Chapter 4
Of Spells and Ninjutsu Ch. 3
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mrs. Weasley looked around the dim interior of the Leaky Cauldron and looked over the people to find those she knew. Some of the regulars weren’t there for whatever reason and most people were silently nursing their drinks, if they had one. It saddened her really; usually this place was so full of life. She quickly counted heads to make sure that all her young charges were present and accounted for and nodded. The sooner they were in Diagon Alley the better. "Come on everyone! There's no time to lose! Your supplies for school won’t buy themselves!" With more cheer than she felt, Molly shepherded her flock of youngsters to the back where the secret entrance was.
Naruto walked into the small space and found himself almost squished against the wall where the bricks were broken. How the hell were they suppose to keep moving? Naruto looked at Sasuke and flexed his fingers, he felt so stupid just standing there. "Sasuke, this isn’t an alley, but I can make it one with the Rasengan! Just give me a sec..."
Sasuke's eyes widened for a fraction of a second before he grabbed Naruto's wrist, stopping him from doing the wind Ninjutsu. "Not the time or the place you moron." he growled harshly into the blonde's ear.
Ginny looked curiously over at the two new students and couldn't help but wonder what they were talking about. It looked like the blond boy, Naruto, was about to do some kind of magic.
"But the wall’s in the way. What are we suppose to do, climb it?” The orange clad ninja pulled his arm out of Sasuke’s grasp and glared at the wall like it was the cause for his pain while the plump Weasley woman made her way to the form of the miniature crowd. She probably knew how to get to the diagonal place.
"Now everyone has their lists correct? I don’t expect that we'll have any trouble but if something should happen and we get separated we all know what to do right? Oh and Ginny dear, would you mind helping Sasuke and Naruto find their supplies after we go to the bank? I really don’t like the idea of either of them wandering around lost"
Sasuke glared at the wall at that statement. He could get around anywhere, no problem. He was a damn ninja after all.
"Sure." Ginny said with a smile. She was really taking a liking to these two boys... Not as much as she liked Harry though.
Mrs. Weasley tapped the bricks in order and took a step back as the whole wall came to life. The mortar seemed to melt as the bricks shuffled around one another to swiftly form an archway through which Diagon Alley could be seen.
Naruto however was more interested in the moving bricks. "Sasuke, that was awesome! We don’t have anything like this at home!"
Sasuke just rolled his eyes amongst the giggles from the girls and the snickers from the guys. "Just try not to embarrass yourself or me while we're here." He stepped through the archway and looked around. It was a nice little area with shops lining each side of the cobblestone road, which he decided after three steps hated with a passion.
Ginny said goodbye to Harry, Ron and Hermione, plus her mother as she turned to the boys. "So, what do you two need to do first? I'm guessing you want the bank right?"
Naruto pouted and stuck his hands in the pockets of his jacket. He counted himself lucky to have enough money to get ramen for a week if there weren't any missions. How was he supposed to pay for class supplies in another country? "I guess so. Why do we need all new potions stuff anyway? Isn’t ours good enough Sasuke?"
Sasuke looked at the blond. "Apparently here they have different standards than in Japan. And don't worry about money, I'll be paying for your stuff." he said absently, like he did it every day.
Ginny thought it was sweet that Sasuke would do that for his... "You two are boyfriends aren't you?" she asked matter-of-factly. It had been obvious to the observant girl ever since she had first met them.
Naruto turned his head and regarded Ginny. She was cute for a girl and a whole lot nicer than Sakura. "Well of course we are. How else do you figure we avoid beating each other up on principle?"
She nodded slightly "That makes sense. Anyway, the bank is just over there." She pointed to a building that looked like it was about to fall over, at least to Sasuke it looked a bit crooked.
The raven nodded his thanks and didn't protest when she accompanied them on the walk to the lopsided building.
With their quest for money accomplished and a blessing form Mrs. Weasley who promised to get Ginny's things for her, the trio walked out of Gringotts with its goblin caretakers "Those were some FUGLY goblins! But I still think the ones back home are much worse. I wonder how ugly goblin women are. Do you think they could turn you to stone if you stare at them too long?"
Sasuke growled under his breath and didn't bother giving Naruto an answer. He pulled out his list of supplies and books. "We should probably go get our books."
Ginny piped up at that. "Flourish and Blots is over there." She vaguely pointed up the road a ways. "Follow me."
