Sasuke glared at his reflection, however glaring didn’t improve his appearance. Orange was defiantly not his colour. The bright orange of the jumpsuit drained any colour from Sasuke’s face making him look sickly and unwell. Sasuke’s fisted clenched- when he got his hands on the dobe the Kyuubi was going to look sweet and fluffy in comparison. Not only was the colour an eye sore but the way the clothing clung to him was irritating, considering the slight height difference the cloth that had hung loose and baggy on Naruto stretched painfully across his skin. Not to mention it was too short around the legs and arms for him. He smirked, well at least he was still taller than Naruto, the jumpsuit was proof. The smirk left his face when he moved and the clothing rub uncomfortably against him, what was the damn outfit made out of, sandpaper?!

Sasuke could probably have been able to stand all that if he could ignore one thing. The smell. Each time he breathed Naruto’s scent assaulted his nostrils. The smell of freshly cut grass and ramen shouldn’t be so appealing. That’s what had him trying to melt to mirror before him with one of his infamous death glares- why did he find Naruto’s smell so damned appealing! He’d smelt ramen before, being in a team with Naruto had got him accustomed to that stench long ago. And grass? He’d seen and smelt enough grass to be immune to it, was there anything to even like about the smell of grass? But the combination of the two and the fact he knew it was Naruto’s smell seemed to override the Uchiha’s logic.

Of course he’d tried to find other clothes. He’d found black cargo pants but those had been way to short to get into and each t-shirt he found had the damn Uzumaki swirl on it. And they’d been too baggy- which of course annoyed Sasuke further, damn muscular dobe, seemed he‘d been working out. So he’d stuck with what Naruto had provided him with against his better judgement- at least whatever the council had planned it couldn’t be as bad as this.

Feeling immensely pissed off, unattractive and undignified he exited the Hokage’s apartment via the window and onto the rooftops of Konoha with the intention of getting to his home and finding something- anything!- that wasn’t orange for him to wear. He stuck to the rooftop’s for three reasons. One it was the fastest way for any ninja to get around the village, Two this high up nobody would recognise Sasuke the traitor-nin was in the village and Three nobody would recognise Sasuke wearing Naruto’s atrocious clothing- he considered this the most important reason. He’s pride committed suicide at the thought of somebody seeing hin such un-Uchihaesque clothing. He was fairly certain he’s parent’s were turning in their graves.

Sasuke moved silently along the rooftops, trying to remain in the shaded areas- the glare from the orange might blind someone. He was halfway to the Uchiha district when an idea struck him. Maybe he’d take a detour and find out what the council had planned for him sooner rather than later, at least that way he’d be prepared. Of course he wouldn’t run from his punishment, if he was going to do that then they’d have been no point in him coming back. But having a few hours to hone the indifferent facial expression he’d need when Naruto told him his fate couldn’t hurt. Decision made he set of towards Hokage Tower.

Once Naruto’s office came into view he suppressed his chakra and balanced on the window ledge just out of sight. He sensed several ANBU members dotted around the red building but if he kept his chakra as low as possible he’d be fine. They didn’t call him a genius for nothing. He peered into the office and saw the blonde sat behind a large desk. On one side of him stood a spiked haired male with a perpetually bored expression, the only hint he was paying any attention were his hands pressed together in a triangle shape. Hn, Shikamaru never changed.

On the other side stoof a pale man he’d met only once before. The name alluded him but his face had haunted him in his dreams. All his talk of bonds in Orochimaru’s lair had shaken him more than Sasuke would ever care admit. Sasuke smirked, at least the mans fashion sense was still as bizarre as the first time they’d met.

Slumped near the door stood a grey haired man, face pressed in a orange book. Kakashi Hatake. Shit. Sasuke knew without a doubt his presence would be recognised now, no amount of chakra suppression could fool his former sensei. Although Kakashi had made no move to inform the people in the room of Sasuke lurking outside. Sasuke didn’t know if he should feel annoyed Kakashi didn’t consider him a threat or relieved he’d been allowed to listen.

