Longing

The snow once again began to fall, but it was such a natural occurance, it didn't bother her anymore as she made her way down from the upper mountains. Dressed in a pure, white cloak that blended with the snow, she arrived back in the village shrouded in snow, yet very active. People were enjoying some of the hot sweet potatoes that had become Yukigure's claim to fame. Children played happily in the snow, while the adults associated with one another, simply going about their daily lives. They greeted the beauty, who, for the past three years, has watched over their blossoming town. Her long, pale-blue hair matched her almost-near white eyes, whilst her hair was pulled into two, unbraided pigtails that hung straight down her back, tied with blue ribbons at the end of each one. She'd matured, only being twenty, yet, she didn't seem to age whatsoever. The children ran over to here and smiled.

"Yukikage-Sama! Will you play with us later?" a girl around four asked.

Hinata recognized the girl as one of Hikaru's friends, sort of a girl that was a big-sister figure to her child. Hinata smiled and nodded.

"Of course I will! By the way, have you seen Hikaru-Chan?"

"Ummmm..."

"Well, well. Madame Yukikage can take care of an entire city, but not know where her own child is. Really, Hinata." a voice mocked.

Hinata looked up, seeing her cousin standing there, his black hair reduced to simply shoulder length. His blue eyes smiled at her, while Hinata could hear the faint babbling of the baby on his back. It was his second. Another boy, just like his first born son, Sun-Ce who was standing by his father's side. Sun-Ce was born just two years ago, while Neji's second child was born shortly after. Sun-Ce resembled his father with his blue eyes, but had amazing, pretty black hair. Hinata had learned something...The more the child represented his father in looks, he made-up for in the personality of the mother. Sun-Ce, wearing a blue kimono waved at Hinata and smiled.

"Hina-Chan!"

Neji blushed and smiled.

"I guess you could say he's at that age where he can speak...you just really can't understand anything he's saying."

"I'll believe it. So, how's the younger Shan-Hyuu?"

Neji turned around and Hinata could only smile happily at the baby in it's carrier. This time, Shan-Hyuu favored TenTen with short, brown hair, yet had light brown eyes with traces of blue. Hinata giggled at the little brown skull-cap with bear ears to keep the baby's head warm.

"BEH!" Sun-Ce smiled.

"Bear." Neji shrugged, trying to interrpertate his child's language.

Neji turned back around after Hinata kissed the baby's forehead and smiled.

"So, how was your trip to the shrine?"

"Very interesting. It was peaceful to say the least. I meditated and trained there for a while. I assume everything was okay under your watch, Neji-Oniichan?"

Neji blushed a little. Even though he and Hinata were cousins and not brother and sister, he still saw her as a little sister. Plus, she looked her cutest when calling him Oniichan, so why stop her?

"Everything's pretty good. Took care of some paperwork for ya, so you can just relax for the next couple of days."

"Arigato. Now, where DID that son of mine get to...?" Hinata asked, looking around.

"Knowing Hikaru, he's probably with Hikari. I know I'm gonna drop Sun-Ce off here with Atchi-Sama. She just loves children. It's...kind of a shame she can't have any herself." Neji sighed.

Hinata sighed almost as if agreeing. Atchi, one of her confidants, Yukikagure's leading Medical-Nin, and best friend, had two, white-tiger cubs tattooed on her stomach...It was her way of letting people know that she couldn't have children. Hinata wished she could do something to help Atchi because heaven knows she loved children more than anything and on her days off, she would spend time with the children when the parents were busy. Speaking of children...

"Oi, how's Hanabi-Chan?" Neji asked.

Hinata decided to accompany her cousin down the ways to Atchi's own, private hut. Hinata could only giggle a little bit as Sun-Ce reached for her hand as well as holding onto his father's. Hinata looked at Neji with a small smile as she took Sun-Ce's hand.

"She's still not used to being a mother so soon, I suppose. Then again, I was pretty young when I had Hikaru-Chan."

"PRETTY YOUNG? You damn near gave me a heart-attack when I found out. Atleast Hanabi-Chan waited until she was eighteen." Neji slightly frowned.

Hinata giggled once more. Neji was going on twenty-two and his third child, whom TenTen was pregnant with. Hinata remembered it quite well...he WAS surprised, but she really thought Neji had it handed it to him when he came rushing into her office late fall and delivered the news that her younger sister at only eighteen was pregnant with her first child. Said child would later be delivered by a frantic Kiba during a bad blizzard. Between the mixture of the weather and Kiba's roughness, Hanabi named the baby girl Arashi, meaning 'storm'. Hinata felt very odd about being an aunt, but hated whenever someone brought up that she was younger than Hanabi when she had Hikaru. As they approached Atchi's hut, Hinata and Neji smiled when they saw the Medical-Nin playing in a circle with six other familiar children, the oldest being Kurenai and the late Asuma's son, Kouma, at only five, going on six. Sitting beside one another and clapping in tandem with Atchi's dancing, were two children who were not only relate, but twins! Atchi looked up and pointed at Hinata.

