Chapter 2

The place of residence had been decided. The Uchiha mansion. Of course it was where Sasuke would be staying. His home. He hated the thought of staying in anywhere with Naruto and in fact, he hated this whole idea but he said not a word as he waited for Sakura to come back and announce she'd finished cleaning and stocking all but one room.

Naruto argued, pleaded and whined, asking to stay at his apartment but Sasuke adamantly refused and the Hokage went with his wishes. "Besides," she'd told him, "Sasuke's house is much more equipped to deal with babies then your apartment Naruto." He'd groaned in defeat and now was standing, amazingly quiet in the farthest corner from Sasuke and the 'little whiny things' as he'd so plainly put it the night before.

It was very early morning and most of Konoha was still sleeping. The Hokage grumbled about being woke up to deal with the situation at hand but she was needed to keep the ANBU busy and out of the situation. Of course, she'd sent them ALL on scouting missions, away from Konoha for a better part of the day. It might not have been the smartest thing on her part but at that early in the morning, with no sake and nothing to eat, it was the best she could come up with.

"Why did you come back?" Naruto was staring at the twins who were cooing and wiggling in the blankets they were wrapped. They twins were being held by one very annoyed Shikamaru and he didn't hesitate to say it was "too troublesome" because Aito was trying to pull his hair out of it's ponytail.

When Sasuke didn't answer him Naruto scoffed. "Figures. You leave, say it's ended and here you are asking for our help." He sounded angry, confused and more grown up than Sasuke would have pinned him at.

"Hn." Sasuke looked at him and then away placing his hands in the pockets of his pants. He wasn't asking for help. In fact he wouldn't have been surprised if they'd all have killed him on sight rather than heal his wounds and tell him he was welcomed back.

"Is that all you have to say teme?"

"That's enough Naruto." Tsunade looked at him, annoyance in her features and he looked away from Sasuke. The Hokage looked to Sasuke, "Sakura will show you the ins and outs of parenting." Sasuke grunted. "Don't start Uchiha brat because I am tired, without food and sake and I would rather rip you a new one than put up with your attitude." He said nothing but sent a glare of daggers at her. Tsunade glared right back. "No arguments." He looked away and to the floor.

"Ow. Ow. Ow." Everyone looked at Shikamaru who had his hair successfully pulled out by both babies and was having it pulled half way across the village by small hands. "Ow." Sasuke stifled a chuckle and walked over relieving the shinobi of the babies who started to fuss. Sasuke looked at them, "Shush." It was almost a whisper but it was smooth and soft. Aito was the first to look at him and then Hikime. Wanting to smile but deciding against it, Sasuke moved to lean against the nearest wall, eyes never leaving the babies in his arms.

It was only a few moments later when Sakura ran through the door, out of breath and with a blush on her face. "The mansion is cleaned and stocked as best as I could manage." Tsunade nodded and stood. "Mission commence. Don't be seen." All shinobi nodded and they departed for the Uchiha mansion. When they were all gone, the Hokage sighed and went back to her desk. "SHIZUNE!"

"Hai, Hokage-sama?"

"Get me some sake."

"Tsunade-sama, you have work to do-"

"Don't argue with me Shizune. Sake. Now." Shizune sent a cold glare at her leader but left to go and fetch some sake.

When the Uchiha mansion was safely reached, the first thing Sasuke did was walk inside and shut Naruto out. With a growl, Naruto waltzed in and shut the door behind himself. Ignoring the annoying blonde, Sasuke walked around and stopped in front a door, eyes looking at the floor. There was still a stain there. Nodding once, he walked passed the door and to his old room where once he was in, he set both girls on the bed, safely guarded by pillows so they couldn't wiggle onto the floor and looked around. Everything was as he'd left it only there was a small sheen of dust Sakura had missed, covering the few small trinkets he'd left.

Naruto, being loud and clumsy, announced his presence unwillingly by falling outside of the door. He didn't even bother knocking as he walked right into the room Sasuke had entered and left the door open. Neither of them said anything but Naruto's too blue eyes were drawn to a frame on a shelf. It was turned face down. Frowning, he walked over and went to turn it up but stopped as Sasuke spoke. "Do not touch anything." Naruto let his hand fall the few inches he'd raised it and stepped back.

"I don't want to be here as much as you don't want me here teme."

"I thought you wanted to prove me wrong dobe."

Naruto looked up. "About what?"

"Are you really that stupid?" Pouting, Naruto looked at him.

"No."

