Little things for a bigger picture
Much to his disappointment, Kakashi in fact did wake up in time to meet Gai at seven. However, he was still messy from earlier that day, and for once he had gotten some training in as well. Although he normally did not care about his appearance, his sense of smell was more acute than even some of the Inuzuka clan, and a shower was required.
Point seven Gai knocked at Kakashi's door, fidgeting slightly with the sleeves of the tunic he was wearing. Again it was green, simply due to the fact that he owned little else but his suits and he liked the colour green, but this time an even darker shade of green that almost appeared black in low light. His trousers were a warm beige colour, one of the only Non-green items in his closet. The ever-present legwarmers were consciously absent as were any obvious weights, only the forehead protector remained of Gai's usual outfit.
Kakashi's shower wasn't loud enough that he didn't hear the knocking at his door. But there he was, naked, in the shower, dripping wet. He couldn't deny that he was tempted.
...Well, if Gai started something first, Kakashi was hardly to blame. He turned the water on harder in his shower and let Gai find the spare key, right where it was last time.
Waiting for a few more minutes without receiving a reply Gai retrieved the spare key and let himself in. Carefully he moved through the flat noting that nothing seemed to have changed since the last time he had been here. Blushing slightly at the memory he moved towards the sound of running water indicating that at least Kakashi was awake.
Pushing the door open Gai quietly stepped into the bathroom, looking around and spotting Kakashi easily in the small room.
Kakashi glanced over to Gai behind the somewhat fogged glass that sectioned off his shower. "...Ah, sorry, didn't hear you come in. I'll be out in a minute." He rinsed the rest of the shampoo out of his hair before turning the shower spray off. Not looking back, he reached a hand up over the top edge of the glass. "Pass me a towel?"
Licking his suddenly dry lips Gai lifted one of the towels off the bar they hung over but hesitated when it came to handing it over. " I could help..." he volunteered suddenly, surprising even himself.
Kakashi glanced back at Gai over his shoulder, eyes half-lidded and heated, before he turned away. "Maa, help with what?" he asked, as though he didn't understand the offer.
Soldiering on Gai stepped up to the shower and pushed the panel to the side. Holding the towel up he let his eyes chase a few of the water rivulets running down Kakashi's skin. "This."
Kakashi closed his eyes, running a hand through his still dripping wet hair. "...I can dry myself, you know." he said, his tone amused. He didn't turn back to face Gai or try to take the towel, however.
A callused hand made contact with Kakashi's elbow and slowly stroked upwards. "So?"
Goosebumps spread from where Gai's hand touched. Something was just so thrilling about Gai taking the initiative for once -- and being sober while he did so. "And if I said no?" Kakashi asked, though he gave no signs that he would answer that way.
Gai trailed his hand up to one wiry shoulder, his thumb sweeping over the shoulder blade. "You get the towel." The hand with said towel brushed against Kakashi's hip in a fleeting moment of contact.
"Mm." Kakashi let out a relaxed sigh. "Good to know." He didn't ask for the towel again or tell Gai to stop.
Growing in confidence Gai began to run the towel slowly down Kakashi's back, the strokes of the fabric doubling as caresses while his free hand moved to the other ANBU's flat stomach and simply rested it there feeling the gentle rise and fall of his breathing. Taking this chance Gai surreptitiously made sure that the injuries really were only a product of his restless sub-consciousness.
The only injuries Kakashi had were ones from training or his missions, it seemed. He even had very few of those, having not been on any big missions recently. Kakashi almost purred under Gai's caresses, unable to stop himself from arching back against Gai's touch. He knew he meant to keep away from Gai, but kept telling himself that he couldn't be blamed, Gai started it, so it was hardly his fault... as he began to overheat, these things made more and more sense.
Having finished with the expanse of Kakashi's back Gai pressed a quick kiss to the back of his neck, the towel changing hands so that it now made circular motions over the still wet skin of Kakashi's chest. Gai's free hand coming to rest in the dip of the other man's waist.
