--Sasuke’s Apartment--
A stiff Sasuke answered the door with a simple, “Hello Aniki.” Itachi inwardly smirked at his little brother. ‘He doesn’t appear to be happy to see me.’ He noted sadistically. Noticing that Sasuke wasn’t about to invite him in anytime soon, Itachi asked wryly, “Aren’t you going to invite your only big brother in your apartment or are we going to have our conversation on your doorstep?” Hissing slightly, Sasuke stepped farther back into the room to admit his brother in, and didn’t fail to notice the slight smirk on Itachi’s face. Proceeding into the small living room like he belonged there more than the actual resident of the apartment, Itachi let his mind wander, idly noticing the lack of decoration. “Really Sasuke, you could do a little decorating. It’s not a crime to show people that come into your home that you actually have a personality beyond the ‘I’m-living-freezer-burn’ mask you always wear.”
“Shut up Itachi and tell me what it is that you came here for.” Sasuke snarled viciously. He was not in the mood to see his brother. Being around Sakura all last night had seriously worn down his patience. “You really should relax dear little brother. You might burst a blood vessel or something if you keep stressing like you are.” Itachi said softly staring at Sasuke in sick amusement. Glaring, Sasuke huffed then plopped down on his evil couch. ‘It’s still not as evil as him.’ The younger of the two thought idly. “Well get to the point aniki. I have other things to be doing.”
Chuckling, Itachi muttered, “Always so impatient. Alright. The reason I’m here is because I want to be. I need someone to annoy and who better than you, Sasuke.” Itachi stood waiting for Sasuke’s response. ‘Oh this is going to be so good.’
Eye twitching in irritation, Sasuke stared at the man that looked so similar to him. The only difference? Itachi’s hair was longer and his eyes were blood red. ‘Sharingan.’ “Dammit Itachi. Be serious.” He growled. “I am.” His brother replied coldly. Everything about his brother was so cold. His voice, his eyes, his face… Even though Sasuke remembered his past life unlike everyone else, he still couldn’t figure out how his brother had attained the Magenkyou Sharingan in this lifetime. Itachi had gained it last time by murdering his best friend and the clan. ‘What did he do this time around?’
--Downtown,11:36am--
Gaara had been drawn out his reminiscing by Naruto loudly proclaiming that he wanted to go downtown and get some more ramen and stop at the local bookstore. Yes. Naruto does indeed like to read. Throughout his life he had been branded an idiot for his loud voice and joking demeanor, but Gaara knew the truth. Behind Naruto’s mask of stupidity was an intelligent boy who had been shunned his entire life, just like Gaara himself.
**12 years ago, shortly after Gaara and Naurto first met**
Ever since Gaara had first met the blonde boy Naruto, he had followed him around watching quietly. It had been nearly a month and Gaara had noticed how when their caretakers would look over they would always throw hateful glances at Naruto. At first he had thought that the looks had been meant for him, but then he began to notice that he adults tended to ignore him when Nartuo wasn’t around. When Naruto was alone they’d sneer and make make not-so-quiet comments about the blonde when he was within hearing distance. The blonde would simply ignore them, thus making the bastards insults become more biting.
‘Why does he ignore them?’ Gaara had asked himself one day after listening to their ‘caretakers’ badmouth his Naruto. ‘Wait. Did I just think my Naruto?’ Shaking his head to dispel the thoughts, he got out of his bed with the intention of getting the answers to his questions from Naruto himself. It was nighttime so he had to be extra careful not to be heard. After seeing that the two boys got along well, the lady in charge had decided to put Naruto in a room all by himself far from where Gaara’s room was located. At first it hadn’t bothered the red head to much, but as the days went by and he became more accustomed to the blondes soothing presence he began to become angrier at the adults for placing his only friend so far away from him.
Quickly, Gaara padded from his end of the corridor to the end that Naruto was located at. Opening the door, he stepped into the moonlit room cautiously, only to stop wide-eyed at the breathtaking sight before him. Naruto sat on his bed, which was situated near the window, staring out of said window. The moonlight outside seemed to make his sun-kissed skin glow ethereally, his hair fell about his face making his azure eyes stand out starkly. All in all, he had an unearthly glow about him that made him seem even more like the angel that Gaara had prayed for for so long. “Naruto…” he murmured aloud without realizing it. Suddenly, those beautiful eyes turned and stared into his. Pain. The boy’s eyes were so full of hidden pain.
“Gaara-kun. What’s wrong?” Naruto asked quietly, his concern for his only friend etched into his face. Gaara was so lost in Naruto’s eyes that he failed to notice that the boy had moved from his perch on the bed and was now standing in front of Gaara, a small tan hand settling on his cheek stroking softly. Blushing furiously, Gaara turned his face away from Naruto, or at least he tried to. Seeing that Gaara was going to look away, Naruto had caught his chin and turned the face to look at him. Again he asked, “What’s wrong?”
Gaara wanted to asked how he was able to ignore the glares, how he acted so happy even though all the people whispered harsh words about him. All that came out was a broken sob before he collapsed brokenly upon the ground before Naruto’s feet. For the first time in his life he cried in front of another person, not worried about said person trying to hurt him. Why did he feel so safe, so happy around Naruto? He wouldn’t find the real answer to that question for another couple of years, but for now he was content to think that it was because Naruto was his only friend.
Caught of guard by his friend’s sudden show of blatant emotion, Naruto did the only thing that came to mind. He knelt by Gaara’s side and wrapped his arms around the larger boy’s shoulders, pulling Gaara’s head into his chest. “Don’t worry Gaara.” Naruto murmured in the boy’s ear. “I’ll always be your friend. I’ll never leave you and I’ll never treat you like they do.” He promised fiercely. He continued to stroke Gaara’s back until he had quieted and then he guided the larger boy to the bed where they both fell asleep.
