--------------------------------------

After successfully getting Naruto to the bathroom, Sasuke made sure that he could manage on his own, “Are you sure you can stand?”

Naruto huffed and rolled his eyes, “Yes.”

Sasuke raised an eyebrow, “Fine, but if you fall on your ass and drown then it is your problem.”

Naruto picked up the nearest thing, which was a bar of soap, and tossed it at Sasuke’s retreating head; Sasuke, of course, turned and caught it deftly and set it on the sink before closing the door after himself. Naruto smirked and then started to remove his clothes. His body was still incredibly achy and his head was a little foggy, but not as bad as it had been. He supposed that meant he was getting better…maybe from being so near the Kyuubi in that dream.

He turned on the tap and felt the water change from cold to warm, then stepped into the shower. He groaned; it felt too damn good. He slowly cleaned himself as he let his thoughts run wild. And by running wild, it meant he was focusing on the one thing he had never allowed himself to focus on: Sasuke.

He thought about how strange it was for Sasuke to agree to help him. The “Uchiha Prodigy” was a cold-hearted bastard, right? Well, most of the time he was. Naruto knew that Sasuke had a soft side and apparently he was feeling pretty generous and ‘soft’ right now. Hell, Naruto could care less as to –why- Sasuke was being so un-Sasuke, he appreciated the help. He was glad that Tsunade had chosen Sasuke to look over him; it would give him the chance to hang out with Sasuke outside of training and missions and Team 7.

To hang out with Sasuke…

Naruto blushed at the image of him laying on top of Sasuke popped into his mind. He shook his head, causing him to wince as his vision went from clear to foggy to clear once again. Ok, no more nodding or shaking of the head…why the hell did that last scene pop into his head?

He and Sasuke would never…could never…

This fever was unlocking buried thoughts. Naruto squeezed his eyes shut as he prayed to –any- gods, spirits, or demons out there to help him get better soon!

He finished washing himself and then turned off the tap. After drying off, he dressed himself in the pajamas Sasuke had left for him; they smelled of Sasuke. Naruto was shocked to find himself enjoying that smell being so close to him, ‘Ok…clear your mind. You need sleep…and food. And then you will get better and you’ll be able to ignore these thoughts…just like before.’

--

“Dobe, are you done in there?” Sasuke called out from the other side of the bathroom door.

Naruto almost fell over his own two feet as he froze at the door, Sasuke’s voice causing another interesting image to enter his mind. How the hell did just his –voice- do that? That deep voice was driving him insane…it was soothing and…

Naruto groaned: NO MORE THOUGHTS LIKE THAT. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO MY CONTROL?

Sasuke’s brows furrowed as he heard a strange groan from inside the bathroom, “Oi, are you alright?”

Naruto rolled his eyes and glared at the ceiling, “Yeah. Fine…just got a little dizzy…I’m coming.”

He pulled open the door and stepped out to greet Sasuke. Sasuke looked him up and down and then extended his arm. Naruto almost dived backwards in his attempt to evade the limb, “W-what are you doing, teme?”

Sasuke looked almost…confused, “Checking to see if you still have a fever. Hold still already. Its not going to hurt, dobe.”

Naruto nodded and forced himself not to flinch as Sasuke reached over once again and placed his warm palm on Naruto’s forehead. Naruto gulped, ‘No bad thoughts…no bad thoughts…think of something else…don’t think about how soft his hand is…and oh my god why is this happening to me??? What the hell have I –done- to deserve this?’

‘You started to fall for your rival and teammate,’ an inner voice screamed at him over and over again. Naruto pushed it to the back of his mind. Ok, so at one point in his life he had –possibly- thought about the Uchiha in –other- ways than just friends…but what teenage boy doesn’t ponder strange things in the night?

‘-Possibly- thought about the Uchiha…that is an understatement…most boys don’t ponder how to get into their rivals’ pants…’

Naruto’s eyes widened and Sasuke looked at him strangely, “Are you sure you’re alright dobe? You got really pale…and you still have a fever. Maybe you should just sleep for a while and I can bring you food later.”

Naruto shook his head, “No…no I’m fine. I’m really hungry…look… I’m fine. I’m sure if I eat something, I’ll feel even better.” He smiled and stepped around Sasuke, heading towards the kitchen. Sasuke frowned and then shrugged as he turned to follow the blond ninja. Naruto was acting stranger than usual.

