"No! I won't let you!”
Dark greasy hair hangs loose down to hide a pain ridden face, streaks of tears running down soft cheeks. The fluid making the black strands cling to a clenching jaw line. He lifts up his glass and throws it into the wall - it shatters with unsatisfying silence, falling to the floor in glittering shards. Another pained yowl is let loose, the boy sink to fall on his ass, dragging his feet up close to his chest so that he can hide his face in his knees, press down till it almost hurts his skull. Clenching his eyes shut. Heart wrenching sobs tearing through the quiet room.
How do they expect him to keep on living without his one true friend? Hisonly friend? The only one who can understand?
It feels like he is standing on an edge. Ready to fall.. Only this time there won't be anyone to catch him. Because Yahiko is going away. And he'll forget. Forget his promise. His many promises.
Has already forgotten..
Whispers that went through dimensions and worlds unseen to the rest of the world to help guide a lost boy back into his own reality.Forgotten. Promises that he'll never leave, never let him get lost in the maze within his own head, never be alone. But he will.. he will leave.
In a couple of hours;- he'll leave.
Nagato wasn't even supposed to know, not yet. They weren't even going to tell him before the other was gone. Because they knew how he'd react. Knew he'd freak out. And not because he meant to.. but because it scares him shitless when he thinks about how life without his pillar will be.
Lonely and dark.
But Yahiko has just snuck into his room to tell him, bubbling over with joy and almost dying to tell his best friend the good news. .
He has been adopted.
A nice couple that have been to the orphanage several times to see him -wants him. Charmed by his easy smile and strong will; Brown eyes and red hair standing out in all directions- and his freckled nose.
Yahiko tries to tell Nagato he'll make them take him with them too.. that he won't leave unless he comes too. But Nagato knows that that's not up to him to decide. And he knows that they won't want him.. No one wants him.
No one wants the damaged boy with a broken mind.
*****’’’’
That was over ten years ago, and Yahiko had been right.
They hadn't wanted him.
Sure, they had been asked if they had wanted to take Nagato too.. it was only natural to ask. The two boys were like brothers.
It had been with pain in her eyes that the woman had gently declined. Explaining the staff that she didn't think they could handle the boy. He was tormented by delusions. Six or seven realms no one could see haunting his mind, his dreams. Some of them in hell, some in heaven.. He could wake up in the middle of the night screaming, clawing himself till he bled. Claiming that he had been covered in bugs or a dark slithering substance.
Or he would fall asleep during the days, eyes wide awake and mind lost to the unseen dimensions created in his mind. A smile creeping over his face while bliss filled his eyes.
Sometimes he would think he had god like powers, which often lead to stupid stunts.. like sticking his hand in boiling water or jumping off the roof.
His mind was playing tricks on him.. And no one had been able to help him deal when his only anchor to the real world had been torn away.
And now, ten years later.. Yahiko peers through the clean windows with a stutter in his heart and sweat in his palms. He knows his friend is in a bad shape, a bad place..and he knows no one has been able to reach out to him since he left..
Knows he has let his friend down in every way possible. And first now, now that he is finally eighteen can he come and see Nagato.
Dark greasy hair hangs like a long veil over a too thin face. And Yahiko can recognize that face anywhere.. it still looks the same. That same haunted look in set in dead eyes.
He has to swallow several times to keep his emotions in check. Lost as he is, Nagato is still highly influenced by his surroundings. Distress, humor, anger quickly picked up and enhanced. Twisted and turned into something new and disturbing.
Even the meds can help him, not really.
The grass feels almost too crunchy under his shoes when he walks over the wet lawn, soft sounds of rustling the only sound in the otherwise empty yard. Well.. almost empty anyways. His eyes fill with pain when he sees the only other person in the huge yard outside the asylum. His old friend sitting silent and unanimated in a wheelchair.. A blanket wrapped around his legs, his hands cuffed and restrained.
“Hey..” He whispers when he is close enough, sitting down on his haunches to see the others face. His heart skipping when there is a flash of recognition in those lost eyes..
