Chapter 3: Guys Aren't Cute!

Okay the first two chapters are old chapters meaning that I have posted them before while Chapter 3 and onwards are new ones.

Yeah I know I am really slow in updating but please bear with me because I have a job and the only time I can really write is on weekends. So sorry everyone and I feel really bad for making people wait. I know because I hate it too when that happens to me T__T

Chapter 3: Guys Aren't Cute!
****************************

Well, they didn’t exactly stop by a ramen shop since there was none on their way. Naruto didn’t mind where Neji took him to, as long as he could fill his empty and growling stomach for tonight. They stopped by a small restaurant which thankfully had something decent for him to eat.

“So… Kiba told me that you’re here to look for a job, right?” asked Neji.

“Hmm? Yeah. That’s right.”

The longhaired man watched Naruto in amusement as he stuffed himself with a large-sized burger and some fries at the ame time as if he hadn’t eaten for days.

“Here, you can have mine,” Neji offered, pushing his plate of burger and fries to Naruto as the blue-eyed man looked
longingly at Neji’s untouched food.

“You sure?” Naruto asked Neji, who nodded in reply. “Thanks!” he replied, face beaming brightly like the sun, as he quickly bit off a large chunk of the burger.

“So… what kind of job do you do?”

“Oh…this and that…odd stuff…previously I work at a grocery store. But I got fired last week…” the blue-eyed man lightly scratched his nose as if he wasn’t too sure how to say it out.

“Fired?”

“Mmph. I had a fight with the store keeper over something…it’s…it’s just a misunderstanding that’s all…” Neji saw the smaller man avoiding his eyes while shrugging his shoulder at the statement.

“I see.” The taller man ponder over this, clearly Naruto was lost in deep thought. He sensed that there was something more behind what Kiba’s little friend was willing to tell. This smaller guy really intrigued him. Some dark secret hidden behind a bright smile. Everyone has their own little skeleton in their closet right? And Neji’s little brain cells just love a good challenge.

“Where were you staying before?”

“At an orphanage. Don’t know whether you heard of it. Sandaime Orphanage. It’s outside further of the city, not a big place really.”

“Oh…” The dark haired man felt genuinely sorry for the poor guy, “… sorry”

“It’s nothing. I never knew my parents so it didn’t matter much. Anyway, the orphanage isn’t as bad as you’d think. I got into quarrels with the Old Hag millions of times, but I know she meant well.”

“Old Hag?”

“Tsunade. She’s the one who runs the whole place. Usually when we reached 19 years of age we could leave the orphanage, go out, get a job and get on with your life like other normal people but I stayed there to help out the Old Hag. She needed all the help she can get. So, Neji what about you?”

“What about me?” asked Neji.

“Well, I’d like to know a little more about you.”

“Fine. But why don’t we make this into a little game instead?” suggested the brunette, smiling. Great! A chance to get to know little cutie here better.

“Game?”

“Yup. Each one of us has three chances of asking the other about anything that he wants. The one being asked the question must answer truthfully, understood?”

“O~kay. I guess…” Naruto wasn't too sure with the idea but agreed nonetheless.

“Good.” said Neji, “I’ll start first. What’s your hobby?”

“Well… I like watching movies, and hanging out with Konohamaru and the rest of the kids at the orphanage, I guess.”

“Okay. Your turn.”

“Um…how old are you?” the blonde asked Neji curiously.

“I know I’m older than you.” replied Neji with grin, “Okay…I’m 25,” he added quickly when he saw Naruto’s eyebrow knitted in a slight frown. “Right! My turn! Do you have someone special?”

“Eh?” Naruto blinked in surprise by the rather personal question. “Err…no," answered the blonde. Yes! Neji's smile widen at the answer.

“Why do you ask?” asked Naruto.

“Is that the question you’re going to use?”

Naruto gave a nod. “Okay…just curious that’s all…you look too cute not to have someone special to dote on you,” Neji replied grinning widely.

