Hinata's Rain: That One Fond Memory
Hinata had stared into the eyes of her father for almost two minutes. Her entire body shook as she hovered over him, ready to send him straight to his grave. Hinata closed her eyes for a split second, listening to the rain fall rapidly around her and her friends. The rain...it reminded her of something special: her mother.
In her mind, a three-year-old Hinata ran throughout the large Hyuuga household until she arrived at two, large sliding doors. She opened them and began giggling.
"Okaachan...!"
She hurried over to the futon where her mother lay in a white kimono, her long, darkened hair streaming down her back. Her mother would always sit there in that lonesome room and stare out of that same window as if waiting for something. She turned her head with a saddened smile, looking at her young child.
"Hinata-Chan...you're all wet."
"MM!" Hinata nodded with a smile as if she were proud of that.
Hinata kneeled down and looked out of the window.
"Okaachan, it's raining! Let's go outside!"
Shioriko laughed a little at her daughter.
"What? Why?"
"Because....um..."
"Because it would get you out of this room, Shiori-Chan."
Hinata turned around smiling at her father who was standing there, his long hair streaking straight down his face. Shioriko looked at her husband in surprise. He was usually so serious. She shook her head with a small sigh and went back to looking out of the window.
"No, I'll stay inside."
Hiashi looked at his wife and child and made a split second decision. Shioriko's eyes widened and her snapped around when she felt her husband grab her wrist and yank her upwards and into his arms.
"HI...HIASHI?!"
"Hyakku, Hinata-Chan!"
Hinata quickly stood up and followed her father as he led them into the courtyard where the rain was falling hard.
"HIASHI STOP!" Shioriko squealed.
But it was too late. Hiashi, Hinata and Shiroiko were soaked by the rain. Hinata giggled as she tugged on her mother's kimono with the biggest grin she could muster.
"Isn't this fun?"
Shioriko looked at her husband who was wearing a unique smile. For a moment, all of her sadness was completely gone. She smiled. A genuine, happy smile and nodded.
"Yes, yes it is!"
Hiashi sat her down and proceeded to pick up Hinata high in the air with a smile. Hinata giggled as the rain washed over them and squealed happily. Upon sitting her down, she ran to a nearby puddle and began splashing her parents.
"Gotcha, okaachan, outochan!"
"Hey...! Hinata-Chan...!" Shioriko laughed.
For the next hour, the parents and the child spent the rest of the time splashing in the rain, not caring what anyone thought. It was also the first time...that Hiashi and Shiroiko had slept together on the same futon and Hiashi kissed Hinata goodnight before going to bed...
When Naruto noticed Hinata had began crying, he kneeled beside her as she remained hovering her father.
"It...it's only because of that memory...I...I can't kill you..."
She sat backwards, biting her lip and turned her face upwards, her tears mixing with the rain. She deactivated her Byakugen and dropped the blade she had in her hand. It fell into the mud and she sighed.
"I...cannot do that. I can't hurt anyone who's brought atleast some happiness into my life..."
Everyone was speechless. Even after he'd threatened to kill her? Even after he sadistically had Neji and TenTen beaten? Even though he'd made an attempt on her baby's life?
"Hi...Hinata-Chan..." Temari began.
Hinata stood up with a small sigh and walked over to Naruto her head lowered. Tears in her eyes, she looked up at him and all but whimpered,
"I...I want to go home, Naruto-Kun...I want to be with our son..."
Silently, Naruto wrapped his arms around Hinata and sighed softly. Hinata...just wasn't a murderer. If she was, she'd be exactly like her father. What stopped her from killing him, he may never find out, but for now...
"Hiashi Hyuuga...You are under arrest for violating Konohagakure's sacred rules, disturbing a gravesite and performing sacred jutsus without just cause and for your own personal reasons. Kiba, Shikamaru,"
Both shinobi looked their Hokage who nodded.
"Take him into custody."
