Chapter Three: Meeting the Family
I gave blood today!! Or at least attempted. They got the needle in and I was fine and everything, but then they couldn’t get my blood to come out fast enough so this Korean nurse came over and was tapping my arm and then she just thrust the needle in farther! That hurt! I am fine with needles because I have a ton of pierces… but that just hurt. They didn’t even get a full bag so it’s pretty much worthless!!! Afterwards I got really sick because being the genius I am, I didn’t eat before I went in. Wasted everyone’s time. >,< Now I have a huge bruise on my arm. I don’t really feel like starting this chapter, but I might as well. Haven’t got anything better to do than maybe go to sleep. But it’s too early to go to bed.
Thanks for the reviews!!
So Chapter 3 it is!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
“Well I told you dear! I don’t know where your good driver went!” Mikoto exasperated, parking the golf cart in front of the house. She climbed out of it, and noticed her husband staring at something in the driveway. A huge smile crept across her face. “Oh! Sasuke’s car!! He’s home!” Mikoto followed Fugaku inside the house. Ami, one of her lady’s maids, was crossing the foyer. She stopped and bowed reverently when she saw the Uchihas.
“Ami-san, have you seen Sasuke today?” Fugaku asked kindly. The girl looked up.
“No sir, I saw his car but I haven’t seen him in the house at all.” She replied, bowing and excusing herself. Sasuke’s parents began walking towards their son’s bedroom, asking anyone they saw on the way if they had seen Sasuke or his new boyfriend. No one confirmed.
“I cant wait to see Sasuke’s new boyfriend!!” Mikoto squealed. Fugaku nodded.
“Personally, I think Sasuke has good… uh, judge of character.” He commented, trying to compliment his son’s taste in men without complimenting his son’s taste in men. He accepted Sasuke for who he was, but that didn’t mean it was any less awkward to talk about his son’s dating habits.
“Oh, of course he does! I cant wait to meet the new guy!” She repeated herself, for like the twentieth time that day. They reached Sasuke’s door and Mikoto pushed it open. They both stopped in the doorway at the sight. Sasuke was on his back, his arm around another man who had his head buried under Sasuke’s chin. Only a shock of sunny hair was visible along with a sun-kissed arm draped over Sasuke’s torso. It took everything Mikoto had in her to not scream in delight. They backed quietly out of the room and closed the door.
“Oh he’s blond and tan!!! That’s such a drastic change! That Hyuuga boy was just as pale and dark as any Uchiha!” Mikoto raved on and on, Fugaku listening and nodding here and there, only adding comments when Mikoto stopped talking.
“I’m sure he’s a great kid.” The Elder Uchiha replied. They went back downstairs to await the boys to wake up.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Sasuke was extremely warm, and it felt good. He hadn’t remembered putting any extra blankets on the bed, but it was definitely warmer than when he slept in it on visits. The blankets suddenly constricted tighter, making him feel secure. That is until he felt lips on his neck. His eyes popped open and realized he was being held tightly by Naruto. The blond had a blissful look on his face, despite still being asleep. He had been resting his head in the crook of Sasuke’s neck, lips gently caressing the sensitive skin there. Sasuke blushed, feeling his body get hotter. He tried pushing away from Naruto’s warm body, but the blond only held him tighter.
“Mmmm…” Sleepy Naruto moaned, squeezing Sasuke’s midsection. Sasuke put his hands on either of Naruto’s shoulder’s and tried to pry his body away.
“Naruto!! You bum, get up!!” He grunted, still pushing at Naruto. The blond let loose and his eyes opened sleepily. Sasuke pushed away from Naruto and crawled out of the bed. He looked in the mirror and tried to straighten out his bed head. Naruto grinned when he realized what had happened.
“Sorry about that. I usually end up squeezing my pillows to death when I’m sleeping. Sure glad you hold up a little better.” He yawned and stretched. Sasuke stared at him from the mirror, but averted his gaze when Naruto noticed.
“It’s ok.” Sasuke said, taking a brush off of the dresser, trying to fix his hair. “I suspect my parents will want to meet you now.” Naruto got up and straightened himself out as well. Sasuke led the way downstairs. They checked the kitchen first, only the same chefs and such preparing dinner. They went to the drawing room next. Fugaku, Mikoto, and Itachi were all sipping cups of tea when they entered. They all looked the same to Naruto. Polished, sophisticated. Sasuke looked exactly like his mother. He inherited her softer features, while Itachi looked more like their dad. The three stopped chatting and looked up. An awkward silence overtook the room and Naruto shifted nervously from foot to foot. They all just stared.
