Chapter 4: Kyuubi-training
A/N: Well, that took an insane amount of time, sorry for that. I've been terribly busy, and I've rewritten this chapter at least 5 times with totally different directions for the story to go before I found the one I wanted. It's hard if you know where you want the story to go but you have no idea how to get there xD
It had been one hell of a day. First, they had passed the second test of the chuunin exam, and then right after that, they had to fight preliminaries for the third test, for which they luckily had a month to prepare. Although Sakura hadn't succeeded in winning her battle against Ino, both Naruto and Sasuke had quite easily won theirs. But both boys knew that this was where it would really get complicated. Naruto's opponent was Hyuuga Neji, the strongest genin from the year above them, and Sasuke's opponent was Gaara, the fearsome boy from the Suna, who had crushed Lee's arm and leg without even blinking. Of course, this meant that both boys were more than eager to train their asses off the next month, but Kakashi had a different plan.
"Boys, I need you to come with me to the Hokage's office right away. There is a very important matter that we need to discuss." Kakashi said.
When they had arrived, the Hokage explained why they were called in. "Sasuke, Naruto, I have called you here to explain to you how unique and dangerous the situation you are in is. As you know all too well, you have somehow been connected. On top of that, Naruto, as you know, you are the Kyuubi vessel, making you one of the most powerful shinobis in this village. And Sasuke, first of all, you are an Uchiha, which also makes you one of the strongest. But now, just when we were starting to get a grip on this situation, the dynamics have changed. Sasuke was infected with Orochimaru's cursed seal, a very dangerous affliction which he luckily is able to withstand for now. Kakashi has sealed off the curse, but the seal is only as effective as your willpower, Sasuke. If you falter for just the tiniest of moments, it will take over and you will play right into Orochimaru's hand. There is good news, though. We have concluded that the cursed seal does not affect Naruto, and that the Kyuubi most likely will not just merge with Sasuke. So now that we have all the information about the consequences of your conditions, we have thought of what to do next. Sasuke, you will go with Kakashi to train for a month, and Anko will be there to teach you about the cursed seal and monitor you. Naruto, we have no training for you as of now, but I happen to know that a certain ex-student of mine is in town at the moment. You will probably be able to find him at the hot springs. He will need some convincing, but I have faith that you will be able to get him to teach you."
"Why does Sasuke get to go with Kakashi-sensei, I want to train with him!" Naruto pouted.
"Because I am the only other shinobi in Konoha that can teach him about using the sharingan, and I have a technique that I can teach to him, but not to you, Naruto."
"But I have sharingan too, you should train me to use them as well."
"While that is true, your sharingan has not been used enough for you to be able to use it at the level that Sasuke can. Also, the teacher that Hokage-sama has in mind will be able to teach you some things that Sasuke isn't able to learn, so this is how it will be. I will teach you about the sharingan another time."
"Fine." Naruto said, a little bit more cheerful but still not that happy. "How will I recognize him?"
"Can you believe it? The guy that is supposed to train me, is a pervert looking through a hole in the fence between the men and women bathing areas." Naruto said to Sasuke, while they were walking home.
"Hn."
"Anyway, if he really was a student of the third he must have some awesome techniques, so it'll be fine. How is the cursed seal, Sasuke?"
"It hurts, but nothing I can't handle." the raven answered. "It's really annoying though, having this huge power, but not being able to use it."
"Please, Sasuke, promise me not to use it. It's too dangerous, there's no telling what Orochimaru wants from you."
"Hn."
"Promise?"
"I can't promise something like that, Naruto. I can promise it for right now, but if I need the power to kill my brother, I will use it."
"But what will you do afterwards Sasuke? What if you kill Itachi, but you have turned into Orochimaru's slave? How will you be able to revive your clan then?"
"Trust me Naruto, it is the worst case scenario. I do want to revive my clan, but, me being gay and all, that is almost as challenging as killing Itachi. If I have to choose, I will kill Itachi, any means possible."
"I have said it before and I will say it again now and every time you utter something this stupid ever again Sasuke, I am going to help you get stronger, I am going to help you kill Itachi, and I will kick your ass if you use this cursed seal." Naruto said angrily.
"You, kick my ass? If that ever happens, I will know that I am so weak that I need to use the seal."
"I'm serious Sasuke! And I'm sick of you underestimating me like that!"
"It's not underestimating, it's being realistic."
"I'm done talking with you Sasuke. I'll see you in a month and then I will kick your ass." Naruto said, as he turned his back to Sasuke and walked away.
"Hn."
It had been a strange day. Naruto had met his teacher, Jiraiya, had eventually convinced him to be his teacher and the pervert had done something to his seal which he didn't really understand, but it made using chakra much easier. And now, Jiraiya was going to explain him some stuff about the Kyuubi.
"Ok Naruto, please try to pay attention, because this can really help you in the future. You know what is sealed inside you, right?"
