with Kyuubi
It had taken them a while down, mostly because Kakashi had had the entire police station swiped for bugs and they had to get in contact with Zetsu again and pay the creepy ex-military man twice as much as before to plant more spy ware at certain points at the police station—this time coating them with a special plastic laminate that made it undetectable by metal detectors, but Kabuto finally found out who Genma was.
Part of the government’s super secret black water ops, Genma Shirunai was one tough man to find, not being listed anywhere. The name Genma was pretty common and there were over a thousand in New York City alone, but cross referencing it with Hatake Kakashi had brought up no results. That searched had been a dead end.
It wasn’t until one of Zetsu’s cameras at the police station had overheard a very important tip.
“Do you guys know when Gen-man and Hayate are getting married?” The conversation had nearly been missed and Kabuto overlooked it until Kyuubi focused in on the rookie talking to Shikaku—Kakashi’s partner. There weren’t many Hayates around and this particular one, when crossed referenced with Hatake Kakashi actually brought up a few results, but they were only interested in one.
Hayate Gekkou, an E.R technician, Genma Shirunai’s lover and Kyuubi’s key to getting Naruto.
For being with the Black Ops Genma didn’t keep his things very well protected. Pein just had to follow Hayate around for a few days to learn his schedule and then subdue him with nitrous oxide as he got off his shift, which was ironic considering he got taken down with his own equipment.
And just so the message was clear, Pein made sure to leave a simple message; nothing too extravagant, taped to his door.
Naruto for Hayate. I’ll contact you.
So now, Hayate was in his own cell, having been separated from Itachi after Kyuubi found the raven feeding the sickly technician false hope of being rescued. Kyuubi didn’t want to bring such hope to the man, knowing it was cruel of Itachi for lying to him like that. And they called him evil. *scoff*
Interrogating Hayate was quite boring. The man was loyal to his lover, but then again, everyone had their limits. When asked why Genma and he weren’t married, Hayate had almost cried, saying that Genma never proposed. Now, Kyuubi didn’t give a rat’s ass about such trivial things, but it did serve to psychologically torture his victim; telling him that Genma never proposed because he didn’t love him. But of course, Itachi had to interfere and reassure Hayate that Genma did love him and would come rescue him. Sasori shut him up quite nicely. Too bad Itachi’s once immaculate face was now tainted purple and his perfect lips were split, blood running down his chin from the thin cut.
Kyuubi didn’t need to physically torture him; Hayate broke on his own once Kyuubi planted the seed of doubt. The two men had only been together 2 years, not nearly enough to get rid of all the insecurities; insecurities increased because Hayate had no idea Genma was part of the Black Ops, only knew that he worked for the government but couldn’t explain the long absences.
“Well this is a big waste of time.” Tobi said, his voice muffled by the ever present mask he wore.
“We haven’t gotten to the good part, un.” Deidara berated the masked man, a half pout half grimace warping his half hidden face.
“What do you mean?” Tobi asked, his head cocked sideways.
“Arg! It’s like babysitting five year olds!” Pein groused, hating how dim witted these two were.
Kyuubi just barely restrained himself from rolling his eyes. This was so unprofessional—arguing in front of their prisoner.
“Shut up.” Sasori growled, meeting Kyuubi’s eyes briefly before the blonde returned his attention to Hayate.
“I apologize for their idiocy.” Kyuubi said, ever the gracious host, “But you see, you may have information that we need.” He walked to where Hayate sat, arms tied behind him—that must be uncomfortable—blindfolded—the lack of sight increased the fear in his prisoner. It was amusing to see how he twitched every time he heard a noise and angle his head as though he could identify what the sound was.
“Where is Naruto?” Kyuubi asked point blank.
Though Hayate had no idea who his captors were—never having met Kyuubi or known of Naruto’s past—the question surprised Hayate so much he was completely speechless. What could these men possibly want with Naruto? And they were dangerous men. They also held Itachi Uchiha captive. And now him. But why him? He’d only met Naruto a few times. Why did these people want Naruto and why ask him of all people of his whereabouts.
“Naruto? How the hell would I know?!” his surprise was evident in his voice and Kyuubi knew the man wasn’t lying.