Sasuke’s eyes wandered to the centre of the room. Two people sat, one man, one woman, tea on their laps. A scowl darkened Sasuke’s face, these were the people that would decide his fate. These haggard, miserable elders that didn’t understand much of anything in Sasuke’s opinion. Well at least he had one thing the council would consider worth saving. The Sharingan. His eyes were his only hope for survival. Well that and Naruto.

As if he’d heard Sasuke’s thoughts Naruto spoke.

“Uchiha Sasuke has returned to Konoha and here he will remain.” Naruto firmly stated whilst a two pairs of white eyebrows rose.

“We heard rumours of course. Rumours you sent ANBU to follow him through Fire Country. And some rather disturbing rumours that he even spent the night in your residence.-” Koharu paused and Homura continued “-Is there any truth to these rumours Hokage-sama?”

“What I do with my shinobi is none of your concern. Nor is it your concern who I invite into my own home.” Naruto snapped back at the two elders, eyes flashing with anger.

“That would be true if the person you were letting wander into our village and into your home wasn’t a traitor-nin.” Koharu replied, her voice practically dripping with venom.

Naruto stood, moved around the desk and began pacing between the two elders. A scowl was fixed on his usually carefree face as hands clenched and unclenched repeatedly.

“It was Sasuke Uchiha not some worthless traitor-nin.”

“Whatever your feelings for the Uchiha are they need to be suppressed Hokage-sama. You need to disregard your emotions and think logically and clearly for the village’s own safety.” Homura stated calmly, gently sliding his glasses up his nose.

“The village was never in danger from Sasuke. In fact he’s eliminated a potential threat, Itachi Uchiha. After all your dirty little secret will remain one now. That’s one less Akatsuki member we have to worry about. You two should be kissing the ground he walks on.”

Dirty secret? What was Naruto talking about? What did that have to do with Itachi? How did Naruto even know he’d killed Itachi? He’d never told him- unless he’d let it slip whilst drunk.

“Ha! What do you know? Your still a mere child, do not question our motives boy. Have you forgotten he left for Orochimaru? And he is still very much alive, how do you know he won’t defect again? Or maybe he’s been sent here to spy for Orochimaru?” The woman’s voice rose with each statement, trying to get her point across to Naruto. All it seemed to do was further the blondes anger. Her male companion tapped her hand in a reassuring gesture.

“I trust Sasuke.” Those words alone filled Sasuke with a warmth he’d never felt before- even when he preformed his Katon:Dragon Flame ninjutsu. He’d left Naruto for dead nearly-he was what nineteen now? So that’d be seven years? And yet Naruto still trusted him after all that time.

“Then you are a fool.”

Blue eyes flashed red for a brief second. Before he let out a small chuckle which made Sasuke’s eyes widen.

“Konoha’s number one loudest, unpredictable, hyperactive knuckle headed ninja aye Kakashi? Fine. I‘m a fool. But I am the fool that rules this village and Sasuke stays.”

Sasuke saw Kakashi glance up from his book, his eyes half moons indicating his grin hidden behind the mask. If Sasuke didn’t know any better he’d say he was grinning at him.

“That is obvious. We can’t have the Uchiha returning to Orochimaru now can we? That would be disastrous, especially considering your fondness for the man.”

“And what is that supposed to mean Homura?” Naruto’s voice had taken a steely edge and the pacing had stopped to be replaced with a withering glare. Sasuke had to wondered if Naruto had any Uchiha ancestry with a death glare that powerful.

“What it means is that if the Uchiha was to attack the village your emotions would cloud your judgement.”

The glare hardened and was even more menacing than before.

“Don’t think for one second I would hesitate to kill Sasuke Uchiha if he were to try and harm the village. I love this village more than my own life and would willingly sacrifice myself for it just like the Hokage’s before me.”

Sasuke couldn’t blame Naruto for his threat to kill him if he harmed the village. The village was Naruto’s home and each person a member of his family. And Sasuke had killed the man that had destroyed his clan, his family.

“We are deviating from the real reason we are here. The Uchiha’s punishment. He has committed a crime and he must suffer the consequences for his actions.”

“There will be no punishment. Sasuke didn’t harm a single Konoha shinobi. He’s no more dangerous than I was when I trained with Ero-Sennin.”