"Look who's here!"

The twins turned around instantly and Hinata still found it her good fortune she was able to tell the twosome apart, after all, they were two of her many godchildren.

"HINA-CHAN!"

Neji seemed very confused as the little boy with his twin sister ran towards Hinata. She kneeled and hugged her two godchildren. Neji couldn't even tell which was the boy or which one was the girl. He looked at the twin with the short black hair and green eyes wearing a blue kimono with the Uchiha symbol on the back. By far, this one looked more like Sasuke than anything.

"Lemme guess...you're Tsubasa, right? The Uchiha son."

The twin frowned and shook his head.

"I'm Hikari!" she said pointing to her chest.

Hinata watched Neji blush a little and huff before turning his attention to the pulling on his kimono. He looked down, seeing Sun-Ce pointing to the other twin. This one had the long, pretty hair which was a dark-purple color and braided, and dark, almost black eyes. This twin wore a similar kimono to Hikaru's.

"Dada! That's Tsubasa-Kun!" Sun-Ce pointed.

Neji watched the twin boy blush and look at his feet. Neji thought it was a damn shame that the boy looked exactly like a girl. Hell, he had long hair when he around that age, but atleast he looked like his own gender. Hinata hugged the twins once more. Hikaru, the daughter and Tsubasa, Sasuke's son, was born around the same time as Sun-Ce, but Sakura had been far from expecting twins...Hinata remembered how terrifying Sakura had been during birth...Hinata hoped to avoid that little scenario again if she could. Tsubasa shyly walked over to Sun-Ce and smiled.

"Wanna play?"

"Yeah!"

When Sun-Ce took Tsubasa's hand, Neji nearly went over. Maybe his son was smart enough to tell the twins apart, but certainly he knew that Tsubasa was boy! He groaned a little.

"My stomach hurts, Hinata-Chan..."

Hinata took Shan-Hyuu from Neji's carrier and smiled, cooing at the baby as Atchi walked over to them.

"Hinata-Sama! When did you get back?"

"Oh, just a few minutes ago. You haven't seen Hikaru-Chan, have you?"

Atchi considered the question while she took Shan-Hyuu from Hinata's arms. She hadn't seen Hikaru for a while which was odd because usually, he was with Hikari and Tsubasa. She shook her head.

"No, I haven't seen him. He probably wouldn't have gone far though."

"Okay, then. Take care, Atchi. Neji-Oneechan, I'll see you later, okay?" Hinata smiled.

Neji nodded and looked at Hinata as she headed towards her towering home. Atchi sighed a little bit, standing beside Neji.

"I wonder how many more children Hinata-Sama would have had if..."

"I was wondering the same thing. Hinata-Chan has always been good with children." Neji sighed.

"It's been almost four years since she's last seen him! How could he not atleast check on her?" Atchi asked in irritation.

Neji simply shrugged and sighed. He looked at Shan-Yuu and kissed the baby's head. No force on earth would make him part with the woman he loved OR his children. Not like Naruto. Hinata made her way through town, being greeted happily by the villagers. Hinata was just about to enter her office when she heard a faint voice.

"Oneechan?"

Hinata turned around, seeing her sister standing there, wearing her favorite pink kimono, cradling the newborn in her arm. Hinata smiled, hugging Hanabi and kissing Arashi's head. Hanabi had made a few changes to herself as well...For one thing, her hair was cut in the same fashion as Hinata's when she was much younger. Hinata couldn't help but giggle.

"She's such a beautiful baby."

"A...arigato, Oneechan. How was your trip?"

"It was well. Where is Kiba-Kun?"

"He went to Konoha to help train a few of Konoha's new ANBU, since Kiba-Kun is one himself."

"That's right..." Hinata smiled, remembering.

Hinata, Neji, Shikamaru, Sasuke and...him, were all still Gonnin of Konoha despite the fact they'd gone their own ways. Every now and again, when Hinata wasn't busy with her being Yukikage, she was assisting Konoha in missions. Hanabi looked at her older sister, admiring her so much...

"Oneechan...? Anno...Kiba-Kun said that there wasn't any sign of father lately. Where do you think he disappeared to?"