Doing so, Gaara released the sand tomb he'd encased around Hiashi's body and Shikamaru used his shadow jutsu to subdue him while Kiba wrapped his arms in front of him and began walking him off back to Konoha. Temari walked over to Hinata and wiped her tears away with a smile.
"I'm actually...glad you didn't do it, Hinata-Chan..."
Hinata nodded with a small sigh and a faint smile. Gaara walked over to her with nod of approval before turning to Naruto.
"Well, what now?"
Naruto sighed with a small yawn. He didn't understand why Kyuubi had suddenly stopped taking hold of him, but whatever the case, he was exhausted.
"For now, let the exam students rest here for a while. Until they are fully recovered, we don't want to risk redoing the Exams."
"So, I guesst they're postponed for a while?" Temari sighed with a small nod.
"Yes."
"And the Kage Exam?"
This question came from Hinata herself. Naruto put his hand to her cheek for a moment. She was starting to feel a little warm and prayed she wasn't getting sick.
"We'll give ourselves the one week we need to fully recover. I'll discuss it with the Village Elders, but now that Hiashi is in custody, I doubt they'll have much to say against it."
Everyone nodded in agreement. By the time they'd reached Konoha, Sasuke alerted everyone the lockdown was over and placed several ANBU in front of Hiashi's holding cell. Everyone was dog tied and as Sakura ran out to greet Naruto with an umbrella, she could only smile at the sight of the Hokage carrying the Yukikage on his back. Hinata was dried off, changed and tucked into Naruto's bed moments later. Naruto himself, dressed only in a white kimono while his hair dried off, sat at his desk overlooking more paperwork. Sakura, Sasuke, Kiba, Gaara, Temari, Shikamaru and Neji all stood before him.
"Sakura-Chan, what are the extents of Hiashi Hyuuga's injuries?"
Sakura handed him the noted papers that explained everything.
"He had several lasserations all over his body, several...claw markings, three broken ribs and irriversable damage to his left arm. We may have to amputate it."
Naruto sighed a little.
"Shikamaru, what about his sentence?"
"Already cleared it with the Elders for ya, Naruto-Kun. It was troublesome though. They don't want to go to trail but more or less have you come up with a fitting punishment...from the eyes of Hokage and not a husband or a father."
Naruto groaned. Just right. So basically, the death penelty was out. He hated those old wrinkly bastards...
"If it's any consolation, Naruto-Kun, whatever you do is the last and final say." Kiba nodded.
"So, we'll plan the Chunnin Exams for when?" Gaara asked.
Naruto thought about this for a moment. They only did it this way because of fear what Hiashi Hyuuga might do and did. Naruto nodded.
"In all fairness, we'll redo them. The students might hate that, but it's only fair to how we took our exams. I'm appointing three people for each exam arena, two proctors and one medical nin if something should go wrong."
Everyone seemed to agree with that. Temari crossed her arms over her chest and tried stifling a yawn.
"Well then, I guess that's it, right? We'll just come back here for the Kage Examination in one week?"
"That's right. You guys can all go if you want. Rest up here for the night and I'll see to it that several ANBU will accompany you back to your respected cities and the injured students."
Everyone agreed and headed out, save for Neji who remained standing. Naruto sighed a little, looking at him in his pale-blue eyes.
"How are you feeling?"
Neji nodded, taking a seat with an exasperated sigh.
"Tired. I'm going to the cemetery tomorrow morning before I go back to Yukigakure."
"Okay. TenTen's due anytime soon, right?"
Neji watched his brother in law go through a few drawers before pulling out a small scroll. Naruto handed to Neji over the desk and he smiled.
"It's just a small token to show my thanks."
Neji unrolled the scroll and his eyes widened in surprise. Written on it was the offical creed to rename the Forest of Death by an alternate name: The Forest of Hizashi. Neji looked at his brother-in-law almost on the verge of tears, but sighed. He wouldn't let Naruto see his tears, no matter how happy or grateful he was. Maybe. Neji stood up and bowed his head.
