Cutie for a Roommate:
Neji knocked on the wooden door, and they both awaited an answer. A loud thump was heard, coming from the other side of the door. Naruto threw glanced over at Neji, who looked un-perplexed. Suddenly the door was roughly tugged open revealing a disheveled boy, who looked to be around Naruto’s age if not a year or two older.
The boy leaned against the door a smile on his face. His small slim arm reached up and brushed a stray hair that had escaped from his low ponytail, out of his large brown eyes, that looked warming at Neji.
“Hey Neji. Is there something I can do for you?” The brunette said completely missing the blonde that stood next to the taller boy.
“Your new roommate has arrived, get him settled in, I’ll pick him up in half an hour. Don’t keep me waiting” he said emotionless, and then quickly making his entrance, he forgot to do introductions.
“Tch, Bastard” Naruto whispered under his breath. He turned to the boy who was staring at him. Naruto held out his hand. “Uzumaki Naruto, pleased to meet you”
“Haku, pleasure. Oh, and don’t mind Neji, he’s always like that, once you get to know him though, he’s got a soft heart” Haku smiled and shook the proffered hand.
“That’s hard to believe” Naruto said with a smile of his own.
“How ‘bout we get you settled in, I’ll show you to your room, Are you hungry or anything, we could grab a bite before we unpack?” Haku bent down to help bring in Naruto’s luggage.
“Ahh, no need to carry those, I got it. And I’m not all that hungry.” He took the bags out of Haku’s hand. “Nonsense, I’ll go get us something to eat, after we show you to your room.”
“No, no really, I’m not-” Instantly the brunette rounded on the blonde, glaring at him.
“You will eat and you will like it!” Naruto shrunk back in fear, holding his hands up to protect him from any attack.
“o….ok” With that said Haku instantly reverted back to his usual calm, happy self, making Naruto stare at him.

The small dorm room was a comfortable size. It came with its own bathroom completed with a shower stall. There was a mini kitchen but no stove and a small living room that had a TV in one corner and a small crème colored loveseat. Naruto sat down, on the loveseat waiting for Haku to finish what he was doing in the kitchen.
He looked around the room at the many pictures hanging on the wall. Mainly of Haku and a taller Man that looked to be in his early twenties. In all the pictures, while Haku was smiling, the other man glared at the camera, but it was evident in his eyes that he was having a fun time.
“Naruto, come here!” Naruto tore his eyes away from the pictures and walked into the kitchen.

Haku and Naruto sat opposite each other at a small round table, both having a ham sandwich in their hands, complete with lettuce, ham, cheese, and mayo. Naruto brought the sandwich to his mouth and bit into it. He sighed with joy, like a man who hasn’t eaten in weeks.
“I haven’t had one of these in ages! I forgot just how wonderful they tasted.” Naruto’s voice came out in a soft purr. His eyes were closed with a content smile upon his face. He took a small bite savoring the taste of the bread and ham in his mouth. Haku stared at his new found friend with worry. Naruto looked down at his half eaten sandwich a sad smile on his face. He stopped his chewing and continued to stare at the small memory in his hands.
FLASH BACK:
*************************************
A young boy of the age of 8, could be found wandering the grounds near a small orphanage. His usually bright mop of blonde hair was marred with dirt. Dull blue eyes stared at the moving ground beneath his feet. Having nowhere that he could go he let his legs guide himself around aimlessly.
At his young age he already tasted to bitterness of life. He wasn’t liked at the orphanage. No one ever wanted to play with him, so he stuck to himself, and founf things to do. The Owners of the orphanage never bothered to do anything to stop the young boy from leaving the orphanage, but instead they were anxious to see him leave only to be disappointed to see him come back.
The boy found himself walking back towards the orphanage after finding nothing to do. He stopped when he was close enough to hear the kids laughing and playing around building which was fenced off for protection of the outside world. But instead of going inside, he stood there. He stared unblinking as he heard the voices filled with laughter come from the building. They were having fun with out him, just like they always did. The boy looked away with sad eyes, eyes that held such sadness that no 8 year-old should know of. The boy walked away from the large building and towards the playground found not to far away form orphanage.
He walked around the small playground searching for something. He stared at the ground just as he did earlier that day. Only when his feet stopped did he look up. In front of the boy, hung from a tree, was a small wooden swing. It moved slightly in the evening breeze. The Boy took one of the strings in his hand to hold the swing still as he mounted it. He shuffled his feet on the ground to push the swing back and forth. The swing began pushing itself. His small feet scrapped at the dirt beneath him.
He didn’t realize just how late it had gotten, his stomach growled to get his attention. He hadn’t eaten since breakfast that day, and even then he hardly ate anything. He ignored his stomach and continued to swing. A slight shuffling on the ground behind him caught the boy’s attention. He quickly adjusts his position on the swing so he could see behind him. But looking over his shoulder he sees nothing. He jumped off the swing and landed on his back, when he heard a voice whisper into his ear.