Hinata was concerned on that matter. Neither Hanabi nor herself had heard from Hiashi Hyuuga in almost two years. They heard from a Konoha informant he was traveling. Searching for something, though neither daughter knew of what. Hinata had to admit...she was also concerned about...well, that person with the blue eyes and blonde hair. She wondered when that special tomorrow would come, bringing with it, his return.

"Honestly, Hanabi-Chan, I'm not sure. Oh! Have you seen Hikaru? I haven't been able to find him for a while now."

Hanabi shook her head with a small smile.

"I'm pretty sure that he's somewhere close by. Well, oneechan, I must talk with you later, I have to get dinner started."

"Okay. Take care, Hanabi-Chan." Hinata smiled.

Hanabi bowed a little before heading towards her own home. Hinata turned and headed inside, heading for her office first. She took off her Yukikage cloak, revealing the pure-white, sleeveless mini-kimono beneath it that cut off six inches above her knees, giving people a glimpse at her long, shapely legs. The kimono was tied with an ice-blue sash that almost matched her hair, but not quite. She took her hair down out of it's bun, letting it drape down to her spine. She sat at her desk, sighing a little. Neji sure was thorough with keeping everything organized. She looked at the pictures on her desk. One of was of Hikaru when he was a little baby, another was of all of her best girlfriends. The one on the end was aged by time and in black and white, but Hinata loved that picture nonetheless. It was of her mother standing beside Minato Namikaze with, ironically enough, Hinata as a baby in Minato's arms while Naruto was in Shioriko's arms. Hinata giggled, seeing how small she and Naruto used to be. Hinata then looked at the picture centered in between the many she had on her desk. It was of her, Naruto and Hikaru and was taken just a few days after Hikaru had been born. Hinata sighed, bringing the frame picture closer.

"Naruto-Kun..."

She sat the picture back at the edge of the desk and rested her head on the desk with a small sigh, listening to the pendant around her neck clink against the desk. She looked at then pendant which was a beautiful silver color shaped like a diamond...She knew the secret of it, but did Naruto? She wondered what he was doing. What had he been doing for these past years? Was he eating okay? She sighed a little. She'd cried herself to sleep almost every single night when she first became Yukikage, but she couldn't cry forever. People needed her, Hikaru needed her. Speaking of, she still had to find her blasted son. A small knock on the door made her hope it was him.

"Come in!"

The door opened and she saw Richi walk in with a familiar three-year-old in her arms.

"Okaachan!"

Hinata stood up, walking from around her desk as Richi let the little blonde boy run towards his mother. Hinata giggled as the boy, dressed in a dark-red kimono ran towards her and wrapped his arms around her neck.

"Okaachan!"

Hinata picked the child up and smiled, holding him tightly.

"Have you been a good boy, Hikaru-Chan?" Hinata asked, pressing her head to his own.

Richi smiled, noticing the older Hikaru got, the more he resembled his father. His hair was pulled back straight until it reached a black headband where the rest of his hair flared wildly and spiked just like his father. The child nodded in response to his mother's question.

"Mm-hmm! I have a present!"

Hinata set the boy down and he reached into his kimono and pulled out a small bouquet of flowers containing two pink ones and two, miniature sunflowers.

"Welcome home, okaachan!" he grinned.

Hinata smiled, taking the flowers and setting them in a small vase on her desk.

"Thank you, Hikaru. How thoughtful."

Hinata looked at the flowers, noticing something strange...All of the flowers were ones that didn't grow anywhere near Yukigakure.

"Hikaru-Chan, where did you get these flowers?"

He thought about it for a minute before smiling.

"It's a secret!"

"A secret, huh?" Hinata smiled.

"Yep! Okay, bai-bai okaachan!"

And just like that, the child was gone yet again. Hinata looked at Richi and smiled. The blonde, dressed in a yellow yukata sat down with some obvious information.

"Where did you find him?" Hinata asked.

"Outside the gates of Yukigure." Richi said, going through her notes.

Hinata looked at the flowers, but with concern. She knew Hikaru wouldn't dare to to Konoha by himself...So where did these flowers come from? Before she could ponder it any longer, Richi cleared her throat.

"Hinata-Sama, a messenger from Sunagakure arrived earlier today."

"Suna?" Hinata asked, leaning back in her chair.

"Hmm-hmm. Apparently, the Kazekage's sister's child turns one soon."

"Oh, that's right!" Hinata said, standing.