"Of course not." Sasuke finally looked at him. "Leave my room dobe."

"No way teme! If I have to be here with you then so be it. I will be and I will do my mission. Baa-chan didn't say I could exactly leave you alone." Losing himself for a moment, Naruto frowned obviously thinking of something he didn't want to and groaned. Shaking his head, Sasuke walked to the bed with the girls who were fighting sleep with all of their puny might.

"I'm tired dobe so if you don't mind, leave me alone."

"I'm not leaving teme."

"It's your choice." Sasuke really was tired and as much as he would like to get on his ex-teammates nerves, the need for a rejuvenating sleep won out. Curled next to the girls, Sasuke wrapped an arm around both of them, back to Naruto and closed his eyes. Too tired to care that he was having holes stared through his back, Sasuke drifted to sleep.

"I know better Nara."

"Hyuuga, your brain is as good as mine. It's a safe go." The cinnamon stick moving between his lips stopped as he pulled it to his back teeth.

"Nara, betting is beneath me." Shikamaru coughed.

"So you're telling me you didn't take the bet against Kakashi -and win- that he couldn't go without reading that book for one week?" Neji had the graciousness to blush a little. "Thought so." Removing the cinnamon stick from his mouth, Shikamaru leaned back on the roof and looked at the sky. It was still cloudy from the passing rainstorm and the clouds made interesting shapes. "Why not take my bet?"

"I will lose."

"So you would bet on Sasuke?" Neji looked away and then to the sky. "Actually, I would bet on Naruto."

"Ahh." Placing the stick of spice back in his mouth, Shikamaru laid back, hands behind his head and closed his eyes. He may have looked laid back but he was still on guard. He was after all, on watch duty.

"Tell me something Nara."

"Hmmm?"

"How many times did you beat Asuma at shoji?"

Shikamaru thought for a moment, recalling how many times he and his former sensei had actually played the game. It still hurt to think about Asuma but the constant screaming in a certain part of his family's forest let him know that he'd gotten his revenge. "Fifteen hundred and eighty six. He never won."

"Hn."

"Why?"

"No reason." With a grunt, Shikamaru moved the cinnamon stick around his mouth.

"So how about it?" Neji looked down at him.

"A week of C ranked missions and a dinner for Choji on Naruto."

"I'll meet you but I'll go for Sasuke." A short sigh passed through Neji's lips as he shook on the bet. "Here's to you Naruto."

He couldn't help it. They were squirming. Squinting slightly, Naruto looked at the two baby girls on the bed, still under Sasuke's arm. Quietly walking over but keeping his distance, Naruto looked at them. They were so...tiny. Tsunade said they weren't that old, maybe two weeks and Sasuke had just grunted. They moved around a lot and surprisingly, it never woke up his charge. A frown on his face, Naruto crossed his arms over his chest to keep from poking one of them to see if they were as squishy as they looked and looked to the sleeping form of his former teammate.

Would you quiet down?

Huh? Who is there?

You idiot little child, who do you think?

Oh. Kyuubi. What do you want?

Your thoughts are echoing. It's not only annoying but it's keeping me awake.

I don't care.

I want to sleep.

I don't care.

You insolent little human...

Hey, you live in ME, not the other way around Mr. Demon. Live with it.

Just wait Uzumaki Naruto; I WILL get my revenge... There was a growl in the back of his mind and Naruto visibly shivered. Sure he was used to Kyuubi since he found out that's who was sharing his body but they weren't on any better terms. The fox paid his rent for lodging and Naruto stayed alive. It was a win win except he had to share his body with a raging monster. Sighing to himself, Naruto stood up and went back to his corner.

Why do they look so...squishy?

Hmmm?

Those babies. Why do they look so squishy and fragile?

Because they are. Do you not know anything? Never mind, don't answer that.

And why do they look like him? Smell like him? Are they really his?

Is it that hard to comprehend Naruto? They have his eyes...and when they get older they will probably look much like him. He is their father.

But...he's only a year older than me. He can't have kids yet! Sasuke with kids? Who’d a thought?

Who would have thought you would live past your first birthday? There was a chuckle to go along with the words. Stop thinking so loud and leave me alone. I would like to go back to sleep and I can't very well do that with you thinking so much. I liked it much better when you were a brainless idiot.

I was never a brainless idiot but I sure acted like one. A smile curve Naruto's lips.

No Naruto, I know you better than you know yourself. You really are a brainless idiot but you have a little more common sense now. Good night.

