A Mother's Warmth: Hinata's Warmth

Neji slowly opened his eyes, grabbing his head in pain. He sat up and looked around, instantly freezing when he realized two things: One, he was back in Konohagure and two, the only reason he knew that was because he was laying in his old room at the Hyuuga estate.

"Where...? How...?!"

"Neji-Sama!"

He turned his head, instantly seeing TenTen walk in, wearing nothing more than a pink, Chinese-styled dress that stopped at her thighs. She sat down beside his bedroll and felt his forehead.

"TenTen-Chan..."

He hugged her tightly and she blushed horribly, gripping his white kimono.

"Neji-Sama...! What are you doing?"

"I missed you so much. What happened to Naruto, Sasuke and Shikamaru? Are they hurt? When did I return to Konoha?!"

Neji looked at TenTen as if he'd lost it.

"Okay, obviously that fever hasn't broken yet! Lay back down and I'll go ask Hiashi-Sama to make you something to eat!"

"Hiashi?! Why are we back at the Hyuuga estate?! Where's Hinata!? What has he done to her?!"

"Neji, please...!" TenTen yelled, grabbing his shoulders with both hands.

He looked at TenTen who started to become worried.

"Neji, relax, I'm begging you! You've become so hysterical! I'll be right back with Hiashi-outosama."

Before she had a chance to stand, he grabbed her wrist like vice. TenTen looked at him, his powder blue eyes intense.

"What...what did you call him?"

"Hiashi-Outousama. Neji, why wouldn't I call him that? He's my father-in-law, remember?"

"...Father IN-LAW?"

TenTen kneeled back down by his bedside and felt his forehead.

"You aren't running a fever...Maybe when it passed, it took some of you memories."

"Memories of what?"

"You don't remember? Your father Hiashi..."

"HOLD ON. Hiashi is NOT my father. His twin brother Hizashi is who my father is."

TenTen shook her head.

"You've got it all wrong. Hiashi Hyuuga is your father and Hinata-Chan is your sister and my sister-in law. Don't you remember any of this...? We were married and Tsunade performed the service herself...Hiashi even had his maids make me the most beautiful wedding dress you could ever imagine. Neji, this was almost three years ago..."

Neji was blown away by this point. So...had he been dreaming the entire time? Had there been no mission to Yukigure? His mind was very foggy, yet he remembered things that TenTen was saying was false. He heard the door to the room slowly slide open and heard a small voice ask,

"Okaachan...is Outouchan awake?"

Neji's eyes nearly bugged out of his head when he saw the little boy standing shyly in the doorway. He had short black hair and very pretty brown eyes. He was just wearing one of the white, Hyuuga robes.

"Sun-Ce, come see your father." TenTen smiled.

Neji's eyes almost hit the back of his head, but he managed to steady himself. He looked at the little boy walk in, kneeling over his daddy.

"Papa! You're awake."

"Who...?"

"Now, don't tell me you've forgotten about your only son, Neji!" TenTen asked, hands on her hips.

Neji looked at the boy before raising his hand to his delicate little face. This boy...was no doubt his son. Maybe he HAD been dreaming. But...how could he have missed the birth of his son? The boy looked no more than three and that had been around the same time TenTen said they'd gotten married. Neji sat up once more and hugged his son who giggled and hugged him back.

"Daddy...!"

"Sun-Ce...that's Chinese, isn't it?"

"Yep. Mommy told me that's what your name in Chinese means! It also means 'Great warrior'!"

Neji looked at TenTen and sighed with a resigned smile.

"I guess if this is how things are, this is how things will be."

"Neji..." she smiled.

"Well, is my son finally awake now?"

Neji quickly sat up, only to look at Hiashi walk in. Sun-Ce happily ran over to him.

"Grandpa! Daddy's finally awake."

Neji watched in disbelief as Hiashi picked his son up and smiled happily.

"Well, that's always good. Say, weren't you playing with Hikaru?"

"Hikaru...?!" Neji asked, quickly turning to look at Hiashi.

TenTen all seemed exasperated.

"You know...Hikaru Hyuuga?"

"Hyuuga...?"

Neji was just WAITING for someone to tell him he fathered Hinata's son. That was all he would need in this twilight zone freakout he was having. Neji stood up, walking over to Hiashi who smiled at him approvingly.

"I'm glad you have awakened, my son."

Neji could only nod. He was actually enjoying this warm feeling in his heart of acceptance. A maid called for Hiashi. Before he left, he turned around and smiled at Neji.

"Rest up, Neji."

"Uh...right." Neji nodded once more.