“Uh, family, this is Uzumaki Naruto. He’s my boyfriend. And Naruto, this is my family.” He nodded to each and said their name. Naruto smiled.
“It’s nice to meet all of you.” He tried to keep the shakiness out of his voice. They all stared at him a while, then Itachi rose and stood in front of Naruto.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you!” He put his arms around Naruto and hugged him as he would his own brother. “Great to have you here.” Naruto grinned, glad that someone broke the awkward silence. Fugaku rose as well and shook Naruto’s hand, clapping him on the back. Mikoto got up and smiled sweetly, nodding her head.
“It’s nice to have you here, Naruto. Well, I better go make sure everything is going fine with dinner.” She excused herself and left the room. Fugaku followed her.
“Mikoto?” He asked, stopping her in the hallway, where they were well out of hearing range. “What’s wrong?” Mikoto turned on her heel, tears in her eyes.
“Do you have any idea who that boy is?!” She gasped, whispering loudly. Fugaku nodded.
“Yes I do.” He replied simply. His wife’s eyes grew wide.
“And?” She asked expectantly. “He’s with our son! He’s going to hurt our son again!”
“You don’t know that. Sasuke seems happy with him. Who are we to judge his happiness?” Fugaku put his hands on Mikoto’s and held them.
“But the first time nearly killed him!” She exclaimed, her voice raising slightly. Fugaku looked back towards the door.
“Sasuke’s a big boy now, Mikoto. He can take care of himself.” He led his wife away from the hallway and out onto the patio to calm down. He had to admit that seeing Naruto there was extremely coincidental. But he harbored no bitter feelings towards the blond. The accident had been exactly that, an accident. Although he didn’t know the whole story behind it, he was sure that the boy hadn’t meant to hurt anyone. Therefore if he made Sasuke happy, he would not interfere in their relationship or allow his wife to do so either.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
“So Naruto, you work at a coffee shop?” Itachi asked. The blond nodded, glad that Itachi appeared to approve of him. He was a little worried about Mikoto’s reaction. He was sure she couldn’t have remembered him from high school. He had never seen her back then so he figured she had never seen him. Maybe she was just thinking about something else. Fugaku didn’t seem to mind him either, so hopefully it wasn’t that she just didn’t like him already.
“Yeah, Sasuke’s been going there ever since I’ve been working there. Turkey sandwich, lettuce, tomato and a black Arabian.” Naruto replied lightheartedly. Sasuke grunted.
“Well that certainly sounds like him. Sasuke has always been something of a health maniac.” The long-haired man replied.
“Do we have to talk about me?” Sasuke groaned. Itachi grinned evilly.
“But little brother, there are so many things I could tell Naruto about you!” Itachi turned to Naruto again. “Did you know that Sasuke was once in a beauty pageant?”
“You’re kidding me!” Naruto exasperated, although it wasn’t that hard to believe. Sasuke was gorgeous.
“Oh no. Won first place and everything.”
“It was not a beauty pageant. It was Little Mister Konoha. Geez you make it sound too girly!” Sasuke retorted, trying to save his dignity.
“Oh don’t be so modest Sasuke!” Itachi chuckled. Sasuke rolled his eyes and looked away. Naruto found it easy to talk to Sasuke’s brother. He was indeed polished and sophisticated, but he was also very friendly and amiable. He wasn’t sure what to expect going on, but he’s glad that thus far everything was going well. Itachi then excused himself. He wanted to go make sure Hinata was alright. When he went to take a nap she wanted to go down to the koi pond and read. Naruto and Sasuke were left alone in the drawing room.
“Your mother didn’t seem to like me.” Naruto said in a defeated manner. Sasuke eyed him closely.
“Her mind was probably preoccupied. She tends to get like this in the midst of party planning.” Sasuke replied nonchalantly. As far as he was concerned, it didn’t matter if his parents approved of Naruto or not. This was all false and they wouldn’t have to see him past the weekend. But he knew it was important to Naruto, why he could not tell. He just hoped Naruto wasn’t getting too attached.
“Yeah, I guess so.” The blond sighed. Sasuke got up.
“Dinner must be just about done.” He said, glancing at his watch. “Let’s go check it out.” The two walked to the dining room. Itachi and Hinata were already sitting there, across from each other. Fugaku was at the head of the long table and Mikoto was at his left. Across from Mikoto was a woman Naruto had yet to meet. Sasuke went over to her and hugged her.
