05) The treaty
Tsunade stared at scroll that Kakashi had handed her. It was pretty clear why the copy nin had decided to return here because Sasuke wasn´t going to give up any of his demands.
Kakashi couldn´t possibly accept the Uchiha´s terms without his Hokage´s approval and Tsunade wasn´t even sure if she could make that kind of decision herself. The three names on Sasuke´s list were powerful and important citizens of Konoha, and even though she hated their guts she wasn´t sure if she had the right to seal their doom.
“When did he want an answer?”she asked the masked nin who had fished out his book and started reading.
“He will stay in a small city called Uragaesu-toshi a few days travel west of here but he will leave if we haven´t returned within a month, Hokage-sama.”
“I see…I need time to think this through. I will call upon you as soon as I have made up my mind.” She sighed loudly and wondered what Sarutobi or Minato would have done in a situation like this.
“Um…Tsunade-sama?”
“Yes, Kakashi?”
“…I really want to save Naruto´s life and all but…Is this really the right way to do it?” He looked so serious that Tsunade wondered what he would have done in her stead… but it really didn´t matter what he would have done since she was the Hokage, and she would have to make that decision on her own.
“Well that is what I am going to try to figure out.”

Sakura went to see Naruto, to tell him that Sasuke was within reach even though his demands were a bit farfetched, and she noticed that Hinata was already there, leaning heavily against the cold ice.
“Hinata-chan?” the medic stepped closer and reached out to touch the slightly older girl´s shoulder. “Are you alr-” Hinata collapsed at her touch and thankfully Sakura´s reflexes were fast enough that she was able to catch the Hyuuga girl before she hit the hard floor.
“Sorry… I´m not f-feeling too well… flu…no v-viral infection,” the girl with the lavender colored eyes whimpered in Sakura´s embrace. Her skin was burning hot and the dark bags under her pale eyes made Hinata look much older than she really was,
“…” the pink haired girl lifted the way too light girl up and saw something orange flare inside the lavender colored eyes which made he want to let go of the slightly younger girl. Sakura didn´t like what she saw and ran as fast as she could to the upper levels, calling for Tsunade and Shizune to come the ward.
Something was terribly wrong with Hinata and Sakura knew that it wasn´t the common flu or a viral infection that was at play here.

Sasuke allowed himself a trip to the local Onsen to unwind a bit. His entire body was trembling in anticipation. Konoha had a week left to return here with the signed list of his demand and he had a hard time waiting for their answer.
He knew that they had no other chance than to do whatever he wanted because he was the only one would had the power to fix Naruto. It would only be a matter of time before they would come running and then…and then he would have everything he had ever wanted.

Tsunade groaned in defeat as the result of Hinata´s tests were handed to her. Sakura´s hunch had been right, the Hyuuga heir didn´t have the flu or a viral infection but something way more serious.
“How is my daughter?” Hiashi asked the frowning Hokage. As a member of the council and Hinata´s father he knew that had a right to be informed about his oldest child´s condition. No one had been willing to tell him anything and only Tsunade´s most trusted medics had been allowed to go near his precious daughter.
“…Hiashi-san…” the Hokage sighed softly after rechecking the data on the sheet of paper in her hands.
“What is wrong?” the clan leader said in growing concern. He had known Tsunade too long to know that this was bad and that this involved something that certain council members’ wouldn´t like to hear. “Please tell me what is wrong with Hinata.”
“Join me in my office, Hiashi-san.”

