Two Weeks
Neji had now been away for two weeks. He, Kiba and Shikamaru were deep within the mountains of another country. It was a dangerous place and everyone needed to remain alert. It was night time and the three of them were completely exhausted from being ambushed earlier that day. Neji was lying on his back under the stars. His dark hair was spread out underneath him. He was transfixed on the sky above him. Shikamaru joined him.
“You haven’t said 20 words since our ambush. What’s wrong with you?” he asked.
“Nothing. I’m just tired.” Neji said dully.
“No, that’s not it. Tell me.” Shikamaru laid down beside him.
“Have you ever found some sort of closure in your life, only to have something happen to try and take it away?” Shikamaru looked at Neji.
“Neji, get to the point, you’re troublesome.” He said.
“Hokage called me on this mission…I had to leave Ten Ten.” Neji told him. Shikamaru looked at Neji.
“It’s something you’re going to have to get used to. I’ve already left Temari four times, not to mention she doesn’t even live in Konoha.” Neji rose up to his elbows.
“Temari?” he asked “The sand ninja?”
“Yeah, I’ve been seeing her for four months. Of those four months, I’ve been called out for two of those months.” Shikamaru told him. It was easy for Shikamaru to say. He had never had the isolation and hatred that Neji had experienced most of his life. Of course, Shikamaru also had a point that Neji should be thankful for the fact that he had Ten Ten near him. At this point, Neji was slightly shocked to learn of Shikamaru and Temari.
“Wait…you’re with the sand ninja?” he asked him.
“Yeah.” Shikamaru smiled. “Cheer up, Neji. We’ll come back from this mission. You’ll be with her again; just like I’ll see Temari again. Neji knew that for the sake of his teammates, he needed to remain in high spirits. He didn’t want to hurt the moral of this mission and so he decided instead of continually wanting to suppress his pain, he would simply talk to Shikamaru about the one thing that they had in common.
“So…Shikamaru, you have a girlfriend. I have a girlfriend. Are you a virgin?” This caught Shikamaru off guard. He slowly squinted his eyes looking at Neji.
“You tell me first.” Shikamaru said.
“I’m not.” Neji answered him.
“Well, neither am I. I would have told you, but I wanted to hear you say it first.” Shikamaru said. Neji couldn’t help but smile.
“Well…if you tell…I’ll tell.” Neji said to him. The only way to ease the agony of missing Ten Ten…was to talk about what they did together. Shikamaru looked at Neji again.
“Okay, I’ll go first since I made you answer our previous question.” Shikamaru rolled over to his side. He proceeded to tell Neji about the first time with Temari. “You know, I felt bad, I mean I felt really bad because she cried. I don’t really know why she cried, but she did.” Shikamaru said. He looked down at the ground.
“You mean like after the fact?” Neji asked.
“No like during it. She had big tears in her eyes…yet she would never admit that it hurt. It’s just a guess that she was crying because it hurt.”
“Ten Ten didn’t cry, but she moaned like crazy. I mean she didn’t at first, she cringed at first….she was an angel.” Neji’s voice seemed to drift off. This conversation was the best therapy for both of them. It honestly put Neji at the most ease he had been in the whole trip, because at least now he knew that Shikamaru would understand how he felt.
Meanwhile, back in Konoha Ten Ten sat with Hinata at the hospital.
“Where is she!” Hinata demanded of Ten Ten. Ten Ten laughed at her impatience.
“Don’t worry, she’ll be here.” Hinata waited impatiently on Shizune. She finally came into the examining room.
“Well, your physical condition is fine. There’s no reason you can’t start the pill immediately.”
“Yesssss!” Hinata went wild. “Oh! Shizune you have no idea what this is going to do for my sex life!” Hinata practically hugged Shizune until she was blue in the face. When Shizune handed Hinata the small pale orange pills, Hinata felt as if Shizune had handed her some holy grail. “Shizune, this will never get back to my parents, right? My dad would completely flip! Completely!” Shizune and Ten Ten laughed at her. “This is serious stuff! My father would kill me if he finds out about this! Then he would kill Naruto!”
“Relax, Hinata. This is between you, me and Ten Ten.” Shizune reassured her as she scribbled some notes onto Hinata’s medical chart. Be certain to call if you have any side effects that bother you. Hinata was thrilled with her new prize. She walked out of the hospital with Ten Ten accompanying her. It had been a long two weeks for Ten Ten, even though Hinata had helped pass the time. However, there were still two more weeks ahead of her.