Upon Hiashi's leaving, TenTen sighed a little.

"Tch, look at the time, I have to go!"

"Where are you going and so soon?" Neji asked.

TenTen picked up Sun-Ce and smiled, kissing her son before setting him back down.

"Tsunade just wanted to talk to me about how you were doing. Sun-Ce, why don't you take daddy to see your auntie?"

Sun-Ce nodded with a smile and grabbed Neji's hand. Neji was instantly pulled out of the room, looking around the Hyuuga household. Everything remained the same, yet felt so different. He heard footsteps quickly running towards him and was more than surprised to see a familiar blonde boy running away from a raven-haired girl with green eyes. The two children didn't look very different age wise, however the girl looked a little younger. The boy, dressed in an orange kimono with a blue sash looked back at the girl and grinned.

"Hikaru-Kun, wait!" the girl giggled.

Neji moved aside as the blonde boy, with blonde hair in a bun similar to TenTen's, ran past him and laughed at the girl chasing him. The girl wore a dark-blue kimono with a familiar-looking red and white fan emblem on the back of her kimono.

"Hikari-Chan, hurry up! Oi, Sun-Ce, c'mon!"

Sun-Ce let go of his father's hands to chase after the two. Neji stood very confused to the point where it worried him. He recognized Hikaru, if a few years older, but Hi-ka-RI? Did Naruto and Hinata have another daughter? No...that girl had green eyes. Neji took another close look at the fan on the girl's kimono and before he had a chance to ask, a voice behind him laughed a little.

"Those kids...I believe the Hyuuga household has become such a wonderful place to raise children."

Neji turned around and his eyes were wide with the vision of pure beauty named Hinata Hyuuga. Her long, black hair was tied loosely at the end and she wore a traditional, albeit heavy, light pink and white kimono. She almost looked like a princess of Feudal Japan. She smiled at Neji, bowing her head.

"Oniichan, I'm so happy you are feeling well."

He was still in shock over seeing how beautiful Hinata looked...She'd even lightly colored her lips with a red gloss of some sort.

"H...Hinata-Chan. You look..."

Hinata blushed before he even finished what he was saying.

"Will you walk with me, Oniichan?"

He nodded, walking beside her.

"So, who was the little girl...?"

"You don't recognize her? You've seen her so many times. That's Hikari Uchiha."

"THAT'S where I saw that fan emblem on her back..."

Hinata nodded with a smile.

"Sasuke-Sama named Hikari so that my son Hikaru's matched her own."

"I saw Hikaru...he's grown so big. The last I saw him...he was just a day old."

They eventually wound up in the garden where Hinata sat on a stone bench beside the large koi-pond. Neji sighed a little, staring at the water.

"What troubles you, Oniichan?"

"Everything. I...I feel like I have everything I need, yet, I don't feel very happy."

His powder blue eyes were intense and focused.

"How could I forget the birth of my own son? Or the marriage to the woman of my dreams?"

"But...with everything you have, Neji-Oniichan...are you still happy? Isn't this what you want the most?"

"What...I want..." he sighed.

He did want what he had now. He had always wanted it: A beautiful wife, an energetic son...And to be respected by Hiashi Hyuuga to the point where he could call the man his father, despite the fact he really wasn't. If this is what he wanted...why didn't he feel happy about it? Hinata kneeled beside him, placing her hand on his own.

"Neji..."

"Hinata-Chan, tell me...What are you to me?"

"What is it you want me to be to you? What is it you wish the most?"

Neji felt himself becoming tired from the stress. He rested his head on Hinata's lap, inhaling her sweet scent. It was so peaceful as they sat beneath the cherry-blossom trees. Had he ever felt this much at peace with himself before? Hinata gently stroked his soft, black hair and he released a sigh of contentment.

"I...know that now, I'm happy. I wish...I could just stay like this. It feels like I should be remembering something..."

"Don't stress yourself trying to figure it out. Give yourself time to HEAL your soul, Oniichan..."

Neji closed his eyes, falling into a very peaceful sleep. If that was how things were, then he'd accept them, but he couldn't shake the nagging feeling that something was missing...That something...just wasn't right. He was suddenly struck with a horrible headache and heard someone yelling his name. The headache wouldn't go away, yet when Hinata held him closer to her, the pain stopped and he didn't hear someone yelling his name after a while.

"Hinata-Chan...what's going on...?"

"Just rest. You are overstressing your soul..."

As Neji closed his eyes once more, he could have sworn he'd heard someone else screaming his name, but he resigned himself to Hinata's warmth and finally, resigned himself to this sweet reality before him.
