Chapter 3

Sasuke was not going to open his eyes. He burrowed into his blanket, enjoying the warmth of the sun that was shining through the window. He lifted one eyelid slightly to peak at his clock. ~8:30? Not as late as I thought it would be.~ He rolled over and looked at the ceiling. He raised his arms over his head, stretching as he yawned. His fingers made their way to his mouth to cover his yawn, and he was immediately drawn back into the memory of the kiss he shared with Naruto. ~Why in the hell did I do that? I don’t like him that way, do I? I’ve never really thought about it. He’s Naruto. My friend, my best friend.~

Sasuke rubbed his eyes and swung his legs over the edge of the bed. He slipped his feet into his house shoes and walked into his bathroom. ~Why the hell did I do that?~ He squeezed some toothpaste onto his toothbrush and began brushing. ~He probably thinks that I am a complete nutcase now.~ He bent to spit in the sink and rinsed his mouth. ~What if he doesn’t want to be friends anymore?~ He dried his mouth with a towel and walked to the kitchen. He rubbed his stomach as said body part growled in hunger. ~I guess we didn’t eat very much last night. I’ll bet Naruto is hungry. If he doesn’t completely hate me, that is.~ Sasuke opened a cabinet and pulled down a canister of oatmeal. He started some water on the stove and got some coffee going.

While waiting for the water to boil, he walked to the front door and retrieved his newspaper from the front step. The sun was already shining brightly, and as summer was fast approaching, it was already heating up pretty good. He left the screen door open and left the actual door propped open so that the warm breeze filled the house, the scent of freshly mown grass hanging in the air.

He walked back to a boiling pot of water and finished making the oatmeal. He sliced a peach to throw in, and set everything on the table. He got down two bowls and two mugs. Despite the confusion muddling his brain, he couldn’t help but feel happy. Giddy even. He smiled to himself as he poured a cup of coffee. ~I hope he’s not mad.~ He sat down and unfolded his newspaper. ~I’m not.~

Naruto rolled over into the shady side of the bed when his face began to burn from the heat of the sun. He slowly opened his eyes. ~Where the hell am…oh yeah. Sasuke’s guest room .~ He fingers found their way to his lips, brushing against them lightly. His stomach flopped, and competing feelings of needing to throw up from nervousness and laugh uncontrollably from happiness crossed his face. ~Did he really kiss me? And I kissed back. What does that mean?~ He sat up and kicked the covers off his legs. ~What does it mean? I’ve never thought about Sasuke that way.~ He stood and ran his fingers through his hair. ~That was quite possibly the weirdest, most confusing, best night ever.~ He yawned, stretching onto his tiptoes. ~Ugh…I need a toothbrush, stat.~

Sasuke looked up over his reading glasses as Naruto padded barefoot into the kitchen, eyes still half-closed.

“You don’t happen to have a spare toothbrush, do you?” He looked up to see Sasuke sitting at the table, black-framed glasses perched in his nose. Naruto’s heart skipped a beat. ~Damn, he is handsome. Those glasses…wrinkled t-shirt…~ His lips tingled in remembrance of soft kisses applied gently.

Sasuke smirked as he watched the blonde’s features flit from drowsy and half awake to more awake and apparently happy. ~Well, he hasn’t tried to kill me, so it can’t have upset him too much.~

“Yeah, dobe. Look in the lower right drawer in my bathroom. I bought some at Costco, so you can have any color you want.” He smiled as the blonde grinned. “Toothpaste is behind the mirror.”

“Thanks. Be right back.” He turned and disappeared through the doorway.

Sasuke went back to his paper. ~He’s cute in the morning.~ He sipped his coffee and flipped to the political news section to catch up on the latest happenings. ~He doesn’t seem mad, so I guess that it wasn’t that bad.~ He took a bite of his oatmeal and pushed his glasses up. He read, but it wasn’t really sinking in. All he could think about was a pair of pajama pants that were a bit too tight.

Naruto walked back into the kitchen, definitely awake now, but with a scowl on his face. He walked to the table and with hands on his hips, glared down at Sasuke.