Humph. The conversation ended and Naruto continued to stare at the wiggling forms of Aito and Hikime. "Why did he name you that?" Shrugging to himself, Naruto looked out the window. It was early afternoon and he was starting to get hungry. His stomach made a slow gurgling sound and he frowned, eyes closing. "Damn you teme. I'm hungry..."

"Then go eat and stop whining dobe." Naruto jumped and looked at the bed. Sasuke hadn't moved or even opened his eyes but he was fully awake. Why hadn't Naruto noticed?

"I'm not leaving teme."

"Suit yourself but be quiet. You're irritatingly loud."

"Humph." Naruto looked back at the window and crossed his arms over his chest. "They smell."

"Hn." Sasuke finally opened his eyes and sat up slowly. By the look of things it was early afternoon. He had gotten more sleep than he'd thought. A slight frown marring his features, Sasuke looked down to the twins who were wiggling and squirming around. They did smell. He supposed a bath and a diaper changing was in order. Moving to stand slowly, Sasuke bent over and scooped up Hikime. He looked to Naruto. "Would you get Aito?"

Naruto looked at him dumbstruck. "You want me to touch it?" Sasuke's eyebrow did an involuntary twitch.

"I want you to pick her up and carry her to the bathroom."

"No way teme!" He plugged his nose. "It smells and it wiggles. I am not touching it."

"Her name is Aito dobe and she is a baby. She won't kill you, unless you're afraid of a tiny, helpless baby?" His tone was mocking even as he bent to scoop up Aito. Naruto was there in a flash.

"I'm not afraid of something so...small." He took Aito gently, as he'd seen Sakura and even Sasuke do and gave his former teammate a defiant look and walked out. Apparently he didn't take a look at his surroundings, "You're going the wrong way dobe." Sasuke stepped out of the room and took a right, going the opposite way Naruto had gone.

"Right." Naruto looked down to the bundle in his arms and couldn't help but let his face soften. She was smiling at him. Aito's little hand came up and touched one of his whiskered cheeks, making Naruto smile. "I'm Naruto. It's nice to meet you Aito." Looking up, Naruto followed after Sasuke who'd stopped walking. "I'll beat you to the bathroom teme!"

"You don't know where it is."

"Yes I do!"

"Then by all means, lead the way." Naruto frowned.

"It's you're house, you lead the way."

"Hn." Sasuke moved passed Naruto and walked to the bathroom. When he stepped in, he handed Hikime to Naruto long enough to peel off his shit and took her back, stepping to the bathroom sink. It was big enough to wash the girls in but small enough that he needed to hold them to do it.

"What are you doing?"

"Giving them a bath."

"Why do you need to take off your shirt?" Sasuke didn't answer but instead shook his head as he turned the water on to a very luke warm and looked around for something gentle enough to wash the babies in. When his eyes settled on a small bottle of baby wash, he sighed internally. She really had thought of everything. Reaching over to the edge of the tub, Sasuke grabbed the conveniently placed bottle of baby wash and set it aside as he started to take off Hikime's clothes and smelly diaper. When all was said and removed, he put one of her feet in the sink and then the other. When she didn't start fussing, he started to wash her.

"How do you know what you are doing?"

"I watched the Hokage give them a bath yesterday."

"Oh." From that moment on, Naruto was silent and watched Sasuke clean and cloth both girls. It took a little while for it to be over but it was rather...funny to say the least, to watch Sasuke handle babies. Even though he didn't say anything about it, he sorely wanted to. Naruto thought better of it and kept his mouth closed. On any other occasion he would have said something but...there was a strange look in Sasuke's eyes as he handled the babies. He couldn't pin point it because Sasuke was guarded but it was there, even faintly.

When the twins were dressed, Sasuke held both of his daughters and walked out of the bathroom. "What are you doing now?" Sasuke stopped in mid stride and turned to Naruto.

"You complained you were hungry so I am taking you to the kitchen. I also have to feed them."

"I uh-"

"Shut up Naruto." Sasuke turned and started back towards the kitchen. Naruto would have complained but when he followed Sasuke he noticed something. A slight...limp? Looking closer Naruto nodded. It was a limp. He wondered why?

"Hey, teme, why do you-"

"Hello Naruto, Uchiha-san." Naruto stopped and looked around Sasuke to see Sakura sitting at the table with a cup in her hand. "I'm here for your check up Uchiha-san." Sasuke nodded and handed her both babies. "I need to feed them and put them to bed first."

"I will do that." Looking to Naruto, she smiled politely. "Come on Naruto, help me with this."

