Going Home
Man!!!!!!! I so hated writing this chapter. I really want to get on with the story but this part was neccessary so that everything made sense. Anyway, thanks for the positive reviews!! I will try to move this story on a little faster in future chapters and I promise I will make the chapters longer too. I hope you enjoy this chapter more than I did writing it.
(Sasuke’s POV)
Warmth. That was something I hadn’t felt in years, ever since I agreed to train under Orochimaru. I knew that if I allowed myself any kind of feeling during my time with that snake, I would break. The brutal training, the sick experimentation, and the mind games all tore at my soul. The only thing I could do to keep from going insane was to become numb. I really never wanted to train under Orochimaru, but what choice did I have? Yes I wanted power to avenge my clan and kill my brother but...there was also the fact of my friends and the village. I knew that if I didn’t go with Orochimaru, he would have either destroyed my village trying to get me or find a new vessel, a better one. It was a mixture of these that made me stay. Everyday I hoped that someone would save me. There were attempts to do the job, but every time I almost got away, Orochimaru would take hold of the curse seal, reminding me that I had no free will. I had almost killed Naruto on several occasions. The first time was the worst though. Fighting him in order to gain the ultimate sharingan had been a long and hard battle. When Naruto had finally passed out, I thought to myself, ‘Now you have him, you can finally avenge your clan with the true sharingan.’ I tried to kill him, I really did yet, I couldn’t. He was my best friend, the only person that could relate to me. He knew of loneliness, of hatred, of wanting to be normal. I think that’s what lead us into being rivals so quickly. We both saw ourselves in each other. We wanted so badly to be rid of our weaker selves to be able to achieve our dreams.
I wanted so badly just to bathe in the warmth that surrounded me. Unfortunately, my brain had it’s own agenda; it wanted to know where it was and what was going on. I soon realized that I was moving even though my legs weren’t planted on the ground. Confusion racked my brain as I tried to figure out what was going on. I then found that my head was resting against someone’s chest; a male’s chest since there was one component missing for this person to be female. This person was traveling at a fast pace, their breathing deep and their legs pushing off the ground hard. My eyes didn’t want to open, hoping to save the last bit of peace that was in my grasp.
Finally my brain forced my eyes to behold the stranger. They focused on the one person I though I would never see again, Naruto. I wanted to scream to the heavens in joy, but I knew that would not be the Uchiha way. Suddenly, the events that took place in the Sound came rushing back. Naruto arriving, the information about Orochimaru’s plan, searing pain, and the darkness that followed. I looked away from the blonde, him still not realizing I was awake. We were traveling in the forest, bounding from tree branch to tree branch. The horizon told me that it was early sunset, though that didn’t tell me how long I had been out. My eyes traveled back to Naruto. I tried to move my mouth to communicate to him but no words flowed out. Instead I just shifted my weight to get his attention. He swiftly looked straight into my eyes, causing me to flinch at the proximity of the blonde’s face to mine. Naruto stopped and placed me down on one of the tree branches.
“Sasuke, are you ok?” Naruto tried to hide the panic in his voice, though he failed miserably.
“Water...” I managed to whisper. His hands flew to the pack on his back and whipped out his canteen. He tried to help me drink it but I quickly snatched the water away and gulped it down.
“It’s nice to see that you’re the same greedy bastard I grew up with.” Naruto chuckled. I polished off his water and threw the container back at him, not caring if he wanted any. Now that I had that out of the way, questions started to flood my mind. Breathing in deeply, I sorted out every thing I wanted to know.
“What the hell happened, dobe?”
“You’re not even awake for five minutes and you’re going to start that again?” Naruto just shakes his head and sighs. “Well...Orochimaru came and I guess you passed out. I fought him and then we escaped. End of story.” Boy was he leaving out details. I didn’t know what he was hiding, but I was just glad I was out of that torture pit.
“Are you telling me that snake is dead?” I looked at him hard, hoping for a straight answer.