Sakura gave her former sensei a nod when she ran into Kakashi outside the Hokage´s office. It seemed that Tsunade had finally made up her mind and that Sakura, Kakashi and Kiba were the three man cell who would meet Sasuke and seal the deal.
Kakashi knocked on the door and waited till he heard the Hokage´s voice, giving them permission to enter the messy office.
“Hokage-sama, my team and I are at your service-” he suddenly noticed that Tsunade wasn´t alone, and the silver haired man couldn´t help but to wonder if this man´s presence would complicate things. “Hiashi-san, my apologies, I didn´t notice you.”
“Come inside and close the door behind you,” the blonde woman groaned in a strained tone. She seemed tired and at the end of her patience. “Have a seat and I´ll explain the mission to you.”
The three Jounin sat down next to a very silent Hiashi and felt a bit uneasy to have a member of the council present.
“Hinata is pregnant,” the busty Hokage said which earned her the attention of team Kakashi.
“I-Is it N-Naruto´s?” Sakura asked with a trembling voice. She had always liked her blonde teammate, and respected his dreams and nindo… and she had kinda hoped that she would be the one to bear his children, but it seemed that Hinata had beat her to it. Sakura had wanted to be there when Tsunade had examined Hinata but had been asked to leave so that she would be ready for her upcoming mission, so she had no clue what was going on.
“Yes but that isn´t the problem,” Tsunade said and poured herself and Hiashi a strong drink which the Hyuuga gulped down as soon as the ceramic cup was handed to him. “Hinata has been poisoned by the Kyuubi´s chakra, just like you expected Sakura-chan.”
“…What does that mean for her?” Kiba asked with a worried tone while the pink haired medic gasped. She hadn´t been sure if she what she saw in Hinata´s eyes were real or just her mind playing a trick on her… but it seemed that she really had seen a hint of red chakra reflected in the pale orbs.
“W-Will she…” Kiba couldn´t ask if his cherished teammate was going to die, his heart couldn´t bear it. “Will she be alright?”
“…Well for a starter she felt sick because of her pregnancy which is the normal part. But the fact is that Hinata´s immune system has been weakened because the Kyuubi´s chakra is draining all of her chakra and bodily resources to support the child´s growth,” Tsunade told them. “It is probably some kind of demonic percussion to make sure that the infant will grow stronger faster and ensure its survival… even if it will end up draining the mother. I don´t know why but it might be caused by the fact that Naruto was possessed by the demon during the…fertilization and that Hinata hasn´t been taking care of herself by eating or sleeping properly after Naruto was sealed inside the ice.”
“What about the unborn child?” Kakashi asked even though he knew that the questions that would follow wouldn´t make anyone happy. “Is the child a demon?”
“Frankly I don´t know,” the Hokage admitted and sighed loudly when she felt the urge to have another drink. “Hinata´s body is being shielded by the Kyuubi´s chakra so that we couldn´t do more than a few basic tests without getting our hands burned…and that of course also means that we can´t terminate the pregnancy either… and I doubt that Hinata would let us even try.”
“…So what can we do to save her… can´t we at least remove the Kyuubi´s chakra-”
“We need Naruto to do that,” Hiashi suddenly said. “We have tried to drain the fox´s chakra but Hinata refuses to let us because she fears that it might hurt the baby… She told me that she would be willing to give her life if it meant that Naruto-kun would finally get the family he longed for but never had… and that she would never allow us to kill the baby, no matter what.” A sob escaped the proud man and team Kakashi suddenly understood why he was here; he was going to help them to get Sasuke back.
“We believe that Naruto will be able to save Hinata´s life by dispelling the red chakra inside of Hinata´s body but we have to act fast. She is five months into the pregnancy which leaves us with precious little time to do what is necessary to save her life.” The Hokage informed them. “And removing the cursed chakra would also make it possible for us to determine if the child poses a threat to Hinata´s life or Konoha.”
“So to save Hinata we first have to save Naruto,” Kiba summed up the facts. “And save Naruto we need Sasuke.”

