Chapter Twenty-One
Warning boy x boy, don’t read if you don’t like.
AN: I am so sorry for the long wait. I took a 10day vacation and then got side tracked by one of my stories that I’m still working on. I know you guys will forgive me. Sorry if some of you think this chapter is too fluffy but Sasuke isn’t in any physical shape to be doing any wet and wild sexual escapades. This is merely comfort and love, pure and simple. This actually turned out to be the final chapter. I hadn’t intended it but it seemed to fit well. I really hope you guys enjoyed the story as much as I enjoyed writing it. I hope you keep reading my other stories and supporting me as I develop as an author. I am going back and editing all the early chapters so if you really liked this you should go back and reread in a few weeks. Thank you for all the supportive reviews. I love you guys. Anyway, on with the show.
What Dreams May Come
Chapter Twenty-one
Sasuke groaned as Naruto lifted him like a baby into the temporary wheel chair outside his large house. It was embarrassing to have to be waited on hand and foot but Naruto didn’t seem to mind, in fact, if Sasuke had to hazard a guess, he would think that the blonde was enjoying catering to Sasuke’s needs.
Once settled in the chair, Sasuke allowed Naruto to push him towards the small wheelchair ramp that had been installed while he was still in the hospital. He was too tired to argue. After his grueling session with the demoness that called herself a therapist, Sasuke was sore, tired and just wanted to lay down. His body had been bedridden and malnourished for so long that the hour long therapy sessions completely exhausted him.
“We’re home, Sasuke.”
“I can see that, idiot. Are you going to show me inside or do I have to sit out here in the cold while you gaze at the house like it’s your long lost child?”
Naruto grinned sheepishly and pushed Sasuke up the ramp and into the house. The addition of the ramp hadn’t been the only adjustment to the house. The doorways had been widened to allow for wheelchair access and the carpeting had been replaced by hard wood so that Sasuke would not have to struggle to push the wheels through the thick material.
Itachi had grudgingly agreed to allow Sasuke to stay with Naruto and had helped him move all of Sasuke’s possessions to the spare room of the apartment. Now Naruto had no intention of letting Sasuke sleep away from him but he knew that until Sasuke was feeling up to going through his things and organizing where to put them, they would sit in the spare room.
“Are you hungry?” asked Naruto.
“No, just tired. I’ll eat later.”
“Your physical therapist said…”
“I’m just tired, Naruto. Let me take a nap for a while and then I promise I’ll eat.” Sasuke wearily pushed the wheels of the chair towards the large couch. Struggling to pull his body from the chair onto the plush couch, Sasuke grabbed at the soft cushions in an effort to steady himself. He groaned as pain shot up his legs as the sore muscles protested the movement. Naruto jumped to help but the look Sasuke shot him stilled his movement.
“I can do it.” ground out Sasuke in a tone that garnered no rebuttal.
His arms quivered as he pulled his uncooperative legs towards the couch. Months of immobility and malnutrition had weakened his legs to the point that he could barely move them. Struggling, Sasuke finally freed the limbs from the chair and collapsed halfway on the couch. Breath panted from his lips as he struggled to pull oxygen into his lungs, his mind swimming with anger and frustration at how exhausted he was just moving from the wheelchair to the couch. He couldn’t believe how easy people took for granted the simple act of moving until they couldn’t anymore.
He wanted to punch someone or scream at the top of his lungs at the frustration that was coursing through him at his weakness. Would this be how the rest of his life went? Would his life be spent panting in frustration while trying to complete the simplest of tasks? Tears filled his eyes but he refused to allow them to spill over. He wouldn’t show the anguish that still pulsed through him. He was an Uchiha and an Uchiha was stronger than this.
“Sasuke…”
“Don’t say anything. Just give me a minute.” The words tasted bitter on his tongue as he pulled his weakened legs on the couch and lay panting while staring at the ceiling.
Naruto walked slowly from where he stood in the entryway. His feet made soft padding sounds as they slapped against the hard wood floor. Sasuke turned his eyes to the blonde when he came to stand beside the couch.
“Naruto just leave me alone for a bit. I’m tired.”
“You aren’t tired. You are moping and I’m tired of it. We clear one hurdle and you put up another. Did you think everything would be easy?” Not waiting for an answer, Naruto climbed behind Sasuke and strong arms pulled him against a warm chest.
