touch you like lovers do
It was quite some time past sunrise when Gai stirred again, pulling Kakashi closer against his chest in a sleepy motion as he woke slowly. As expected his body still hurt an awful lot but for now he wouldn't complain about a reason to stay in bed…as long as Kakashi stayed there with him, or at least close by.
Kakashi was awoken by Gai's stirring, letting out a mighty yawn. After he had enough time to become coherent, he felt a blush rise on his cheeks. For all the obscene things he had done with Gai, the moment of tenderness and honest caring was what brought out the self consciousness in him. "...We should really take a shower." he said, finally.
Gai grinned and pulled Kakashi even closer, pressing a gentle kiss to his lips. "Good morning!" He declared as he pulled away, sitting up slowly due to the twinges in his back. "A shower sounds like a marvellous idea."
Surprised at the gentle kiss and then the sudden movement away, Kakashi was unsure how to respond to Gai for a moment. He rolled to lay on his back, looking up at Gai almost perplexed. "You can go first. I can make breakfast and fix your bandages when you're done, then take mine while you have breakfast." Kakashi said.
Gai nodded and carefully manoeuvred himself out of bed. It probably would be a good idea not to let Kakashi know just how much he hurt after last night so he simply clenched his teeth and made his way to the bathroom, by now long past being bothered about being naked in front of Kakashi. " I'll be out in a few minutes then."
Kakashi wasted a few more moments, just laying in bed and trying to sort his thoughts before he actually got out of bed. After all, he had told Gai he would make breakfast, and he was determined to keep his promises.
This time Gai actually was out of the shower in a few minutes. By now the bruises had turned to a deep blue, black and violet colour, clashing horribly with the green towel he had wrapped around his waist. On his chest the burn seemed to be healing nicely but there would most certainly remain some scaring. Sniffing the air Gai beamed brightly as he stepped into the kitchen/living room. "Breakfast smells wonderful, my rival!"
Kakashi wasn't even halfway through making breakfast as he looked up at Gai's entrance, still over the stove with a skillet in one hand. Quickly, he turned down the heat so things wouldn't burn and joined Gai's side, taking out the bandages he had stowed in his pocket. "Your bruises look terrible." he commented, starting to wrap them without waiting for Gai to ask.
Shrugging Gai lifted his arms, resting them on Kakashi's shoulders so that the other ninja had easier access to his chest. "Bruises have a tendency to do that, plus those around the broken bones are finally starting to show." He nodded towards his ribcage where on each side was a line of bruises running up his ribs. "But I've always been a fast healer so they should be gone by the end of the week." He grinned, “Shizune said I can go back to teaching by then. I can't wait to see my students again, I just hope they haven't been neglecting their training." Once the bandage was in place he hauled Kakashi closer and whispered a soft , "Thank you." into his ear.
Mind freezing for a moment, Kakashi didn't react to the drawing close at all until it was too late to escape. His face reddened at the 'Thank you.', and Kakashi gently pushed away, giving Gai an awkward smile. "It isn't like you can wrap your bandages by yourself. Sit down at the table, I'll have breakfast ready soon." he took the blessed opportunity to escape back over to the stove and continue cooking before the food burned or cooled down too much.
Still smiling brightly Gai followed Kakashi's orders and climbed onto one of the barstools at the counter. He had rarely appreciated the open plan design of his flat as much he did now, watching Kakashi cook.
Kakashi managed to find solace in the cooking. It was something he had an excuse to devote his full attention on. Not that he was particularly good, but as someone who lived alone, you either had to learn to cook for yourself or have at least three delivery places on speed dial at all times, and Kakashi's pay-check wasn't quite enough to allow for the second option.
It was easy to take the image of Kakashi in the kitchen making breakfast, to impose it on the imagining of future days. But, domestic relaxation was so rarely allowed in the life of a ninja. He put a plate together for Gai and gave it to him with some orange juice he'd found in Gai's refrigerator, leaving his own breakfast on the stove at a low temperature to keep warm.
"I'll go take my shower now, eat up." Kakashi said, heading to the bathroom.
Gai watched Kakashi disappear into the bathroom before starting in on his breakfast. Since he lacked any talent what so ever he usually had a slice of toast and a glass of juice to keep him going until lunch but the change in routine was more than welcome. With his usual speed the plate and the glass were emptied rapidly before Gai rose and dragged himself to the sink to wash up the dishes and pans Kakashi had used that were not at the moment keeping his share of the food warm.
Just as Gai was finishing the last of the cleaning, Kakashi stepped out of the bathroom, fully dressed with mask and forehead protector in place. He raised an eyebrow at Gai washing the dishes. "...I can do mine, when I'm done." he said, politely, dishing up the last of the food for himself.
“Don't worry about it." Gai replied while drying the last plate. "I can't cook, but at least washing dishes is something I can do." A satisfied smile accompanied Gai's words. Putting the dishes away he then returned to his stool and settled next to Kakashi keeping him company while he ate. "Are you ok? You didn't look too well yesterday.." Although it was impolite to talk to people while they were eating Gai's lack of patience got the best of him and he blurted his question out.
Gai wasn't the only one letting out things due to lack of forethought.
"I was just worried." Kakashi said passively, not until he had finished his sip of orange juice did he realize what he said. He kept saying things he could never take back, damn it, what was wrong with him?
For Gai telling somebody that you were worried about them wasn't a particularly surprising or shameful act but he knew that Kakashi rarely admitted to anything concerning his person let alone his feeling so he felt honoured that the copy-nin trusted him that much. Looking at the counter he smile in apology. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you worry." he admitted looking somewhat downcast.
Kakashi shrugged in a non-committal way. "...Well, that's life." was all he said before downing the rest of his food as quickly as possible so he would not have to talk further.
Gai bit back a sigh and leaned on the counter throwing glances at Kakashi out of the corner of his eyes in an attempt not to out right stare at the other man. "I guess you'll have to ask Tsunade-sama to assign you a new ANBU partner.." He muttered finally, obviously unhappy with the thought.
"I'll probably get a temporary reassignment anyway." Kakashi answered once he had finished his food, going to wash his own plate and the last pans despite Gai's offer to do so.
Sliding of the stool Gai tugged at his towel. "Well I best get dressed. I don't think people would appreciate it if I turned up at the tower in only a towel.."
Kakashi bit back a comment of liking the view himself. "Yeah, something tells me Tsunade-sama would order you home to come back dressed in something a little less airy."
“It's not really Tsunade-sensei I'm worried about. She has seen me in a lot less." Grinning Gai marched back into his bedroom and pulled out one of his customary jumpsuits and a fresh pair of underwear from the closet. "It's everybody else that would probably throw stones at me"
Kakashi didn't comment, his fear of straying into overly familiar territory was too great for the moment. He made sure the kitchen was cleaned up while he waited for Gai to return.
It didn't take long before Gai joined Kakashi again in the living room where he sent a longing look at his training weights before putting on his sandals, never mind that it was painful enough to simply walk without any kind of weights. "Well I'm ready!" He announced jovially and grabbed his keys.
Making his way to the door in silence, Kakashi spared Gai a worried glance, hoping he would be able to walk the distance alright. He stuck close to Gai on the journey anyway, careful for any signs he needed assistance.
Gai managed the way there without any obvious signs of discomfort a brief collision with a group of children that managed to jostle some of the still healing injuries aside. Finally they reached the large red tower that housed the Hokage's office.