Sasuke followed but held back just a bit so he could talk to Naruto privately. "Here" he said a bit quietly as he shoved a bag of money into the blonde's hands. "That's for when we're at school. You know... for the village we get to visit on some of the weekends."
Naruto gratefully accepted the money and put it in his frog pouch with the few remaining bits of Japanese coinage he had. The bag closed with a satisfying pop and the little toad was plump as can be. "I love this thing when it's full." The blond smiled happily until they got to the bookstore. They were in a country where English was spoken, that meant the books were in English too. Oh he was so domed!
Sasuke browsed through the shelves and found the first book they needed. "Naruto, why don't you go find half of this list for us, it should go faster that way." he said, not giving Naruto a chance to respond before he was off.
Naruto looked at the list, which half was he suppose to do, and how the hell was he going to find the books? Damn that Sasuke, he left all the hard stuff to him! "Great; just great, now where's the part of the store with the school crap?" The blond looked around and couldn’t shake the feeling that there were eyes on him as he set off for the aisles where other people his age were congregating.
Meanwhile, another blond boy was eyeing the orange clad dork which totally didn't fit the profile of wizard. What the hell was this trash doing in a Wizarding store? He decided it was time he intervened and figured out just where this kid was coming from.
Draco Malfoy stepped out from behind the proverbial shadows and walked right in front of Naruto’s path. He put on his trademark sneer and looked the boy up and down. "So, they're now letting clowns into Hogwarts? I've never seen you around here before..."
The blond stopped in his tracks with his hand part way to where he usually kept a kunai or two, Sasuke had insisted that he leave them at the Burrow though. "And just who the fuck are you? What are you suppose to be anyway, some kind of blond match? Maybe you are ‘cause you’re attitude is really shitty!" Naruto knew he was just talking out of his ass at this point, but hell; no one pisses him off without a fight.
Draco scoffed at the lame insult. He already didn't like him. "So, you're obviously not from around here, and who was that other guy with you?" He knew he had seen him somewhere before he just couldn't figure out where.
Naruto scowled in a way that made his whiskers stand out, usually this made people back off, which he liked on occasion. This guy was bad news with a capital B. "Wouldn’t you like to know! Well I'm not gonna tell you. Not only because Sasuke wouldn't like it but because I don’t like you either! So why don’t you gust crawl back into whatever hole you came from before I beat the crap out of you?"
Malfoy thought on that for a moment. "Sasuke... You mean as in Uchiha?" His tone was a bit thoughtful; not so much with the hatred from before. His mind had switched gears; if it was indeed Sasuke Uchiha... "Well then, I'm sure I'll be seeing you around." the pompous blond said with a sneer on his face once more and he headed off in the direction he last saw the raven.
Naruto stood up straight and changed gears as quickly as he could. What the hell was that about? As soon as he mentioned Sasuke this asshole's whole demeanor changed to something a little less annoying but not by much. "Who was that guy? Ah well, I guess it doesn’t matter; I probably won’t see HIM again. Now what was I doing?" The blond looked up at the ceiling and struck a thoughtful pose. Sasuke had wanted him to find something…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Draco left the idiot blond and made his way to where he last saw the young raven. From his father, he knew that this family form Japan was powerful and had produced many fine witches and wizards of pure blood which was pretty rare these days.
To date only two of that powerful family had come to England for any reason so if he, Draco, could befriend the third one to arise his standing in his Father’s circle of friends, it would be that much more beneficial to him in the long run.
The slender Slytherine kept his eyes peeled for any sight of black eyes or hair that was so black it was almost blue when he spotted his target. The young man was barely taller than a first or second year and he wasn't dressed like any wizard he knew but that hair was unmistakable, now to put his fledgling plan to work. "You know, I thought I saw someone I recognized in here. Although I admit that I only know you through the others of your family that live here."
Sasuke could already feel the voice grating on his nerves. Whoever this guy was... He turned around to face the newcomer, having to halt his conversation with Ginny, who he had found in the store after he had left Naruto. "So, you know my brother do you? Maybe I'll give you an autograph later, I'm busy at the moment." he said before he turned back to Ginny.
Ginny looked at the blond like she would do something nasty to him at any moment, if he so much as breathed wrong in her direction. She really had no tolerance for him. He usually didn't pick on her nearly as much as her brother Ron, but she'd had her fair share of insults from Slytherine girls, no doubt from Draco's influence.
