Chapter Five

Warning Yaoi (boy x boy relationships) don’t read if you don’t like it.

AN: Thank you for the support of this story. Oh and FYI, Itachi’s reincarnated version is not a psychopath. He’s just too smexy to be a bad guy. This chapter isn’t as heart wrenching as the previous ones but I hope it still entertains you. I thought it would be too emo to have every chapter be so emotionally charged. Oh and Jiraiya never died in my universe.

What Dreams May Come

Chapter Five

“I’m taking you home.”

Sasuke lifted almost dead eyes to the blonde boy standing in front of him. Even after three years, he still wore horrid orange clothes. If he had the energy, he would have berated the boy at the thought of a shinobi wearing such eye catching clothes. Sasuke slowly blinked his eyes. He didn’t even have the energy to offer a retort. Not that he cared anyway. Itachi lay dead beside him, his body growing cold and stiff. He had killed his brother. Now, he truly was the last Uchiha. He tried to care but he didn’t feel anything, couldn‘t feel anything.

“Why do you care, Naruto.” asked Sasuke.

“I made a promise and I never go back on my word.” whispered Naruto as he knelt beside his long time friend and rival.

“I’m dead, Naruto. There is nothing to keep me in this world.”

“Don’t say that, bastard. Not when so many care about you. Sakura, Kakashi-sensei,…me.” whispered Naruto.

“Why do you care. I nearly killed you that day.” asked Sasuke.

“But you didn’t.”

“My brother is dead, I killed him with my own hands. I killed my own flesh and blood. What makes you think I care about anything?”

“Sasuke…”

“Naruto, I’m so tired.” said Sasuke as he closed his eyes and leaned on the blonde.

“Sasuke…I’ll take care of you.” whispered Naruto as his arms came around the raven. “That’s a promise.”

Sasuke’s eyes shot open. The dream was still circulating through his mind. The blonde boy that had haunted his dreams for so many years bore an amazing resemblance to his professor. Always before, the name was deafened. He could never hear it. He longed for a name to give the boy that had become a part of his life through his dreams. Now he had a name and it was the same as his professor.

“Naruto.” murmured Sasuke, enjoying the feel of the name on his tongue.

‘Thank heavens it wasn’t one of the other dreams.’ thought Sasuke, feeling a blush spread across his cheeks. It was bad enough that he had wet dreams on a regular basis, but the thought of going to class having cried out the name of his teacher during an orgasm would be personally humiliating. He wouldn’t have been able to look the man in the eye.

Rolling over with a groan, Sasuke curled around a large body pillow. He didn’t know why, but ever since he was small he had felt the need to sleep with another person. It got to the point where he couldn’t sleep at all if he was alone. His mother had suggested a body pillow. Sasuke had tried it and had instantly fallen in love with the large pillow. It simulated another person close enough that he could sleep at night. His brother, Itachi, had snickered at the sight and never failed to tease his little brother about his sleep aid.

Sasuke began to doze off, snuggled against his body sized pillow. As if on cue, Sasuke’s cell phone rang. He decided to ignore it. Whomever it was could call back later. The ringing stopped as his voice mail picked up the call. Thirty seconds later, the ringing began again. Growling, Sasuke grabbed the phone from the bedside table and glanced at the number. Itachi.

“Its six in the morning.” growled Sasuke into the phone.

“Good morning to you too, little brother.” purred Itachi into the phone. Sasuke for a moment considered tossing the phone out the window. How his brother could sound so chipper at six was beyond him.

“How have classes been?” asked Itachi

“Fine.”

“Are you eating?”

“Yes”

“Meet any cute girls?”

“No”

“Any cute guys?”

“…”

“I’ll take that as a yes.” smirked Itachi. He really did love teasing his little brother. Sasuke made it so easy.

“Shut up, Itachi. What do you want?” asked Sasuke.

“I’ll be in town in two weeks and I want us to go out. Don’t make any plans for Saturday two weeks from now.” said Itachi.

“What if I already have plans?”

“Don’t make me laugh, Sasuke. We both know you are socially retarded.” snorted Itachi.

“Hn”

“See you then.”

“Bye, ‘Tachi.” said Sasuke.

Hanging up the phone, Sasuke rolled out of bed and walked towards the bathroom. He couldn’t blame Itachi for being concerned about his well being. Their parents had died in a car crash with a drunk driver. Itachi had been driving and had come out with only a concussion and minor lacerations. The guilt had nearly driven him insane, even though there was nothing he could have done.

Sasuke had always felt inferior to his brother for his entire life. His father always praised Itachi’s accomplishments while pointing out Sasuke‘s weaknesses. The fact that Itachi had graduated from university at sixteen and was one of the highest paid defense attorneys in the country had only made Sasuke push himself harder for his father’s attention and acknowledgment. The car crash destroyed any hope Sasuke had for winning the approval of his father.

In the end, sixteen year old Itachi had taken over guardianship of eleven year old Sasuke. It had been a hard first year. The pain only brought them closer together. They grew extremely close as brothers. Sasuke began to respect his brother and all he did to keep their tiny family together. No longer was Itachi a rival for their father’s affections, now he was just his brother.

