Wow the fourth chapter already. I know I took pretty long but I didn't know how to 'rescue' Sasuke
since I had a lot of ideas and I couldn't decide on one. Well here is the result. And again thanks

Like always not beta-ed.

Chapter 4: The way home

A light and gentle breeze was currently blowing over the lake, rippling its surface. The chirping of birds and all the other noises which could be heard in a forest have long died down, since it was already past midnight. Sasuke sat on the ground with his back leaning against the trunk of the Sakura tree, slender eyebrows furrowed in a frown, thinking hard. He thought about what he should do next. It was clear to him, that aimlessly running through the forest would only drain him out and make his situation even worse. But sitting here in this godforsaken place and waiting for Kakashi or his teammates or some other person from Konoha to show up was equally useless. He wasn't even sure if they have noticed that he was obviously missing.

Running a pale hand through his dark hair, the Uchiha let out a frustrated sigh. Violating his brain with too much thinking was getting him nowhere. So the raven-haired male got up from his sitting position, stretching his sore muscles to work out some kinks. As soon as he stood straight, his stomach gave an angry growl. 'Great, I'm not only lost but also at the verge of starving.' Sasuke thought annoyed. Deciding to find at least something to eat, Sasuke made his way to the surrounding forest.

Whilst the brooding teen was wandering through the forest he made a sign with his Kunai at a tree trunk then and there so he would find his way back to the ancient lake. He wasn't called a genius for nothing. After traveling for almost fifteen minutes, the Uchiha came to a small clearing. The space was perfect for taking a break. He slowly looked around the area in search for firewood. When he found some dried twigs near a bush, he made his way over there. After Sasuke collected the needed wood he arranged them in a small pile on the ground. Finally he used one of his Kanton no Jutsus to lit the fire. Now he needed to find something to eat.

He let his dark eyes roam over the small area until they fell on a small brown rabbit which just jumped out of a bush. He hid himself behind a nearby tree, digging a pale hand into his weapon pouch to fish out one of his Shuriken, as he waited for the right moment to attack. As soon as the animal lifted its head, Sasuke threw the Shuriken with deadly speed at his target before it could move away, hitting the poor thing dead on.

The onyx-eyed male made his way to the dead rabbit. He bent down to collect the animal and made his way back to the fire. As he sit down in a cross-legged fashion, he began to remove the Shuriken sticking out of the animal's furred back, placing it beside him. Using a Kunai from his weapon pouch, he began to skin the dead creature carefully while trying not to ruin his white kimono with the rabbit's blood. After he was done with his task, the raven-haired male used one of the twigs he had gathered to stick it through the rabbit, placing it above the fire.

Then he took a scroll out of his pouch and undid the seal with a few hand signs. In a poof of smoke, a small water bottle appeared before him. The Uchiha used the water to wash the blood from his hands and to clean his dirtied weapons. Now that he was finished with his tasks, Sasuke took the remaining time till his meal was cooked to think about his current situation. The Uchiha didn't know if he should go back to the lake and wait there till someone showed up (which wouldn't be anytime soon) or if he should actually try to find his way back on his own. The rational part of Sasuke's brain told him just to stay where he was and wait until one of Kakashi's dog's would eventually find him, whilst the other part, which was currently getting more persistent, told him to screw it and get the hell out of here.

An alarming scent, which was infiltrating his nostrils brought Sasuke out of his train of thoughts and he glanced over to his supposed meal, to see that is was almost burned. Removing his meal from the fire before it would be burned completely, he ate it as fast as he could, not caring about manners, so the Chuunin wouldn't notice its bitter taste. Finishing his meal with a gulp from his water bottle, Sasuke got up, ready to leave this place. He re-sealed the water bottle in a scroll and gathered up his cleaned weapons and made his way into the unknown forest.

A light rustling of leaves and the sound of footsteps could be heard as a golden haired boy and a small reddish fox were currently running through the dark forest. The fox was carrying two rabbits in his jaw whilst the boy had basket full of strawberries in his arms. /Well I would say this was a successful hunt./ said the blue-eyed male grinning like an idiot. Kyuubi just rolled his eyes at him but said nothing. When they reached their home at the lake, they both knew that something was wrong – or to be more precisely - missing.