The blonde blushed furiously. “Hey! I’m not cute!” he knew his face was red as a tomato but couldn’t do anything to hide it. “Cute is for girls. You don’t call guys cute!” he pouted indignantly. Yup. Definitely cute. Thought Neji.

“See?” he pointed out his finger and flicked Naruto’s nose, “If that isn’t cute then what is?” and he laughed out loud at the blonde’s annoyed look.

“Hmph! My turn. What’s your family like?”

“Uninteresting.”

“What kind of answer is that? It’s too short!” Naruto wondered whether Neji was purposely trying to goad him.

“Too bad. Next time you should make it clearer like ‘explain in detail what your family’s like’ that sort of thing.”

“Cheater!” fumed the blonde at Neji’s trickery causing the taller man to laugh.

At that moment the door to the restaurant opened and in stepped a group of young men and women, laughing and looking as if they were having a good time. One of the women among the group looked over to where Naruto and Neji were seated and practically jumped with excitement.

“Yohoo!! Neji!” a woman in red tube top and dark blue jeans called out and waved to Neji.

Neji turned around with slight smile and waved back her.

“What are you doing here?” she asked running to where they sat and stared curiously at Naruto who was sitting opposite of Neji. “Who’s your cute friend here?”

Neji laughed while the blonde’s flushed a little at the mention of him being ‘cute’. He gave Naruto a see-I-told-you-so kind of look.

“This is Naruto,” Neji motioned to Naruto.

“Hi,” said the blonde smiling, reaching out his hand to shake her hand. She had a childish look about her or maybe it was the way she had her dark hair rolled up into buns at each sides of her head.

“Naruto, this is Tenten. She’s my-”

“Girlfriend!” she ended Neji’s sentence for him with a dazzling smile.

“Ha...ha…Tenten…very funny,” said Neji, rolling his eyes.

“Sorry! Just kidding! We went to the same school back then,” said Tenten, patting Neji’s shoulder.

“And since then she has been hounding me wherever I go,” said Neji with a laugh, “She’s officially my stalker, Naruto.”

“Hey! I am not. It’s just a coincident that we grew up in the same neighbourhood and went to the same primary and high
schools.”

“Uh-huh…not to mention the same college, my dear Tenten,” said Neji drawling.

“Meanie!” Tenten pinched Neji. “Anyway, I heard you accepted Desert Storm’s challenge, Neji.”

“Yeah… so?” Neji shrugged his shoulder looking nonchalant about the matter.

“Why didn’t you tell me about it!” she yelled to Neji, frowning.

“Whoa… keep your cool, girl. What’s there to tell anyway? You already knew it didn’t you?” Neji said.

“That’s not the point, Neji. Are you mad!?” she said shaking her head. “When’s the race?”

“Two weeks time.”

“So, what did Shika have to say about this?”

“Nothing much, just his usual “Mendokuse” routine. Relax, Tenten, it’s just like the other races we’ve had before.”

“Baka! This is different. You could get killed this time. You know The Sands are a dangerous bunch of wackos, don’t you!?”

“…” Neji stuck a finger in his ear and had a bored look on his handsome face as the girl beside him rambled on, “Urusai…” he said in a slight irritated voice.

“Neji! Are you even listening to me?” Tenten gave the longhaired man a scowl.

“How can anyone listen when you’re screeching like a banshee?”

The girl sigh, “Oh never mind! Tell me you’re going to call off the race, right?”

The taller man shook his head, “No way! I never backed down a race once I accepted it!”

“Pfttt… men and their pride,” she said with scorn.

“Hey. I promise nothing’s going to happen, okay?” He knew Tenten meant well but sometimes she overly protective.

“Yeah… you’d better… I don’t want a dead boyfriend…or I’ll have to find someone else,” said Tenten with a chuckle.

