Sai returned a week later as stated and unlocked the apartment door around 2am. He figured his lover would be asleep and he couldn't think of anything better to do than slide under the blankets with the blonde and rest his sore muscles.

He made his way into the apartment and headed straight to the bathroom to shower before heading to bed. The water felt amazing on his muscles as he thoroughly cleaned himself from head to toe, not being able to have a proper shower the whole week.

After drying off, he headed into the bedroom and slipped on a pair of comfortable pants before sliding into bed next to his blonde love. He wrapped his arms around Naruto and held the man gently as he kissed his neck once before settling down for the night.


Naruto was indeed sound asleep when Sai let himself in early that morning. He didn't even stir when his lover turned on the shower in the next room to clean up. The blond hadn't slept much at all in the past week, distraught over having to cut Sasuke from his life, so it was the first time since that fateful day that he'd really gotten a good sleep.

Though when Sai slipped into the bedroom and got in under the covers, he did finally rouse as he felt his lover's arms wrap around him and felt Sai's lips on his neck before he finally settled for the night. Naruto sighed softly in content that his lover was back from his mission, feeling slightly comforted by his presence.

He knew Sai would be tired and he himself was too exhausted to stay awake long so he let himself slip back into sleep. He'd enjoy some quality time with Sai in the morning.

A few hours later, Sai roused from sleep and looked at the clock to find it was almost twelve in the afternoon. He figured his lover let him sleep in which he was grateful for, needing the sleep. The pale man rose and stretched, feeling his back pop and shivered slightly at the feeling. He slipped a shirt on before heading out in search for his boyfriend.

He found the blonde in the kitchen, preparing lunch it seemed. Sai approached Naruto and kissed the scarred man's cheek before heading to the fridge for something to drink. "Thanks for letting me sleep in, I was exhausted. I missed you." he said as he returned to Naruto, bottle of green tea in hand.

Naruto had gotten up fairly early in the morning and let Sai sleep in to get his rest while he puttered around the house, cleaning up. Once it got close to noon he started to cook lunch, knowing his lover would be up soon and would be hungry.

And just as he expected Sai came into the kitchen not too long after twelve. He glanced over his shoulder where he stood and smiled lightly as Sai came over to him. "Mm...morning love...or rather good afternoon...” he chuckled softly, "I figured you'd be tired.” He turned back to the food cooking on the stove to make sure it wouldn't burn. " I missed you too, it was...a long week.." he said. Though it was a long week for another matter, one that he wouldn't explain to Sai. It had wore him down as well, he wasn't quite as chipper as he usually was and once Sai got a good look at his face he'd probably see the tiredness on his features.

The raven set down his drink on the counter and wrapped his arms around the blonde. "Why, what happened? You haven't been sleeping well baby?"

Naruto leaned lightly into Sai's body when he felt Sai's arms go around him and he gazed at his lover as Sai looked over him. " Oh, I never sleep all that well when you're gone Sai...I always worry about you when you're on a mission.." he said and smiled lightly.

Sai smiled at that and kissed the blonde's cheek. "That's sweet... but you've never lost sleep over it before." He continued to smile as he stared at Naruto. "What was different this time?"

Naruto wasn't keen on sharing the reason why he wasn't sleeping well, he knew Sai wouldn't like it and he didn't have an excuse for it either. “Nothing’s different...guess I was just more worried this time...It’s been a while since you had such a long mission...” he said. He knew it was a lie.....and he knew he wasn't a person who lied. But he was just so afraid of how Sai would react if he knew the truth. He hated that he had to lie and he definitely never wanted to start doing so to someone he cared about.

The pale man frowned and let go of Naruto and turned away. "You're lying." Was all he said before heading to the bedroom. Sai came back out fully dressed. "I need to talk to Tsunade about the mission. When I get back, you're going to tell me the truth." The pale man fixed his gaze to Naruto's, showing he was serious before he headed out the door, lunch ignored.