He watched Naruto as the boy sat down at the table and looked around the kitchen. It was almost as if…

‘As if he were avoiding looking at me…’ Sasuke thought as he set out two bowls and went to the stove to dish out the food he had prepared. He grabbed up the meal and set the ramen down on the table, then took his seat across from Naruto.

“This…looks good,” Naruto whispered as if in shock.

The corner of Sasuke’s mouth twitched, “Is that supposed to be a compliment?”

Naruto looked up, his face thoughtful, “Yeah I guess it is.”

Sasuke smirked, “Thanks then, dobe.”

“A—,” Naruto sighed, “Y-you’re welcome.”

The two ate their meal in silence, neither looking up from their bowls. When Naruto had finished his third helping, he leaned back and pat his stomach happily, “That was just what I needed. I feel a hell of a lot better already.”

Sasuke smiled softly, “Figures you’d feel better after eating ramen.”

Naruto blushed and rubbed the back of his head, “Heh…you know me. I live for ramen.”

Sasuke just nodded and took the dishes to the sink. He quickly washed everything and then dried the dishes and put them away. While he was cleaning up he could feel Naruto’s eyes following his every move. It was a little embarrassing, actually. He placed the last pot in the cabinet and then turned around, noting how quickly Naruto’s eyes darted to the other side of the room, “So dobe, what do you want to do now?”

Naruto’s gaze returned to Sasuke and he frowned, “I dunno…what is there to do in your house?”

Sasuke willed his mind away from the imagery that was trying to force it’s way front and center and shrugged, “Not too much. Since you aren’t allowed to do any training until the Hokage says, your only options are…reading and sleeping.”

Naruto couldn’t even form a coherent sentence, “W-what do you…I mean…why can’t I…. how come she…. NO TRAINING?”

Sasuke chuckled at the outraged look on Naruto’s face. The boy was absolutely shocked at this prospect. “Look…until you are better you aren’t allowed to over-exert yourself. You’ve been healing fast enough…you should be able to train again in a week or so…maybe.”

Naruto stood up and walked over to stand next to Sasuke, leaning his back on the counter, “A week…stuck here…with you. And I can’t train.”

Sasuke just nodded. He could feel Naruto’s body heat radiating from him and it was distracting him. He shifted from one leg to the other and spoke softly, “Is it really that horrible of a concept…staying here with me?”

Naruto blushed again, “N-not really…” This conversation was definitely taking an interesting turn. Naruto was wondering why he had decided to stand next to the Uchiha. He had been watching the boy and it had occurred to him how lonely he looked just standing there…and before he even realized what he was doing…he was standing by him. And with the direction this conversation was taking…he really wasn’t sure if he should be standing right next to the Uchiha.

Sasuke turned and reached out his hand, noting how Naruto didn’t jump back like before. He placed it gently on Naruto’s forehead and held it there as he checked for Naruto’s fever. Naruto’s skin was soft and warm, still too warm. The fever wasn’t as high as it had been, but it was still there. He looked at Naruto’s face, his eyes widening, the boy had closed his eyes…he looked so…peaceful.

Naruto stood with his eyes shut, praying that his blush would go away and that Sasuke would move his hand, but then a little voice was screaming for Sasuke to never move his hand. He liked the feel of the boy’s hand on his skin. He stopped at that thought…he couldn’t believe it. Ok, maybe he could…since these thoughts had been growing stronger the entire night against his will. He enjoyed being near Sasuke and having Sasuke touch him and help him. It felt…right…and just like he had imagined…

But…he shouldn’t enjoy this moment…Sasuke doesn’t care for him…not in the way that Naruto really wants him to. Naruto had already had this battle in the past. It was one of the worst battles he had ever fought: whether or not to stay just friends with Sasuke or to confess his feelings to Sasuke and (more than likely) ruin their friendship. In fear of loneliness, Naruto had opted to just remain friends. It was a cowardly way out, but at least he would still have his best friend by his side. After coming to such a harsh decision, Naruto had buried all of his ‘other’ feelings for the boy and put on his happy, goofy smile and regularly challenged his ‘rival’…no one knew anything about his ‘internal struggle’…it was the perfect act, right?