“You are so stubborn. You make me want to scream at you and kiss you at the same time. I told you, we are in this together. I’m not letting you go.” Naruto buried his nose in the smooth, pale skin of Sasuke’s neck. Breathing in the clean smell, Naruto locked his arms around Sasuke and listened to the sound of their breathing. Sasuke’s tension bled away.
“You’re an idiot.”
“Only when it comes to you.”
Sasuke’s body went stiff as a muscle spasm rocked his body. Biting his lip to prevent a whimper of pain from escaping, Sasuke shut his eyes and prayed for the clenched muscle to loosen.
“Shh. Just relax. You are so uptight.”
Strong, tan fingers pressed into the tight muscle of his thigh and pressed deep into the abused flesh. His body shuddered as Naruto worked the muscle with practiced ease. Several minutes passed and Sasuke’s body went limp.
“Thanks.” Sasuke muttered the word grudgingly and Naruto smiled into the tender flesh of his neck.
Cuddling his young lover close, Naruto felt his breath match the rise and fall of Sasuke’s. All of the fight left Sasuke and soon he was relaxing into Naruto’s arms, his eyelids fluttering closed as he gave up his body to sleep.
Naruto curled his body protectively around Sasuke and soon he too was drifting quietly into sleep. The shared warmth brought comfort to both men as they lay quietly dreaming dreams.
Sasuke shivered and opened his eyes to find himself alone on the couch. Unable to prevent the tremor of disappointment from curling through him, Sasuke pulled himself into a sitting position and stretched his sleep heavy muscles.
He’d dreamed as he lay sleeping on the couch. The dreams of his past life and of the events of the last few months came easily. He’d dreamed of his past self and of the conversation he’d had with him while with Naruto in the ruins of Konoha. He’d noticed Naruto’s guilt and at the same time, his happiness. Thumping his head against the back of the couch, Sasuke wondered if things would ever be normal with them. Would the past stop haunting them both?
Eyeing the wheelchair that was within reach, Sasuke debated whether or not to battle the infernal contraption again. He wasn’t sure if his mental state could take it if he fell flat on his face and required Naruto’s help to right himself. Luckily he didn’t have to debate long as Naruto entered the room, grinning.
“Good you’re awake. I was about to come wake you up. Dinner’s ready. You slept all afternoon and I didn’t have the heart to wake you. You seemed so tired.”
“What time is it?”
“Just after six.” Naruto didn’t waste any time and scooped Sasuke into his arms. He frowned at how light his lover was. That wasn’t healthy. The bones of his spine and ribs had become prominent as well as those in his hips. Naruto was determined to change that. Sasuke would eat even if he had to force feed him.
Naruto carried Sasuke and sat him gently in a cushioned chair at the table in the kitchen. His dining room table was low and would be uncomfortable for Sasuke until his muscles and bones fully healed. Until then, Naruto decided they would eat at the western table he had in the kitchen.
Sasuke looked at the table incredulously. It was packed with so much food that there was almost not room to actually eat. “Are you hungry?” he asked, his eyes wide as he looked on the massive amounts of food.
“You were asleep and I didn’t want to wake you to see what you wanted so I cooked a little of everything.”
“Hn.” Sasuke snorted but blushed as his stomach rumbled loudly.
Naruto grinned and started filling his own plate, Sasuke following in suit. The food tasted better than the hospital food he’d lived off of for the last few months. Though he only finished half his plate, Sasuke’s stomach was full to bursting. He saw the way Naruto eyed his plate as if gauging how much he’d eaten but he knew that even if the blonde complained there was no more room for any more food. He would get sick if he ate another bite.
“It was good, Naruto.”
“Glad you liked it. Are you finished?”
Sasuke nodded and before he knew it, he was in Naruto’s arms again. It was a comforting place to be. Whenever the nurse’s aides had lifted him, he always felt afraid he would be dropped. That was not the case with Naruto. In Naruto’s arms he felt safe and secure.
Sasuke found them both on the couch once more, this time with him sitting comfortably beside Naruto, the blonde’s fingers linked with his own. Swallowing the lump in his throat, Sasuke turned dark eyes towards blue.
“Naruto, can I ask you something?”
“Sure.”
“Do you regret us? I don’t mean the accident. Just…if back then…do you regret that you loved me so much that you were made to suffer for so long?”
Naruto turned determined eyes on Sasuke. The words were so similar to the ones he’d spoken to Sasuke many years ago. What brought this line of questioning about?
“Why do you ask?”
“It’s just you and I never seem to have an easy relationship. I died and then you had to live alone and now I’m like this and you have to take care of me. It just seems like your life is only about suffering. I don’t like the look in your eyes. It’s always there. It’s like you are holding something back, waiting for the next ball to drop.”
