Kind of Perfect Ch 4 Pt. 1
Title: Kind of Perfect
Pairings this chapter: NaruxSasu,
Authors: Geia and Zen
Geia: sooo sorry for the delay on my end. Finals, midterms, and studying stole all my time from me and all I could do was play appropriate scenes in my mind to see how they worked.
Chapter 4 pt. 1
Tsunade frowned down at the papers covering her desk. Reports, requests and other paperwork most aspiring young Ninja took for granted but that needed to be done. Naruto was the worst though. He seemed to think that being Hokage meant you could do whatever you wanted whenever you wanted however you wanted to do it. He really believed he would be Hokage too, with all his raw talent he could be considered when the time came. No that's a disturbing thought.
The generously endowed woman looked at her assistant and sighed. Early morning and Shizune was as awake and energetic as any of the trainees in the Academy. And she seemed to take a perverse joy in keeping the Hokage's desk covered with all the most tedious tasks she could find.
The morning was bright and fresh after the previous day’s rains, a good omen for the farmers on the growing season, which lead to another issue. Konoha's fields were being plagued by insects. Last year two fields had to be burned to prevent the spread of an unusual sickness that caused white growth on the roots of the afflicted plants. This year the surviving fields and the replanted ones were showing signs of insect damage.
A knock on the wide doors to Tsunade's office broke her train of thought and she looked up from another bland report on the progress made by this years promising rookies.
"Come in Sasuke. Don’t touch anything this time Naruto."
Sasuke threw the wood door open with a bang and stormed into the room with his eyes locked on the older woman's in a look that would kill if it could. Naruto trudged along with his head hanging and with eyes half closed. They must have had quite a night.
“So what’s so important that I had to be woken up at seven o’clock in the morning? This mission better be worth it. The last mission you sent the ANBU on was so dull I thought I would die of boredom.”
Tsunade just stared at her papers like this was a normal occurrence.
Sasuke eyebrow twitched at the lack of attention he was getting from his temper tantrum.
“…well?!”
Sasuke stopped in front of Tsunade's desk. Just the same way he'd stood yesterday after being told that his Lover had made it into the ranks of the ANBU. Only this time there was nothing at hand to keep the Uchiha from breaking everything in the room.
The Lady Hokage carefully set the report in hand down and closed her eyes. This was not the time to be working around this mans ego! It was long past time for him to control his anger long enough to get information before resorting to intimidation!
When Tsunade opened her eyes in angry slits with the raven haired Ninja in her sights she was ready to put him in his place. Or at least force him to see the error of this action.
"Good morning to you too... Now if you're done acting like a baby and LISTEN to me, you'd know that this is a serious mission! And can't you even keep your teammate awake? He’s dead asleep on his feet! It’s a wonder that you two can even get anything done since you’re too busy screwing each other!"
Tsunade's eyes burned into Sasukes' in an unspoken battle of the wills the first one to look away submitted to the other. It was a contest that had been going on for as long as the two had known each other.
Sasuke glared right back at the Hokage. No way was he backing down to her.
“I don’t think that our private life is any of your business. Besides, our sex life has nothing to do with this.”
“Well I have a different opinion on that. If you two would stop constantly humping each other, then maybe we could have some successful missions.”
Sasuke just continued to glare at Tsunade. She hasn’t won this battle yet.
Naruto was standing behind his mate with his chin on his chest. The blonde’s gentle snores rocked his body slowly as he kept his balance in his sleep. Having sensed that someone was watching, the sleepy ninja lifted his head and had the grace to look guilty for falling asleep.
"What? I wasn't sleeping...”
Tsunade narrowed her eyes and searched through the pile of missions on her desk until she found the right one. The papers were so new that there were no creases or smudges. The Hokage then pulled a sealed envelope from her robe and held it with the sheaf of papers.
“Since Naruto's finally made it into the ANBU there should be no problem sending him on an A rank mission with you Sasuke. I need the both of you to go to the Village Hidden in the Thorns, collect some very precious merchandise, Bring it back in one piece and convince their Master Gardener to come with you if possible."
Tsunade took a breath and looked at her two most talented ninja.
"Unfortunately I can’t tell you much about the Hidden Thorn village because the ANBU I’d sent through there were quarantined with the villagers because of an epidemic. My operative tells me that the people there have found and marketed a cure so it should be safe enough to go there now.”
Tsunade closed her eyes and shooed the piglet from her breakfast before it ate too much and picked up a bowl of rice before going on. Let them think on that for a while…
“Oh, and Sasuke? Make sure that Naruto doesn’t get himself killed on his first mission as an ANBU. I don’t need to be made a fool of in front of the Elders yet again…”
Tsunade held the papers out to Sasuke along with the sealed envelope. He was the more responsible one, and waved the two men out of the room.
Sasuke snatched the envelope out of the Hokages hand with more force than may have been necessary. He grabbed Naruto’s sleeve and dragged him out of the office.
“Don’t worry about Naruto, he won’t get himself killed I’ll make sure of that. And once we successfully complete this mission…” He turned around to face the irate woman.
“…Naru and I will be more than happy to not talk to or see you for that matter for a long time.”
Shizune watched the pair leave and turned to regard her boss. Tsunade was strong, beautiful and wise but sometimes the new Hokage made her wonder. The younger woman eyed Tsunade with a critical eye before speaking.
“You didn’t tell them about the Master Gardner… or that you’d planed to send Naruto anyway.”
Tsunade smiled faintly and set her empty bowl down.
“Naruto’s good with children and Sasuke knows it. If he knew that the Gardner was a child, there’s no telling what would happen. This will be a good learning experience for both of them.”
Naruto trudged down a muddy trail leading to the Hidden Thorn Village. During the week long travel the truth of their mission, and of the sickness sunk in. Especially when he’d seen the white flat bearing a large black spot in the middle hanging from the highest point in an infected town. The whole area was quarantined and added a whole day’s travel to steer clear of any possible infection.
All the villages and towns in this area had suffered greatly. Burial mounds were so freshly covered over that grass hadn’t covered them yet. The survivors were either really young or kind of old for the most part and they all looked so sad.
Turns out everyone sixteen to twenty-five years old had died, leaving a lot of the working people to protect and fend for themselves. Harsh as it had to be Naruto and Sasuke still found a place to sleep in an old mans barn in exchange for news from Konoha.
TBC…
Zen: Sorry about cutting it off. Geia is putting this story up on a site that has length restrictions. Anyway part two should be up within a few minutes. XD
