Burn Out Bright
Chapter 4
They finally arrived at there destination marked by a great wooden torri. This is where the weapon was supposed to be.
“So this is Mount Asshole?” Suigetsu said looking unimpressed.
“It’s Mount Aso, you asshole!” Karin growled.
“Whatever.” He replied.
“Let’s go.” The last Uchiha commanded, without even turning to them he added. “Quietly.”
The other two stopped their bickering and followed after Jugo and their leader.
**********************************************************************************
Hebi walked through the stalagmites and stalactites filled cave just as the Konoha nins did earlier. They traveled until the light from the entrance could no longer be seen. There were many tunnels that seemed to go in every direction.
The Uchiha had activated his bloodline limit before he even entered the cave. It would let him see if there were any traps or people already inside, also it meant that the darkness didn’t bother him. Unfortunately the rest of his team was not so lucky. Jugo seemed to find his way around fairly well unlike Suigetsu and Karin. Suigetsu had run into 3 different stalagmites and Karin fell into a not so shallow puddle. Suigetsu had laughed at her only to be silenced when he ran into another stalagmite, which made Karin laugh at him. Then they began to bicker, yell and fight. Jugo just shook his head and continued to follow their raven-haired leader.
The Uchiha could feel his eye twitch in the dark. ‘Do they not understand ‘Quietly’? Those two together are almost a annoying as…’ The raven didn’t want to think about his blond ex-teammate. Not right then at least. They were to close to getting the weapon and he needed to concentrate. For all he knew the blond could arrive with a team of Konoha’s nins any minute. He wasn’t in the mood to make the blond feel stupid and unwanted again. He hated doing that but until he killed his brother he would have to. It was getting harder with each of their meetings. Honestly how could it be easy to turn away the most fuckable creature you ever met?
Shaking those thoughts away he returned to the problem of which tunnel to follow. But first, things first there are two idiots that need to be quieted.
Turning to face the arguing couple the raven caught movement and a flash of blond out of the corner of his eye. Turning in that direction his eyes widened suddenly when he recognized the blond exiting one of the tunnels.
‘Naruto.’
A loud “Ouch” was heard echoing through the tunnel because Karin whacked the blue haired male.
Startled sky blue eyes looked in the direction of the noise and landed on red sharingan ones. Their eyes locked, both seemed to forget about their surroundings as they stepped unconsciously closer to each other. Drawn together by a longing that was so deeply routed inside them.
Unfortunately their minds returned to reality as another loud “Ouch! I said stop it Karin!” echoed through the cave. Before the raven could speak the blonde’s ‘clone’ was gone and all that remained was a puff of dissipating smoke.
‘Kuso!’ the raven’s mind screamed. ‘They beat us here. I see that a confrontation is unfortunately necessary now.’ Using his bloodline the raven concentrated on the spot where the clone once stood. He focused on the retreating charka. There was a barely visible charka trail the clone had left while returning to original. It would lead them straight to the blond and most likely the weapon as well.
“Umm… what just happen?” Karin asked realizing that she had missed something while pummeling the blue haired idiot.
“Come now.” The sharingan wielder said as he started to run into the tunnel that had the charka trail. The two bickerers turned to Jugo to explain what just happened but the larger nin just ran after their leader. Shrugging Suigetsu ran down the tunnel too, followed by Karin.
It wasn’t long before they entered a perfectly square room that seemed to be a dead end.
“Well this sucks.” Suigetsu stated while looking at the dead end. “Where to now?”
Ignoring him Sasuke studied the room until an abnormity on the wall caught his attention. He realized that it was a switch to activate a hidden door most likely. Searching the walls once more the raven found where it was.
“Stand over there.” He said pointing at the hidden door way.
The rest of the group looked a little confused but didn’t question him. Once they were in position, the raven pushed the button and quickly moved to the hidden door.
There was a clicking noise and the wall rotated, this time taking them with it. On the other side of the wall it was dark. Sudden heat enveloped them.
The glanced back at the wall they just came through. ‘I swear I just felt his charka pass us, but… No it was probably just the fading charka trail I was following. Besides I can feel his charka up a head still.’
Hebi walked down the tunnel and entered the cave. The heat in this cave was immense.
