Half the Size of a Dime
~Half the Size of a Dime~
To Sasuke's great displeasure, Ryuu had been right about his tenure in the hospital. He had to spend two to three more weeks in St. Kagome's--along with rehab, making Naruto promise to visit him everyday. You could only imagine how beautifully Sasuke's face lit up upon hearing his blond teammate's footsteps into a room...while one of the nurses would suffer the unholy wrath of the bed-ridden Uchiha.
During one of the uglier episodes, Naruto had to protect one of them, strapping Sasuke to the bed while the timid young woman injected him with some ridulously thick needle. Other days, when Sakura and Sango would visit, Sasuke would be so vindictive, so verbally abuse to those girls, that they would leave his room exploding in tears! ...And all the while, he would be swooning over Naruto, that newly-acquired smile curled on his lips.
::Tsunade's Office::
The buxom blonde stared begrudgingly at the mountain of paperwork on her desk, awaiting her. Tsunade rubbed her temples, trying to ignore the headache hammering inside her skull. The hangover was taking its toll. Dear god, if she could only afford to take a nap...Before she was able to sit down, she heard a tiny fist knock at the thick mahogany of her door.
"Ugh...Come in."
In sauntered a lavender-haired male with deeply faceted eyes and medic-nin garb. The heavy lines around those eyes indicated that he hadn't been sleeping lately.
"Tsunade-sama? I hope I'm not bothering you, but...I've brought my report on the Uchiha boy."
"Hm? Oh, Arigato, Akira-san..."
The Dragon handed his superior the folders of MRIs, pictures, graphs, and whatever intricate detail he refused to leave untouched. Tsunade skimmed through them, allowing the details to encompass her mind and shrink the headache that was plaguing her. One specific detail in the report piqued her interest especially...She set the folders on her desk.
"Akira...You said in your report that you've seen a tremendous change to Sasuke's personality."
"I did. During...my brief shifts as his caretaker, I've noticed how...erm, differently he behaves around Naruto. Sasuke is affectionate, expresses his thanks for the boy, says he loves him..."
"What about his other teammates?"
"He exhibits hostility towards them. Sasuke doesn't want the girls near him. Once, I had to drag Haruno-san away from his room."
Tsunade sighed, leaning back into her chair while the young Dragon continued:
"I remember his serjury perfectly. While I was alleviating the blood loss to his brain...I noticed an absess about half the size of a dime on the occipital lobe. I DID remove it, but...do you think there's some correlation between Sasuke's new behavior and the absence of that wound?"
"There might--did you examine it, by any chance?"
"Ah! No." Akira replied, rather abashed. "...Why?"
Tsunade groaned at her student's negligence and lack of judgement. She *knew* she should have performed Sasuke's serjury...The Dragon was blind! Pathologically AND logic-wise. Jesus...
"Because, Akira, if that *abcess* had--never mind! Now, who else was over-seeing Sasuke's operation?"
"Um, Shizune-sempai was--"
A sharp snarl wrinkled Tsunade's nostrils.
"Akira, if you want to redeem yourself, then I suggest you bring her here. NOW. I am in NO mood to tolerate your incompetance!"
Fearing the rage that awaited him, the young Dragon scurried off to find his colleague. The old woman rubbed her temples as she had before. Stress was accumulating in her life once more. And the headache had come back.
