That first night was a blur. Sakura hadn’t been prepared for the fast paced club atmosphere but the other girls picked up her slack and they managed to keep things under control. It was hard work and she was dead on her feet by the end of the shift, barely conscious as she made plans to meet up for shopping later in the day.
Jiraiya practically carried her up the stairs to the apartment he had arranged for her. It was a single room and the single most welcome sight she had ever laid eyes on. Or at least she had thought so at the time.
Things were looking very different now that it was morning. Her new place wasn’t in the best shape. There were several large water stains and most of the wallpaper had been striped away. There was a toilet strategically placed in the same corner as the kitchen and a massive porcelain tub taking up nearly the entire room. She recalled Jiraiya’s pride on securing her a room with plumbing. Yippy.
Sakura attempted to situate herself more comfortable on the lumpy mattress. Contorting her body in a strange position she found she was able to avoid most of the broken springs, sinking in she let her mind wonder to memories of the previous evening. The club had been dark, sweaty, and loud. In retrospect the boots had been a major mistake, a few hours in and she had been on the verge of tears. But taking them off would have left her susceptible to the stomping feet and the possibility of broken toes. Blisters were a small price to pay.
Occasionally the hand of an overly inebriated or forward customer would brush against her in an inappropriate manner but such offences were quickly dealt with, often by one of the bouncers roughly escorting the unruly prick outside. She found it odd, but it seemed as though she were the only one of the girls getting harassed.
There had been a surprising number of patrons; the place had been hopping. Come Come Paradise was apparently a hot spot. Who would have guessed?
Her arms and legs were sore from walking back and forth with drinks. Ignoring her brief disappointment at not having identified any Spiral members, Sakura wrote the night off as a success. Everything would fall into place…eventually.
Ok that was enough reminiscing, time to get up. Spending the day in bed, although appealing, wasn’t really an option. Damned if she would be late for her fist trip to the mall in three years. Especially when it was to meet up with her new coworkers.
On closer inspection she found her newly acquired tub to be nothing more then a glorified kiddy pool, in that you had to fill the monstrosity yourself with buckets of water. And there certainly wasn’t enough time for that now. Pulling on the sweats she hadn’t allowed Jiraiya to help her change into, she grabbed the keys from where he had left them on the counter, and was out the door.
After an adventure on the bus system involving several fast food wrappers, a naked man, his pet mouse, and three wrong buses, Sakura just made it to their designated meeting place…twenty minutes late. Out of breath but ready with a rehearsed apology, she looked frantically around only to find that she was the first to arrive. Sakura was so relieved that it didn’t even bother her that it took another thirty minutes for the rest of the girls to show up.
“I can’t believe we agreed to meet so fucking early.” Ino was looking at her watch in disbelief. “Shika was totally pissed when the alarm went off.”
“I know what you mean Neji nearly took my head off before he realized what was going on.” TenTen sounded as if that had been kind of cute of him. “He’s not really a morning person.” Sakura raised an eyebrow at the clearly swooning woman.
Hinata looked at if she were sleeping with her eyes open leaning against an ever stoic Temari.
“Boys didn’t let you get any sleep, Hinata?” TenTen nudged her winking at the rest of them. Hinata blushed as red as a cherry tomato and averted her gaze.
“Boys?” Sakura questioned.
“That’s right.” Ino said giving her white-eyed friend a pat on the head. “Hina-chan here is out resident playa.” The red of Hinata’s face turned fire engine.
“Tsk Tsk don’t start acting all pure and chaste now just cus we got company” Ino waggled a finger at her in mock reprimand.
“Shino and K-kiba don’t mind sharing.”
“You hardly mind it either.” Ino continued teasing.
“What about you, Sakura?” TenTen stepped in, changing the subject to save Hinata from further embarrassment. “Anyone special warming the bed when you got up this morning?”
“Well, I haven’t really had time for a relationship.”
“So how long has it been since you last got some action? Like a week?” The four women waiting for her answer cringed at the horror of being abstinent for so long. Sakura looked at her feet not knowing how to respond.
“Holy crap, I know that look.” Ino cut it. “That’s an ‘it’s been years’ look. I think we got ourselves a born again virgin to corrupt, ladies.”
“We should get started then.” Temari joined the conversation, looking Sakura up and down she added. “Appears we’ve got our work cut out for us.”
Ino examined her and shorted, “It certainly does. What are you wearing?”
“Oh my god! Is that a matching sweats set from Fruit of the Loom? I think I have the same one in powder blue.” TenTen squealed.
Sakura stuck her tongue out at them, “It’s not fair to bash a girl’s ego so early in the morning. You’re supposed to be helping me.”
“It’s called constructive criticism.”
The five women made the rounds. Doing the loop once around the ground floor, then again around the second, and in and out of more dressing rooms then any sane person would want to see. By lunch Sakura had bought more clothes then she had ever owned in her entire life. Or at least that’s what if felt like lugging around all the bags.