"Nani?" Her face became firmer.

"Come on Naruto. I need help." She handed him one of the girls and stalked over to the fridge to get out some premade bottles. "Please sit down Uchiha-san. I have some tea ready." Setting the bottle down she put some water in a small pot and put it on the stove heating. "Naruto, grab the other bottle out of the fridge and put it in this pot." He just nodded dumbly and did what she said. He wasn't about to argue with her. His head still hurt from the last time she'd hit him and he wasn't about to give her any excuse to do it again.

When both bottles were heating slowly, Sakura poured Sasuke some tea and handed it to him. He took no sugar and no milk. She sat down but did not look her former teammate in the eye. Instead she focused her attention on the baby in her arms. When she was sure the bottles were ready, she showed Naruto and Sasuke how to test them and what the right temperature should be. She then showed Naruto how to feed the twins and when he was sure he had it right, he told her to leave him alone. Amazingly, he got the hang of it pretty quickly and was even burping Aito.

"I will take them to the nursery," Naruto suggested. It was obvious even though he tried to hide it; he was attached to the 'tiny wiggling things'. Sakura nodded and told him where to go. He was off in a hurry and didn't hear her last instructions on how to put them to sleep. She quickly hurried after him and helped him put them down. She told him to stay with the twins, that she would be examining Sasuke and he would be in capable hands. He sighed and stayed, watching the girls struggle to stay awake.

Sakura slowly walked back to the kitchen. When she got there, her eyes still did not meet Sasuke's face but she stood next to him. "If you would like me to examine your wounds in the kitchen I will Uchiha-san but I think it would be better if it was done in private." He nodded and stood, heading back to his bedroom. He wasn't comfortable taking his clothes off in front of Sakura, hell, even the best medical nin herself but he supposed it was just another punishment on his long list that he had to take in stride. Peeling off his shirt first, he lay on the bed and put his arms behind his head. Sakura got to her knees, hair pulled up into a ponytail and started poking and prodding his wound.

"It was a crude way to get them out but it worked all the same."

"Hn." Sakura started using her chakra to heal the tissue damage and in half an hour the stitches were ready to come out. Snipping them lightly with chakra, she pulled them out apologizing when she made Sasuke wince. When she was done with his abdomen she stood and turned her back. "Please remove your pants Uchiha-san and turn over. When you are ready let me know."

Sasuke sighed and did as he was told albeit reluctantly. He supposed her being a medical nin shouldn't make it hard but she was a girl and she was his former teammate. He removed his pants and rolled over, making sure the front part of his anatomy was covered and he said he was ready. Sakura spread his legs gently and looked around at the stitches there. When she announced she was going to touch and heal, Sasuke sighed, hiding a slight blush and put his face in a pillow. He'd take it in stride.

When she was finished, she turned around again and let him get dressed. The Hokage had taken care of the Kunai wounds herself and kept him alive but she left the task of keeping Sasuke healthy and ticking to Sakura.

"Finished." Sakura turned around and stepped back from the bed. Sasuke moved away from her and out the door, she followed silently behind. When they were back in the kitchen, Sakura spoke up. "Would you please step outside with me Uchiha-san?"

"I thought I wasn't allowed outside?"

"There have been revisions in your sentence Uchiha-san. As long as you do not leave the grounds, go onto the roof or into any trees, you are allowed outside between sunrise and early evening." He nodded and followed her outside. He had a sneaking suspicion she was planning something. It was all too soon he found out.

Sasuke had landed a hundred or so feet away, face down in the mud. When he picked himself up, he looked back at Sakura, into her eyes. They were fiery green, almost glowing with so many emotions it was hard to distinguish between them but the one that stood out the most was anger. Before he was on his feet, he was up in the air, clutching his gut and looking down into Sakura's face. "I hate you Uchiha Sasuke, from the very bottom of my heart." She landed a right hook into his face and he fell to the side. He was surprised Naruto hadn't come running out yet.

"LET ME GO!"

"Shut up Naruto! Can't you see it?" Shikamaru said.

"See what?"

"She needs this Naruto."

"Huh?" He sighed and sat down, forcing Naruto to do the same since he was bound by the shadow jutsu. "Watch and listen Naruto." he grumbled but couldn't do anything but what Shikamaru said. He couldn't move so what else was there to do. They couldn't even hear him down there thanks to Neji.

Sasuke had taken to defending himself but the utter strength that Sakura possessed was hard for him to understand. How had she gotten so strong? Wasn't the Hokage the only one with super human strength? It hit him then. What if she was training with the Hokage? She would have the super human strength then. He knew he couldn't get hit by the full brunt of her kicks and punches or he would be finished so he dodged and moved around.