“Whoa.” Karin and Suigetsu said together.
‘That sounds like something the blond would say.’ The raven thought.
The Uchiha studied the huge cave. His eyes came to rest on the huge stone island in the middle.
He started to cross the high-rise bridge knowing his team would follow. They reached the other side and walked up to the shrine, but before they were ten feet from the door it slide open. Standing in the door way was a surprised looking Naruto, a porn reading Kakashi and a bewildered looking Sakura.
They just stared at each other for a couple moments. Then,
“Move.” The raven commanded the blond.
“No.” The blond growled back.
It looked like a fight was the only way to solve this. Both teams took a fighting stance. The Konoha nins were out numbered by one. Before either side could attack the cave started to rumble and shake. Stalactites started to fall from the ceiling of the cave. The ground shook again this time make both group fight to stay standing.
It was when Sakura fell on her knees that the raven could see past her into the shine. All that was there was an empty stone stand in the middle of the shrine where the weapon most likely once laid.
“Where is the weapon?” the raven growled at the blond.
“Safe.” The blond replied.
The cave shook once again this time harder then last, throwing both Naruto and Sakura to the ground.
A large stalactite broke free from the cave roof right above the blond.
The raven watched in horror as his precious person was about to be crushed.
The rock impacted but instead of a scream of pain and all the raven heard was a poof.
Realization hit him like a ton of bricks (or a stalactite ;P ). That was just a clone. Relief flooded his veins only to be replaced by anger at being tricked. Sakura and Kakashi were both Naruto clones using a henged.
“We were trick we need to leave now.” The raven said venomously as he ran across the bridge.
His team didn’t argued. The cave seemed like it was going to clasp on them at any second. Faintly in the background you could hear the other Naruto clones poof away.
‘How could I be so stupid as to fall for their ploy?’ He mentally berated himself. He was still trying to think of how the Konoha nins passed them, without him knowing.
************************************************************************************
Kakashi, Naruto and Sakura had made good time in leaving the cave. They were currently leaving the rock country and heading back into the fire country. The sun had set a long while ago so it was dark. They were moving faster then they did on the way to the weapons location. They had taken their time on the way there, taking breaks during the day and rest at night. This wasn’t because they weren’t in a rush it was because they needed to conserve energy, incase of a fight. Luckily that didn’t happen and if they kept moving at the pace they were going there might not be one at all. It took them a little over 4 days to arrive at the weapon’s location but it should only take about a little under a day going back. They couldn’t risk stopping with the weapon, it was just wasn’t an option. Luckily they would only have to do it for about 14 hours; unfortunately they would all need at least a week to recuperate from the physical and metal stress.
Another unnerving thing was the fact that ever since they left the cave with the weapon there had been small tremors. At first it was nothing, but now they were almost like low-leveled earthquakes. The blond found it slightly disturbing.
‘Did removing the weapon from the cave actually cause this? Kakashi say that we are in a part of the country that has a fault line running threw it, but that means that Konoha is also on the fault line. I hope that there aren’t earthquakes there too. I wonder if Sasuke got out of the cave all right? I bet he did, but he seemed pretty pissed that he had been tricked.’ The blond grinned to himself at remembering the memories of his clones after they poofed back to him. He felt proud that he pulled a fast one on the Uchiha heir. You see it was him that came up with a plan to slip past the raven and his band of merry men. Even Kakashi seemed a little surprised at how well thought out his plan was. The blond thought back on what happened.
He was reaching out for the orb when he received the memories of one of his clones. At first he was shocked and unsure of what to do. He heard Sakura’s voice.
“Naruto are you alright?” She asked with concern.
“Hebi… they’re here…Sasuke just entered the cave.” He replied with his hand still out stretched.
‘What do I do?! What do I do?! He’s here. After all time we searched for him I’m finally going to see him again. But…No I can’t because if I face him now I won’t be able to protect the orb and complete the mission. I’m sorry Sasuke. I promise I’ll bring you home, just not right now.’ Determination flowed threw the blonde’s veins. He could do this. He just needed to avoid Sasuke at all costs. But how do you avoid someone when there is only one way in or out.