“What the hell, Sasuke”?

“Wha—What?” Sasuke stuttered, turning a bright shade of red.

“Oatmeal for breakfast? I do hope that you have something else. I’m not eating that crap.”

Sasuke recovered quickly. “Well, sorry to burst his majesty’s bubble, but some of us choose to eat healthier than others. I do have some shredded wheat in the cupboards.”

“Well, that’s a little better…” Naruto said, pulling on the handle, “Sasuke! This is plain shredded wheat! I mean something with frosting, marshmallows…”

“Well, you’ll not find that crap in this house.”

“Well, you said that about cherry coke.” Both boys blushed quickly, grins spreading on their faces.

“Don’t think that you’re going to get everything you want. In this house, we eat healthy for breakfast.” He blushed, thinking about the implications of ‘we’.

“But, Sasuke---”

“Just try the oatmeal, dobe. I promise it’s good. After all, I did make it.” He smirked.

“All right, just a taste. Let me have some of yours first.” He walked behind Sasuke’s chair and leaned down to grab the spoon in his hand. He scooped up some oatmeal and gave it a try.

“Mmm…this is pretty good, Sasuke,” he said dreamily. The black-haired boy shivered when he felt Naruto’s breath in his ear. He unconsciously leaned his head toward the blonde. Naruto pressed against Sasuke’s back to return the spoon to its bowl. He groaned inwardly when he felt Sasuke’s warm back against his chest, silky hair tickling his cheek. He noticed Sasuke’s heart pick up speed when their bodies touched, and felt Sasuke lean into him gently, a small sigh escaping his lips. He had a sudden urge to make more noised like that come out of the quiet boy’s mouth.

~This is probably a bad idea~ Naruto thought as he leaned down to press his lips to Sasuke’s neck just above his shirt. Sasuke sucked in a breath sharply as he felt soft lips against his skin. Naruto gently trailed kissed up Sasuke’s neck to his jaw.

Sasuke moaned softly and leaned his head back to rest against Naruto’s shoulder. The blonde kissed his way slowly across Sasuke’s cheek, reaching around with a hand to tilt Sasuke’s head to face his own. Sasuke’s heart raced as Naruto’s lips pressed against his. He kissed back, snaking an arm up and around Naruto’s neck pulling him closer.

Naruto tentatively nipped Sasuke’s lower lip with his teeth, causing the boy to gasp. Sasuke wound his fingers in blonde hair, pulling gently. Naruto placed one more chaste kiss on his lips before pulling back. He smiled widely at Sasuke.

“I think I’ll have a bowl.” He straightened and walked to the stove, filling his bowl with oatmeal. Sasuke gaped at him as he set his bowl across the table and turned around to pour himself a cup of coffee. Naruto sat down and began to eat. When he felt two holes burning a hole in his forehead, he looked up.

“What’s the matter, Sasuke?”

“Noth---nothing,” he stammered.

“Then quit staring and eat your breakfast.” The blonde grinned at his friend. “And hand me the comics, if you don’t mind.” Sasuke chuckled softly as he handed over the requested section. He watched Naruto open it up and read, laughing quietly every so often. Sasuke shook his head, smiling, and went back to his reading.

They sat in silence, alternating between eating and passing sections of the paper back and forth. Sasuke was pleased to know that Naruto did in fact read other sections of the paper, not just the funnies. Naruto was in turn pleased to find out that Sasuke liked comics. He watched Sasuke laugh and shake his head.

“What’s so funny?”

“Did you read Get Fuzzy?”

“Yeah, that was a good one!”

“Bucky is so evil…we should get a cat.” Sasuke looked up at Naruto quickly when he realized what he had just said. The blonde stared at him for a minute.

“Where would he stay?”

“With us, dobe.”

“No, I mean, whose house?” ~Remember, I don’t live with you…although, the way this little sleepover has turned out, it doesn’t sound like it would be that bad.~

“Oh…why not here? You could see him whenever…” Sasuke mumbled, pleased with himself as to where this conversation was going and what it might mean. ~I think I really like this idea. A cat, something we can care for together. He’d probably come over more often. I definitely like this idea.~

“What kind of cat?”

