Chapter 3
"I assume you're wondering why I gathered you all here," the Hokage said, addressing the men present. "It has come to my attention that a member of the esteemed Hyuga family has been kidnapped."
"WHAT? WHO?" Naruto shouted as he stood up. Kakashi put his arm out in front of Naruto.
"Please, Naruto, sit down when the Hokage is speak," Kakashi whispered to Naruto. Naruto paused, eventually doing what he was told.
"Hinata Hyuga. Our sources tell us that she is currently being held captive somewhere in the Sand Village,” the Hokage continued. “We have attempted to contact diplomats of the Sand Village, but so far communications have proved unsuccessful. I have chosen at this point to consider this move an act of war against the Leaf Village.”
“Hokage, are you serious?” This time the speaker was Might Guy. “How long has it been since the Hyuuga went missing?”
“The Hyuuga child has been missing for the past five days now. We have contacted leaders of the Sand Village, but they have refused to cooperate. Those affiliated with the Leaf Village have been denied entry to the Sand Village. Our goal now is to rescue the Hyuuga child at any cost.”
“I understand, Hokage. I will do whatever I must to defend the Leaf Village,” Kakashi said.
“I am glad,” the Hokage said. “As you all know, we overwhelm the Sand Village in every respect -in skill, in finance, and in number- but they have one thing on us. They have Gaara. Gaara holds a demon inside him that could destroy our whole villiage. Our only chance of defeating Gaara would be with a demon of our own.” Naruto’s head perked up. “Naruto, you are the only one who can defeat Gaara. The only possible way would be to remove the seal, unleashing the demon inside of you. From that point, you’d have to take control of the nine-tailed fox, and use it to defeat Gaara. After defeating Gaara, we will reseal the fox inside of you.”
“That’s crazy! This is a suicide mission! How am I supposed to take control of the nine-tailed fox?”
The Hokage paused upon hearing this. “You can do anything when the stakes are high, Naruto.” Naruto stared at him confused. “If you manage to defeat Gaara, then upon your return I will pass my title of Hokage down to you.”
The room stared at the Hokage in bewilderment. Kakashi smiled at Naruto through his veil. “This is not simply a present, Naruto. The title is an understatement when you compare it to the gravity of this mission.”
Naruto was the only one in the room not looking at the Hokage in the eyes. Naruto stared at the ground and grinned weakly. “I understand, Hokage.”
"Why should we entrust the rank of Hokage to a thirteen year old?" a lone voice shouted.
The Hokage spoke. "Naurto is the only ninja capable of defeating Gaara. If Gaara is not defeated, there will no longer be a Leaf Village, or a Hokage. Should Naruto complete his objective, he shall earn his just reward for saving all of our lives. That is my decision."
The Hokage existed the room, and everyone remaining inside it fell silent.
"WHAT? WHO?" Naruto shouted as he stood up. Kakashi put his arm out in front of Naruto.
"Please, Naruto, sit down when the Hokage is speak," Kakashi whispered to Naruto. Naruto paused, eventually doing what he was told.