“This is a lot more work then I remembered.” She said plopping herself down at the table in the food court.
“It’s good you aren’t a shop-a-holic. Dealing with one of those is almost more then I can handle.” Temari said eyeing Ino.
“Are you implying that I am a shop-a-holic?” Blues eyes narrowed. “Because I distinctly remember when someone bought six pairs of shoes in a single day!”
Temari shrugged, “I like shoes.”
Sakura was still laughing when Hinata and TenTen returned with the food. Conversation was put on hold as the girls downed their lunches.
Leaning back in her chair, Sakura let out a contented sigh. Licking the last of the sweet and sour sauce form her lips she was surprised to find how much she enjoyed the other women’s company. Their gentle banter was familiar and made her feel at ease. She began to think on what things she had been missing all these years by holding herself apart from others.
“Oh shit here come those Black Leaf Bitches.” Sakura turned in her seat to see three dark-haired women making there way towards them. “They think they’re untouchable just because they’re Itachi’s whores.”
The shortest of the women stepped in front of the other two when they reached the table. She was decked out in all leather. Leather boots, mini skirt, bra (which was masquerading as a shirt), and a long trench coat. “Well, well what do we have here? Could it really be the Skanky Spiral Sluts?”
Sakura’s breath caught in her throat. Spiral? Her eyes widened when she looked down at TenTen’s angrily twitching ankle which was tapping against her leg. Red and black. It was the tattoo. Her heart sped up. What had she said her boyfriend’s name was? Neji. Oh Holy Banana Splits. TenTen was Hyuuga Neji’s girlfriend! And Ino’s Shika must be Nara Shikamaru. Hinata was shacked up with Aburame Shino and Inuzuka Kiba. Shit! Everything made sense. The reason Tsunade had set her up as an employee at Come Come Paradise. Why Jiraiya had suddenly become convinced of her success after her first meeting with the girls. How none of them had been hit on in the club. No wonder the club was a common sighting place for Spiral, all their women worked there. Why hadn’t she picked up on it sooner? Sakura’s head was spinning. But escalating volume of the conversation around her drew her attention away from her swirling thoughts.
“Fuck you Anko because it’s pretty obvious you’re in need of a good hard one. Kisame finally realize what a shitty lay you are?” The spiky haired woman’s face flushed red. Temari’s chair scrapped the floor as she stood.
“Don’t”
One of the other women moved forward to hold back her friend. From the meticulously styled hair and empty dark eyes, to the stretchy white top with a large Red Cross safety-pinned to its front, everything about her screamed sadistic bitch. She gave Temari a poisonous smile.
“Your brother has a real sweet touch even if he calls out your name while we’re doing it.”
Temari flinched.
“And the things he does with that puppet. I was cumming for an hour. Did you teach him that? I wanted to thank you. It was an experience I won’t soon forget.” Temari was trembling, her eyes glazed over.
“That’s enough.” Sakura stood to everyone’s surprise, including her own. “Get lost.”
Anko jerked away from her friends restraining hand, “What’s wrong gumball girly?” She reached out and gave a fistful of pink hair a sharp jerk. “You better watch out or you’ll end up stuck to the bottom of someone’s shoe.”
“Don’t touch me.”
Anko laughed trailing her hands down Sakura’s hair to her chest. She gave her breast a rough squeeze. “What are you gunna d-”
Pow. Pow. Sakura’s fist smashed into the other woman’s face twice in quick succession. Everyone was silent as the blood trickled from Anko’s nose.
“Kurenai you better get Shizune and Anko out of here. You know they don’t like us fighting in public.” TenTen said.
“I don’t who you think you are but I know you’re unclaimed. You’re anyone’s meat. NO one makes me bleed especially some uppity newbie; you’re going to pay for this.”
The third woman guided the other two away. Anko looked back over her shoulder. “Better watch your back, bitch.”
Temari slowly sat back down. No one said a word.
Panic began to set in as Sakura’s adrenaline and anger ebbed away. “Shit. I’m so out of here.” This was seriously not good. She hurried to gather her bags. “I guess I’ll see you guys later tonight.”
“Sakura wait…” HInata looked at her pleadingly.
“I gotta go. See ya.”
Sakura couldn’t believe what had just happened.
She was still in shock when she locked the door to her apartment behind her. Back against the wall she slid down till she was sitting on the floor, hugging her knees o her chest. Well she had certainly established contact with Spiral members.
And physically accosted a Black Leaf Bitch! It couldn’t be that bad. She was just a nobody; they wouldn’t take the time to come after her, right? Awwww God. Who was she kidding? Black Leaf couldn’t afford to let anyone challenge their superiority. And they would be offended that it had been some slum club wench who’d bloodied one of their women. Shit Shit SHIT! Deep Breaths, Deep Breaths. This was nothing she couldn’t handle. She would just have to be more careful. Uh huh, Suuuure.
Moving on to the next problem. Spiral. Sakura experience an unexpected pang of regret as she realized the relationships with her new friends would be tainted by her duty as a Root member. Allowing herself to care about them for real was impossible. Feelings would only interfere with her objective.