Kakashi let out another sigh, tilting his head back to rest against Gai's shoulder. "...You're good at this." he said.
Gai smiled, his lips curving up against Kakashi's skin. " I'm a quick study." To emphasize his words his tongue flicked out to lap at the water droplets still clinging to the soft skin of his partner's throat.
Kakashi couldn't stop himself. He let out a long, quiet moan. He couldn't deny his interest, and at the moment he didn't particularly want to. All he wanted was to feel Gai's hands on him for just a little longer... "I'm going to need another shower." Kakashi commented, moving his hands to gently cover Gai's own.
"Oh?" Nuzzling against the moist stretch of skin Gai inhaled deeply, his hands moving so that he was loosely hugging Kakashi from behind. "I could help with that too." he murmured huskily taking the lobe of Kakashi's ear between his teeth and tugging gently.
"You're- mmmm- a little overdressed for that..." Kakashi moaned again. He pressed back against Gai, hips moving on their own.
"That's easily rectified." Unwinding his arms from around Kakashi's waist Gai set to stripping himself, the process made a lot easier due to the absence of his jumpsuit. Only when it came to his pants he had to back away from the silver-haired man, immediately missing their contact.
"You aren't wearing that green thing you always insist on wearing." Kakashi commented, finally, wringing out a part of his hair in an effort to calm down.
Gai slipped out of his trousers and put them to the side. "They hardly would let me in dressed like that." Plus since he was aware of Kakashi's dislike of his jumpsuit he had hoped to please the other man. His socks and underwear went the way of his trousers and he once again stepped up to Kakashi, this time joining him in the cubicle, the space barely large enough to fit the two of them.
Kakashi pressed against Gai, not that the small space allowed for much else. He moved like a man possessed, turning to face Gai and seal the other ANBU's lips against his own.
Meeting Kakashi's lips Gai crowded the slighter man against the wall of the shower, his hands travelling over the slick skin, following first the path the towel had taken before branching of and touching fleetingly on the sensitive spots scattered across the other's chest. One of his legs inching between Kakashi's and nudging them apart.
Gai's take of initiative was both confusing and extremely arousing. Kakashi's legs opened for Gai without hesitation, happy at the prospect of getting some friction against his growing erection. He urged Gai on with moans and gasps, hands eagerly trailing over as much of Gai's skin as he could reach.
Inserting his legs further between Kakashi's Gai pressed his thigh against him, rubbing against Kakashi's firming shaft as well as pressing his own erection against the other man. Pressed chest to chest his hands satisfied his craving for the touch of Kakashi's skin by stroking up and down his sides, his mouth barely parting from Kakashi's lips for much needed air before returning to them and once more entangling their tongues, feasting on the other ANBU's lips.
Kakashi was drowning in Gai and loving every minute of it, every sensation that overwhelmed him. He was still damp from the shower, but it just wasn't slick enough yet. With a shaking hand he reached over to the shower knobs and turned the warm water back on, delighting in how he was able to glide his skin against Gai's with the help of the water.
Rubbing against his eternal rival Gai's hands securely grasped Kakashi's hips and pinned him against the wall, his body sliding easily between the other's thighs their bodies meeting from groins up to their lips where Gai was still busy devouring the copy-nin's mouth. The warm water falling down on them shrouding them in clouds of steam so that it was hard to tell where one began and the other ended.
Kakashi was only instinct at that point, gasping and groaning when the kiss had to end for them to come up for air, and moaning into it when their lips joined again. With the hard tile against his back and Gai's hard body at his front, Kakashi didn't last very long at all. Kakashi came with a muffled cry of pleasure, lips still sealed against Gai's as his hands gripped at the strong shoulders of the other man.
A few moments Gai followed Kakashi, his hips thrusting against the others as he shuddered and his seed mixing with that of Kakashi as it spilled out into the small space between their bodies and dripping to the floor of the shower, where the water washed it quickly down the drain. Pressing a last kiss to the other ANBU's lax lips Gai finally pulled away resting his head in the crook of Kakashi's neck for a moment to enjoy the last spasms of his climax to run through him.