Naruto frowned as Sai was able to spot that he was lying so easily but he guessed it was because he was just a horrible liar. It wasn't like he ever did it. He watched Sai as he disappeared into their bedroom, a bad feeling starting to knot up in his stomach. It wasn't long before Sai returned and he looked at his lover as he spoke, opening his mouth to say something but closed it again knowing he would likely only make it worse. He watched Sai as he headed out the door, not bothering to eat the lunch he'd made for him. He hung his head lightly, staring at his feet before he turned off the burners on the stove, not even feeling like eating himself. He left everything where it was and moved to the couch, curling up on it.

Sai returned a couple hours later and upon entering the apartment, saw Naruto sprawled out on the couch. He had calmed down a bit but knew that the reason for Naruto's tiredness was due to Sasuke, what other explanation could there be?

He headed into the kitchen, ignoring Naruto's gaze and noticed dinner had been prepared for him. "At least you can to that right." he murmured to himself as he headed back out to the living room. "So.. are you ready to tell me the truth?" He had his green tea from earlier in his hand again and took a long swig from it.

Naruto was on edge once Sai returned and he watched his lover as he headed into the kitchen before returning again. He gazed up at Sai as he spoke before frowning. He knew he couldn't lie again...Sai would know he was lying and it would make things worse. His stomach churned though and he sighed softly before he started to speak, " I...I just told Sasuke I couldn't see him anymore...that's all..." He looked away from Sai, hurt showing in his blue eyes. “I...I can't help the fact that it’s hard to let him go.”

Sai's rage built once his suspicions were confirmed and he threw the glass bottle against the wall behind Naruto. "That's not what you promised me!" He rarely yelled, but when his trust was compromised... "I specifically told you to not see him anymore. I don't care if you wanted to be a good friend and tell him about it. Just don't see him anymore." He had walked up to Naruto as he yelled, getting into the blonde's face and shaking with suppressed anger.

Naruto gasped as the bottle flew through the air and smashed into the wall behind him, making him duck his head and cover himself with his arms to protect himself from the shattering glass. He felt fear build up inside him and he shrank back against the couch as Sai approached him as he yelled at him. He knew Sai was enraged when he yelled as the other hardly ever yelled. " I..I'm sorry...p..please..." he whimpered, tears beginning to leak from his blue eyes.

Sai was disgusted with Naruto's tears. "You're so weak." he said as he grabbed the blonde by his golden locks and threw him on the ground. "You can't even take someone yelling at you. Would you rather me give you something to cry about?" He placed a foot atop Naruto's chest and pressed down on his boyfriend's ribcage. He kneeled on one knee, his foot still pressing into the weak bones. He stared down at the blue eyed man, stared at the tears leaking from fearful eyes. "You should have known not to lie to me... It won't get you anywhere."

Naruto yelped as Sai grabbed him by the hair before throwing him to the floor and before he could try and scramble away Sai's foot pressed down on his chest, putting stress on his ribs to the point that he feared they would break. He gasped for breath as the pressure made it hard to breathe and he squirmed beneath Sai's foot, gripping onto his leg. " P..Please..I..I'm sorry" he pleaded, the words coming out in a wheezing gasp.

Sai pressed down a bit harder for just a second more before releasing the blonde. He kneeled next to him for a moment, watching as tears continued to stream down his boyfriend's face. A pang of guilt hit him but he pushed it back. Naruto deserved this, he lied and liars were not tolerated in his eyes.

He stood and stepped over the man that he loved. "Clean up the couch." was all he said before opening the front door. "I need some air." He slammed the door shut and headed in no particular direction, needing to clear his mind.

Naruto felt any air that had been left in his lungs pushed out as Sai's foot put more pressure against his chest before he finally released him and Naruto rolled onto his side, coughing and gasping as he sucked in air. His chest hurt terribly and he knew that his ribs hadn't been broken, but he knew that the muscles had been bruised pretty badly and each breath inward expanded his chest and made his ribs ache.

