Chapter 3
He finished fastening her sandal and helped her up. He wasn't used to seeing her like this, weak, vulnerable and...broken. It was strange. It creeped him out a little.
Sakura gave him an injury rundown when he arrived at the hospital. Cracked pelvis. Tsch. Sakura had made a huge deal about that injury.
He put his arm around her so he could help her walk. He loved her hair loose. He ran his fingers through her dirty blond hair. God, he had missed her. Forty-seven days, that's how long it had been since he'd last seen her.
He knew her brothers were not thrilled about her leaving Sunagakure. Thank god for Naruto, that's who convinced Gaara in the end. He yawned. Of course there were a few people in Konoha who thought Temari was a spy. He knew better.
She'd risked her life to save him. That's all it took. Later when he told his dad how she'd saved his life, his dad told him that was the girl he would marry. He had laughed at his dad back then. The old man was pretty sharp still.

Hmmm, here comes Tsunade and dad, he thought.
"Temari, Shikamaru, how's everything? I've got good news Temari. First, you may go home today. Second, Gaara has news and will be here in two days. Shikamaru, you have an extra week off to help Temari adjust." Tsunade smiled at them, "I'm sure I don't have to remind you two to take it easy."
His dad laughed and he could have sworn Temari was blushing. This was gonna be a pain.
"Gaara's going to come here? Why?"
"I don't know, Temari, all the message said was to expect him in two days."
"It's not like him to leave the village." Hmmm
"Maybe he knows what happened to you." They all turned to look at Shikaku. "You never know. From what I've been told Lord Kazekage can be very intimidating."
"You have no idea."
She knew exactly how 'intimidating' he could really be.