Sasuke welcomed them with a satisfied smirk when team Kakashi and Hiashi met with him a few days later. He had preordered tea for all of the then as soon as he had felt them approaching and lead them to the back of the small restaurant that had become his favorite during the month he had stayed in the small city.
He was polite in his own reserved way; there was no reason for him to piss them off today. He knew why they were here and even though he was superior to them in any way he still wanted to make this as easy for himself as possible. Once he was back in Konoha he would have to be around these people regularly, and it would just be less annoying if they weren´t pissed at him.
Naruto would surely be pleased too and a pleased Dobe was more fun that an angry one, even if anger and passion were intertwined and the passion was something that the raven was looking forward to.
Sasuke had used the time spent in this city to plan as many of his future moves as possible. He had played the different kind of scenarios inside his mind to figure out which approach would be the most sufficient from his point of view. The raven had come to the conclusion that he would play nicely with the Konohans but still keep his distance… and as long as they did the same everything would be just peachy.
The people of Konoha didn´t interest him, and there were only four people that really mattered. Three of them he wanted to kill and the forth one he wanted all to himself.
“Uchiha-san,” Hiashi said and offered the younger man a polite bow. “My name is Hyuuga Hiashi, leader of the Hyuuga clan and member of the council… I am here to tell you that the Hokage and I accept you demands.”
“Thank you, it pleases me to hear that,” the Uchiha offered the Hyuuga a polite bow in return and invited him to take a seat opposite him. “I appreciate that someone as honorable like you come to represent the Hokage. I am aware that she can´t leave the city to go and meet with a nuke nin.”
“Former nuke nin,” Hiashi corrected. “I have made sure that your record has been erased and your name cleared. You will be a leaf nin the second you step through the gates.”
“Thank you,” Sasuke said and smirked. This was going better than he had expected. They really must be desperate to get the Dobe back if they had already begun to fulfill his conditions for returning to the city. “So you really do accept my demands then.”
“Indeed but before I will sign the scroll beneath the Hokage´s signature to validate our agreement I have to inform you of a few rules that Tsunade-sama expects you to follow when you come back.”
“Oh?” the Uchiha asked. This was more like what he had expected. He would have been uncomfortable if they hadn´t wanted him to agree to some of their terms, he was asking for a lot and no real Kage would accept a deal like this without setting some kind of rules. “Let me see what she wants and then we can see if we have a deal or not.”
Kakashi rolled out the scroll so that they could have a look at its contents. The first thing written down was the Uchiha´s demands.
1# The name Uchiha Sasuke will be erased from the ANBU bingo book and will regain status as a free shinobi and be given the rank of Jounin, and be given back all estates, valuables and scrolls that rightfully belongs to the Uchiha clan.
2# The truth behind the massacre of the Uchiha clan will be revealed and made public. The name of Uchiha Itachi will be cleared and his name will be carved into the monument of the fallen shinobi.
3# Uchiha Sasuke will hereby get the permission to hunt down and kill Danzou, Mitokado Homura and Utatane Koharu for the crimes they committed against the Uchiha clan.
4# No restraints of any kind is to be placed on Uchiha Sasuke that will affect his chakra, skill or movement or the deal is off.
5# Uzumaki Naruto will move into the Uchiha compound to be within Uchiha Sasuke´s reach at all times.
“So these are your demands and here are ours,” Hiashi and pointed to the rules that he and Tsunade had come up with to ensure Konoha´s safety.
1# Uchiha Sasuke has already been reinstated as a Konoha shinobi with the rank of Chuunin and will be allowed to prove himself at this year´s Jounin exam. All prior records has been erased which means that Uchiha Sasuke is a free man and the rightful owner of what valuables and scrolls that survived Konoha´s near destruction and that used to belong to the Uchiha clan.
2# An official statement about the truth behind Uchiha Itachi´s reasons will be given once Uzumaki Naruto is back at full health.
3# Permission to hunt and punish Danzou, Mitokado Homura and Utatane Koharu for the crimes they committed against the Uchiha clan will be granted as long as no mess or evidence will be left behind that can be linked to anyone inside of Konoha or any of Konoha´s allied nations. It would be preferable if said targets just were to disappear without a trace.
4# There will be no restraints towards Uchiha Sasuke as long said shinobi follows the laws of Konoha-gakure and follows the Hokage´s rules.
5# Uzumaki Naruto will not be forced to move in with anyone. He will have to decide for himself where he wants to live, and no harm; psychical or mental towards him or anyone linked to him will be tolerated.
If any of these rules will be broken, the Hokage will be in her good right to carry out any fitting punishment.