His gazed turned upwards to look at Sai as he stood over him before moving to head out the door and as it slammed behind him, Naruto flinched. He lay on the floor for a little while, unable to pick himself up. He coughed and he had a faint taste of blood in his mouth from his bruised insides. He ignored it however, having been a shinobi he was quite used to the taste of blood in his mouth and eventually pushed himself up off the floor, wincing as a hand held his chest as he stood up. He sniffled lightly as tears still trickled from his eyes and he wiped them away quickly as he headed into the kitchen to grab the broom to sweep up the glass and a towel to try and wipe up the couch before returning to the living room to clean up. He'd never been so scared of Sai as he had been that moment. He'd stared down death quite a few times in his short life and endured such pain all the while yet he trembled in the face of Sai's anger. Perhaps he was weak like Sai said....he was weak and pathetic and he didn't deserve what he had. He wondered why Sai was even with him in the first place.

Sasuke was making his weekly trip to the store to stock up on food for his business when he spotted Sai head in the opposite direction of his and Naruto’s shared apartment. The man looked pissed off and that set off something in Sasuke that he couldn't explain. He kept out of sight of the other raven as he quickly left his errand for later and headed to Naruto's apartment. He'd be damned if anyone told him to stay away when his best friend could possibly be in danger.

He made it to the blonde's place of residence in record time and prayed no one saw him, as he was not allowed to conceal or outwardly use chakra, he knocked on the door.

Naruto did his best to wipe up the couch of the tea that had splashed all over it before sighing lightly. It would have to dry the rest of the way on its own. He took the dustpan full of glass to the kitchen and tossed the glass in the garbage before he put everything away. He suddenly coughed once again, wincing as it hurt his chest to do so and then wiped the bit of blood from his mouth.

At the knock on the door he practically jumped out of his skin, his nerves on edge now for fear of an angry Sai coming back but he realized quickly enough that Sai wouldn't knock on the door. He rubbed his chest lightly as the sudden jolt that the noise had given him made him ache before he moved to the door. He opened it a little ways and peered outside to see who it was. Once he saw it was Sasuke his blue eyes widened slightly, fear evident in their depths. " S..Sasuke...n..no you can't be here....please...just go.." he said, fearing what Sai would do if he saw Sasuke here.

Sasuke immediately pushed his way in after seeing the utter fear in his friend's eyes and shut the door, locking it behind him. "What did he do to you?" He demanded firmly but gently. "I know he hurt you just now, he wouldn't so pissed otherwise. I saw him walking away from the complex...." He paused and saw the dried tear tracks on the blonde's scarred face. He almost felt like crying himself at seeing Naruto like that.

Naruto stepped back as Sasuke pushed his way into the doorway and then closed the door behind him, locking it quickly. He frowned before shaking his head, obviously on edge. " I..I'm fine, really Sasuke...just go home....you'll just make him angrier if he knows you were here..." he said.

"Fuck Sai. I really don't care what he thinks. I do care that he's hurting you. What did he do to make you cry?" He reached out to run a hand down Naruto's cheek but dropped the hand as Naruto flinched away.

"How can this be worth anything? Why don't you just leave him Naruto? He's doing nothing but hurt you and putting you in constant fear and controlling you. Can't you see that?" He looked at Naruto with pleading eyes. "Just leave him... he doesn't love you."

Naruto stepped away from Sasuke and turned his back towards him, his arms wrapping around himself. " He does too love me....you..you don't know what he's like when he's happy...when I don't make him angry.." he said before frowning heavily. " He was here for me....when you left....you...knew what it would do to me but you still left me, " he said, shivering where he stood. " Go away Sasuke....leave, I don't want you here..." he said, trying to steal the tone of his voice and push Sasuke away. He didn't want to hurt Sasuke but he feared what Sai would do when he came back. He didn't care what Sai did to him, but he wouldn't be able to handle it if he hurt Sasuke. Sasuke wasn't allowed to use his shinobi skills, he feared that Sai would use that to his advantage.

Sasuke frowned at Naruto’s words. "So it's my fault that he beats you? I've changed Naruto. I'm not who I was then and you know it. If I wasn't so bent on all the lies I was told, I probably wouldn't have left."

