Leaves in the River
A week passed by, and Kakashi suggested to Koroshi that she spend time with some old friends. So she decided to spend a day with Neji, as she had not seen him in a while. She sent him a letter, and had him meet her by the river for a small sparring match in the Hyuga style martial arts. “You have improved, despite not training, Koroshi-san.” “Thank you, Neji.” “So, how are your sons doing?” “They are doing well, thank you. How is your life going?” “Well…” He blushed slightly. “I am seeing someone now.” “Oh, really now?” Koroshi laughed. “Tell me, tell me! Who is she?” “…Tenten confessed to me, a couple weeks ago.” “You and Tenten, hm? I can see that! You two make a lovely pair, now that I think about it.” “Thank you, Koroshi-san.” “So, have you kissed yet?” Koroshi asked, gossiping curiosity in her tone. “Of course not! Such things are not proper, Koroshi-san!” Neji blushed furiously, and Koroshi just laughed. “You know, it amazes me how quickly time flows by,” Koroshi stated. Neji looked at her expectantly, anticipating more. “It seems like just yesterday that I was eleven years old and that Itachi-sama saved me…and now, I have Itachi’s son, Itachi’s legacy, and I can’t even really share it with him. Time goes so quickly. My sons are already several weeks old now. Does it not seem odd to you? It’s like…we are leaves in the river, flowing through time and not being able to stop.” “Leaves in the river, huh?” Neji smiled. “I used to think that way, or at least similarly. My father is dead now, and Naruto showed me that there is more to it than just fate, or just destiny. We can change that destiny, we can change our fate. Being born into the Hyuga clan, while it may seem like a good thing for the Byakugan, It can be quite a curse.” “I’ve never seen you open up this way before, Neji…is there more that is bothering you?” “Something strange, honestly. I’ve been thinking about how Shisui is the son of Itachi Uchiha, and I got to thinking about the past…Itachi seemed like such a kind, gentle person, not at all like someone who would just snap and murder his entire clan. Not to mention the fact that Sasuke is still alive…I feel something more behind it. But it has just been this nagging thought at the back of my mind, nothing more. Let’s resume sparring, and then I am to shower and then meet Tenten for a date.” And so that is what they did, and they dropped the conversation.
