High up in a tree, Sasuke crouched low on a thick branch trying his best not to be spotted. He quickly glanced at his partner, noticing that the blonde was nowhere to be found. He cursed and looked left to right. No Naru anywhere. Then with dread he looked down…and there stood his dobe of a lover standing in the middle of the road for the whole Village to see.
Naruto looked up the broad dirt road that led to the Thorn village and stopped. He knew he was being watched, he could feel it but this time he was the one watching. Just through the trees he could see someone wearing a white outfit. The hyperactive ninja carefully put his travel pack down and crept closer to this stranger.
From the tree, Sasuke could see what his lover was doing and wanted to smack him. The dobe was walking towards a potential enemy…couldn’t he see that?
It was a girl, maybe eight or nine years old with long black hair that fell to the middle of her back. On the ground beside her was a little cloth bag filled with healing herbs and fungi.
The child was wrestling with a mushroom that was nearly as big as she was with three separate caps stacked one on top of the other like upside-down bowls made of the finest bone-white porcelain. With a muffled grunt and a great deal of effort the mushroom came free of the tree it had rooted to and the child stumbled backwards with her prize.
Naruto stepped forward as noisily as he dared to let her know someone was around and put a hand out to keep her form falling to the ground
“Hey need any help?”
At that point Sasuke lost faith in his dobe altogether. He silently jumped down from the branch and crouched behind a boulder to watch and save his dobe if need be.
The girl spun around and looked into Naruto’s blue eyes with her violet ones and what came next took the newest ANBU ninja by surprise. Her eyes seemed to draw him forward into some strange place.
The sky and everything in the meadow was grey with only the barest hint of color even though it was early morning and the sun gave no warmth. Naruto found himself walking toward a group of women in the middle who had no faces and wore plain white dresses. Each woman had black ribbons trailing form their wrists and each looked to be kind of old or too young.
As he went through the crowd he could see two splashes of color in the middle of the crowd one was the girl he’d seen in the forest with violet eyes and black hair only she was wearing a ceremonial Kimono and was holding onto to someone else.
The other person was a girl close to his age with short cut black hair, violet eyes and a headband with a marking he couldn’t recognize, a ninja obviously. Both girls had red ribbons tied to their wrists and the dead seemed to look fondly at them.
Cherry blossoms filled the air, staining everything with their color and the other ninja reached out and pointed at his chest. Chakra danced on her fingers in a vibrant green hue that seemed to have a life of its own.
“I won’t let you take her from me.”
The blossoms plunged at Naruto’s heart even as he leaped backwards and broke eye contact.
Time seemed to crawl to a stop for the blond. Leaves were falling without wind and were as flat as freshly made paper with glistening edges like so many kunai. And above him in the trees, hidden only by the light from the sun was a ninja. Her hair was black like the little girls. And those piercing violet eyes bored into his very being as if she could pierce his heart with her feeling. Just like he’d seen her in the vision only this was real.
The girl dropped her mushroom and leaped at Naruto with surprising speed for a nine year old... Arms, legs and even her hair wrapped around his torso like a living shield keeping his throwing arm pinned to his side.
“Azami, no! He’s nice, I like him, and he smells like ramen!”
TBC…
