Remember

"I remember how the harsh wind had stopped but the cold was still sending spikes of ice into my soul. I felt like someone had stabbed me in the heart."

Hinata started to slip on her winter shoes feeling her feet become frozen in an instant. With each breath she took steam escaped from her lips sending up small puffs of air. She knew she had to hurry, someone would see her and start to ask questions. Knowing better then saying she would be asking a clan outsider for help, her best bet was to leave the compound unnoticed.

Giving her shoes a tap fitting them snug, Hinata rose to her feet giving a last look around and headed for the gate. Putting her hands in her pockets her she began to wiggle her fingers trying to get some feeling back into them. "I wish it wasn't so cold," she whispered.

Burying her face into her jacket Hinata closed her eyes shivering with each step. As she was about to be home free a figure stepped in front of her path. Not being able to see them clearly in the distant Hinata kept her head down coving her eyes with her bangs.

As she got closer to the figure Hinata she only lowered her head further. Her body began to shake from another reason, and she truly didn't want a confrontation.

"Hinata-sama...were are you going at such an hour." That was it, she had been caught, she stopped dead in her tracks only to live her head to see who was speaking to her.

"Oh my god! Neji-nii-san!" She squeaked, this was the last person she wanted to speak with.

"Hinata-sama what are you doing out at this hour," Neji's voice became more stern and forceful. Peering up and trying to speak Hinata could see Neji had been training, he must have just finished.

"Darn my luck," she cried to herself. "Well...Neji-nii-sama, I have..." she took a big swallow, "I have a mission!" She lied..she knew she wasn't a good liar, especially not to Neji.

"You don't have your backpack or your pouch, that is a bold faced lie, Hinata-sama," Neji glared at her, he was mad and Hinata knew she shouldn't have lied. "And to second that, you can't leave the compound without an escort. Since you are going to be the new Heiress it is forbidden." Neji crossed his arms leaning against the wall of the exit.

"It is not! I am allowed to leave.." Hinata put her hands into fists feeling herself tense up. "You can't give me orders and this is none of your concern," Hinata screamed feeling sweat and tears run down her face. With that she made a mad dash for the exit. But Neji was faster and stopped her dead in her tracks.

Stepping back Hinata put her hands to her face bitting her bottom lip. This was it, he wasn't going to let her leave. What he was going to do to her was the question that fluttered in her mind. She didn't like confrontations to begin with but one with Neji had to be even more horrible then with her father.

"Hinata-sama, why...why do you always run?" Neji's voice and tone had softened. Hinata looked up unsure of what she heard. Looking into her cousin's eyes she could see all his emotions flooding out. Neji was truly for the first time ever wore his heart on his sleeve.

"Don't you trust..." Neji stepped back, "I know why you don't trust me anymore and I am truly sorry for the harm I put you in. I know it was my job to protect you, yet all I wanted to hurt you. The wounds have healed but the emotional ones haven't even after 3 years time," His words were soft, his emotion was weak. "I know why you trust him, why you believe in him and most of all how he makes you feel. I am sorry Hinata-sama."

Stepping to the side letting Hinata go as she pleased, Hinata finally saw it. Neji's true feelings, true emotions all this came out of no where.

"Its not what you think Neji-nii-sama. I am just going to speak..with a friend of mine. And it is true, I don't know how to trust you yet. But I do finally understand your feelings." Warmth melted over Hinata's body, her cousin had truly come to care for her. His vendetta for her end was over and this made her emotional scars start to close up around her heart for good.