Draco firmly sat on his natural instinct to rip this foreigner a new one in more ways than one and made himself remain calm. With all he had to do this year in school he couldn’t afford to lose face in front of the Dark Lord, he especially couldn't let that old mud-blood- lover, Dumbledore, manage to recruit this Uchiha. If Voldemort found out and thought that his young servant had let this young Uchiha get away, the consequences would be dire. He had to be careful and get on this one’s good side quickly ad early. "You should be careful around those Weasley's you know? Their whole family could put their savings into a cauldron. I'd make sure nothing was missing of yours if I were you, you can only trust lesser people as far as you can see them."
Sasuke now knew for sure that he didn't like this kid. "I can assure you that the Weasley's are a very nice family. I'm staying with them after all. Now did you need something? I'm a bit busy like I said not a second ago."
Ginny stifled her laughter behind a book. This guy was good.
Draco scowled and gave the back of the Uchiha’s head a glare in a way that would melt the face off a house elf. Those blasted Weasley’s had already poisoned his mind to what the future would become. And through the Weasley’s, Dumbledore must have touched him. And Sasuke, like others before him was lost. The new future that Voldemort promised would come to pass without the young Uchiha in it. "If you find that you've lost something you know where to look but don't say I didn’t warn you. After all, people from strong Wizarding families must stick together, with the way things are. If you don’t you may just become one of the missing people everyone's talking about. If you ever get tired of watching your back you should come see me, I know all the important people who can help those who are worthy of being saved."
Sasuke glared at the young blond who was nothing like his blond. "So I'm guessing since you’re so adamant about me "joining" you that my brother has refused your offer as well? Well if that's the case, then I definitely decline." He trusted Itachi's judgment more than anyone else and if this guy was no good in his older sibling’s eyes, then there was no reason to think twice. "Come on." he told Ginny quietly as he gently steered her away from the frustrated youth that was Draco.
Malfoy fumed as the pair turned their backs on him. How dare they treat him this way! Well they would see… Everyone would see! Draco Malfoy was no coward and he would get his job done, even if that meant killing a few extra people to get his way. With that, the seething blond stormed out of Flourish and Blotts to find his mother and get out of this dump as quickly as possible to get everything ready for when he had to act.
Naruto watched from behind a bookshelf as the asshole left the crowded store and felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. That guy was some serious bad news and no mistake. The blond ninja made a face and turned to get back with Sasuke before something else bad happened.
Sasuke glared at nothing in particular as he got the rest of his books. "Is he always like that?" he asked Ginny as he headed over toward Naruto.
Ginny sighed. "Yep, his whole family are snobbish assholes. His father is in Azkaban at the moment because he was a death eater... you… do know what that is right?"
The blond smiled impishly as he popped up right behind Ginny with a tantalizing bit of knowledge on the tip of his tongue. "They’re a cult that serves some Moldy guy right? They were really strong years ago and people were dying left and right. What was the bad guy’s name; Moldymort, Moldybutt?"
Sasuke rolled his eyes. "It's Vol..."
Ginny clapped a hand over Sasuke's mouth without thinking. She, like Ron had never really felt comfortable with the name, especially after that encounter with said man and the chamber of secrets. "Maybe you should tell him later." she said, still able to keep her cool.
Sasuke for the most part looked a bit uncomfortable but relaxed once the girl removed her hand from his face. "Don't worry about it Naruto, I'll tell you later. Just refer to him as 'You know who', alright?" Sasuke himself had no problem saying Voldemort's name, but he knew a lot of other's had issues with it and it was the least he could do to respect their comfort zones.
"But I can’t say You-Know-Who if I don’t know who they are! It makes less sense to me and that's saying something!" The orange-clad ninja gestured wildly with his arms and barely missed smacking an elderly witch on the side of the head in passing his over exuberance. "Why can’t you just tell me? It’s not like something’s gonna jump out of a wall and eat you."
Sasuke glared at the blond but ignored the stupidity of his statement. "Its common courtesy to respect other's comfort zones. A lot of Witches and wizards are uncomfortable when they hear the name. Come on; let's just pay for our books so we can finish getting our school stuff. We're going to have to get robes next."
"Fine be that way! But when I figure out what that name is I’m not going to be afraid to use it!" the blond pouted and followed his friends, both new and old, out of the shop for the rest of their things. Naruto had a feeling that this was going to be a rough year.