“Naruto? Naruto did you say Sasuke is here? If him and his team find the right tunnel we will be trapped.” The pink hair nin stated.
Kakashi looked up from his book to gauge the blonde’s reaction. His mask hid his frown but his concern for the blond could still be seen in his eyes.
Naruto didn’t notice that Sakura was talking to him or that Kakashi was sending him concerned looks. His mind was running a mile a minute trying to figure everything out.
‘How do we escape from Sasuke unnoticed.’ The blond snorted at the irony of it. Usually it was the other way around. He would chase after the raven, but now he had to run away from him.
Sakura was asking if he was okay again because she had heard him snort for no apparent reason. ‘She’s funny. One minute she’s acting all mothering and the next she is whacking me over the head like back in the room with the hidden door. Wait a minute! The door! That’s it, I know how to get past Sasuke without him noticing.’
The blond arm, that was now slightly sore from hanging in mid air the whole time, finally reached it’s target. He grabbed the orb and tucked in his pack. He then quickly turned to his sensei and Sakura.
His sudden movement obvious surprised the pink haired girl as she stepped back a little to study him.
“I have a plan.” He stated with a determined look on his face. The blond made a few hand sign and 3 Naruto clones appeared. Two of them then henged into Sakura and Kakashi.
The real Sakura looked confused. “Um… Naruto I still don’t see how that will help much.”
“Just trust me. We have to leave now.” The blond replied.
Sakura glances at her sensei to see what he thought about the blonde’s weird attitude.
Kakashi just shrugged. “Lead the way Naruto.” He replied.
The blond smiled then took off running across the bridge back toward the hidden door, his teammate and sensei right behind him. He left the clones behind. They arrived at the door and just stopped. Sakura looked confused once more.
“Shouldn’t we push the button on this side to go threw?” she asked.
“No, we need to wait. If everything goes as planned Hebi will push the button on their side and spin the door for us.”
Realizing what the blond was planning Sakura was impressed. “So we will need to suppress our charka’s so team Hebi doesn’t realize we are hiding on this side.”
The blond nodded.
Kakashi was also impressed with his student’s quick thinking. ‘Well done Naruto, this just might work.’
They stood close to door waiting quietly. They didn’t have to wait long before they heard footsteps and muffled voices on the other side of the door.
There was the clicking noise and the wall rotated. As team Hebi was rotated to the inside, the Konoha nins were rotated to outside.
The stood still for a moment to make sure that Hebi continued on further into the cave. When the muffled voices disappeared the Kyubi vessel knew the plan worked. This was no time to celebrate though because it would still be a long trip back to Konoha and Hebi wouldn’t be fooled for long.
Though the blond did smile as he heard an approving growl from the demon in side him. It was nice to be acknowledged.
Sakura looked over and saw the blond grinning like a mad man. ‘Oh Naruto, your such a goof ball, but you are also very smart, even though you tend to hide that fact. Your plan was really genius, simple but effective.’ It was the pink haired nins turn to grin now as she thought of what Sasuke’s emotionless face would look like after finding out he had been duped.
The blond looked over at his evilly grinning teammate and was about to ask what she was thinking about when the ground started to shake once again.
“It seems to only be getting worse. I hope Konoha is okay.” The blond stated.
“I’m worried too Kakashi-sensei. We have been traveling for over 9 hours and the earthquake seem to be everywhere. Isn’t Konoha sitting on a major fault line? If the ground if shaking this bad and we aren’t even directly on top of the fault line how much worse is it there?” The grin that had been on the pink haired nins face was no more. Instead her face was serious and concerned.
Kakashi was also worried though he didn’t show it. The last thing he needed was for his team to get distracted. It also bothered him that all these earthquakes started after they left the mountain. The sliver hair jounin never believed in coincidence, but he still couldn’t figure out what was going on.
“the sun will be coming up soon.” Kakashi stated randomly trying to change the topic. Seeing that his students were still worried, the sliver hair male tried to calm them. “Don’t worry Konoha has plans incase anything like this happens. All we can do is complete our mission and trusted that everyone is fine.”
Even in the darkness Kakashi could see that his students relaxed slightly.
‘Good.’ He thought to himself ‘They seem to not be worrying as much, now if only I could take my own advice.’
