Shopping for a kid (Head scratch)

Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto.

Note: Thank you for all the reviews so far, and to those who were'nt so brutal at my first story. In this story Naruto will be more mature. I'm sorry if it seems a bit rushed, I only have about 2 hours to myself a day, and I rush almost everything I do, but hopefully you will still like this story. But again I would like to thank all of you for simply reading my story.
Chapter 4 and on I will try to slow things down a bit so that you can really enjoy the story more.

The pair entered the village and went unnoticed among the bustling people. ‘Hmm, I guess I should get him some supplies for school, and then perhaps some clothes for bed, but before I do any of that I should check on the Hokage.’

They approached a noodle shop on their way in. Kakashi noticed an ANBU captain sitting with a little boy by his side. He and Naruto walked up to the pair.

“Good Morning Itachi. I see your taking care of your brother, Sasuke I believe."

The little boy next to him smiled at him, for knowing his name. Sasuke wasn’t use to people knowing him by his first name, he was always in his brothers shadow, but that was ok with him. He loved his brother a lot, and so did many people.

Itachi Uchiha is considered one of the leaf villages top shinobi, besides his natural talent in Taijutsu, Genjutsu, and Ninjutsu, he also possessed a special ninja trait called a blood line limit. It is a skill made exclusive to the people of his clan, the sharingan.

The sharingan has many uses, it can analyze an opponents fighting techniques, and instantly copy it. Few people have ever seen the true extent of its powers, usually because they ended up dying.

Sasuke would return home everyday and be pushed by his father, his father made him suffer in the hopes that the boy would become an equal to Itachi or stronger. He was never treated as well as Itachi.

But Itachi treated Sasuke like he was his only real friend. He spent all of his free time with Sasuke, either on the training grounds, at the park, or even just reading him a book in their garden. Sasuke always thought his brother was the best guy ever.

“I’m sorry to do this Itachi, but could you perhaps watch my…child. While I go see the Hokage. ” Itachi just nodded and smiled to the blonde boy beside him. But his eyebrows raised as he looked at Kakashi again

“Your child?”

“I’ll explain it to you when I get back.” Itachi merely nodded again.

Kakashi handed some money to Naruto. “Grab yourself something to eat, okay? I’m sure I saw you throwing that rabbit I killed for breakfast, off of your plate.” He smiled as the boy's eyes widened, and he blushed. “Listen, if I was your age I would have thrown the rabbit to my dads face."Naruto smiled again,“Thanks Kakashi.”

Naruto turned toward the ramen stand and Kakashi headed towards the Hokage tower. “Well, it seems Kakashi is very fond of you. He rarely shows a hint of a smile to anyone else.” Naruto nodded and blushed slightly.

“So, did I overhear that your name was Naruto?” He just nodded again.

Sasuke spoke up “You sure are talkative in the morning.” He laughed as Naruto turned red again. “So what can I get for you” the man behind the counter said. “I don’t know…I’ve never eaten out before” The man scratched his head. Sasuke looked shocked, but quickly took it from there. “My friend would like a bowl of Miso Pork Ramen” He offered the man Naruto’s money, and smiled at him.

Naruto couldn’t believe it, a boy his age smiled at him, and even more he called him his friend. He had never had a friend and he never felt so much happiness at once. With red cheeks he looked up at the other boy “Did you mean it…I mean that you’re my friend?” He instantly looked at the ground as if he said something stupid.

“Of course I did. Man, someone must have really done a number on you.” His older brother looked at him and grinned. “Sasuke I have to get to training grounds. Please watch after Naruto, and tell Kakashi that I had to leave early.”

“No problem bro”

Sasuke hugged Naruto to him, “We’re gonna be best friends.” Naruto felt his stomach flutter. ‘Is this what it feels like to have friends?' The two boys ate their food while talking about what they could do in Konoha later.

Konoha offered so much more than his village did. “So Naruto, your dad’s a jounin huh.” Naruto looked up at him. He shook his head. “I never knew my father. And yesterday…my mother died.”

Sasuke regretted what he asked as he looked at Naruto. “It’ll be alright Naruto, okay? I don’t really know my father either, he never spends any time with me when I’m home. And my mom ignores me all the time…I guess it comes with being Mr. Perfect's , younger brother.”

Both boys were now feeling a bit gloomy. Naruto hated seeing his new friend like this. He poked Sasuke in the stomach, Sasuke looked at him with surprise at first; then,he started to giggle. Soon he was rolling on the ground with Naruto on top of him throwing a series of tickles all over. He liked this Sasuke, the carefree boy who was laughing beneath him. And at that moment he once again swore to protect Sasuke like he would Kakashi. Sasuke got up and started running away from Naruto who was hot on his trail.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Kakashi, please tell me how you plan to take care of the boy. You’re usually gone on missions.” Kakashi looked up from his book and met the Hokage’s eyes. “For the time being, until school starts, I am requesting only D or C rank missions. I will make arrangements, and I will make sure that he is properly taken care of.” The Hokage nodded

“And one more thing Kakashi...” The silver haired jounin turned. “See what you can do in terms of adoption, just to make the matter legal. Just fill in the paper work and I’ll take care of finalizing it without the need for inspections. I trust you Kakashi, and I know you are more than capable of taking care of the child. You are dismissed.” Kakashi exited through the window. “Now why did I get a door if all of the ninja prefer to use the window.” He sighed and shook his head. “Naruto huh, I wonder what the boy can offer to our village.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sasuke bumped into Kakashi and landed on Naruto who was too busy chasing him to notice. “Ouch” Sasuke rubbed his head.