“Naruto this is my aunt, Uchiha Sotara.” The black-haired woman put her hands on Sasuke’s arms. She looked over at Naruto. She had the same pale Uchiha skin and coal-colored eyes, except she was smiling and had crow’s feet around her eyes. She looked very nice.
“Oh, so this is the new beau. Well, well, well Sasuke! He is quite attractive!!!” She looked up and down Naruto, sizing him up. “Such a nice complexion! And beautiful blond hair!! Tell me son, does the carpet match the curtains?” Naruto blushed a deep crimson and Fugaku coughed on the wine he was drinking. Mikoto stared at her sister wide-eyed. Sasuke let go and sat next to Itachi, Naruto sat across from him next to Hinata. He introduced himself to the shy girl and they started chatting idly. Sasuke turned to Itachi.
“So, what do you think of Naruto?” He whispered. Servers began brining out covered dishes. Itachi turned to eye Sasuke.
“I think he’s positively charming. And attractive. Does the carpet match the curtains?” He grinned down at the blush his little brother gave.
“How should I- yes as a matter of fact they do!” He replied, even quieter. Itachi sighed and looked pensively at his water glass.
“He seems very familiar though, don’t you agree?” He inquired, watching Sasuke’s face in his peripheral vision.
“No. What do you mean?” His brows knit together. Itachi smiled and waved his hand.
“Oh nothing!” He looked down as a server set a covered bowl of salad before him. The same was done to everyone else sitting at the table. They began eating, several different conversations were taking place around the table. Naruto saw Sasuke still talking to Itachi so he engaged Hinata in conversation. He asked her more about the relationship Sasuke had with Neji.
“It was my idea to introduce them.” She began, keeping her already small voice hushed. “I thought that they would have a lot in common and enjoy each other’s company. Neji told me everything was fine at first, but then Sasuke grew distant towards him. He said Sasuke only wanted him around to,” She blushed prettily, “keep him satisfied, if you know what I mean.” Naruto nodded. He understood the feeling of being lonely and wanting physical comfort, but not wanting to be in a real relationship. With Sasuke though, he felt different. He wanted everything Sasuke had to offer and was willing to give Sasuke everything he had.
“So who broke up with who?” Naruto asked, glancing over at Sasuke. The raven was still chatting with Itachi in between bites of his salad. Naruto took a few bites of his, listening to Hinata.
“Sasuke broke up with Neji. I guess one night, after they…” She cleared her throat, “Neji asked Sasuke if he liked him at all. Apparently Sasuke threw his clothes at him and told him to get out.” Naruto looked at Sasuke again. He knew the raven was a little emotionally impaired, so the story was probably true. So far Sasuke hadn’t ever treated him that badly. Of course they had never been intimate together either. Naruto sighed.
“You really love him don’t you?” Hinata asked. She was looking right at Naruto. The blond blushed and smiled but nodded.
“Yeah, I do. It’s just that… he doesn’t feel the same way about me.” Naruto admitted, hoping that it was ok to talk to the girl about it. She looked sympathetic.
“No, he does. He just may not show it like you would expect him to. Trust me when I say that Uchiha’s have very odd ways of showing affection.” She took an elegant sip of her wine. “I haven’t ever seen Sasuke so happy.” Naruto looked over as Sasuke cracked a sexy smirk at something Itachi said. He wanted so badly for Sasuke to love him. He was willing to work on it though.
The main course came out from the kitchen and Sasuke turned his attention back to Naruto. He had been sneaking peeks at Naruto through the first course. He seemed to be talking so naturally with Hinata. It would never admit, though, that it made him jealous. He had seen Naruto interact with the female workers at the coffeehouse. He always seemed in his element. He knew feeling jealous would only lead to other, deeper, emotions, therefore he put it aside and reminded himself that he only brought Naruto to assuage his mother.
“So, Naruto, you went to Konoha High?” Mikoto asked suddenly. Naruto looked up, picking at the lamb and rice on his plate.
“Yeah, I did.” He answered. She smiled at him.
“Then you and Sasuke must remember each other, hm?” She took a sip from her glass. Naruto looked at Sasuke nervously, then looked back at his mother.
“Well, no not really. It’s possible we had classes together, but you know we went to high school with so many other people whom I never knew their names.” He responded, keeping his cool.
