Cloak and Dagger

Shikamaru left the sage's hotel room over an hour later his expression as dark as a storm cloud. Who the hell did Itachi think he was doing that shit to Naru?

He growled and stuffed his fists in his pants pockets to keep from giving in to temptation and breaking something.

This was bullshit, all of it. The Uchiha's had no right to drag Naru into their personal vendetta's against each other.

 

Yet that was exactly what they were doing.

Itachi's little run in with Sauske before he had defected had shown the elder brother something about Sauske's feelings for Naru that had sparked the man's interest in her. It was part of the reason that he had kidnapped her and impregnated her. He had probably thought that he was stealing her away from Sauske, the cock sucker.

 

And the baby... She was like her mother, an innocent caught up in a fight that was'nt and never had been hers to begin with.

I want to kill them. He thought darkly. No he was going to kill them. Both of them.

 

He would kill them both and Naru and her daughter would be able to sleep more soundly at night for it.

He closed his eyes for a second as a wave of guilt rose up, threatening to choke him, he was so out of it that he nearly mowed down Kakashi as he stepped out in front of him.

"Jesus!" Shika yelped as he jumped back raising one hand up to his chest as his heart thudded against his ribs like it was going to come out of his chest. Kakashi looked up from his porn book, and looked at him as if he had'nt just purposely stepped out in front of him.

 

"Oh, Shikamaru what are you doing?"

 

"Not scaring the daylights out of kids, that’s what." Shika snapped at him in irritation. Kakashi raised a brow at him and turned the page.

"That's so mean, Shikamaru. I would expect that kind of behavior from Naruto but not you."

"Can it pervert. What do you want?" The teen growled at him, he was in no mood for Kakashi's shit right now.

 

"Your in a bad mood today." I wonder what set him off. Kakashi wondered as Shikamaru started walking again, the copy nin falling into step beside him.

"Yeah well, bad news can piss a guy off, now what do you fucking want?" Shika snapped at the copy nin, who gave him a warning look. He didn't particularly liked being cursed at, but if Shika had been told something classified and was upset by it, well he could let it slide.

"I heard that Naruto was back. But I have'nt seen him. Sakura and Tsunade are tearing the village apart looking for him too. Any idea's where he might be?"

"Nope, sorry." Shika dead panned and Kakashi looked up from his porn book to give the teen a once over

Shika's bad mood was no excuse for poor manners, he could beat the truth out of him, but the teen was'nt likely to tell him anything even if he did. Still nothing was as much fun as punching someone for pissing you off. And that was exactly what Shika was doing. He was pissing off the copy nin in a big way.

 

Kakashi had'nt seen his student in almost four years and wanted to know just what the hell had taken the blond so damn long to come back?

 

He had missed Naruto terribly. Kakashi closed his book with a snap and tucked it in his weapon's pouch and grasped the younger man's arm and nearly jerked him off of his feet. Shika twisted his head around and bared his teeth at the silver hair jounin as Kakashi smiled pleasantly.

He didn't feel like fucking around with the kid and wanted to know where Naruto was. Right now.

"What?"

"Where is Naruto?"

 

"I. Don't. Know." Shika hissed from between clenched teeth as Kakashi tightened his grip on his upper arm, threatening to break the bone to get the information even though he knew he would get in trouble for it.

 

"Your lying. It is'nt wise to lie to Naruto's sensei-" Kakashi said in a sing song voice that reminded Shika of Ino when she had some nice gossip-it set the Nara's teeth on edge as Kakashi's grip tightened just a little more causing Shika to hiss in pain.

Gods it felt like his bone was on fire under his skin! Kakashi continued to smile pleasantly as Shika looked at him as he continued to speak.

"Because you might get hurt..." Kakashi finished the sentence with a nice threat as he felt the bone in Shika's arm start to give under his fingers and watched the boy blink back tears before he snarled.

"I'm not telling you where Naruto is!"

"Why not?"

"Because you’re no better than Sauske!"

 

Kakashi froze, his mind going blank as his fingers loosened a fraction of a bit. What the hell was that supposed to mean? He was way better than Sauske. He didn't hurt his students. He didn't try and kill them, he taught them everything he could. Really he had...

"Sensei, will you teach me?" Naruto asked as he ran up to his sensei, grinning like a maniac. He had looked so much like his father in that instant that Kakashi had nearly put his fist through the wall next to him.

"No."

 

"Why not?" Naruto asked as his smile faded a bit.

"Because, I'd rather train Sauske."

So that I don't have to be near you, and remember the pain that I've tried so hard to forget. Kakashi had thought as Naruto took a step forward and reached out to grab his shirt sleeve. Kakashi's fingers had itched to slap the boy's face and tell him not to whine and to go away.

He had'nt wanted to be near the one person he had left but was'nt sure what to do with.

It had simply hurt too damn much. Naruto represented the ties to his terrible past, and at the same time his ties to a future that was'nt yet here. A future that Kakashi had felt he was'nt welcome too be a part of.

 

He had hated him for that, at least until he had gone after Naruto when Sauske had defected and found him unconscious and barely alive. The jutsu that he had taught to Sauske so that he could protect his teammates and friends, was the one jutsu that had nearly ended Naruto's life.

Kakashi had made a point of watching the boy as so closely that it could have been stalking, if he was'nt the kids sensei it might have been stalking. But he had started to see Naruto in a whole new light after that, and though it may be too little too late, he did want the boy to know him, to grow up and be happy.

He wanted to see the future that Naruto helped create, even if the boy hated him for it.

Kakashi let go of Shikamaru's arm and stood there for a second looking lost. "Just tell me where he is Shikamaru...I just want to see if he's okay."

"Go to hell Kakashi." Shika snapped as he turned and vanished into the gathering shadows.

Kakashi stood there in the street staring blankly ahead before nodding his head in agreement. He was already in hell and there would be no rest for him until he saw Naruto's smiling face.