Nevertheless, Hayate, whether he knew it or not, was Kyuubi’s key to getting to Naruto.
“Really?” Kyuubi asked in mock interest. “Your boyfriend didn’t tell you about Naruto going into hiding?”
“Hiding?” Hayate asked incredulous. “Why would Naruto be hiding? And why are you after him?”
“Ah-ah-ah.” Kyuubi tsked, shaking his finger at the sickly man.
“I ask the questions here.” Kyuubi said, walking around Hayate like a shark circling a helpless baby seal.
“You see…Naruto owes me.” A pause.
“You mean like…the mob?” Hayate asked dubiously when Kyuubi didn’t speak again, unable to picture the hyper blonde taking money from the mob.
His naïveté made Kyuubi laugh out loud.
“Oh god that’s rich!” the blonde actually guffawed making Pein and Sasori exchange worried looks. It was official. Kyuubi had lost all his marbles.
After catching his breath the tall blonde straightened, composing himself though an easy smile still played on his lips.
“I can see why Genma like you. You’re really naïve. How old are you again?”
“29.” Hayate answered with a frown. He’d thought that was a legitimate question yet here this man was laughing at him.
“Oh.” Kyuubi said once more serious. He felt disappointed at that number.
“Naruto owes me much more than money. Then again, can you really put a price on life?” then a thought hit him.
“Hmm…how much would you want in exchange for Naruto’s location?” A lot of people did a lot of things for money.
Hayate was in a state of shock. Aside from having been kidnapped and interrogated, this bastard was trying to buy him off—on information he didn’t even have. Hayate hated his guy.
“I don’t know where Naruto is.”
Kyuubi would’ve let him go—eventually. That is, until Hayate said the words that would seal his fate.
“And even if I did, I wouldn’t tell you bastards anything.”
Kyuubi’s face contorted in a sadistic smirk.
“There are many ways of getting the information I desire. I know others who might. Imagine: how would Genma react to your disappearance? Your death? Do you think he loves you enough to give me the information I need in return for your freedom? Your life?” Hayate’s mouth opened, wanting to tell Kyuubi to fuck off and die, but the blonde didn’t give him the opportunity to speak.
“Or would he let me kill you because his loyalty to Kakashi is deeper than his love for you?”
The sickly man’s mouth closed in utter shock. His doubt and insecurities crawled over him like ants and he wanted to rid himself of the feeling. To trust Genma.
But trust him to do what? To give up an innocent boy for this gangster’s amusement?
But if Genma didn’t give this man what he wanted then Hayate would die. Would his lover be so selfish? Would he? What is the right thing to do when either way someone is going to die?
“I’d rather die than let Genma tell you anything.” Hayate said with false bravado. He knew this man was in charge and could take his life on a whim.
“Hmm…” Kyuubi hummed thoughtfully, pacing, circling once more.
“Why do you protect him? He’s nothing to you.” Kyuubi asked curiously. “Why are you willing to die to save a complete stranger?”
And Hayate didn’t know how to voice his response.
His beliefs told him it was the right thing to do. To protect all life. But these men wouldn’t know compassion if it bit them in the ass.
“Are you a man of religion Mr. Gekko?” The question itself surprised him.
Religious? No. but he did believe in God. But what would these mobsters, monsters, know about god?
He sneered.
“Like you know about religion and god.”
“Oh, on the contrary. I know a lot.” Kyuubi said once more interested in the conversation—and particularly this man. So full of contradictions. Only his poor immune system was a turn off. No one wanted even the sexiest person alive coughing up a lung.
“You see, I myself am a believer. I believe he’s like a child with a magnifying glass that doesn’t give a fuck about whose lives he destroys! And I believe for your sake.”
“What?” Hayate asked more than confused.
“Well if god didn’t exist, then I’d never get the punishment for what I’m doing. There would be no good or evil. Just…human. And you need the security those false beliefs bring in order to stay sane and think that I’ll get my just deserts for what I’m doing. Sadly, that’s not the way things work. If I don’t get Naruto from Genma, I will kill you. And then I’ll kill him. And I will kill Naruto. God has nothing to do with this.”