Sasuke felt tears well up in his eyes for the first time since he discovered the truth about his brother and he desperately tried to push them back, tried to push down his emotions. "I can't stand to see you ruin yourself like this. But... I guess I can't help you if you don't want it." He turned to leave, hearing the slight wheeze of the blonde’s breathing. "You might want to at least go the hospital.... You know where to find me. I won't bother you anymore." With that the spiky haired raven left the apartment quietly and silently slipped away and headed home.

Naruto hated himself for doing that to Sasuke...for hurting him like that and the ache in his bruised chest paled in comparison to the searing pain in his heart. It was destroying him on the inside and once Sasuke left he sank to the floor, sobbing once again even though it made the ache in his chest worse to do so.

He wanted so badly to run after Sasuke and apologize, to tell him that he did want him around...but in the long run it would be the best for all of them. Once Sasuke was out of his life, Sai would calm down and everything would be alright.

Sai returned late into the night and came upon Naruto on the floor almost where he left him earlier but the blonde had obviously moved. He seemed to be asleep and Sai scooped him up and carried his lover into the bedroom, laying him down on the bed gently.

He could tell that Naruto had woken up while had been carrying him and he now looked down into the bleary blue eyes. "God I am so sorry. I feel... horrible for doing what I did. I know you lied to keep me happy, but I just don't like being lied too. I love you so much. Please, forgive me; I just don't want to lose you." He could easily see Naruto’s expressions in the light from the moon that streamed into their otherwise dark bedroom. "Please don't be scared of me. I don't want you to fear me."

Naruto had cried himself into exhaustion on the floor and passed out shortly after Sasuke had left only to wake up when he felt himself picked up off the floor, making a slightly pained face from the movement. He opened his sleepy eyes to look up at Sai as he was laid on the bed before curling up slightly. His breathing was a bit wheezy as he gazed up at his lover. " I...I shouldn't have lied...I'm..not the type of person to do that...so I shouldn't have.." he said softly.

Sai was mindful of his lover's ribs as he gently ran a hand over the blonde's chest. "It doesn't seem too bad." he said in regards to Naruto's injuries. "There's no internal bleeding, you should heal quickly." Sai kissed Naruto's lips but paused and pulled back. "You promise me... That you won't see him anymore."

Naruto shivered slightly as Sai ran his hand gently over his ribs and even though he was being mindful it still was a bit painful but he smiled lightly up at Sai. " I'll be alright, " he said softly before leaning up lightly as Sai kissed his lips. He gazed up at Sai and he nodded lightly, " I promise..."
He was glad that his eyes were all cried out from earlier or they would have been tearing up yet again. He wondered how long it would take before he could get over the Uchiha.

Sai raised his eyebrow at Naruto at his words. "You told me that before... yet you lied to me about it. How do I know you won't do it again?" He rolled over so he was now above the blonde, looking down at him in the semi-darkness of the room.

Naruto gazed up at Sai as his lover looked down at him from above. He reached a hand up to rest on Sai's cheek gently. “I swear...I won't lie again...I shouldn't have done it in the first place..." he said softly, “I don't want to lose your trust...”

Sai smiled at the man below him and kissed the hand that was on his cheek gently. "Good. You want to make it up to me?" He smirked as he leaned down to kiss those tempting lip beneath him as he nibbled on Naruto's bottom lip.

Naruto felt his cheeks redden slightly as Sai kissed his hand gently before he leaned up slightly into Sai's lips, ignoring the aching in his ribs. He parted his lips lightly in a sigh as his lover nibbled on his bottom lip before purring lightly. " Of course, I'd love to make it up to you.." he murmured against Sai's lips. He hoped his chest wouldn't bother him too much.

Though neither of them was cleaned up and by morning the sheets would be have to be changed, he didn't mind...he didn't really feel like getting up to clean up at the moment.

Sai kissed Naruto and held the blonde carefully in his arms. “I promise… It’ll never happen again… ok? I love you.” With that, the raven settled against Naruto and closed his eyes, easily drifting off to sleep.

Naruto smiled lightly at his lover and curled up to Sai lightly as he settled in to sleep. “I love you too Sai..." he said softly before he rested his head against Sai's chest and closed his eyes to drift off to sleep as well. It didn't take him long; he was rather exhausted physically and mentally.