“Being dead was the least of his problems....” Naruto muttered. Again I felt like I came in on the punch line of the joke. “Anyways, the only important thing right now is getting back to the village and reporting to Tsunade baa-chan. Can you stand on your own?”
“Hn.” I shrugged and stood. I felt a little dizzy but the feeling passed quickly. Before he could even ask, I started to head in the direction of the village. I wanted nothing more than to sleep in a decent bed and start training again. Nothing was going to hold me back anymore, especially snakes.
-----------------------------------------------------------
(Naruto’s POV)
There was no way I was going to tell Sasuke about Kyuubi. I had just found my best friend, I didn’t want to loose him because I had to use a demon to save him. Keeping my mouth shut, I just followed Sasuke. He had been out for at least 24 hours, not even stirring when I leapt from tree to tree. I felt bad that I had to keep him in the dark, but it was the only way to keep him from freaking out.
Our pace was steady, I didn’t want to push Sasuke any more than I had to. We arrived at the village gates a couple hours after sundown. I was the first to emerge from the tree line, not wanting the guards to kill Sasuke on the spot.
“Open the gates, I have an appointment with Hokage-sama.” I announced, feeling weird that I had used obaa-chan’s formal title.
“Who are you and what is your rank?” The guard questioned, doing what he was supposed to do no matter who came to the gate.
“I am Uzumaki Naruto, rank Chuunin. I am also accompanied by Uchiha Sasuke, rank Gennin.” The last part was hard not to laugh at. After three years of training, Sasuke was nothing more than a Gennin. I could almost hear him growl at the mention of his low rank. I quickly returned my attention to the guard, now noticing the shock on his face at the mention of the Uchiha name.
“Right away sir!!” That was a first, being called sir was something I thought was never going to hear. I motioned for Sasuke to join me, proving further that I really did have the Uchiha. He calmly walked forward, he was in no rush to announce his presence to the village he abandoned three years prior. Sasuke turned his face to me and gave me a death glare.
“I bet you’re just dying of laughter at my rank. Just remember, the title is just a formality. I could probably still kick your ass with one arm tied behind my back.” I scoffed at the comment, knowing he was just trying to save what little pride he had left.
“Oh I think that sounds like a challenge Sasuke. I think after we deal with Tsunade baa-chan, we should go to the training ground and see which one of us is the better shinobi.” I got a smirk from him for that idea.
“You’re on dobe.”
-----------------------------------
“So you finally got him, eh Naruto?” Tsunade disheveled my hair at the comment, always treating me like a little brother.
“Yeah but it was a pain in the ass to get him out of there alive.” I sighed, remembering the fight with Orochimaru.
“Tell me everything that happened, leave out nothing.” I glance over at Sasuke, not wanting him to hear everything I had to tell Tsunade.
“We need some time to rest. I have been traveling non-stop for the past 48 hours and I can’t even keep my current thoughts straight, let alone trying to recall what happened two days ago.” This was the best excuse I could come up with. If it didn’t work, I was going to loose my best friend because of the stupid fox that lives inside of me.
‘Kit, I think you’re underestimating the Uchiha brat a bit.’ Kyuubi stated, not really interested in the current conversation with Tsunade.
‘I’m not taking my chances Kyuubi, I can’t loose him.’ Why was I explaining myself to him? I was going to do what I believed was right. I wasn’t about to listen to a being that almost destroyed Konoha.
“Fine brat. I expect to see you first thing in the morning.” Sasuke and I turn to leave but Tsunade has other plans. “Oh and by the way. Naruto, I want you to stay with Sasuke until we meet tomorrow. I need to make sure he stays put and that no harm comes to him as well.” We both stood still, shock plain on our faces. I was going to have to stay in the same house as the famous Uchiha. I had a feeling that this was going to lead to nothing but trouble.

Well...Was it crap or gold? Reviews really help, good or bad! I promise this is a sausnaru fanfic, it will just take a while for the two to realize what their feelings really are for each other. Well, until next time kiddies!!