She couldn’t deny that working at Come Come Paradise had been an excellent idea providing the perfect in to get up-close and personal with Spiral. Sooner or later if she remained on good terms with the girls she would be introduced to their gang member boyfriends.
Sakura felt a little better. The mission was looking good. She would just go back tonight and keep doing what she had been doing, mainly being herself an hopefully things would continue going well. There was a little anxiety over the Anko incident but she consoled herself with the confidence that she was a professional, trained to succeed in every situation. Probably.
Absentmindedly she picked out an outfit for work from her new clothes. Her apartment was only a few blocks from Come Come Paradise so she walked. The light was fading but the pavement was still warm from the heat of the day. She opened the red door without hesitation and made her way to the employee room.
TenTen, Temari, Hinata, and Ino were all there. “Hey.” Her entrance was a little awkward since all talking stopped.
“Are you ok?” Hinata asked softly. “We were worried about you.”
“I’m fine.” She tried for reassuring. TenTen and Ino didn’t look convinced but Hinata smiled up at her. “Sorry I ran off. That was just a little more intense then what I am used too. I can’t believe I actually hit her.”
“It was awesome.” TenTen gushed, “I’ll never forget the look on her face right after you socked it to her.” Her eyes were sparkling.
“It was stupid.” Ino interjected. “Anko was right you know. You’re anyone’s meat. You don’t have any back-up. Being related to Jiraiya might count for something but I’m sure he can’t protect you form Black Leaf.” Everyone fidgeted uncomfortably.
“Why did you do it?” Temari asked.
Sakura hadn’t expected the question and didn’t have time to think what would have been the best answer to she was honest. “She needed to be taught a lesson.”
“You shouldn’t have done it.”
“Probably not. But I can’t do anything about it now.”
“Sakura there is something that we should tell you.” TenTen looked at each of the other girls. “Ino, Temari, Hinata, and I are members of a gang called Spiral.”
“Yeah I figured.” Sakura smirked at their stunned faces waiting for explanation. “It wasn’t all that hard to figure out after the ‘Skanky Spiral Slut’ comment and I saw the tattoo on TenTen’s ankle.”
“We could offer you protection. We told the boys what happened today and they agreed to give you temporary status.”
Sakura’s heart jumped at the offer, then she frowned. She didn’t want to enter the gang in an act of pity, as some bit of fluff that needed to be protected. But she couldn’t turn it down completely. “Can I think about it?”
“Oh course, it would be a pretty big deal if you joined for real, they haven’t accepted a new member in a while.”
A white head stuck through the door, “And how are my pretties tonight?” He directed his gaze towards Sakrua. “Have you fully recovered my lovely blossom?”
She pushed him out of the way, “Of course.”
Soon Sakura was too busy to think about TenTen’s offer. The work was just as grueling as the night before but Sakura managed to keep up this time.
It was near closing when Sakura noticed a man sitting by himself in a corner staring at her. Recognizing a customer in need of a drink she made her way over to him.
“Can I get you anything?”
“Is your name Sakura?” His question startled her. Should she lie? Giving him the once over she figured tat he would probably be considered handsome but there was something a little off about him. The skin over his face was stretched a little too tight, and he was a little too pale almost a shade of blue. He looked exotic and mean. Blue bristly hair stuck out in spikes and his eyes were solid black, like a sharks’.
“Yeah it is.” She answered, plastering a strained smile across her face.
“Another.” He lifted his empty glass, shaking it so the ice clinked together.
“Gin and tonic?” He nodded his head once. She could feel his eyes on her all the way back to the bar. It totally creeped her out. She was back in a minute with the drink placing it down in front of him. Turning away she made a hasty retreat to the back room and got ready to leave.
The uneasy tingling up her spine lessened somewhat once outside. Sluggishly heading for home she welcomed the cool breeze on her heated skin, trying to relax. Sakura was so tired she was having difficulty staying upright.
She fell, foot catching on the uneven cement. Closing her eyes she braced herself for impact.
It never came. Someone was gripping her upper arm. The hand tightened.
“Oww. Not so hard.” Suddenly she was being dragged into a near-by ally. “Hey what…” She was slammed against the brick. She looked up at her abductor. It was spooky blue boy.
“What the fuck?!” He hit her close-fisted across the face and she crumpled at his feet. Sakura tasted blood. “Bastard” she spit at him. He kicked her in the stomach and smiled. His teeth had been filled into sharp points. Yuck.
“This is what you get for fucking with Black Leaf, whore.”
Sakura sighed, this sucked. He lifted her up by the hair and hit her again causing her head to snap back and smack against the wall. Stars exploded in her vision as she lay in a smelly puddle of indistinguishable liquid. Double Yuck.
Something moved into her line of sight. Actually it looked more like two something’s.
“Yo fish-breath what do you think you’re doing?”
“Step away from the girl Kisame.”