"I thought you might want to have a copy of the certificate, Neji-Kun."
Naruto stood as well and put his hand on Neji's shoulder.
"Thank you for protecting Hinata for me. Thank you for watching over my child in my absence."
Neji's eyes widened before he turned his back, putting his hand over his eyes. He cursed himself for this weakness, but could it really be helped. In a half-choked voice, Neji said,
"I'll...I'll see you tomorrow morning..."
"Goodnight, Neji." Naruto nodded with a small, unseen smile by Neji's turned back.
Neji left, passing Sasuke in the process who didn't say anything about his tears. Some men just had to cry. Sasuke headed into Naruto's office with a smile.
"So, figured out what you're going to do about Hinata and Hikaru?"
Naruto shook his head, slumping back into his desk.
"As if I didn't have enough to worry about, you bastard...Thanks."
Sasuke planted himself in the chair in front of the desk and yawned.
"Well, you'd better start worrying about it now. There's no way in hell Hinata's gonna give up her position in Yuki. Not after all the time taken to restore the damn place."
"I know, I know....!" Naruto groaned.
Sasuke smirked. He loved giving the mighty Hokage such a hard time. Naruto was silent for a moment before sighing.
"I was...actually thinking of having another baby with Hinata."
Sasuke flipped out of his chair dramatically before standing up.
"WHAT?! Why?!"
"I don't know...I just would like to. Anyway, as far as being only a three-hour walk away from Yukigakure, I'm happy with that. If she lived in Suna or something, it'd be a problem. We can see each other everyday..."
Sasuke sighed, looking up at the ceiling.
"I wouldn't admit this, but I'd die if I couldn't be around my family. I couldn't live like that."
Naruto looked up at his friend, surprised he was in fact actually admitting he'd 'die' if he couldn't be around Sakura. He suppressed a grin and listened to Sasuke.
"I mean...there's no ultimatium, is there? You won't abandon being Hokage and Hinata won't abandon being Yukikage. Moreover, you both have a child. I wonder how he feels about this."
"He's THREE." Naruto reminded him.
"I had feelings when I was three, so did you. We all know the only reason Hikaru even knows who you are because you made it a point to show him who you were by visiting him everyday for the past three years. He doesn't know you as Hokage, he knows you as 'daddy'. So, you have to wonder if Hikaru notices your absence when you aren't around."
Naruto put his head on the desk with a sigh. Damn Sasuke-baka for being so insightful. Naruto raised his head and yawned a little. He was beat.
"I guess...I really don't know what to do. I know Hinata is going back tomorrow to train and continue being Yukikage."
"Is Hikaru going with her? I mean...why don't YOU take him for the week? Spend some actual quality time with him."
Sasuke stood up, realizing he needed to go home. His little monsters were probably still awake and Sakura was probably just getting home. He reached over the desk, tapping his fist with Naruto's and chuckled.
"I think you should spend a little time with Hikaru. Hinata's had him for three years. You should atleast take him for a week."
Naruto nodded, tapping his knuckles against Sasuke's own and watched his friend head out of his office, closing the door behind him. Naruto sighed, looking at the pictures of Hikaru and Hinata. He could run Konoha and watch a kid too, right? Hikaru was exactly like Hinata: A shy personality, yet adventerous like himself. Naruto stood up, turning off the light in his office and headed to bed. Upon seeing Hinata lying there, sleeping peacefully, he sat beside her with a small blush. He brushed a few strands of stray hair out of her face before planting a soft kiss on her cheek. She whispered his name in her sleep and he smiled. He gently crawled over her to sleep closer to the window before getting comfortable. As sleep claimed him, the rain, he noticed, was continuing to fall. The sound of the rain slowly lulled him into a peaceful slumber where Hikaru and Hinata were waiting for him in his dreams.