Richi watched as Hinata went around the room looking for her calendar. Neji had cleaned up a bit TOO well. When Hinata finally found it, she flipped through the months, arriving in May. With all the snow year round, some people lost track of what season it was. Not Hinata. Sure enough, she had marked down the birth date of Temari and Shikamaru's only child, a very pretty baby named Yotsuba. Despite the name, Yotsuba was in fact male. He was named after his mother's 'four-leaf clover' hairstyle. Temari didn't find it funny at all, but finally accepted it and was now preparing for her second one. Now the baby she had was turning one. Hinata sighed, asking no one in particular,

"Where does the time go?"

"I'll say. Most of your friends have children." Richi said looking through more recent notes.

Hinata nodded. That was definitely true, seeing how TenTen had two with one on the way, Temari had one, but was also expecting her second child, Sakura had twins, Kiba had a child...and last time she checked, Chouji and Ino were the only ones without kids. She'd even heard Shino had settled down with a Konoha girl and even SHE was expecting their first child. Hinata sighed. She wanted another child...maybe a girl this time around, since the boy-children, including Hikaru, Temari's son Yotsuba, Sakura's son Tsubasa, Kurenai's son Kouma, and TenTen's boys Shan-Hyuu and Sun-Ce outnumbered the girls including Tsubasa's twin sister Hikari and Hanabi's daughter Arashi and even then, Hikari and Tsubasa were only visiting Yukigure while Sakura was in town. It was then Hinata blinked...She sure hoped more girls were born otherwise when it came to dating, the boys were probably going to be fighting to death. While Hikari was exactly like her father Sasuke, she would without a doubt be gorgeous when she got older and that went for Arashi as well. Then again, Arashi would probably be just like Kiba: Wild and unpredictable, but loyal...

"Hinata-Sama?" Richi asked.

Hinata blinked, snapping out of her daydreams. She smiled apologetically.

"Gomen ne. What were you saying Richi-San?"

"Just that the Kage conference was approaching soon, ma'am. The representing cities will be Konohagakure, Yukigakure, Sunakagure and Chikyugakure, the village of Earth, will also be attending. Shall I send your RSVP?"

Hinata nodded. She was looking forward to returning to Konoha for the conferance. She'd probably take Hikaru with her, certain her friends would be excited to see him. Plus, she had to congratulate the new Hokage: Sakura. In Tsunade's strong wanderlust, she left Sakura in charge, literally overnight almost two years ago. She'd been so busy lately, so she sent Tsubasa and Hikari to visit Yukigure for a while. Hinata was always happy to see her godchildren. Hinata stood up and stretched.

"When is the conference again?"

"In just two days. Shall I start making traveling arrangements?"

Hinata nodded. If it'd just been her making the trip, she wouldn't need any whatsoever, but her child was going to be with her. Truth be told, she was nervous about the conference as it was, despite the fact that all of her friends were Kages of some sort: Sakura took care of Konoha, she took care of Yuki, Gaara had taken care of Suna and Temari, much to her disbelief, had taken over Chikyugakure under the wishes of Gaara. Chikyu was a big importer of rice, sake, medicinal herbs and special vegetables. It was a small town, but to it's borders, there was nothing but grass and land. Temari came to Yukigure asking to be allies and of course, Hinata agreed. What also made Hinata nervous was that three years ago, Hiashi Hyuuga had been seen outside of their borders, looking for something. What was still a mystery. Even still, her father hadn't been heard from and though Hinata didn't care much for him anymore, she still hoped he was still in good health...Why, she chalked it up to that part of herself that was compassionate for anyone. She sighed and looked at Richi who seemed to be done. Richi's sisters, Kuchi and Tenchi went on a training mission and the only way Richi knew they were okay was postcards every now and again. Richi and Atchi stayed behind, but all four girls were content.

"You should really rest, Hinata-Sama. That's why Neji got everything done for you." Richi smiled.

Hinata nodded and stood up, yawning a little.

"Could you make sure you keep an eye out on Hikaru? I don't want him getting into any trouble."

"Of course!" Richi smiled, heading out of the office.

Hinata made her way to her large room at the very top of the building that resembled Tsunade's own roost. Hinata took off her strapy sandals and fell onto the large, soft bed. She looked around the room, seeing everything was just as she left it. She yawned, laying on her stomach and clenching the pillow. She was happy to be home, but...How much longer before that space beside her in bed would be filled by that perfect figure? Had he become stronger in three years? What did he look like now? Did he still have that same, funny grin...? Hinata blushed a little more...Could he still touch her in that special way if they were alone this very moment...? Hinata closed her eyes, not wanting to even trek down that path.

Hinata wrapped her arms around herself. But GOD...how she did miss his touch.