“So Sasuke where’s you brother at.”

“Oh hey Kakashi, my bro had to go to the training grounds. You know my dad…” He trailed off of his sentence. But Kakashi understood what he meant.

The Uchiha's were known for their harsh training methods in order to produce strong heirs to their clans. In Kakashi’s mind it was a bit too much.

“So Sasuke what did you plan to do for the day?”

He looked up in the air and had a finger on his head. “Hmmm. I guess nothing really since we’re still on vacation.”

“Would you like to come with me and Naruto to get his school supplies. I’m afraid I haven’t been to a pre-genin class in so long.”

Sasuke looked at him “I can tell, your hair is all gray, must have been a REAL long time ago.” Kakashi chuckled at that.

“My hair is not gray, it’s more like silver, and just to have you know, I am only 28.”

“Sorry Kakashi didn’t mean it as an offense, I was just messing with you. Besides you really don’t look old at all.”

Naruto quickly added “Yeah Kakashi…You’re my…” Naruto was trying to think of the right word. Then he smile “Role Model. When I grow up I’m gonna be just like you. And hopefully I’ll be just as cool too.”

Now Kakashi smiled at that, the boy thought he was…cool. It made him happy to see the boys sudden change in mood. It seems that he’s opening up a bit more. He turned to the other boy who was staring at Naruto and smiling.

“So Sasuke where should we start?”

“Well, I would start by getting the basics; you know like shuriken, kunai knives, and perhaps some wire to perform restraining jutsu. You also need the five scrolls we use for beginning courses; which is First edition of each subject, those being, Taijutsu, Genjutsu, Ninjutsu, Chakra Control, and Konoha History.”

“Lead the way Sasuke.”

Naruto spoke up again “Isn’t he great Kakashi, he’s my best friend…and the first friend I ever made.”

Sasuke stopped at this. “Why hasn’t anyone else been your friend?” “It’s because I never knew my father.” Naruto was afraid that at that moment Sasuke wouldn’t want to be his friend anymore.

“Well that’s stupid. It’s not like it was something you could control. Man, your village must have been full of jerks.”

He turned to his new blonde friend and said “It’s ok now, I promise I’ll be your friend okay. And if anyone messes with you, then they’re gonna have to deal with me.” Sasuke crossed his arms after saying this.

Naruto smiled brightly at that and hugged Sasuke. Sasuke was surprised at first, but then he hugged his new friend back. Kakashi raised an eyebrow at the scene before him, but he quickly dismissed it.

After three hours and two weeks of pay they were finally done shopping. “Oh um Kakashi, you might want to take Naruto to have his physical and blood test before school starts. It’s required for all new students.”

Kakashi was well aware of how informed this young boy was, he knew quite a lot for someone his age. This boy was clearly living up to the Uchiha clan expectations.

Sasuke shouted to Naruto who was watching a kid eating an ice cream cone. “ Hey Naruto, I gotta get going before my dad gets home. So I guess I’ll see you later.”

He thought for a moment before he hugged Naruto goodbye. “I’ll see you at school Naruto.”

“Alright Sasuke, and thanks again for being my friend.”

“You dork, don’t thank me for that, you're not forcing me, I like being your friend.” He smiled warmly at the blonde. With that said he quickly sprinted to the Uchiha manor.

Naruto was so happy, he truly felt close to the boy that just left. And he felt even more butterflies, no wait, now he felt eagles flying around his stomach. Kakashi had never smiled as much in that one day than he did in a whole year. But he smiled at the boys as they said they’re goodbyes. Kakashi thought to himself ‘this must be what it means to find someone who brings you happiness’.

“Alright Naruto let’s get going to the nurses office.” “Okay!” He was walking next to the jounin and then suddenly he held the man's hand. Kakashi looked down at their fingers interlocked and smiled inwardly. He held the boy's grasp tighter and led him through the crowd toward the hospital.

“Mr. Hatake, we would like to speak to you about something we found in your sons blood test.” The nurse noticed Kakashi look at her in panic.

“What’s wrong with my son?” He spat the word out before even thinking.

“Nothing really, but it seems that he has a blood line limit. He has the ability to tap into an immeasurable amount of chakra, also the boy possesses extremely quick healing abilities that are thought to be limited to people of the waterfall village. But at this point it seems he has not awakened his…traits yet.”

She looked at him questioningly “However this blood trait is not unique to one of our village clans, so I’m not certain of its name.”

Kakashi merely nodded and asked “So will he be able to attend school this year?” “Yes, he will, other than his special ability it seems you have a perfectly healthy child.” Kakashi smiled and took Naruto with him.

“Um Kakashi, I noticed when you were talking with the nurse you called me your son.” “Hmm. I guess I did. I’m sorry it was a quick reaction, and I was really worried.”

“It’s okay…Dad.”

Kakashi stopped mid pace and looked at the boy and smiled. “Thanks, my son.” Naruto had never called anyone by that name before. And he felt so happy to finally be able to do it. “Well son, let’s get you enrolled in school.” The newly formed father and son walked hand in hand towards the ninja academy. Both in high spirits, and unfamiliar feelings.