Naruto sat with his eyes wide. It was true that his life had not been easy by any standards. His childhood was spent alone in a run down apartment that the village had ‘graciously’ paid for until he graduated. He’d nearly died more times than he cared to think about and then to top it off, his best friend had nearly killed him. Throughout all the suffering, there was joy too. The joy of being with Sasuke, even if only for such a short time, was precious. The joy of having precious friends to care for him and about him eased the pain. All these things had made the suffering just a little more bearable. It made everything he went though worth it.
“To not have you at all would be far more horrible than what I suffered at losing you. You changed me. You saw the real me and forced the world to acknowledge me for who I was. You made me realize I didn’t have to shout to be heard. You always took care of me and now it’s my turn to take care of you. You may not remember everything that we went through together but I do. I loved you then and I love you now. Nothing has changed other than the fact that I get to be older this time.”
Sasuke snorted a laugh at the last comment before turning serious eyes to Naruto. Looking up into eyes that held such love he almost felt burned by the intensity. Naruto emphasized his point by cupping Sasuke’s cheeks and drawing his lips to his. This kiss wasn’t meant to be passion or desire, it was meant to relay love and trust. Passion could come later, for now, Naruto wanted Sasuke to know that he wouldn’t have changed anything in his past at the cost of this moment.
This moment was all that mattered. The past, while wonderful and painful, meant nothing if he couldn’t have this moment with the person he cherished above all others. Sasuke moaned and leaned deeper into the embrace, his thin arms wrapped around Naruto tightly as if fearing that he would disappear.
Naruto lifted his lips and nuzzled his cheek against Sasuke. “Leave the past to rest for me, Sasuke. The past shaped us both so that we could have this chance again.”
“For you.”
“I don’t think you and I can exist without the other. I don’t want to even think of existing without you.” Naruto nipped at Sasuke’s lip before soothing the sting with his tongue.
“At this moment, can you see your life without me?” Naruto nipped at Sasuke’s chin before nibbling a trail down his throat until he reached the steadily pounding pulse that thrummed just beneath the skin. Sucking gently on the spot, tasting the salt of Sasuke’s skin was such a heady experience that Naruto nearly rolled his eyes in pleasure. It wasn’t about sex but instead about immersing himself in his broken lover. It was about letting him know how much he desperately needed him.
“Sasuke?” Naruto stopped his tasting of Sasuke to gaze up into glazed over eyes.
“No.” The word was barely audible but Naruto heard the throaty whisper and grinned with happiness.
Naruto kissed Sasuke’s eyelids and then his nose, ending at his lips. Sasuke’s lips opened readily to welcome the warm tongue that plunged inside, tasting every inch of his mouth. Sasuke’s tongue joined in the dual and soon both were panting heavily into each other’s mouth.
“Naruto…we can’t…I can‘t.” whimpered Sasuke as he felt the gentle touch of Naruto’s fingers on the waistband of his sweatpants.
“Shh…just feel.” Naruto scooped Sasuke in his arms and carried him into the bedroom. Laying him gently on the soft down comforter, Naruto stripped the brunette of his shirt and sweatpants, leaving him naked.
Kissing and touching, Naruto teased the little pink nipples with his tongue and teeth. They budded and reached towards his touch as if missing the feel of his lips on them. The touch drew small whimpers from Sasuke as his back arched slightly in pleasure.
“Do you like this? Did you miss us?” Sasuke swallowed at the question and nodded his head as Naruto nipped down his ribs, giving each prominent bone a small teasing bite as he worked his way down.
Nibbling his way down the concave abdomen, Naruto dipped his tongue into Sasuke’s navel earning a low whine. “I didn’t hear an answer.” murmured Naruto, sucking on the edge of the indention.
“Oh, god…Yes I miss feeling like this.” panted Sasuke, his fingers buried in the golden locks of his lover.
Naruto’s tan fingers drifted across pale, scar ridden hips. Sasuke moaned as Naruto’s tongue followed the path of his fingers, tracing each scar but leaving where he ached the most untouched.
“God, Naruto.” Sasuke continued to gasp as scorching heat poured though his veins. Naruto was the only person that ever made him feel this degree of lust. Naruto gave a particularly sharp nip to Sasuke’s hip, forcing a near scream from Sasuke’s lips. The blonde grinned at finding that particularly sensitive spot.