Kakashi's body was lax as he stood only because of the weight of Gai pressing him to the wall and holding him there. Well… He'd done it again. After he told himself he wouldn't. Kakashi found that no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't be that upset at himself as he remained in the bliss of his climax.
Allowing himself a few more moments of content motionlessness Gai finally pulled away from Kakashi, the water running over his shoulders and down his muscular chest to wash away the traces of their passion. " I think we can still make the reservation." He offered with a small but satisfied smile, pushing his wet hair out of his face.
"My hair takes forever to dry if I don't use a blow-dryer. You'll have to grab my clothes for me." Kakashi smiled lazily. He was interested in finding out what Gai would want him to wear, after all.
Nodding Gai reached over the panel and grabbed the towel he had used earlier. Wrapping it loosely around his waist to keep from dripping to badly he stepped out of the shower.
Then his forehead creased in thought for a moment before he leaned back in and captured Kakashi's lips with his own in a kiss that still held the same passion his earlier kisses had, before zipping out in a flash, hopefully headed for Kakashi's wardrobe.
Kakashi was stunned at the sudden kiss, at a loss of how to act. Time was quickly passing, though, and he had not lied about his hair taking forever to dry.
In Kakashi's room there was very little. He had no closet but instead just a dresser. His wardrobe was... quite limited, actually. Mostly there was only two outfits used for 'clubbing', training and work gear -his ANBU uniform was nowhere to be found, presumably kept elsewhere, and clothing used for sleeping when it was cold enough that clothing was required. Just as it was beginning to look like Kakashi HAD no clothing suitable for going out, there was tucked away a simple shirt and pair of pants, looking like they might have never even been worn before.
Drying himself of Gai quickly slipped into his own clothes that he had grabbed during his mad dash to the bedroom before taking a closer look at the shirt and pants. Finding nothing obviously wrong with them he tucked both under his arm and casually strolled back to the bathroom, poking his head in to see how far Kakashi was with his hair.
Well, it wasn't dry, but at least it wasn't soaking wet, either. Passable, in any case. He already had his mask and forehead protector on by the time Gai walked back in. "Ah, find anything?" he asked, fairly certain that Gai wouldn't have, having forgotten about the shirt and pants.
"Indeed I did." Gai held the clothes out to Kakashi, so that the other man could deliver a verdict.
Kakashi's brow creased with confusion for a moment as he looked critically at the clothes. After full examination of them Kakashi determined that they were in fact his clothes, and took them from Gai.
"...Huh. I forgot I had these." he said aloud, though mostly to himself. "Yeah, these are fine."
Beaming Gai almost bounced in place. "If we leave now, we can be there in a couple of minutes." Quickly he ran his fingers through his towel dried hair, restoring it to the usual smooth bowl-cut he was known for.
Kakashi dressed quickly, his clothing dark and managing to make his mask seem normal, still. Finishing quickly, he looked back to Gai. "Well, I'm ready."
Brimming with energy Gai pulled the door open, waiting for Kakashi to proceed him. Their little interlude in the shower had certainly made him hungry and he couldn't wait to try some of the delicacies he had heard about.
Kakashi was also made rather hungry by the romp in the shower, which worked to the advantage of dinner. He headed out of his apartment, locking the door behind himself and Gai. Once out, he turned to Gai, smiling placidly behind his mask. "You lead the way."
And lead the way Gai did. The restaurant was easy to find with the instructions Tsunade had given him and they did indeed reach it just in time for their reservation.
After they left the restaurant, Kakashi was quite determined to go home and get in some reading, and then a good night's rest. "...Well, goodnight, then." he said, unceremoniously, starting to head back to his apartment.
Falling into step behind him Gai followed silently.
...Kakashi was quite sure Gai's house was in the other direction.
"...Is there something wrong, Gai?" Kakashi asked.
"Not really." Gai answered not moving from his position a few steps behind and to the side of Kakashi.