Sasuke raised a black brow at the last rule before he gave Kakashi and Hiashi a sour look. “I can´t accept the last term.”
“Why not?” Hiashi asked and it was pretty clear that he wasn´t the only one who was upset by the raven´s refusal.
“It´s not that I want to hurt the Dobe on purpose but him and me are bound to get into a fight, that is just who we are. Some people argue when they´re upset, we fight physically… and I will defend myself if anyone attacks me, no matter who it might be.”
“…I see,” Hiashi muttered in agreement. He changed the last paragraph so that it allowed the possibility of sparring and of course self defense. When they both were satisfied with the end result Sasuke and Hiashi signed the scroll before Kakashi and Sakura signed it as witnesses. Kakashi them made a copy for the Hokage because Sasuke insisted upon keeping the original.
“Alright, I guess this means that we can return to Konoha and free Naruto-kun from his icy prison,” Kakashi said and felt relieved that things had gone smoother than expected, though he was pretty sure that the Uchiha wouldn´t going to be pleased when he heard that Hinata was carrying Naruto´s child and that Naruto would probably prefer to move in with her rather than to move in with Sasuke.
´This is only the first step of many… and I wonder what is yet to come, ` the silver haired Jounin wondered before they left the city of Uragaesu-toshi to return to Konoha and a future filled with new problems that would need to be solved before there could be a happy end… if such was even a possibility.

3# Permission to hunt and punish Danzou, Mitokado Homura and Utatane Koharu for the crimes they committed against the Uchiha clan will be granted as long as no mess or evidence will be left behind that can be linked to anyone inside of Konoha or any of Konoha´s allied nations. It would be preferable if said targets just were to disappear without a trace.
4# There will be no restraints towards Uchiha Sasuke as long said shinobi follows the laws of Konoha-gakure and follows the Hokage´s rules.
5# Uzumaki Naruto will not be forced to move in with anyone. He will have to decide for himself where he wants to live, and no harm; psychical or mental towards him or anyone linked to him will be tolerated.
If any of these rules will be broken, the Hokage will be in her good right to carry out any fitting punishment.

Sasuke raised a black brow at the last rule before he gave Kakashi and Hiashi a sour look. “I can´t accept the last term.”
“Why not?” Hiashi asked and it was pretty clear that he wasn´t the only one who was upset by the raven´s refusal.
“It´s not that I want to hurt the Dobe on purpose but him and me are bound to get into a fight, that is just who we are. Some people argue when they´re upset, we fight physically… and I will defend myself if anyone attacks me, no matter who it might be.”
“…I see,” Hiashi muttered in agreement. He changed the last paragraph so that it allowed the possibility of sparring and of course self defense. When they both were satisfied with the end result Sasuke and Hiashi signed the scroll before Kakashi and Sakura signed it as witnesses. Kakashi them made a copy for the Hokage because Sasuke insisted upon keeping the original.
“Alright, I guess this means that we can return to Konoha and free Naruto-kun from his icy prison,” Kakashi said and felt relieved that things had gone smoother than expected, though he was pretty sure that the Uchiha wouldn´t going to be pleased when he heard that Hinata was carrying Naruto´s child and that Naruto would probably prefer to move in with her rather than to move in with Sasuke.
´This is only the first step of many… and I wonder what is yet to come, ` the silver haired Jounin wondered before they left the city of Uragaesu-toshi to return to Konoha and a future filled with new problems that would need to be solved before there could be a happy end… if such was even a possibility.
