Conflictions
A/N:Hey all, back with the fourth chapter of this story. ^_^ Got random German music pulsating in my ears, so I feel this might be a bit angsty. Sorry if that is so.
Chapter 4: Conflictions
His breathing shortened as he stared at the green bruise on his side. He didn't know if he could deal with it, the pain burning deeply into his bones. Naruto... His eyes glazed over as he thought back to when Naruto had saved him. The boy was so sweet when he did that, feeling as though Sasuke was saved only because of him.
That was the case, but Sasuke felt as though he would be killed by his own actions long before Naruto would ever know. Orochimaru, you bastard. A sharp intake of breath as he stared out at the walls. He could only sense the curse back upon him. But that made him laugh, his thirst for his brother's blood had finally caught up with him, trying to make it that he would pay for all those years of wanting death, wanting vengence for his masacred family.
Yet his thoughts continued to drift back to Naruto. The blonde who so foolishly had gotten himself into this whole mess, when he could have left Sasuke there to die. He had been so ruthless to him before, and still after. The laughter started to die down, as his eyes drooped in sadness, the fact that he had been cold to the one who saved him hurt his soul.
His vision blurred as his eyes watered. Conflicted inside with rivalries and friendships, along with the words that Naruto had screamed at him when he was held by the ANBU. "I LOVE YOU SASUKE!" Shaking his head, he covered the bruise on his side with another part of his shirt, not wanting Naruto to suspect anything. He couldn't let Naruto feel as though he was going to die, even if he wasn't. It was his duty to keep things good between them, but that shattered with those same words that had shocked him.
It seemed that the boundaries of love extended over the lines of friendship, and he couldn't help but sigh at that fact. He himself cared for the child a lot, but could never come to terms with that fact. He looked at Naruto as just a rival, and a friend, nothing more. He always felt as though love didn't matter when it came to life, that it only slowed you down.
But the fact that he couldn't shake the fact that he did have feelings for Naruto made him saddened and even more conflicted. Naruto....you had to make things worse for me, didn't you... He coudln't help but feel as though he was letting his friend down by hiding his feelings. Coldness was all he knew, but that made him think back to Naruto and Sakura's friendship with him. He had to grow close to them to be able to get past the chuunin exams.
He wondered if Naruto could show him love, as he did friendship. It was only a matter of time in his eyes, when Naruto would figure out that he was never cold to him on purpose. Images of the young blonde flashed by his eyes, all the stupid things he'd done just to keep up with Sasuke, and now even going to try and bring him back from Orochimaru. It made him smile a bit, as he forgot about his woes. He could just hear Naruto talking to the hokage about getting him back.
"I will get him back, Hakage-sama. BELIEVE IT!" He pumped his fist out, and smiled his fox smile, all the while keeping an uppity attitude.
Shaking his head as he smiled at the walss around him. He decided that he would finally show Naruto how he cared for him. No more coldness between the both. No, he couldn't take it now, because he felt as though he needed love right now. The thought of him always being a traitor in the eyes of all the Fire Country made him saddened in a way Naruto would never know. He felt as though he would be all alone again, but when Naruto showed his face, he was hapy. Happy that at least someone didn't give up on him so easily.
So deep in thought, he didn't even hear Naruto grunting, as he carried a box of things that he had brought back from Konoha Village. Naruto blinked a few times as he looked at the small smile on the boy's face in front of him. "Um... Sasuke?" He questioned the raven-haired boy, as he struggled to keep his breath from leaving him.
Broken out of his constant warring with himself, he always fell backwards at the sight of Naruto in front of him. "N-Naruto..." He blinked back at the blonde who sighed.
"Are you going to help me or not? Kakashi-sensei said he wouldn't say a word of us here, but he would try to get our names cleared." That fox smile returned ot Naruto's face, making Sasuke chuckle. It always made him smile whenever he saw it. Thinking back, he remembered that even when both were about to die by the hands of Haku, he had that smile on his face, always keeping that uppity attitude in the darkest of situations.
Forgetting the question almost entirely, it took Naruto to ask him again for him to respond. "Oh.. yeah I will." He stood up, hiding the wince of pain from his side, and started to look through the box that Naruto had. Hammers, wood pieces, saws, and scrolls. Lots and lots of scrolls were in the box, making Sasuke blink at Naruto.
"We need something to do, Sasuke." He chuckled. "Cause it will be a while that we're going to be here." Handing the box to Sasuke, he called outside for them to come in.
Sakura and Kakashi both walked through the door, blinking as they saw Sasuke for the first time in months. The woman's eyes almost fell out of her sockets as they bulged. Tears were already streaming down her face as she knew that her Sasuke was alright. "So Naruto was right, Sasuke is here." Kakashi's voice spooked Sasuke, making him drop the box.
"DOBE! I told you no one was suppose to know about us being here!" His anger started to rise, as he stared at the two people who had found out that Sasuke was still alive and back in the Fire Country. Naruto chuckled nervously as he sighed.
Kakashi walked over to Sasuke as he put a hand on his shoulder. "It wasn't him who invited us. We sort of followed even when Naruto said no." That smirk, it could even be seen underneath the mask that the jounin wore. Sasuke's anger ebbed a bit, as looked at his former sensei. "Anyways, if you want to live in this place, it needs to be fixed up right!" Kakashi chuckled as he looked at Sakura. "We can help with that, making it go faster."
Sakura nodded before she produced a basket from behind her. "I also brought a basket of food for you guys for the first few days, since I know you probably wouldn't have any food here." She blushed as Sasuke's hand crossed hers to take the basket from her grasp. "And I'll come by every once and a while to get food." She looked at Kakashi, who chuckled.
"But what about the town.. won't they realize that you left there?" Sasuke questioned, a bit worried at the fact that now all of Team 7 was in one place again.
"Thank Naruto for a little trick I saw. Shadow clones of us are in the village still, and Sakura was carried by me to increase her speed, so I doubt they know where we are at the moment." His hand rubbed the back of his neck as Kakashi smirked again. "So I have things taken care of."
Naruto smiled at everyone, before he punched the air in front of him. "We're going to be safe Sasuke, BELIEVE IT!" That fox smile returned, making Sasuke smile again, letting the worries die down for now.
He could only chuckle at th eyoung blonde, before he turned to Kakashi and Sakura. "I have one thing to ask though. Don't come here that often." His eyes showed worry again, but a different kind of worry. "Only when Naruto or myself come and get you alright?"
"But..." Sakura was about to speak up, when Sasuke gave her the famous Uchiha death glare that meant drop the subject now and accept the terms. She understood, as she sighed.
"Well are we going to make this place liveable or not?" The grey-haired man asked the group. "Because if so, we need to do so before nightfall."
They all nodded, and started to get working on the place, fixing up old holes in the woodwork and such. All the while, Sasuke was formulating a plan for that evening, to finally confess to Naruto about what he was thinking while the blonde was seraching for their formeer sensei.