“Please…” whimpered Sasuke, his neck arched back attractively on the pillow. Naruto’s eyes darkened at the sight of his beloved Sasuke, trembling with desire.
“Please what?”
Sasuke whimpered again and pushed at Naruto’s head with his hands in an attempt to bring the blonde’s lips towards his throbbing cock. Naruto chuckled and grabbed the hands, kissing each palm before forcing them down on the bed, to grip at the comforter.
“Say it, Sasuke.” Naruto grinned at the whimpering moan that Sasuke released.
“I want you to suck me, damn it!” Sasuke practically yelled the answer, his hands gripping the comforter so viciously that his knuckles turned white under the strain.
“See that wasn’t so hard, was it?” purred Naruto before engulfing the tip of Sasuke’s erection in his lips. Sasuke’s eyes rolled back in his head and his lips opened in a silent scream of pleasure.
Naruto smirked around the tip. His tongue jabbed into the slit, tasting the slightly bitter flavor of Sasuke’s pre-cum as it dribbled from the tip. He felt the shaft swell even more under his ministrations and was surprised at how close Sasuke was. He’d barely started and Sasuke was already approaching orgasm.
Clasping one hand gently on Sasuke’s hips to keep him from straining himself, Naruto lowered the other hand to cup and squeeze the swollen sac beneath Sasuke’s erection. Sasuke was panting at this point, his mind reeling with the pleasure that the stimulations brought.
Naruto was providing nearly constant pressure to the crown of Sasuke’s cock. The sensation of pressure, coupled with the gentle squeezing of his balls was more than Sasuke could bear. He felt his muscles begin to tense up in preparation to expel his seed.
“Naruto…I’m…” This was all the warning he could give before his body seized up and his balls released their load deep within Naruto’s mouth. He thought his orgasm would never stop as pleasure coursed through every fiber of his being. He rode the orgasm until his body collapsed against the soft bed, completely drained of energy.
Naruto licked his lips as he released the softening cock with a slight pop. He didn’t think he would ever get tired of Sasuke’s flavor. It was uniquely his, salty and bitter. Though his own cock ached for attention, Naruto ignored its pleading. This was about Sasuke, not him. It wouldn’t be the first time he’d been left aching and at this moment he really didn’t care. The hooded black eyes and panting breath of his lover was pleasure enough.
“Are you ok, Sasuke? You aren’t hurting anywhere are you?” Naruto’s eyes scanned Sasuke’s face for signs of pain but saw only hooded eyes and slack lips.
“Mmm.” mumbled Sasuke as the last tremor of pleasure faded from his body.
“You taste good, Sasuke.” murmured Naruto, kissing his lover to give him a faint taste of himself. Naruto pulled back, with a final lick to the glistening lips. Sasuke swallowed at the look of deep lust that shined in Naruto’s face.
“What about you?”
“I’m fine. Tonight was about you.”
Sasuke purred as Naruto curled his body into him, the endorphins from his release, caused his body to relax even more in the aftermath of his orgasm. The feel of Naruto’s body heat warmed him deep in his soul. Things would be ok with them. It might not always be easy but this was what was meant to be. Feeling sleep overcome him, Sasuke felt himself drift into darkness for a blessedly dreamless sleep.
Naruto opened his eyes and found himself standing in the training grounds of his youth. The wind was whistling through the thick trees that lined the area. Birds cooed to each other softly. It was peaceful.
“So, are you happy, Naruto?”
Naruto turned to see a stunning man with red hair step from the shadows. His hair was divided into nine links and fell down his back nearly to his feet. Red eyes gazed deeply into blue and Naruto felt his eyes widen. Kyuubi!
“Kyuubi?” Naruto whispered. The man smiled and inclined his head in acknowledgement.
“Glad to see your perception is as good as ever. You always were bright though you hid it well beneath loud laughter and cheeky grins.”
“Where are we?”
“Your dreams. My body is still weak and I don’t have the strength to manifest myself in the physical world yet. One would think that after all the years I spent in your head that you would be easier to talk to. You’re not. You rejected all of my attempts until I finally had to use Sasuke as the medium. You always were stubborn”
Naruto flung himself into the arms of the creature that had been his companion for so many years. Tears gathered in his eyes and spilled over to drip to the dirt.
“Why are you crying, Naruto?”
“I miss you. I feel empty without you to talk to.”
“You have Sasuke now. I’ve made sure that two of you will have a long and happy life. I have connections you know. Let Sasuke fill the void I left. I think that’s what was supposed to happen before but I mess up and changed things. But it‘s all repaired now. Everything is as it should be.”
