Chp4: Distractions…
Sakura had never felt so distracted in her life. The mission itself had been a breeze. They had recovered the missing scroll within the first twenty minutes but Naruto had clumsily toppled over the statue situated in the patch of red clovers, thereby triggering the machinations of the marionette ninjas. Amidst avoiding the barrage of kunais and various sharp projections fired by the marionettes, Naruto had somehow managed to return the statue to it’s original position and all had been saved.
However, Sakura couldn’t stop thinking what had occurred after that, as they all prepared to lie exhausted upon the field of clovers. She had been about to collapse in a weary heap when a stray kunai from a lagging marionette had hurtled straight for her. Unaware, she had almost been subject to it’s wicked ministrations when Kakashi had swooped in, grabbing her by the waist and hurtling the both of them bodily towards the welcoming ground, the renegade kunai twirling around the finger he had used to catch it. She had had the wind literally knocked out of her. And now, lying there, aware of nothing but him, it was no wonder that Sakura was definitely distracted.
As she lay below Kakashi’s hard body, she could feel his chest moving with his heavy breaths, mirroring her own. She was so close to him, she could discern every hard muscle that pressed upon her body, his heat slowly and deliciously seeping towards her. The situation was disturbingly similar, only there had been a great deal more moving and grinding and groaning and screaming… A memory of herself gasping, ”Kakashi!,” entered her mind swiftly. Her cheeks flamed instantaneously. What was wrong with her?? Wouldn’t it have been much better for the both of them if she could just get past what was nothing more than a hot dream during a hot night? It wasn’t as if any of the feelings were real were they? Sakura felt really uncomfortable. If they didn’t exist in the slightest, it didn’t make sense that she would have managed to conjure them up for the first time in a dream. Besides, the emotions she had felt were just too strong…
She lifted her heavy lids slightly, their frame of lush eyelashes casting a shadow on the creamy tops of her blushing cheeks. Her green gaze self-consciously cast itself on Kakashi’s face for the first time since they fell on the clovers. She felt mortified. How long had they been like this? It had felt like forever! He would get the wrong idea! ‘But he hasn’t moved either…Maybe it’s just been a few seconds and I’ve been too lost in my thoughts to notice! This is embarrassing…’ To her surprise, her normally unflappable ex-sensei seemed to be caught in a trance and it involved his dark one-eyed gaze drinking in the sight of her! She flushed even more. He didn’t seem to be aware though. It was like the both of them were in their own world, two lovers caught in each other’s gazes, trying to mirror their love through their eyes, directly through to their souls. It was unnervingly similar to her dream. Much too similar. But even if she had not had that dream, she would be very unwilling to be anywhere else but in his arms, gazing up at him, just like she was right now. Even if she had never had that dream, she imagined that she could easily feel just as vulnerable, her heart caught in her throat, just as she was now. He was that beautiful. Fleetingly, she wondered if his face was as beautiful as it had been in her dream, hovering over hers just before his lips had crashed down to claim hers as his.
Lost in the spell, it was a while before Kakashi blinked and realized where he was, where Sakura was, where the both of them were. Unbeknownst to them, they made a gorgeous sight spread over the vibrant scarlet background; him, strong and undeniably male above her, delicately feminine, her pale pink hair spread over the ground, some entangled over his shoulders as if marking him as her possession. They were so close that his soft, tousled silver hair lightly tickled her forehead. If an artist had captured that very moment, the rendered portrait would be an epitome of two lovers with naught a care in the world, lost in nothing but each other. All that was missing was the classic backdrop of a fiery sunset, casting it’s orange and red tinged glow over the both of them. But any vestige of the artist in Kakashi could only register the beauty below him, her soft hair spread in wild abandon among the clovers, some teasingly brushing against his covered cheek. Her glowing green gaze surreptitiously meeting his beneath a frame of heavy lashes. Her curves deliciously spanning his hard contours. He swallowed. He could feel the hot tendrils of desire beginning to encompass his body. He wondered if she could tell.
As if having a life of it’s own, he could only watch in slow motion as his right hand moved forward and slowly placed itself on her hot cheek. He felt mortified but it was as if his body had taken over and his mind had ceased to be in control of his actions. He observed the slight widening of her bright eyes as his hand was tenderly placed on her left cheek. Her mouth parted slightly. All he could think about was leaning down and claiming it in a slow kiss. His mouth fell open under his mask. He whispered, “Are you alright?” In actual fact, he couldn’t believe that any words managed to escape his throat in the first place. He was as nervous as a thirteen year old on his first date! What was wrong with him?
Sakura’s eyes widened in surprise as the tender gesture registered itself in her mind. She was blushing so hard, she was sure he could feel the heat that was decorating her warm cheeks. She wondered if he could tell that all she was thinking about right now was him. How she wanted to lift her fingers to the edge of his cumbersome mask and tease it off his face to see for herself if he was as beautiful as she had dreamt. To then lift her lips to his and kiss him long and hard. To have him nuzzle her neck and run his hands over her body just like he had in her dream. She swallowed. She felt his voice hum over her skin as he whispered his question hoarsely. If she wasn’t too mortified about her own feelings and reactions, she could almost let herself think that he was as nervous and flustered as she was. Almost. Her traitorous mind was probably playing it’s tricks on her again. She didn’t want to delude herself that he wanted her in any way. That he may care for her in any way other than as his ex-student. She swallowed again before replying huskily, “I-I’m alright. Thank you. For…saving me” She couldn’t believe how flustered she sounded! But her heart skipped as he smiled down at her. She could tell by the crinkling of his eyes. And she just knew. Even more than being aware of his smile, it slowly dawned on her that whatever notion she had had that her feelings for Kakashi in the dream were chanced upon her one hot, balmy night, that very notion was eradicated by the alarming realization that she was fast claiming those strong feelings through to reality. It was unbelievable. Unbelievable. Hardly anything had transpired between them. But she just knew…
Kakashi allowed himself to gaze down at the heavily breathing beauty before him before reluctantly prising himself off of her. He really didn’t want to be anywhere but right there. With Sakura. Entwined. He sighed and continued peeling himself off her, albeit achingly slowly. He wanted to prolong the inevitable as best he could. Anyone could come across them. Naruto and Sasuke might well notice the both of them lying in a less than seemly manner on a field of clovers under the bright blue sky. ‘Naruto and Sasuke!,’ he remembered, his eyes widening as reality began seeping through his hazy mind. As if the same thought that had struck him had continued throttling it’s way into her mind as well, Sakura’s eyes widened in conjunction with his. As if scalded, both leapt away from the other, breathing heavily. Luckily, Naruto and Sasuke didn’t seem to notice as they were both sprawled on the same field of clovers, eyes closed and oblivious to the world in a rare moment of serenity. It was as if fate had conspired as best as it could in ensuring that he and Sakura had the world to themselves for that one precious moment. Or maybe what had felt like aeons had only lasted in the few seconds that Naruto and Sasuke had both decided to rest their eyes. Kakashi ran a hand through his tousled mane of silver hair. Something was definitely changing inside him. Hardly anything had changed between the both of them, hardly anything had happened, but he could admit to himself that he was probably on his way to falling in love with her. Shit.