Sasuke stepped from the shower, dressed in a dark blue shirt and khaki trousers, and sat at the small breakfast bar, eating a bagel and drinking his morning tea. It was still too early to leave for the university but thanks to his annoying older brother, he was now wide awake. Imagining ways to murder his brother without being caught, Sasuke finished his breakfast and set about gathering his books for the classes. He felt a little twinge in his gut. He wouldn’t get to see the attractive blonde history professor today. Clenching his hand into a fist, Sasuke pushed all thoughts of Uzumaki Naruto from his mind. He didn’t have time to daydream about the man.

Sasuke’s apartment was only five blocks from the school. Since he had time, he strolled slowly down the streets towards the university. He was in no rush and the morning was too nice not to notice. He didn’t understand why he was in such a good mood though anyone looking at him wouldn’t have seen through the impassive Uchiha mask.

“Sasuke-kun!” yelled a voice from behind him. If Sasuke was the type to audibly sigh, he would have. The annoying pink haired girl was really starting to get on his nerves. Every time he turned around the previous day, she and her blonde haired companion were skulking nearby. It seemed every girl on the campus wanted to get into his pants. He knew he was attractive, but he couldn’t see the reasoning behind the stalking.

“Sakura” Sasuke acknowledged, not one to shame his mother by forgetting his manners.

“Sasuke-kun, you remembered my name. It must be fate.” purred Sakura as she latched onto his arm.

Sasuke shrugged off the arm and walked on towards the school, doing his best to ignore the girl following close behind. The one girl became two and then three. Sasuke paled at the mob that had rapidly formed behind him. Looking for some place to hide, his eyes darted back and forth.

“Get in.” called a familiar voice.

Sasuke glanced towards the voice. Sitting in a black convertible was the man that he had just pushed to the back burner. Blue eyes crinkled with humor at the impassive Uchiha face and Sasuke felt a vein throb in his temple. It was as if he wasn’t wearing his normal stoic mask. It was as if the blonde could see right through to the real him.

“Are you coming or should I just go on to school and let the mob have their way with you?” Naruto asked, his grin getting wider with every second. He knew it was bordering on stalker behavior but he had sent a disguised clone to watch Sasuke’s apartment in order to ascertain when he left for school. He decided what Sasuke didn’t know couldn’t hurt him.

Sasuke decided to go with the lesser of the two evils and opened the car door. Sliding into the soft leather seat, he buckled up and Naruto sped towards the school, leaving the mob of angry, man hungry women behind. Sighing, Sasuke leaned his head back against the leather head rest and shut his eyes.

Feeling the gaze of the blonde, Sasuke cracked open his eyes and glanced at Naruto.

“What?” asked Sasuke.

“Nothing, I just…” Naruto slammed on the breaks to keep from running the traffic light they had come up on. Sasuke was flung forward, only held in place by his safety belt.

“Watch the road not me, idiot.” growled Sasuke.

“That’s a fine way to show your appreciation for someone that saved you from being gang raped, teme.” pouted Naruto.

“Well if you weren’t such a dobe, I wouldn’t have to tell you how to drive.” retorted Sasuke.

Naruto’s breath caught in his throat. A blush spread across his cheeks. It was almost as if there hadn’t been a millennia since they had sat like this. The sound of Sasuke’s voice was just the same. The way he glared at Naruto was exactly the same. The only thing missing were the memories.

‘I suppose we will have to make new ones.’ Naruto thought to himself as he regained control.

“Well it’s your fault that I was distracted.” said Naruto with a grin. He knew what was about to come.

“Dobe.”

“Teme.”

“Idiot.”

“Asshole.”

“Moron.”

“Bastard.”

“Hn” asked Sasuke with a glare.

Naruto grinned a wide grin, only someone well versed in Sasuke body language could detect the pout in that glare. ‘The match goes to Uzumaki Naruto.’ Naruto silently gave himself a high five. He thought it better to cheer only in his mind in order to not anger the raven. At least, not until they had been around each other a little longer.

Naruto pulled into one of the staff parking spaces and killed the engine. For a moment Sasuke simply sat unmoving. Naruto made no move to leave the car or speak. Just being beside Sasuke was enough. Finally, Sasuke reached for his book bag and opened the door.

“Thanks for the help, Uzumaki-sensei” said Sasuke, a faint blush stealing across his cheeks.

“Naruto. My name is Naruto.”

“I’m not sure…”

“Please.”

“Fine…Naruto.” said Sasuke before shutting the door and walking to his first class of the morning. Naruto sat for a long time replaying the sound of his name on Sasuke’s lips through his mind. Shivers ran through his body and he was immensely glad that Sasuke hadn’t seen the raging erection that had made itself known when his name passed over his lips. Just his name on Sasuke’s lips and he was a needy lump of mush.

Naruto leaned his head back until the burning in his loin’s dissipated. Whining low in his throat and choosing to ignore the cackling of Kyuubi, Naruto grabbed his briefcase and trotted towards his office.

‘Shut the fuck up, you pervy fox.’ muttered Naruto to himself.

“Uzumaki-sensei” called Dean Nemoto. Naruto glanced across the quad towards the café. The dean gestured for him to join him.

