Hunter and hunted

Moving through the streets of Konoha Gai used all his shinobi cunning to track down his prey. Having finished his morning exercises (and his quick visit to the Hokage, for his little 'problem') in record time he was now hunting for one man.

So far his opponent had managed to evade him but Gai wasn't sure whether that was due to him being aware of his pursuit or simply because he had once again slept in. But, that the 'azure beast' promised himself, he would not let Kakashi escape him.

Kakashi did not sleep in, but visited the memorial as usual in what many considered an 'ungodly hour of the morning', as a few witnesses to his trek there and back would lead Gai to believe. Afterwards, he headed back home for at least another five hours, not emerging until at least noon. After that things got spotty as it seemed Gai was always one step behind the copy ninja. Finally, Kakashi was seen by Gai himself as he left a stand where he just had a snack of dango, orange book in hand to read while he walked to his next location.

Grinning widely Gai waited for a good moment to make a 'dynamic entry' and poofed next to Kakashi just as the other man was rounding a corner. "Good Morning Kakashi~!" He almost sang out, a wide smile sparkling in the midday sun.

Kakashi... sidestepped Gai and continued walking. In fact, he got about five steps away before he paused, looked up from his book, and glanced back at Gai. "...Ah. Gai. I didn't see you there." he said, voice emotionless.

Not being deterred by his rival's hip attitude Gai continued to smile brightly. "How are you this fine day my rival?" he asked, one hand resting on his hip the other spread of to the side. This incidentally allowed his Jounin vest to fall open and exposed the skin tight green shirt over the slightly darker green low slung but well fitting trousers he wore. Of course the legwarmers and the weights were as always in place, as was the hitae-ate around his waist.

Kakashi raised a noticeable eyebrow at Gai's appearance. He was out of that green thing he always wore.

Something had to be horribly wrong. Gai never ran out of those. Not even on laundry day. Kakashi suspected he had at least ten of them just to be sure of that.

"...Alive." Kakashi responded, simply. "You?"

"I'm very well, thank you. My youthful vigour can't be defeated by a minor infliction, such as that!" Making a hand motion to indicate just how neglectable he thought the whole thing was Gai easily shifted his weight, his hips pushing to one side. "I wanted to invite you to dinner tonight!" He continued, uncaring of the people passing them by and throwing him bemused looks.

"Dinner." Kakashi said, flatly. He was disappointed to find he had no other excuses and Gai would know if he was lying and only make things worse. He was also ... looking forward to it, a little. "...Okay, where at?"

Smile growing even brighter Gai gave him the thumbs up. " The 5 Countries, I have heard it's supposed to be very good." He declared with a pleased air to him. "It's near your flat." he explained further, just in case Kakashi didn't know the little restaurant that had quickly grown popular through it's variety of foods from all the Hidden Villages.

"Mm, I don't think I've gone there before." Kakashi thought aloud. "What time?"

"The table reservation is for 7:30." Gai was almost bouncing in place with positive energy. "We can meet at your place at around 7:00."

Kakashi could not deny himself amusement in his tone or gaze. "...And what if I had other plans?"

Blinking at that Gai had to think about it for a moment. "Then I would have cancelled it?"

"Ah." Kakashi shrugged. "Well, I can't guarantee I'll be up at seven, I was just heading home to take another nap." he said, marking his place in his book. "I'll do my best, though."

Gai's smile changed subtly. "I can get you up, after all, I know where the key is." For a moment Gai's eyes seemed to smoulder, but with a sweep of his lids he looked like the usual straight-laced Gai again, a challenging grin twisting his lips upwards.

Kakashi continued to stare at Gai for a moment, curious at the hint of a promise he had seen there. "...Well, if it's in the same place. I forget if it is." he shrugged then turned, starting to make his way back to his apartment and taking out the book once more to read. "I'll see you at 7:30 at the latest, then."

Grinning to himself Gai nodded. " I'll see you tonight then," he shouted before jogging of in the direction he had come from, so far his plan had been a complete success.