“But surely you heard about Sasuke’s accident?” She asked, looking completely innocent. Naruto started to panic. Shit! She has to know it was me!! What the hell am I supposed to do?! Ok, ok calm down!!
“Oooh! Yeah I remember that! It was kept kind of quiet back then though. I guess the family didn’t want people upsetting Sasuke afterwards. I know I wouldn’t.” He smiled at Sasuke, a real loving smile. Fugaku gave his wife a discreet stern look. She rose an elegant eyebrow and turned her attention back to her plate.
“Yes, we did try to keep the entire town from bothering Sasuke.” Her husband replied. Naruto sighed on the inside. That could’ve gone better, but it also could’ve been worse. “He had such a hard time remembering all his schoolwork afterwards that he didn’t need the stress of a ton of people asking him if he was all right.”
Sasuke looked at his father, then his mother, and finally at Naruto. He felt a little sad that they all knew what had happened but he didn’t. Naruto sensed this sadness in Sasuke. He saw through the fake smirk Sasuke put on. Something was bothering Sasuke and he would find out what it was before the night was through.
After dinner, the family went into the theater in the basement to watch a movie. It was some old romance movie; Mikoto had decided upon it. There were many spacious couches and cushions on the floor so there was plenty of room for the whole family and their guests. Sasuke sat down beside Naruto, who was laying on his stomach on one of the cushions. He looked up lovingly at Sasuke, who seemed to have missed the look. The movie commenced and everyone silently watched it, making comments here and there about one of the characters or something they did. Almost an hour into it, Sasuke laid down beside Naruto, who scooted over to share his cushion. The movie was undeniably boring for the youngest Uchiha, and he soon found himself drifting to sleep. Naruto noticed this and grinned, putting his arm over Sasuke’s back, holding him close. In his sleep, Sasuke nestled against Naruto, seeking his warmth. Itachi nudged Hinata and nodded towards the two snugglers on the floor. Hinata smiled warmly and held her husband’s hand. Sasuke buried his nose in the crook of Naruto’s neck, deeply inhaling his scent. Of course he was still slightly unconscious. His lips gently grazed the soft flesh there. Goosebumps crawled up and down Naruto’s spine. He sighed contentedly and held Sasuke tighter to his body.
After the movie everyone dispersed to their proper rooms. Naruto picked Sasuke up, bridal style and carried him to his room. He laid Sasuke down and went back downstairs for a glass of water. He thought everyone else had gone to bed, but was surprised (which he voiced by yelling upon seeing a shadow moving behind him in the kitchen), to find Sasuke’s mother dressed in an elaborate night robe.
“Uchiha-san! You scared me!” Naruto laughed, sitting down at the chef’s table. Mikoto’s long black hair was down, framing her beautiful porcelain doll’s face. She looked angry, her delicate face screwed up in consternation. “Ma’am? Is something wrong?”
“Don’t play games with me! Accident or not, I know it was you who ran my son down!” She spat, venom practically dripping from each word. Naruto looked down, averting her gaze.
“I can understand why you’d be upset with me.” He admitted. She pounded her fist on the table, which made him jump.
“You cant imagine how upset I was to see Sasuke’s world fall apart after the accident” She sat down and put a hand to her mouth, trying not to cry. “He couldn’t eat or sleep. He was so upset about his schoolwork. He resorted to cutting his wrists!! You cant imagine what its like for a mother to see her son fall so far!” Naruto felt truly guilty. He watched Mikoto, he watched her tears fall. She wasn’t a bad person, she just loved her son.
“Uchiha-san, I am so sorry. I know I hurt your son. But now I have a chance to make him happy.” Naruto looked straight into the woman’s eyes. “I love your son. I am completely in love with him!” She looked at him and then smiled.
“You are, aren’t you?” She felt a little better about the man her son was dating. “I can tell.” He nodded and smiled sadly.
“Sometimes… it seems that he doesn’t… feel the same way about me.” Naruto looked down. He wished so badly that Sasuke would love him. Mikoto took Naruto’s hands in hers.
“Sasuke is a complicated person. He’s been through so much and he needs someone to love him. Don’t worry, he’s happier than I have ever seen him! Please don’t give up on him.” She pleaded, slightly squeezing Naruto’s hands. He gave her a warm smile.
