Soulmating

A/N: Well, this was a fast one. I suddenly had enough inspiration to write an entire chapter, and I'm even pretty satisfied about it :o As I've said, I haven't got a beta, so if you review, which I'd be thrilled about, you're welcome to point out any error in my English. And I've got 55 hits already, and two positive votes :D

Naruto heard a beep. And then another one. And another one. He opened his eyes, and saw a hospital room. He was lying in a bed, hooked up to a heart monitor.

"How did I get here?" he thought. "And why do I have this terrible headache?"

He tried to remember last night. Slowly it came back to him. They had gone to a party in celebration of their success. They had drank a lot. Really, a lot. That explained the headache. Now to fill in the blanks. They played spin the bottle. Ino had started, and kissed...

"Who did Ino kiss? Ah well, it doesn't really matter. After that, it was Chouji's turn, I think, but then? Was it... was it me? Yeah it was. I kissed Sasuke."

Wait...

"I KISSED SASUKE?!" Naruto almost yelled out loud. "But... I can't remember anything after that. We didn't... Did we? No we didn't... I think." Lost in thought, he failed to notice someone enter his room.

"Good morning, Naruto." the Third Hokage said. "How are you doing?"

"I have a terrible ha... ehm headache." replied the blonde, remembering that he was still a minor. "But other than that I feel fine. Why am I in here?"

"You can say hangover, I was there with the medic squad that picked you and Sasuke up. I saw all the empty beer bottles. But that is not important right now. You and Sasuke had your chakra spiraling out of control, every ninja with a bit of chakra sensing ability in this village noticed that. It was one of the highest chakra levels I have ever seen. My question is: what did you do to cause this?" the Third asked.

"I don't know, it's all kind of fuzzy. We were playing spin the bottle and then..." Naruto's voice turned into a mumble.

"Then what?"

"Promise not to tell anyone."

"I beg your pardon?"

"Promise not to tell anyone."

"Are you, just a genin, telling me, the Hokage, what to do?"

"No, but I... Please, don't tell anyone. It's kind of embarrassing."

"I can't promise that, we need to do a lot of research as to what exactly happened. I can promise that the research team will keep it a secret though. They're mostly ANBU, they know how to kee a secret."

"Me and Sasuke, we kind of, you know, kissed."

"You kissed?" the look on the Hokage's face would have been priceless, if Naruto wasn't so embarrassed. "And then?"

"Nothing, that's all I can remember"

"Well, then that must be it. Somehow, you two kissing activated your chakra. According to your friends, it started swirling around the two of you, mixed and then receded into you and Sasuke. I will tell you now Naruto, that I have never heard of anything like this happening ever before. It is possible that this was a side-effect of the Kyuubi being sealed inside you."

"Damn that fox, why does he always find a way to completely ruin everything in my life!" Naruto said angrily.

"Naruto, I said it might have to do with the fox. As of now, we still know nothing. As soon as I have spoken to Sasuke, I want to do some tests on you both, to see if it had any lasting effects. I'll go see him now, in the meantime Kakashi and Sakura would like to visit you, if that's all right."

"Sure, send them in." Naruto said, suddenly happy as always.

"Yo" greeted Kakashi, as they entered the room.

"Are you all right, Naruto? You and Sasuke really scared us last night." Sakura asked.

"Yes, I'm fine Sakura, only a bit hung-over."

"Good" she said, as she pulled back her first to punch him.

"Sakura, we talked about this." Kakashi said as he grabbed her arm. "No punching Naruto when he's in the hospital."

"What the hell, Sakura! Why would you do that?"

"You stole Sasuke’s first kiss from me, damn it!"

"Seriously? Sasuke and I are in the hospital because of some freakish chakra incident, and you're mad at me for kissing him?"

Kakashi smiled. This was better than his books. He needed to put a stop to it though, or the Hokage would be pissed.

"Knock it off. It doesn't matter who kissed who, what matters is: was the kiss any good Naruto?"

Then again.

"Naruto," the Hokage said, entering the room before Naruto could shout a stream of insults at Kakashi. "Come with me. It's time for you and Sasuke to undergo some tests."

"Are you all right, Sasuke?" Naruto asked, when they entered the test chamber.

"Hn." was of course the response.

"Boys, could you stand across each other?" the Hokage instructed. "How are the readings?" he asked one of his researchers.

"Their chakra levels have risen even higher then when they were in their rooms. It seems as though the closer they are to each other, the more powerful they get."

"Ok. Please both stick out a finger and touch each other’s fingertip."

As Naruto and Sasuke did this, they couldn't look each other in the eye. Both horribly embarrassed by the night before, they stuck out a finger and touched.

A purple glow emanated from the place where their fingers touched, radiating a power way above both their normal power levels.

"The readings are insane. Right now, they have a chakra level that rivals that of an average jonin."

"Hmm..." the Hokage mumbled. "Boys, what I will ask you to do now may possibly be a bit dangerous. I need you both to mold some chakra."

"What can be dangerous about that?" laughed Naruto.

"Just be careful and if it spirals out control, stop it."

Both boys molded a bit of chakra, their fingers still touching. Immediately, the purple glow turned into a bright light, spreading out over their bodies. They felt a strange sensation, like their chakra pools were slowly both becoming one. Like they were becoming one.

"Stop it!" yelled the Hokage. When they had stopped, he said:"Well, you destroyed our equipment, your chakra levels were higher than this machine can handle. If you could use it like that, you guys could probably even give me a hard time. You can go home now, but come to the training field tomorrow. We will start exploring your abilities and train you in using them."

"Yes, sir!" Naruto said, happily. He liked having a special power besides the Kyuubi.

"Hn." was Sasuke only response.

As they were walking out of the building, Naruto had to ask: "Sasuke, what do you think of all this?"

"Hn"

"I'm being serious here. Did you feel that connection when we were molding chakra? It felt like your chakra was mine, and mine belonged to you."

"Yes" Sasuke replied

"And? What do you think?"

"I think nothing of it yet. I need to know if it's a power I can use, or something that'll just bother me."

"But I meant it more on a spiritual level. Did you feel like you could see bits of my soul as well?"

"Yes. And before you ask: I saw the Kyuubi as well. It doesn't bother me."

They were silent for a while.

"Sasuke?" Naruto carefully asked.

"Hn?"

"Thanks"

Sasuke and Naruto were walking home, when they passed Ichiraku's. Naruto's belly grumbled.

"Sasuke?"

"What?"

"I haven't got any money on me. Would you mind buying my dinner?"

"You want to eat this crap?"

"Hey! No hating on Ichiraku's. It's the best there is. You should try it too."

"No thanks Here's some money."

"Fine. Suit yourself. Old man, give me one of your best ramen to go."

"Coming up Naruto." said the old man, smiling as always. "There you go. See you tomorrow."

"Thanks." Naruto said, as they left Ichiraku's.

After walking silently for a while - Naruto's because he was eating, Sasuke because he was, well, Sasuke - Sasuke asked: "Naruto?"

"Yes?"

"Do you think this all has anything to do with the fact that we kissed?"

Blushing, Naruto responded: "Yes, I think it does."

"Because, if it does, it means our souls are connected because we kissed."

"I know. I thought of that as well. But we're not in love. You're looking for somebody with whom you can make Uchiha-babies, and I'm straight, so it can't be." Naruto said assuring, both to Sasuke and himself.

"Hn."

"I've got to go the other way now, goodnight Sasuke."

"Goodnight."