"Uhm, well it is something... Uhm... Well it's a fox. And it has nine tails. And it's a monster."
"Almost right. It is indeed a nine tailed fox, but it's not a monster, it's a demon. The Kyuubi is an ancient being that in essence is a giant mass of evil chakra with a consciousness. When you were born, it was attacking the village. The fourth Hokage managed to seal it, or at least part of it, but he had to seal it inside of somebody, and you were the only option, since the seal he was using would cost him his own life."
"Ok, I guess..."
"Practically, this means that you have two different types of chakra inside of you: your own, and the Kyuubi's. You should have noticed that."
"Yeah, my own chakra feels different than the Kyuubi's. It's kinda like my own is blue, and the fox's is red."
"Good, that'll make things easier. What you need to learn right now, is to be able to use the Kyuubi's chakra at will. If you will be able to do that, you will have a much larger amount of chakra to use. You will need this for the technique I want you to learn."
"Awesome, what kind of technique? Fireballs?"
"No no, nothing like that. Something much better, but I'll show you once you've practiced on your Kyuubi control a bit. But first there is something else I need you to talk to you about. The Third has told me about what happened with you and Sasuke. He has also expressed some concerns about how this may affect the Kyuubi, so I have asked Kakashi to monitor things on their side of the connection. Probably, nothing will happen since the connection is with you, and not with the Kyuubi, but we will need to be sure anyway."
"Fine"
"So, Sasuke, what's on your mind? And don't say nothing, because I can tell." Kakashi said.
"Hn."
"Well, if you're not going to tell me, I'll just take a guess and say you're mad at Naruto because he is mad at you because you're thinking about using the cursed seal against Itachi."
"..." In a rare moment of facial expression, Sasuke's jaw dropped.
"I've said it before: I know my team members better than they think. However, I have to agree with Naruto on this one, that you are utterly stupid if you think that using the cursed seal will help you in any way. Believe me when I tell you that when you use it, you are simply throwing yourself at Orochimaru, and whatever he may say, he will not let you fight Itachi. I don't know what he wants you for, but I do know Orochimaru and he doesn't give a crap about what you want."
"I'll think about it."
"Fine. One more thing, I'm going to keep an close eye on you to see if there is any Kyuubi activity coming through the connection."
"Hn. Let's train."
Sasuke was in trouble. Of course, he would never admit it, but the situation was bad. He was fighting with Gaara of the sand, who had turned out to be a monster, and to make matters even worse, he had already used two chidori's. He knew that he shouldn't use another, but it was either that, our death. And that was definitely not an option.
Sasuke flew forward, charging his chidori. It was a direct hit, but he felt that something was wrong. Terribly wrong. He couldn't move, and he felt an intense pain in his neck.
"Sasuke, you bastard!" Naruto yelled, flying in and kicking Gaara. "We are going to talk later. But now, I'm going to kick that creepy guys ass!"
Once again, Sasuke's jaw had dropped. He had managed to hide it before anyone had seen it though. But damn, that Naruto had become strong. In fact, it made him feel like he himself hadn't become much stronger at all. If they were to fight now, he couldn’t possibly say for sure that he was going to win. And now Naruto was walking towards him, after having successfully defeated Gaara without even activating their connection.
"Sasuke, I have something to say. I know that for you, friendship isn't very important. I know you care more about being strong and revenge, but I don't. To me, our friendship is very important, and that is why I want you to promise me not to use the cursed seal anymore. Because seeing you fall into Orochimaru's web like that is terrible for me. I know that you couldn't care less, but for once, try to think about someone else. I promise you that I will find a way for you to get the strength you need. Hell, if that doesn't work, I will get stronger and kill him myself."
"No, it has to be me."
"Fine, then I'll do it this way: if you hand yourself over to Orochimaru, I will kill Itachi before you have the chance too."
"Hn. Like you could."
"Think of what you've just seen. I learned that in a month, and I didn't even use a fraction of the Kyuubi's full power."
"Ok, I will not use it! Stop whining about it."
"Teme."
"Dobe."
"Naruto! How do you feel about going on a trip with me?" Jiraiya said, entering the ramen-shop.
"Ero-sennin! What kind of trip?" Naruto replied with his mouth full.
"I need to go find a woman and I thought it would be nice to take you with me."
"Meh, I don't really feel like going on a perverted mission with you."
"Did I mention I will be training you? I've got an awesome technique for you to try and learn, but it's not going to be easy."
"Really? Let's go then!"
A/N: Well, this is where it starts to get interesting. Next chapter will be all about Itachi! What will his appearance do to Sasuke and Naruto? Just so you know, the story is really just getting started here, the next few chapter should really be awesome if they work out the way I want them. I can only say that it is my intention to make this story cover the entire length of the Naruto series, so there will be Akatsuki, there will be Madara/Tobi, but, as I get further into the story, I will diverge further from canon. After all, it's a Naruto/Sasuke story :p