“Good Morning, Dean Nemoto.” smiled Naruto.

“Naruto, come join me for breakfast. There are some people I want you to meet.”

“Alright. Good morning, Yuki-chan.” called Naruto to the elderly woman wiping down the counter.

“Good morning, Naruto-san. I’ll bring your tea to the table.” she said before turning to enter the kitchen.

“Naruto, I’d like you to meet Umino Iruka, Hatake Kakashi, and Sannin Jiraiya. Iruka-sensei will be taking over the history department so you will get to see a lot of him. Kakashi-sensei is the new head of the mathematics department and Jiraiya-san is the new dean of student affairs.” said Dean Nemoto.

“It’s nice to meet you.” smiled Naruto. His old teachers. Here they sat looking physically the same as when he had last seen them. It took all his willpower not to throw himself into Iruka-sensei’s arms. He looked the same as he had, even down the to scar across his nose and the brown hair pulled up on top of his head. Even Kakashi with his eye patch was a sight for sore eyes. He wasn’t sure if he would be able to contain himself if he stayed in their presence for much longer. He was afraid he would burst into tears of happiness then proceed to cause them to think him crazy.

“Hey kid, you look familiar.” commented Jiraiya, leaning forward to get a better look at Naruto. “Have we met?”

“Maybe in another life.” said Naruto, as he looked fondly at the white haired man. After all, it was because of Jiraiya that he was able to cope with the first hundred years after Sasuke died.

“Jiraiya, Naruto is dying before my eyes and I can’t do a thing to help him. No matter what I say, he is becoming more despondent.” said Tsunade, tears filling her eyes.

“Can you talk to him? Please Jiraiya. I don’t want to lose my little brother again.” she begged.

“I’ll see what I can do, Tsunade-hime.” answered the toad sage before exiting through the window of the Hokage’s office to search out Naruto.

He didn’t have to look far. Naruto was curled up in his and Sasuke’s bed, wrapped up in one of Sasuke’s yukatas. The normally bright blonde hair was dull from lack of washing and his eyes looked nearly dead. Jiraiya’s heart broke at the sight. To think that a few weeks ago, the boy had been a ray of sunshine in Konoha. Sasuke’s death was really hitting him hard.

“Hey, kid.” said Jiraiya, settling himself down on the bed.

“…He won’t let me die.” whispered Naruto, curling deeper into Sasuke’s scent.

“Who?”

“Kyuubi.”

“He’s healing you?”

“No, you don’t fucking get it. I CAN‘T EVER DIE. He told me.” shouted Naruto, finally showing some emotion other than sadness.

“Ever?” asked Jiraiya, his eyes widening. Naruto began to whimper, burying himself once again.

“I won’t ever die.”

“Hmm, I didn’t know the fox had that much power.” mused Jiraiya.

“Sasuke…” whimpered Naruto.

Jiraiya sat there for a few minutes. An idea popped into his head.

“Naruto, would you like to go stay in the Toad village for a while. I’ll have to clear it with Gamabunta but I don’t foresee a problem.” asked Jiraiya. ‘Staying with the toads might be just what Naruto needs’ thought Jiraiya.

“What about Tsunade-baa-chan?” asked Naruto, his eyes losing some of the dead look.

“Don’t worry about her. I can handle Tsunade-hime.”

“Ero-sennin… Thank you.”

“OH, look at the time.” said Kakashi, glancing at his watch with a grin, stood and strolled out of the café at a leisurely pace. Iruka sighed and proceeded to rub the bridge of his nose with two fingers.

“What’s wrong?” asked Dean Nemoto.

“His class started ten minutes ago.” said Iruka. Naruto burst out laughing, tears were rolling down his face by the time he had calmed down.

“I wonder what excuse he will make up for that?” grinned Naruto.

“You sound like you know him.” said Iruka.

“Just a hunch. He reminds me of a sensei I had when I was a child.” said Naruto.

“Honestly, the man is going to be late for his own funeral.” commented Iruka.

“Yep, but I can’t wait to see the excuse for why.” laughed Naruto.

Iruka smiled at the blonde. For some reason, the moment he had stepped into the café, the mood seemed lighter. A feeling of joy seemed to follow the young professor. Iruka was glad that such an individual was in his department. He obviously brought warmth to those around him.

The rest of the breakfast continued, the four of them parting ways afterward. Naruto grinned as he made his way towards his office. This was a very good day. This was the first day that death hadn’t been a part of his thoughts for even a second.

Naruto strolled into the history department, pausing by Kazu’s desk for any messages.

“Uzumaki-sensei. The new school president is in your office.” said Kazu.

“Eh? We have a new president?” asked Naruto.

“Didn’t you get the memo a few weeks ago?” asked Kazu.

“No, I guess I better go see what he wants. Thanks Kazu.” said Naruto and opened the door to his office.

Sitting behind his desk was Tsunade. Naruto knew his eyebrows were in his hairline. ‘Figures the old hag would take the job of president of the university.’ snorted Naruto to himself. Some things never change. It looked like even Tsunade’s reincarnated form would be bossing him around the same as her past incarnation.