“I never intended to.” He stood and bade her goodnight. On the way back up to Sasuke’s old room, the guilt hit him again. Sasuke’s mother accepted him, but it was all a lie. He felt bad for deceiving the woman. She only wanted what was best for Sasuke. When he got to the door he slowly opened it. Sasuke wasn’t on the bed where he had left him. Naruto checked the bathroom. The raven-haired man had gotten into some dark blue, silk pajamas and was brushing his teeth. Naruto took the opportunity to change into his sleep clothes while Sasuke’s back was turned. When Sasuke was done he sat on the bed and stared at Naruto.
“Where were you?” He rose an eyebrow. Naruto shrugged and laid back on the bed, putting his hands behind his head.
“Talking to your mom.” He replied simply. Sasuke sat Indian-style on the bed, looking at Naruto.
“What about?” He watched as Naruto stretched and yawned.
“I guess she likes me!” He said, making a V for Victory with his fingers. Sasuke rolled his eyes and laid down.
“She pretty much likes everyone.” He rolled over, turning his back to Naruto.
“From what I hear she didn’t like Neji.” The blond looked over at Sasuke. He had turned away, but looked over his shoulder at Naruto.
“That was an exception. Go to sleep.” He pulled the covers up around himself and Naruto. The blond smiled.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
He was looking down at the scene. He finally saw. Why now? It was laid out before him, everything black and white. A gray car. His body laying in the middle of the parking lot. There was blood pooling from his head. He tried screaming but no sound came out. Grasping his own throat, he opened his mouth again. He tried to scream for help.
“HELP! Someone help!” It wasn’t his voice. He looked to the left. One of those people he never talked to was at his side. No, more than one. There were many people now. Only, they had no faces. He watched horrified as someone called an ambulance. The person in the car that had hit him was sobbing.
“I didn’t see him! He came out of nowhere!!!” The voice sounded familiar. The sirens were getting louder. They strapped his lifeless body to a gurney and slid him into the ambulance.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Everything was white now. The sterile stench made him sick to his stomach. He felt like he was going to throw up. He saw three people hovering over a mangled body. They all had dark hair and pale skin. They all had no faces. What is going on?! Walking up beside the three people, he noticed the body lying on the hospital bed. The dark hair was matted with blood and he had several cuts on his face. His left arm was bandaged up. He stared in horror as the doctor shook his head.
“No!! He’s not dead!!” He tried to scream. “I’m not dead!!” The doctor reached a hand up to the machines wired on the body. He pulled one out. Then a second. Finally he put his hand on the last one.
“NOOOOO!!!” He sat straight up in bed. Strong arms tried to hold him. He kicked and punched whatever it was. “Noo! I’m not dead!” He sobbed. The arms grew tighter.
“Sssh! Sasuke! It was a dream!” The arms and legs stopped flailing around him. He was sobbing harder, vicious coughs racking his chest. “Calm down. I’m here.” Sasuke leaned into the warm chest, holding tightly onto the shirt he was crying into.
“No one would listen. I’m not dead!” He cried. Every breath was choking him. Naruto held him close and ran his fingers through soft hair.
“It was only a dream, Sasuke. I know you’re alive!” He whispered. Sasuke began calming down. His breathing became more even and he wasn’t crying quite so hard.
“I could see everything, but couldn’t do anything about it.”
“It was only a bad dream. I’m here Sasuke. I wont let it happen again.” Naruto said.
“I think I’m going to vomit.” Sasuke suddenly put his hand over his mouth and ran to the bathroom. The door was slammed behind him. Naruto waited patiently as Sasuke retched in the bathroom. A moment later he came out, glass of water in hand. He sat on the bed and drank it down.
“You ok?” Naruto asked, concerned for his friend. Sasuke nodded.
“I used to have dreams like that all the time.” He took another drink of water. “Except I couldn’t see anything. This time I could see but no one had faces.” Naruto sat there quietly and listened. Sasuke put the glass on the nightstand and looked over at Naruto.
“Hold me?” He asked. Naruto nodded and took Sasuke in his arms. They laid down together, Naruto keeping a tight grasp on the shaking raven. He felt Sasuke’s body relax. It made sleeping easier, nestled close to the beautiful man in his arms.

This chapter made me angry. I dont even know why either. It's longer than the last one, so I guess that makes up for it's suckiness. I partially proof-read it so there are probably still a bunch of typos. I'll edit later.
Well so far all that I've revealed about the "accident" is all that Sasuke knows. Next chapter, Naruto confronts Sasuke about it and tells him the truth. What really happened. Should be good.
Next Chapter: What Really Happened.
