Gaara stood stock still as the words made it to his ears. His body refused to move in any direction
and his flat green eyes riveted on the spot as Sasukes body crumpled to the ground. The blond stumbled
forward, the ravaged body swayed and his unearthly scream escaped the lips that ripped through Gaara’s
mind and Naruto’s body quivered like a tree assaulted by a storm. Gaara was too far to stop the man
from falling to the ground and a desperate wash of blood soaked sand pillowed the buckling man.
He barely caught him as the man landed on the ground, but no sound escaped the lips,
the chest was still.

Gaara had never felt this way, his limbs seemed to have locked up and his lungs didn’t seem
to want to expand and take in oxygen. The battered body was pale and the stark blood glistened
under the low light of the cavern like room. Gaara only heard the rushing of the blood in his ears
as he moved forward dropping to his knees staring at the body,

“Naruto…” His voice came out is a hoarse whisper and he reached over to touch the ashen face but
he pulled back sharply. He didn’t dare touch this man after what he had done. Instead his fingers
clutched at the cloth on his chest tightly, his thundering heart hurt all the more,

“..Don’t die…” He whispered. The crunching of dirt was right behind him and his eyes shot upward,
his brother was at his side. Swallowing hard his eyes desperately looked back at Naruto; his
fingers clenched even more into the cloth on his chest.

Kankuro skidded to a halt at the sight, one minute he was fighting off venom-filled snakes and the
next they all gave out a loud high-pitched screech and disappeared back into the ground. Kakashi
and Sakura were nearest to him and both were shocked at the sight, Uchiha Sasuke already dead and
Gaara kneeling next to Naruto. As soon as Kankuro stepped close enough his brothers eyes snapped up,
they were wide and scared, just like they had been when he was a child before society had broken him.
Pale fingers clutched at the chest tightened even more,

“…It hurts...” He said roughly, the green orbs turned back to Naruto and Kankuro held his breath
it didn’t look as if the other man was alive at all.

“Everyone move!” A voice roared and Kankuro found himself bodily shoved to side, a pink-headed Kunoichi
rushed over dropping to her knees next to Naruto.

“Kazekage-sama…please move.” Sakura asked breathlessly staring at Gaara, the redhead shook his
head once, the young women pursed her lips at his defiance before darting her eyes back to the man
in front of her, her hands gathering chakra and placing them over the body. Kankuro put a hand
on Gaara’s shoulder pulling him away so she could focus fully on trying to save the Hokage.

“I’m not leaving his side.” Gaara hissed glaring at the older brother anger full in his eyes,
Kankuro was used to his anger but not like this, but Gaara could get deadly if not handled correctly.

“You need to move.” The puppet manipulator said gently goading him away from the body.
The intense eyes darted once to the prone man before the heated gaze landed back on Kankuro,
and slowly the eyes softened and the man gave up the fight his fingers tightened at his
sides as he stared helplessly at the pale body.

“I…hurt him…”Gaara, whispered, his fingers shook slightly, unbecoming of a great leader.
He stared as the young Kunoichi worked, but it didn’t look like Naruto was breathing, he might not
ever breathe again.

“Gaara, what happened?” Kankuro asked trying to pull his brothers attention away from the Hokage,
but the black rimmed eyes stay fixated on the other man, the only person he had ever cared for so
intensely and deeply, was dying because of him.

Sakura gasped in pain trying to pull the man back from deaths door and the glowing chakra in her
palms quivered in exertion. Even though she was a highly trained medic, and near the prowess as
Tsunade herself, everything about Naruto’s body screamed death and dying. The body shook as she
forced her chakra into the flesh, veins and muscles, urging the heart to pump evenly and the blood
to flow.

“Come on...come on!!” Sakura ground out shaking her head once to clear the tears from her eyes.
Focus, she needed to focus! She looked over once to see the Kazekage tightly gripping the front of
his tunic, his fingers white, his body was shaking. Her eyes dared to glance at the body of her former
teammate and the chakra oscillated once more, hot tears spilling down her eyes. Clenching her teeth
she forced her eyes away from her past comrade to Naruto and she redoubled her efforts.
She would not lose him!

He was so cold. Nothing would move, his limbs frozen in place, the smell of his blood thick in the
air, the tangy coppery taste of it on his tongue. He heard voices…but nothing he could make out.
Cold…so cold…

If you die now child, I will cause such destruction on your village for this…

A voice growled deep in his mind, a single flare of life sparking once. Naruto sank deeper
into the blackness,

The demon prowled restlessly in its cage teeth bared as he glared down at him.

“Then they’ll be another to put you into some poor child and this whole saga will start all over again,”
Naruto replied in almost a bored fashion, ignoring the demons eyes as they blazed with anger.

Foolish boy. There is not one as strong as Yodaime in your village, or in any of the other villages
for that matter.

The beast purred cruelly, Naruto’s cerulean eyes shot up to his inhabitants,

“You wouldn’t dare.” He hissed in warning.

Your life partner put so much effort into saving you, and now that’ll you’ll die here
I will find his village and kill him along with it. Goaded the Demon. The fire burned
hotter and Naruto made a noise akin to a snarling animal

“You evil vile creature! I’ll live and keep you locked up, where you belong!” Naruto roared back
struggling back up through his subconscious the hot flame coiling all the brighter.

The man gasped his body shuddering and little fluttering spasms wracked the flesh in effort
to stay alive

That’s it child…stay alive…whispered the demon drawing back deeper into the man and spreading
whatever chakra left throughout the body. Naruto’s eyes rolled upward at the pain ran from every
nerve and the loud gasp that managed it past his throat filled his lungs with air,

“We have a pulse!” Someone said near to him, flowing chakra working hard. The pain was unbearable,
but his vocal cords clenched up and refused to voice anything. Eyes sliding open briefly wide black
rimmed orbs were fearfully staring down at him, Gaara…those were Gaara’s eyes!

“..Gaa…ra…” He rasped before the next wave of pain wracked through his body and everything
turned to black.

Still has lots of things to do...like healing poor Naru-chan...Yes...Gaara will be guilty...for sometime.....lots of healing needed for this story, I had to pass through the chapter a few times to catch the things I didn't the first five-hundred times I read it but I still miss things XD lol, oh well, life goes on!!