Giving Gai an amused glance, Kakashi returned his gaze to the road ahead. "I can make it to my own apartment quite safely."
Gai nodded his agreement "I'm sure you can." And he did, but for some reason he didn't want to leave Kakashi's side just yet.
Well, at least Gai would probably leave him at his door, Kakashi thought. He walked the rest of the way in silence before making it up to his apartment door. "Well, goodnight, then." he repeated as he took his keys out.
Shielded by the shadows of the dimly illuminated hallway Gai watched Kakashi unlock his door, his hands twitching where they hung at his sides. But he felt that he had pushed his luck with his partner far enough for one day and so he just continued to observe quietly.
Kakashi assumed that was a 'goodnight' from Gai as well. Once he got his door unlocked, he slipped the keys back into his pocked and stepped inside, letting the door start to swing closed behind him.
Moving suddenly Gai caught the door, a look of surprise at his own actions visible on his face before he met Kakashi's eye again:"...could I stay?" It sounded plaintive to his ears but Gai could do little about it, it almost seemed as if his body was acting of it's own will.
Kakashi glanced back to Gai, expression actually surprised. "...Sure." he said, not sure how else to answer.
Gai nodded his thanks, avoiding Kakashi's gaze as he followed the other man into his flat, unsure how to explain his sudden request even to himself not to mention his rival.
Kakashi went about his nightly routine as best he could, not sure how to react with Gai's presence there. After changing into his sleeping clothes, he looked around with a sigh. "...I might have an extra futon, somewhere, if you want to stay the night?"
"No, it's alright..." Gai smiled apologetically. "I shouldn't have asked." Opening the door he was almost swallowed by the looming darkness of the corridor, only the few patches of his skin and the pale trousers outlining him, keeping him visible. "Good night." Everything gave the usually solid man an unearthly aura, as if, like a spectre, he would vanish in an instant.
"Really, you can stay if you want." Kakashi found himself saying without realizing he had spoken.
Gai tilted his head to the side, considering the offer for a moment.
"Well, if it's alright with you..." Shifting slightly Gai smiled gratefully at his rival, the light spilling from the living room forcing the shadows away from him, making him seem completely ordinary again.
"Yeah." Kakashi took Gai's hand and pulled him back into the living room, pushing the door closed behind him. "It's fine. Is something wrong?"
Blinking Gai regarded Kakashi with a slightly confused expression at his sudden change in behaviour. "Not really, I've just had a few...odd dreams the last few days"
“That's all?" Kakashi was... relieved. For a moment, he was absolutely frightened that something was wrong with Gai. "...You can take the bed, I'll sleep on the couch. I'm too tired to look for the extra futon, anyway."
"I can take the couch." Gai offered, unwilling to force Kakashi to give up his bed, especially after the other man had allowed him to stay already.
"...We can both take the bed?" Kakashi replied;
Gai found himself nodding in agreement before he had even completely recognised the words Kakashi had said, but the general idea of not sleeping alone appealed to him on several levels, so he simply followed his instincts and threw all deep philosophical thought to the wind.
Kakashi made his way into his bedroom then, already in his sleeping clothing. Well, no reading tonight for him... He only let go of Gai's hand when they were both inside the bedroom, and Kakashi slipped into his bed and to the side, allowing room for Gai.
Teasing the knot of his hitae-ate open Gai folded the fabric around the metal plate before putting it to the side. Shrugging of his shirt he added it and his trousers to the pile, leaving him in his underwear. Crawling under the sheets next to Kakashi Gai felt all his nervousness and tension drain and he was soon on the way to a deep and hopefully restful sleep.
Point seven Gai knocked at Kakashi's door, fidgeting slightly with the sleeves of the tunic he was wearing. Again it was green, simply due to the fact that he owned little else but his suits and he liked the colour green, but this time an even darker shade of green that almost appeared black in low light. "I can take the couch." Gai offered, unwilling to force Kakashi to give up his bed, especially after the other man had allowed him to stay already.
"...We can both take the bed?" Kakashi replied;