"How could you come back here Uchiha? How could you?"

"What are you rambling about Sakura?"

"Do not call me that. My name is Haruno-san. You have no right to use my first name."

"Fine, Hano-san. What are you talking about?" He dodged another blow, astounded by the way the earth rose around the damage her fist caused.

"You caused so much damage! You went to HIM! Do you know what you did?!" She was so angry that she wasn't holding her Chakra in check anymore. Sasuke kept her away from the house so she didn't knock it down. He would however, need to get someone to fix his yard if he made it out of this alive.

He didn't say anything so she continued. "He wouldn't speak for weeks! He didn't eat right and he was laid up in the hospital for days!" Her punching and kicking continued through the talking. "He chased after every lead he could to get to you and found nothing. NOTHING! You were the only person he looked up to! The only person he LOVED! You left him there for dead and for what?! So you could become stronger? So you could kill your brother?! YOU LEFT YOUR VILLAGE AND EVERYONE WHO CARED FOR YOU SIMPLY FOR REVENGE?!" She landed a kick to his ribs and he heard them crack. No one stepped in. Neji had looked away from the scene, all to aware of what was going on and not wanting to hear what he heard in her sleep every night.

"You nearly killed him! You DID kill him! He became a shell, a living breathing shell of nothing! Then, we finally find you and what do you do?! YOU TRY TO KILL HIM AGAIN! You say you were never his friend! YOU ABANDON HIM AGAIN! You abandoned me! I would have given my life to get you back home if not just to see him smile again! We just finally started to get him back to the way he used to be and you showed up! You were battered, bruised, bloody and you carried two children." The tears were coming like rivers and her moves were getting sluggish. She was using too much chakra too fast and she couldn't care.

"I wish you dead Uchiha Sasuke! DEAD! I don't want to ever have to look at your face or the hurt you put on Naruto again! He had no one and he trusted you, loved you, and befriended you even as a rival and you used him, abused him and left him. You NEVER cared did you? DID YOU?!"

Sasuke had stopped fighting. Her punches were nothing now and he let her hit him, beat him if she wished but he felt her pain, saw it in her eyes and her body. He knew what he'd done and he was so sure he didn't need them, any of the weak fools and now look, he was depending on them to keep him alive and keep the lives of his two beautiful baby girls in tact. The night he'd walked away from Naruto in the Valley of the End he lost a part of himself. The part that was even remotely human. When Aito and Hikime were born he'd gotten a small part back and now, he didn't know what to do.

When Sakura collapsed to her knees and sobbed into the mud in front of her, Sasuke did something he never did. He got onto his knees, wincing at the pain all over his body and comforted her. She pushed him away and slapped him twice. "Don't touch me you monster! You left him, me, us. You left us alone and you have no right to touch us, to speak to us or comfort us. You never cared before so there's no reason to start now." She stood and looked down at him. Wiping the tears off of her face, Sakura stepped back and spit in the face of her former teammate.

"You are nothing to me Uchiha Sasuke and if not for my loyalty to my Sensei and Hokage I would not even be here. If not for the blonde who lights up every moment of every day, I wouldn't be here. Unlike you who feels nothing, I care very much for Naruto and my village. I wouldn't leave him or this place simply to get revenge or power and I sure as hell wouldn't kill the only person one of my truest friends loves, but heed my words Uchiha, if you ever lay a hand on Naruto or anyone in this village you won't have the ANBU to deal with or even the Hokage. You will be dealing with Konoha's Fury and I will land the killing blow." She turned and walked away, not looking back. She did stop however and her parting words were, "If you never take advice or listen to anyone's words again hear this: Love and friendship are the two most powerful emotions on this earth and I have seen first hand what they can do. He is stronger than you will ever be simply because he puts his faith in those around him and he loves. You may know loneliness and you may be able to say you had a bad life but it will never begin to compare to what Naruto has been through and still goes through to this day. He will be Hokage some day Uchiha and I will see to that. Do not stand in my way. I will kill you." With that she poofed away.

In the distance he heard a sob. It was familiar and he looked to the roof of his home where he spotted Naruto. Blue eyes were closed and his face was buried in his hands. Sasuke could faintly hear him rambling something. When he realized what it was he looked away.

"Sakura-chan..." Naruto repeated her name over and over again, the sobs not stopping until Shikamaru walked him inside.