**end flashback**
Naruto stared at Gaara for a few minutes before he got annoyed and started to poke him. ‘He looks kinda glazed… like a donut… well it’s better than him being powdered.’ Snickering evilly at his thoughts, Naruto began to steer Gaara into a really girly store. If Gaara wasn’t going to pay attention to his surroundings than he was going to be punished, and what was better than shoving into a store that was pink and frilly? ‘Nothing! That’s what.’ Unfortunately, for Naruto, Gaara seemed to come out of his daze and turned instantly in the other direction, practically running away. “Where are you going?” Naruto called after him, cat catching up easily. Huffing indignantly Gaara answered with his trademark ‘I’m-looking-for-a-place-that-practices-Satanic-rituals-so-I-can-curse-you’ glare. Cackling maniacally, Naruto followed him to their favorite store.
--Downtown (Sakura)--
Groaning softly, Sakura glared at the little children that were present, silently curing their parents for bringing the brats along. ‘Maybe I shouldn’t have gotten up so early.’ Last night had been a complete disaster. Not only had Sasuke ignored her, but then Neji had started hitting on him. ‘And Sasuke blushed! Dammit, I’ve never seen him do anything except look like he had a forest-or three- jammed up his ass!’ So in order to calm her nerves, Sakura had gotten dressed and stormed out of her house to do some comfort shopping.
She was being so pissy and snarly that she wasn’t watching where she was going and walked face first into someone. Seeing as she had been knocked to the ground, she glared up into the face of the offender. Her eyes widened as she took in the sight before her. Azure blue eyes that sparkled mischievously, golden hair that shone in the sunlight, and glowing sun-kissed skin filled her vision. “Hey! Are you okay?” The stranger asked worriedly offering their hand to the unspeaking girl. Taking the hand, Sakura pulled herself up, all the while staring at the boy-she could tell because of the voice. ‘Oh my… He’s gorgeous!’ Inner Sakura squealed happily. “Um… I’m fine. Sorry, I wasn’t watching where I was going.” She blushed prettily at the concerned look on his face. “Come on Naruto. Let’s go.” Another voice said quietly. Sakura looked around the blonde to see another drop-dead gorgeous boy behind him. “Chill out Gaara. We don’t really have any other plans today so we don’t have to hurry.” The one named Naruto said happily. Gaara grunted and looked at the girl in slight annoyance. Turning back to face Sakura Naruto beamed at her. “I’m glad you’re okay. I wasn’t watching where I was going either.” He lifted his hand and began scratching the back of his head. “Anyways, I’m Naruto,” he jerked his head in the direction of his companion. “And that’s Gaara.” Shaking her head as if to physically clear her mind she smiled sexily at Naruto. “My name is Sakura. It’s nice to meet both you and Gaara.”
Glaring daggers at the pink haired girl, Gaara was having an argument with his conscience. ‘Dammit. Why is that girl still here? And talking with my Naruto!’ He wanted nothing more than to snarl at the girl and then drag the blonde away. ‘But if I did that then Naruto would get mad at me.’ That was the last thing that Gaara wanted. A pissed off Naruto was a very scary Naruto. He also didn’t like the idea of being locked out of their apartment and having to go back to their adopted mother’s house. The evil hag would never let him it down. She was still laughing about the last time it happened. Turning his head back to the girl he decided not to say anything… yet.
Naruto smiled happily at the girl and offered to keep her company while she was shopping. Sakura was, of course, happy. ‘Score! I got two hot guys to go shopping with me!’ Inner Sakura crowed happily. “Okay then! Let’s get started!” The girl cried. Turning on her heel, Sakura began leading them to her favorite store, which-luckily for Gaara- wasn’t full of pink things.
--Sasuke’s Apartment—
Two hours. His brother had been there for two fuckin’ hours! The entire time Itachi had been making snide comments about Sasuke’s lack of interior decorating skills and some other things that he had been trying his best to ignore. “Look, I know you’re here for something other than the pleasure of annoying me to death. Get to the point!” Sasuke finally snarled. “Tch… took you long enough little brother. I’m here because I saw something interesting.” Itachi replied calmly. ‘Something I think you’ll be very glad to here about. You have been searching for a long time.’
Sasuke was very skeptical that brother had seen anything that would interest him. ‘Hmph… he’s probably talking about some perverted book he has just finished reading.’ (AN: Heh… Itachi is a perv.) “Well? What was it that you found so interesting that caused you to come here and cause me to waste a chunk of my life?” Sasuke ground out, all the while staring at his brother warily.
Itachi chuckled softly. ‘And now the real fun begins little brother.’ He looked into his brother’s eyes and said in an amused voice. “I found your Naruto.”
TBC…
I know it seems like I’m spending a lot of time on Gaara and Naruto and I’m sorry about it. I have taken the first steps in my trip of reuniting Naruto with Sasuke, so don’t be too angry. I have a feeling that this story is going to be very long and very angsty. Sorry. Anyone who thought I was crazy for writing that Sasuke’s couch was possessed by fairies, well… It’s a joke between my friend ‘Creampuff’ and I. Also, the whole donut thing is another one of our jokes. When you’re a ‘glazed’ donut you’re drunk. And when you’re a ‘powdered’ donut you’re on crack or some other drug. So yea. It’s funny to me and my friends and that’s all that matters. That’s all I have to comment on for now so… please review.