“Hah… As if you could find someone else better than me, Tenten-chan,” said Neji jokingly.

Ten-ten stuck out her tongue but smiled nonetheless, “Yeah right, Mr Smarty Pants. Hey… got to go now… my friends are calling… ja!” she ruffled Neji’s long midnight hair.

“Cut…it…out!” said Neji quickly combing his hand through his hair to smooth his hair, making sure that not a strand
of hair ran out of place.

The girl gave a cheeky grin, “You’re so conceited about your hair as usual!”

“Hmph. You’re just jealous. Now go and leave me alone, will you?” he said shooing her away.

“Hai… hai… bye-bye Naruto! See you around!” Tenten waved and then head back to her group of friends.

Naruto waved back with a smile, “Err… she’s nice,” he said to the taller man who looked a little relief when Tenten had left them alone.

“Yeah… she’s a good friend… fiercely loyal once you know her. Right… shall we go?” Neji head to the counter and paid for the food.

“So…you race huh, Neji?” Naruto looked at Neji with new found wonder, when they got back to his car.

“Yeah… me and my baby here,” the taller man smiled, patting the trunk of his car, “We’re pretty much inseparable.”

“Wow.”

The long-haired man put on his shade when he got in, “It’s even better if you see it for yourself. Ever seen a street race before?”

“No. I don’t go around places much and this is the first time I’ve been away from the orphanage, really,” the blue eyed man scratched his cheek slightly, perhaps embarrassed at not being that worldly at the age of 23.

“Don’t worry. I’ll take you there next time, okay?”

“Thanks. But are you going to be alright? I mean Tenten did say it was dangerous.”

“Naruto. Tenten has been mothering me since we were kids. She just worries too much.”

“Well, okay, if you say so…”

“Oh. We’re almost there. Kiba’s place should be round the next corner.”

“Wow! What’s that tall building over there?” said the blonde in excitement as two towers stood magnificently tall, clearly the tallest buildings in the whole of the city.

“That’s the Uchiha Twin Tower. The pride of Konoha”

“I’ve never seen anything like it…” said Naruto in awe, his eyes lit up brightly like a child who had found a new toy. “The person who owes it must be one hell of a rich guy.”

“Damn right. The whole of Konoha practically belong to him.”

“Eh!? Kidding me, right?” Naruto stared back at the tall building. He wondered how one whole city could belong to just one man.

“We’re here,” said Neji parking his car near a large two-storey building, “I’ve left a message on Kiba’s cell phone. He should be down here any minute now.”

A few minutes later the front door of the building flung open and a scruffy brown haired man with red tattoos on his face stepped out, wearing a canine grin. Naruto had always wondered whether his friend had some animal blood in him.

Inuzuka Kiba was the same as he remembered when they were way back in high school, except he looked a bit taller than before and had dozen of piercings in both ears, and a small ring pierced through his lower lip.

“YO! NARUTO MY MAN!!” called the man grinning widely, saluting to Naruto. A big white dog pushed the man aside, causing Kiba to nearly miss his footing on the stairs, yelling “Hey! Akamaru!” The dog jumped down the front steps, and dashed
to the blonde.

“Arff!!” barked the dog jumping onto the smaller man in excitement.

“Umph!” the dog knocked Naruto to the ground, preventing the blue eyed man from getting up with his weight. “Heheh…Akamaru!!... How are you buddy!!” said Naruto laughing, as Akamaru licked playfully all over his face, "Hey…hahaha…Cut it off, boy!...Hahah…No more licking!!!”

Neji couldn’t help but smile, “God, Kiba, go and stop Akamaru before he drowned blondie here in his saliva.”

Thanks dakara for pointing out Kiba's family name. Didn't realized I spelt his name wrong because I usually have the names checked out first. I guess I missed that one. Yeah, but Inuzuki did sound way cuter XP. The mendokuse thing I had it changed too. I don't know how it's spelt really, but thank you ^^