Naruto halted in his tracks and looked at his companion with a frown. /Well it seems the brat left./ remarked the fox dryly. The boy just frowned more at that and a worried expression graced the scarred face. /But it's to soon! He doesn't even know where he is!/ answered the blond fox with concern. /What do you mean with *to soon*? You healed him and that was all we could do for him. By the way it wasn't our business from the beginning./ replied Kyuubi calmly. /But he will get lost and what if those Shinobi who have attacked him before will show up again? We can't just leave him like that!/ and with that said the blue-eyed male turned on his heals and started running into the forest. /Hey Naruto! Where the hell do you think you're going?!/ shouted the red fur ball and trailed after his friend. /Isn't obvious? I'm going to find him and bring him back home./ Naruto replied calmly, following the scent of the dark-haired boy he had rescued not to long ago. Kyuubi's eyes widened at that and he wanted to say something back but Naruto cut him off /Don't worry I won't reveal myself to him./ he reassured his friend and speed up his pace. The fox let out a annoyed sigh but said nothing and continued following his master. 'One day that stupid brat is going to be the death of me.' he thought angrily and they both vanished into the shadows of the forest.

Sasuke thought he would go insane after he passed the same tree he had marked with his Kunai for the third time. 'This can't be happening this is the third time I've run in a circle.' He thought frustrated. 'There has to be a way out of this damn forest!' The Uchiha continued to travel through the forest in search of signs of from teammates. 'If only I would be in the part of the forest I know about...and damn what the hell is Kakashi doing? Aren't they going to search for me? Or have they already forgotten about me?' he seethed. The dark-haired male looked around the trees, trying to find any hints or signs that would reveal his whereabouts but he head no such luck. He came to a halt when he saw for a fourth time the marked tree.

“GOD DAMN IT!” he screamed and rammed his fist into the trunk before he sank to the ground. He closed his onyx eyes and leaned his forehead against the rough surface of the tree and took deep breaths to calm himself down. 'Calm down Sasuke you're an Uchiha and they don't panic...If Aniki would see you like this, he would tease you endlessly about it and laugh his fucking ass of.' Sasuke thought with a snort. After he calmed down he tried to think of a plan. Running around aimlessly had proven to be a waste of time (and energy) and just managed to frustrate him more, so now he had to formulate a plan. He was an Uchiha after all. As Sasuke was about to get up again, he heard a rustle of leaves.

With lightning speed he reached into his weapon pouch, graping a Kunai and threw it at the direction of the sound. When the Uchiha heard nothing besides the Kunai embedding itself into the ground, he turned around and saw a small golden fox with sapphire blue eyes and a read spiral on its forehead. For a long time the Sharingan-wielder could only but stare at the small creature. He head never seen a fox like this, since the color of its fur and eyes were more than exotic. The kit just stared back at him as if it was waiting for something.

Then suddenly the yellow fur ball jumped on a tree branch and nudged his head to the side, as if to say 'follow me' and looked back at the dark-haired teen. Sasuke didn't know what to do first but as if he was pulled by a unknown force, he began to follow the small fox. They jumped from tree branch to tree branch at a fast pace, so that everything was just a blur. 'Great I didn't even realize that I was that desperate to follow some stupid fox which will probably guide me farther away from Konoha.' the raven thought after they continued to travel what seemed like forever. If Sasuke wouldn't be so caught up in his thoughts, he would have noticed the small burst of Chakra from the golden fox before him and that the creature's blue eyes flashed red for a second.

After a couple more minutes the fox stopped and landed gracefully on the ground, Sasuke closely behind him. The Uchiha's eyes widened and his jaw almost dropped at the sight before him. There just before him were the massive walls of Konohagakure. The raven continued to stare until he heard someones scream. He looked up to see a pink blur and was pulled into a bone crushing hug.

“Oh my god Sasuke-kun, you're alive!” cried Sakura happily into his chest. The black-haired teen snapped out of his trance and wrapped his arms around the trembling girl.

“Shh...Sakura it's okay calm down.” He soothed her while rubbing her back in small circles. He saw other people approaching him, like Kakashi and Sai, which seemed relieved as well. After a while Sakura released him and smiled.

“Glad you made it home Otouto.” came a smooth voice and Sasuke turned to the right to see his brother Itachi, who was smiling at him, as well. And Sasuke realized for the first time, that he was safe...and home.

Hidden behind a tree a golden-haired boy with blue eyes with an orange fox beside him was smiling broadly before he vanished into the forest.