“I don’t know. How about we go to the humane society and see what they have?”

“Okay, that sounds good…I always wanted a pet, but Iruka won’t let me because his allergies are so bad. When do you want to go?”

“How about this afternoon?”
“That sounds like a plan to me, my friend. I have my homework done already, so my weekend is free.”

“Yeah, me too. That calc homework was a breeze.”

“Yeah, but it was kinda fun.”

“You are so weird, dobe.” Sasuke stood and took their dishes to the sink. He looked out the window at the beautiful weather.

“Hey, do you want to walk down to the Saturday market?”

“Maybe…do you have some clothes I could borrow?”

“Yeah, you’re about the same size as me, they should fit okay. I’ll go grab you some.” He walked to his bedroom and went to the closet. He flipped through shirts until he found one of his favorites, a blue button up. It was a little big on him, so it would fit Naruto fine. ~And he can wear his own jeans. Mine won’t fit him.~ He grabbed a white undershirt and some socks and turned around to see Naruto standing directly behind him.

“Geez, stop sneaking up on me!” Sasuke cried. Naruto reached out and took the clothing from Sasuke’s hands.

“I like this shirt. Can I use your shower?”

“Please do. You stink to high heaven,” Sasuke said with his trademark smirk.

“Hey!” Naruto laughed. “You aren’t smelling so rosy yourself!” He punched Sasuke in the arm lightly. Somehow the hand ended up wrapped around said arm, pulling the dark-haired boy close again. Naruto pecked him on the cheek and let go. He walked out of the room, slightly dazed from everything that had happened in the past few hours, leaving an equally dazed Sasuke in his wake.

* * * * *

Sasuke looked from his seat on the couch to see Naruto walk out of the hallway, folding up the sleeves of his shirt as he moved. He stood and walked to the front door, sliding on a pair of sandals.

“You ready to get going?”

“Yep! How do I smell? Better?” Naruto asked, fighting a grin as he tried to look as innocent as he could.

Sasuke walked up to face the blonde. He leaned forward until Naruto could feel the boy’s breath on his neck. Sasuke inhaled deeply, closing his eyes. Naruto’s heart raced when Sasuke exhaled, warm breath hitting his skin. Sasuke grabbed the back of Naruto’s head and pulled, exposing more of the blonde’s neck. He breathed in again.

“You smell wonderful…” he said, in Naruto’s opinion, with the sexiest voice he had ever heard in his life. Naruto gasped when Sasuke’s tongue slid along his neck suddenly, skin warm, then cooling as Sasuke moved up to his ear. He sucked on the blonde’s earlobe, earning him a not so quiet moan in return. Reluctantly, Sasuke pulled away, looking Naruto in the eyes.

“We should be on our way, don’t you think?” He smiled a big, warm, real smile at his friend and turned to leave. He made it one step before he felt hands on his shoulders, swinging him back around.

~No way is he getting away with that!~ Naruto kissed Sasuke, holding him closely, one hand on the small of his back, the other on the side of his face, holding his hair back. He licked Sasuke’s lower lip slowly.

“Ahhh…” Sasuke moaned, allowing Naruto to gently slide his tongue into the other boy’s mouth, eliciting another, louder moan. Sasuke wrapped his arms around Naruto tightly, getting as close as he possibly could. He returned the kiss, both boys shivering as their tongues met. Hands gripped tighter as they kissed passionately, hearts beating faster than they ever had before.

When kissing, one often forgets the necessity of breathing.

They parted slowly…panting, gasping, flushed, bewildered, excited, exuberant.

Sasuke placed one final kiss on Naruto before reaching down to hold his hand, their fingers entwining. Naruto squeezed back and smiled.

“Let’s go.”

They walked to the door, still holding hands. Sasuke opened the door for the blonde, and they left the house, letting go as they made their way out into the sun.
