."

Sasuke sat there, speechless, his eyes darting around the room just to see that no one was paying attention.

Sakura looked at him, from head to toe, her eyes calculating.

"You're pretty, prettier than the rest, so it might work with you." Her eyes locked with his and silently pleaded.

Well, what was the harm in trying? He was there to try and be straight after all. And this girl, Sakura, she was cute. She wasn't an eyesore anyway.

With that in mind, he leaned forward and their lips pressed together softly.

The kiss wasn't the same as kissing that boy. There was no lust, no real enjoyment in it. Her lips were too soft, she tasted too sweet, she smelled too much like flowers, and was much, much to passive. She was letting him dominate the kiss and he didn't like it. He liked someone else taking control, or even fighting for control, but this submissiveness wasn't something he enjoyed.

Why, if heterosexuality was right, did this feel so wrong?

When they parted Sakura whispered softly, "Why doesn't it ever work? What's wrong with me?"

The words tugged at his heart. How many times had he asked himself that when he had tried to be straight? How many times had he looked at himself in the mirror and asked himself what was wrong with him?

She sounded like she was on the verge of tears as she said it, close to sobbing, and he figured he should at least say something. Maybe he should at least tell her she wasn't a bad kisser, because she wasn't. She wasn't the type of kisser he enjoyed but she wasn't sloppy or bad either.

But as soon as he opened his mouth to comment on it, she turned away from him and started out of the window at the setting sun, her face being wiped clean of all emotion, the cheerful girl he had met just minutes ago already gone.

Exhaling softly, he looked back over at Naruto, who was now looking at him, his eyes seeming to assess him. It made him uncomfortable but it was over quickly. Blinking, Naruto looked back to the priest and gave him a cheery grin and sat up straight. Sasuke wondered if he purposely distracted the priest just so he and Sakura could kiss.

Looking at the blond's lips, which weren't thin or too full, but just right, he wondered what it would be like to kiss them. He realized that he wanted to kiss him, to taste him and take in his scent. He wanted to feel those hard muscles, under his hands, against his own body . . . He foresaw a very sexually frustrating time there.

"Are we allowed to talk to each other, to people of our own gender anyway?"

Sakura looked at him dully, but with a spark of sad understanding.

"Yeah, so long as someone's in the room to observe you, to make sure you don't touch – not even a simple hand on the shoulder is allowed. Also, there has to be space between you, you can't sit too close."

Nodding, he got up and walked over to the couch Naruto was on. The priest was walking around the other side of the room at the moment so they'd have a few seconds to themselves to talk.

"So, how was the kiss?" Naruto asked with a tilt of his head, curiosity evident in his eyes.

"You saw?"

"No, but it's Sakura. She asks every boy who comes to kiss her." Naruto shook his head. "I think she believes that one day a prince in shining armor will come, kiss her and light a match of passion inside of her and whisk her away to heterosexuality."

"That's . . ."

"Sad, right? I know. I feel sorry for her; she sets herself up for heartbreak every time. She's snared herself in a vicious cycle and I don't think even she knows how to get herself out of it."

But that's when he stops, before Sasuke could ask him anything more. The priest caught them sitting together and had his eyes on them like a hawk and was no doubt listening in on what they were now saying. Naruto changed the subject by asking him to tell him the story about the archangel Michael and how he sealed Lucifer, a topic that the priest seemed to approve.

After all, what story could be better for them other than a story about an angel burning in hell forever for rebelling against the lord?

As Sasuke told the story of the beautiful archangel casting down the beautiful fallen angel he looked around the room every now and then and saw the expressions on the other's faces.

What the hell kind of place was this?

Everyone was miserable.

I'm not sure how to reply to reviews so...down here will do yeah?

SamuraiSaaya: Overly religious people are scare me. There is nothing more dangerous than a person who believes they're on a religious cause.

Insanity's Angel: Wow you read it. XD Actually I think actual anti-gay camps are worse than how I have this place. ^^;

Rahvin68: Nightwish is my favorite band. 8D Though I prefer them when Tarja was singing for them, the new singer Anette is good too. XD