“It’s not the same.”
“He makes you happy, doesn’t he Naruto?”
“More than anything.”
“Then I have a favor to ask. Be happy. Take care of each other. Learn from each other.”
“Will I see you again?”
“Who knows? Fate is a funny thing.”
Naruto tilted his head at the words. They sent a chill running through him, almost as if a shock of electricity was shot through his core. The air fizzled with energy and tinkling laugher was heard on the wind.
“Time for me to go, Naruto. Don’t worry, I’ll be watching over you.”
Naruto’s eyes popped open and blinked as the rays of morning light filtered in the bedroom, spreading gently over the comforter. Sasuke grunted in his sleep and snuggled deeper into Naruto’s arm. Had what he dreamed been real or just a figment of longing. Looking down at the sleeping face of his lover, Naruto decided that it was real. Kyuubi was always the smart one.
Brushing fingers over the pale cheeks, Naruto smiled as his soul warmed just from Sasuke’s presence. This was how it should be. The journey wasn’t meant to be taken alone and now he had the only person he wanted to make that journey with.
“It’s early, stop moving around so much.” mumbled Sasuke.
“I love you.” Naruto whispered gently in Sasuke’s ear, his breath teasing the hair that fell across a pale cheek.
“Me too, now go back to sleep.” Naruto laughed at Sasuke muttered comment and curled against the younger man, his eyes drifting shut from a feeling of pure contentment.

Five years later
“Hey dobe, where are those steaks?”
“Coming, coming, teme.”
Naruto stepped from the kitchen, carrying a very large plate, piled high with steaks to be placed on the grill. Sasuke leaned on his cherry wood cane as he made his way across the patio to take a seat beside a very pregnant Sakura.
After a year of recovery, Sasuke returned to school. He wasn’t sure how but he and Naruto began to reform bonds with people. Surprisingly enough, Sakura was one of those people. She and her friend Ino had been the first to welcome Sasuke back to the university. Things only seemed to grow from there. As the years passed, Sakura started dating the very odd, Rock Lee, much to the disdain of most of her snotty friends and before long they were married.
“I hope he doesn’t have those eyebrows.” was the first thing out of Naruto’s mouth when Sakura told them she was pregnant, earning him a very large knot on his head and a scowl from Sasuke.
“Shikamaru, wake up, you lazy bum and go help Naruto cook.” yelled Ino from the kitchen where she was preparing the side dishes.
Shikamaru trudged from the house muttering about women and how troublesome they were. Hinata giggled from where she sat next to her fiancé Gaara. Even Naruto wasn’t sure how that came about. The large backyard was filled with people that had become dear to both of them over the last few years. Some were old and some were new, but all were very precious and they were gathered there to celebrate the birthday of one of their own.
Sasuke stood, grabbed his cane and limped towards his blonde lover. Though he would always need the cane for walking, Sasuke counted his blessings that Naruto had been in his life after that accident. He knew that he would have never survived the depression if it wasn’t for the blonde man.
“Hey, sexy.” grinned Naruto as Sasuke stopped beside him.
“Idiot.” muttered Sasuke but leaned in for a kiss.
“Naruto! You idiot, watch the food and kiss Sasuke-kun later.” yelled Sakura from her seat.
“I’d do as she says, dobe. She’s a bit scary when she’s pregnant.” smirked Sasuke as he pulled back from Naruto‘s lips.
Naruto laughed and gave Sasuke one last kiss before turning back to the steaks. Once done, everyone gathered around the several picnic tables to eat. Conversation was rampant and laughter was often. This was a gathering of friendship and love.
It wasn’t until Ino set the very large, very orange birthday cake before Naruto, did tears of happiness stream down his face. His tears of pain and loneliness had long since been replaced by tears of happiness and joy.
“Happy Birthday, dobe.” smiled Sasuke as he leaned in to kiss the tear dampened lips, tasting the salt. Naruto smiled and kissed him back, before leaning down and blowing out the candles. Jiraiya coughed faintly as he counted the candles on the cake. Tsunade elbowed him, earning a withered look from her husband.
Naruto laughed and pulled Sasuke tight against him. To think that he could have this much happiness and joy. Life and fate had certainly thrown a lot of surprises his way but he wouldn’t sacrifice this happiness for all the tea in China. Life was too precious to waste on sadness and despair. He had never dreamed he would have a second chance but his dreams had become reality and that was all that mattered to him.
