The Promise

A/N: Blech! Here's another super-duper crap-tastic chapter! Yay for violence and childbirth (preferrably not at the same time...)*does rather demented Gai pose*

I'm only doing this when I'm boared and writers-blocked up and need to get dark thoughts out of my head, so it's like...my waistbasket, or something....

Please tell me where my writing can improve!

Just remeber, just about everything I write is meant with a (sometimes twisted) sence of humor!

ratings and reviews make me happy?

Chaos immediately ensued. Iruka bypassed the teachers, running out the door.

“Umino-san, where are you going!” Yokoi-sensei called after him, but he was gone. Murasaki looked around.

“All right, everyone, follow me!” Yokoi said, putting his hands on his hips.

There was another explosion and part of the ceiling began to crumble.

“Stay calm! Follow me…” He bellowed above the screaming din, leading them out of the Academy and up a steep set of stairs. May of the children were screaming and crying as they watched as part of the village was reduced to rubble. Murasaki paused, letting the other kids pass her as she doubled back. Gai grabbed her by the arm. “What are you doing?”

“I need to make sure everyone’s okay!”

“Let the jounnin do it!” He said. Murasaki wrenched her arm out of his grasp.

“I’ll be back, okay…”

She ran down the stairs and out into the dusty sunlight, almost colliding smack into a cocky, young, silver haired jounnin.

“Hatake-san!” She said, blushing deeply.

“What are you doing out here? You should be inside!” He said. His headband was pulled up, and to Murasaki’s horror, Obito’s sharingan eye had been implanted in his left eye socket. Murasaki’s heart beat wildly as a piece of debris swept up by one of the tails came flying in their direction, destroying the lower half of the stairs. Kakashi hissed, ducking and pulling Murasaki to cover.

“You’re an idiot!” He hissed.

“My friend is still out there! Umino Iruka!”

“His parents are fighting the nine tails…” Kakashi said, dragging her towards the hokage building. The ground shook as they entered. The doors were broken and one was hanging off it’s hinges.

Murasaki could sense the kyuubi’s hateful chakra vibrating through the walls. It made the hair on the back of her neck stand on-end. He led her to Minato’s office, which was full of ANBU. Kushina was sitting in a chair, looking pale and drawn, a large wet spot on the front of her dress. She was breathing slowly and deeply.

“Stay here.” Kakashi barked. “Keep an eye on Kushina-sama…”

He conferred briefly with Minato, who was desperately searching through scrolls on his desk. Jiraiya came in moments later with an older man in tow, just as Kakashi was leaving.

He stopped when he saw Murasaki.

“What are you doing here? Why aren’t you in the caves?”

Murasaki stuttered, struggling to reply. Just then, a buxom blonde burst in.

“I came as soon as I heard…”

“Tsunade…”

“Dammit!” Minato swore, slamming his hands down on the desk and shaking his blond hair. “I can’t let that cursed thing tear up the village! I’m going out there!” He said, grabbing his white jacket.

“No, Koibito!” Kushina said, struggling to stand. “I…I can’t let you…Our son…is…coming…” She gasped, clutching her stomach. Minato put his arms around his wife, pulling her close.

“Kushina, I love you, but I have a duty to the village…I swore to protect it.”

Kushina nodded, kissing him. “Be back before Naruto comes…” She said, watching her husband leave. At the last minute, Minato turned and signaled to the two sannin and the older man to come with him.

Kushina sighed, sitting weakly in the chair, looking pale and drawn.

“Murasaki-dono…could you…could you get me a glass of water?” She asked weakly. Murasaki nodded and poured one from a pitcher on Minato’s desk. “Sweetheart, could you do me a favor?”

“Sure…what is it?”

“Could you go see what they’re saying…I…I’m afraid my husband…” She whispered, rubbing her lower stomach. Murasaki nodded and went over to the door, standing quietly on the other side of the doorjamb. Several of the ANBU that were passing through eyed her wearily as she struggled to listen to what the three were saying.

“…once he’s born, bring him to me…sealing the kyuubi requires a human sacrifice…”

“You can’t! What are you thinking?” the older man said, anger evident in his voice.

“I know what I’m doing…” Minato said with a forced even tone. “Don’t tell Kushina…”

Murasaki swallowed hard, looking over at Kushina, who looked so unusually frail. Inside Murasaki’s heart, a moral fight was raging. Should she tell her what Minato was planning?

But it seemed so unlike him…

She looked down at her feet, wriggling her toes nervously. Her mind raced to Iruka who was still at large, and her other classmates that had made it into the caves, then to Kakashi, who was out there fighting the kyuubi…with Obito’s eye…

She looked back up at Kushina, shaking herself mentally. She couldn’t tell Kushina…She slowly crossed the room.

“Did you hear anything?”

Murasaki shook her head. Kushina smiled. “You know, when I have this baby…” She gasped. “I’ll expect you to treat him like a little brother…Keep an eye on him, keep him out of trouble…promise?” She said with a soft smile as another kyuubi attack shook the building.

“I promise…” Muraskai said softly, tilting her head. Something was wrong with Kushina…