“You are a bigger fool than I thought then Hokage-sama! He needs to realise that he cannot simply get away with defecting whenever he feels like it.” Koharu actually stood up, shaking with indignation. Homura grabbed her hand and tugged her back into her seat.

“He made a mistake. I’m sure you both have made some in your time-” Naruto stared pointedly at the elders, eyes filled with fire and voice laced with authority. It gave Sasuke goose bumps just hearing Naruto’s voice oozing such dominance. “-and I have the scrolls to prove it.”

The elders looked at each other. Both communicating with their eyes alone. Sasuke would have been impressed if he hadn’t had that ability with Naruto. He guessed he had Zabuza and Haku to thank for that.

“You will punish the Uchiha.” Homura ordered.

Naruto smirked- the dobe actually smirked?!

“And here I was thinking you were advisors. You do not order me around like a child, those days are long since gone. I’m the Hokage now and not the demon ridden boy. I will consult those I deem worthy to assist me in such matters. You may leave, I will send you a scroll with my decision.”

“We will do no such thing.” The pair cried out in unison.

“Huh, fine. Shikamaru?” Naruto turned to look at the lazy man who’d not moved since the meetings beginning.

“I have faith in your trust of the Uchiha Naruto. Although I do advise some caution be taken. Not as a form of punishment but to keep the villagers appeased.”

Naruto nodded, blinding smile on his face as he turned to the other man.

“Sai, your thoughts?”

“Well dickless-” Sasuke saw a vein throb at the insult and suppressed a chuckle “-your bonds are strong. He came back for you, he won’t defect again. Any form of punishment should be merely for show.”

Sai? Was that his name? Always talking about the bonds, and what did he mean Sasuke had come back for Naruto?! There were other reasons too, he just couldn’t think of them right now!

“Well then it’s decided. No severe punishment shall be taken. What I’ll do is stop him from taking the chunnin test for a year, so only D-rank missions for him.” Naruto laughed light-heartedly “-To Sasuke that’s a severe punishment.”

He turned back to the elders who were currently trying to stare Naruto into oblivion.

“That do it for you?”

“No. He needs surveillance.”

Naruto sighed and placed his hands behind his head, leaning on the desk.

“Fine, fine. He can stay with me for the first year. No safer place for him than with the Hokage. He‘ll be by my side 24/7 and when he‘s not Sakura-chan will watch him.”

“Is that wise? What with her previous interest in the Uchiha.” Homura inquired whilst Sasuke fought back the urge to grimace- him with Sakura. Ha! Not likely.

Naruto’s eyes flashed red the second time that day.

“That is my business. The worst that could happen is she cheats, having Sasuke back is worth the risk. After all if she cheats she‘s not worth my time is she?”

The elders looked at one another again then nodded.

“Well so long then Utatane-san, Mitokado-san. Always a pleasure.” Naruto said, with just a subtle hint of sarcasm. The old woman ‘Hmphed’ in response before making her way out. Homura stayed for a brief moment staring at Naruto.

“We expect you to arrange for the Uchiha to produce heirs as soon as possible. The Sharingan is a valuable asset to Konoha.”

“I will do no such thing. Sasuke’s free to be with whoever he wishes, I will force him into no arrangement. He is not a tool for war, just like I wasn’t. Remember that. Good-bye.” Naruto snapped out before the man glared and stomped out the room. Cloak billowing behind him.

Naruto had another wide grin on his face as he plonked down into his seat. Sighing dramatically. Sasuke stood for a few more minutes in shock. The dobe had pulled it off, he was free- well almost free. A year of watching a D-ranked missions was tolerable. At least he wasn’t dead and he wouldn’t have to trade his freedom for bouncing bundles of Sharingan welding baby Uchiha’s.

He leapt off the ledge and onto the rooftops. He’d be changing into some less itchy clothes and then he’d have to buy the dobe some ramen. Hell he’d probably have to buy Naruto ramen for the rest of his life.

With that thought he set off.

**

Naruto caught a glimpse of orange bounding away along rooftops out of his office window.

Damn nosy teme. He thought, his smile stretching wider.
