We All Have Our Secrets...
The next morning, the two showered and dressed without saying much. Last night’s events were too much to process aloud. Lee was the one who avoided Gai’s eye contact and practically ran out of the room any time Gai tried to say a word.
Finally, Gai grabbed Lee’s arm. “Look at me,” he said sharply. “Why are you acting like this?”
Lee still could not bring himself to look at Gai.
“Lee, please, just look at me,” Lee looked up slowly to see the tear-shined eyes of the older jounin. “I know what you’re doing. Please just stop. I care about you too much for you to walk around like you don’t deserve to be happy.”
Lee tried to step back in shock but Gai’s grip was unrelenting. “Gai-”
“No, Lee, this wasn’t just some stupid one night stand and we both know it so stop acting like I would ever do that to you.”
Stopping his struggle, Lee stood shocked before Gai. He was exactly right. Lee’s morning had been filled with self-deprecating thoughts. He was so mad at himself for doing what he had done. All he could think was that there was no way to go back now that Gai had seen him behave in such a way. He had even contemplated leaving the village, although he knew that was a bit drastic.
“Please just talk to me.”
Lee felt his knees give out underneath him. He began crying heavily as Gai let go of his arm and instead dropped down next to him and waited for an explanation.
“Gai, I have loved you for such a long time. I just feel so mad at myself for-” Gai embraced Lee deeply stifling any further negative thoughts.
“Lee, last night was so magical, and do you know why?” he asked leaning back to look into Lee’s eyes. “Because we both love each other so much. You are the most important person in my life. I told you nearly seven years ago that if you died, so would I because that was my nindo, and even now, I still mean those words. That is love.”
Lee embraced him back never wanting to let go.
“Come on. We need to get going,” Gai said as he stood up with his hand extended to assist Lee.
“What? We’re already a day ahead of time.”
“Come on, Lee,” teased Gai. “You of all people should know that it is out of nature for us to be any less that TWO days ahead of time.”
“Point well taken,” wiping his tears, Lee stood and began finishing gathering his things.
“Please don’t take this the wrong way, but maybe we shouldn’t tell anyone about, ya know, us because I don’t really want to deal with it all,” Gai uncertainly said.
Both began walking towards the exit to return to the village.
“I understand.”

“WHAT?” shouted Sakura.
“Shut up!” hissed Lee snapping his hand over Sakura’s mouth. “I am telling you because I know that you will not tell anyone. Do not make a liar of me, Sakura-chan!”
Chuckling behind his hand, “Lee, I just totally didn’t see that coming.”
“Yeah, me neither.”
He removed his hand from her now smiling face, and proceeded to tell her all the details- his confusion, his passion, everything.
“Can I tell you a secret, too?” asked Sakura.
“Of course, Sakura-chan.”

“Gai, you can’t be serious.”
“No, my eternal rival, I am.”
“Why?”
Gai looked up from his plate of leafy green vegetables to meet Kakashi’s one exposed eye, “Why what?”
“Why Lee?”
Gai shrugged, “I don’t know. I mean, are you really that shocked?”
Kakashi contemplated before clicking his tongue in decision. “Now that I think about it… I guess not.”
“Yeah, same here.”
The two sat in silence in Kakashi’s dirty apartment. Kakashi stood, “Do you want some more water?”
“No, thanks.”
“Was he your first since me?” he quickly added.
Gai choked on his mouthful of greens. “What? Why would you ask me that?”
“I’m only asking because I know how you get about these things… I just didn’t-“
“Yes, okay, yes, he’s the only person I’ve been with since you.”
“Hmmm,” Kakashi contemplated. “You’re in love with him, aren’t you?”
“Kakashi, you really can’t tell anyone…”
“Of course, but can you keep a secret of mine?”