“What are you doing out so late little boy? Shouldn’t you be at home?” The voice was deep and smooth. But the voice also held a calmness that kept the boy on the ground relaxed.
“I would be if I had a home to go to.” His voice was soft and held sadness in it. The boy looked at the shadowed figure. He couldn’t see quiet well since it was so dark out. The Figure shifted.
“What’s your name kid” He didn’t want to say. Every time he did they always left him. Everyone hated him. He considered lying but thought against it. There was no point in lying; he would only be liked under a false identity.
“Uzumaki Naruto.” He whispered so softly the other barely caught it. But he did.
“Ohh...well aren’t you cold?” Naruto shook his head. It was the first person to not abandon him after hearing his name.
“Are you hungry? You’ve been sitting here for a while now, and it looks like you haven’t eaten in a while, have you?” The figure held out a hand to Naruto, offering to help the boy up. Naruto gladly took the hand and stood up, dusting off his pants. He looked up at the dark figure.
“I am a little sir. It’s nothing to worry about.” His stomach chose that chance to growl really loud causing the older man to chuckle.
“How about I get you something to eat? Come on, follow me” the figure walked silent towards the opposite end of the play ground. Naruto tried to keep up with the man’s long stride. He followed the man silently not thinking of the possible consequences that could lie ahead. His only thought was, he finally found someone.
He found himself in front of a very large house. It looked welcoming, as the man walked up the front steps. He pulled out a key and slowly turned the knob. Once the door was opened, the stranger turned around and motioned for Naruto to fallow.
Once inside, the man turned on the light. For the first time since they met, Naruto saw what the man actually looked like. He was tall and wore a long black trench coat the hugged his body perfectly. His hair was tied back in a low pony tail, which kept his bangs out of his eyes.
Naruto looked at the man’s face and couldn’t help but stare at the man’s captivating eyes. They were a blood red with hints of blacks in them. Naruto couldn’t help but stare. Only when a soft chuckle was heard did Naruto look away with a blush, only then noticing he had been staring.
“They are contacts, Do you like them?” Naruto nodded. “So let’s go get you something to eat” The man led Naruto a large kitchen. Naruto took a seat on one of the many stools that lined the large island.
“So what do you want to eat?” The man looked at Naruto over the fridge door. Naruto shrugged in response not looking at the man. He was beginning to wonder why he was in a stranger’s house. “How bout I make us a ham sandwich?” With out waiting for Naruto to replay he started to pull out the necessary ingredients. That caught Naruto’s attention.
“What’s a ham sandwich?” The boy asked in wonder. The name was absolutely alien to him. The orphanage never taught him what he needed to know. He taught himself by observing the outside world, but he never did learn much. The older of the two stopped his hand midway in the air when he heard Naruto speak.
“Are you serious? What do they feed you in that orphanage?” He asked astonished.
“Well for me they don’t really bother to feed me anything special, mostly porridge. But I’m alright with it really” he wasn’t looking at the other man. “Just as long as I’m alive and have something to eat, right?” Naruto looked up and flashed the older one a sad smile. The stranger’s eyes soften.
Not saying anything else the older man Continued to make the little boy a ham sandwich. Once finished, there was a plate in front of the both of them. Not waiting for the other man to settle down, Naruto dug into his share. It tasted wonderful Naruto looked at the man with a full mouth. He smiled, a true smile, a smile that hasn’t been shown in long time. Swallowing he slowed down and ate at a steady pace. Once finished, he silently thanked the man. Upon doing this, he realized one thing he had been missing ever since he had met the older man. He didn’t know his name.
“Umm, sir, I still don’t know your name??” Naruto scratched the back of his head in embarrassment. The guy chuckled at Naruto’s antics.
“Well you can call me—
END FLASH BACK:
A soft tug on his sleeve brought him out of his daze.
“What?? What’s going on?” He looked around, his gaze landing on Haku’s worried brown eyes. Instantly alert. “What’s wrong Haku did something happen?”
“…You’ve been staring at your sandwich for the pass 5 minutes, with this really weird look on your Face…I-it kind of freaked me out. And not to mention that I’ve been calling your name but got no response.” Haku looked at Naruto in hope that he would explain. Naruto blinked, once, twice, and broke out into a grin.
“Aww, Its nothing to get wound up for, I just spaced out for a while, is all. It happens often.” He scratched his head looking peevish “Oh and this sandwich is really good!” He complimented Haku hoping to get off the subject. Haku happily complied with Naruto and changed the subject.
“Thanks, my mother taught me how to make them when I was younger.” After that they both ate in a comfortable silence. Once finished they went into the small living room. Haku walked over to the couch and sat down. Naruto following Haku’s lead gave a shrug of his own and sat down. They talked until Neji showed up. Before leaving Naruto whispered to Haku.
“Hey, is Neji always so tense like that??” He whispered behind his hand. Haku giggled at that and shooed Naruto and Neji out of the small apartment/ dorm room. Haku thought of his new found friend. ‘This is definitely going to be an interesting year’. He thought to himself.
He skipped off to call up a friend.
