chapter 6
Gaara stared at the moon, its pale light making his skin almost seem aglow. He turned his hands over, studying them intently. The short fingernails, time and again, were caked in blood. The fingers, having felt the pressure of squeezing a live human being to death, with his Sand Coffin.
Gently, he closed his thumb and index finger over the neck of the girl sleeping so trustfully in his arms. It would be so easy to break her neck. To take her life. To crush the fragile windpipe currently moving gently in time to her breaths. She knew too much. In all this time, all 11 years of his life since that incident happened, he never told anyone. No doubt his father knew, and perhaps one or two of his subordinates, but Gaara never thought he would tell anyone what had transpired that night, especially not a pink-haired, annoying kunoichi from another village.
She had to die.

The next morning, Sakura awoke feeling more peaceful and refreshed since her leave from Konoha. As always when she woke up, she sat for a minute, taking in her surroundings. Birds, trees, the sound of a river not too far away. All were normal. Yet, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong.
“Awake?” A velvet voice sounded softly behind her.
“Oh! Yeah, sorry for sleeping on you like that,” Sakura blushed, a little embarrassed at sleeping on someone she barely knew, for the whole night no less.
“Good. You might want to check the camp. I believe something’s happened.” With that, Gaara stood up and stepped off the branch, landing with a soft “whoompf” on the cushion of sand below.
Sakura jumped off, landing beside Gaara in a crouch. “Camp? Why? What happened?”
Gaara simply shrugged.

Shikamaru lay bound and gagged in the bushes, hands wrapped mummy-style to his sides to prevent hand seals. The two men who tied him up were currently up in the trees, lying in wait. As if on cue, Shikamaru heard Sakura rustling through the bushes and cursing.
~*~*~*~
“Shit! What the hell happened here?” Sakura looked around camp, unbelieving. Packs were lying open, contents spilling on the ground. The tent was lopsided, obviously someone had gotten tangled up in it and extracted themselves forcibly. Shikamaru was nowhere in sight.
Gaara stepped from the shadows of the trees and looked around. “Someone has been here.”
“No shit, genius,” snarled Sakura. “Who, though? And where the fuck is Shikamaru?”
She took in a breath to yell when sand clapped abruptly over her mouth.
“Quiet. We don’t know who else is in the area, so it would be foolish to draw attention to ourselves,” Gaara released the sand on her mouth but continued scanning back and forth, looking for signs of danger or anything that would shed light on what happened, when two shinobis jumped down to the ground and landed in front of Sakura.
“Sakura! What are you doing?”
“Naruto?! Shino?!”
~*~*~*~
Temari sat in the Kazekage’s chair massaging her temples, elbow on the desk. Kankurou stood beside her, leaning on her chair, quietly regarding the messenger kneeling on the ground in front of them.
“Those are the council’s orders, Kazekage-sama.” With that, the shinobi disappeared.
“Dammit!” Temari slammed a fist down on the surface of the desk. “How the hell can they say they’ve got no resources to send out men to look for my brother when the council head has 5 jounin bodyguards for himself?”
“Temari…they don’t want to look for your brother. Simple as that,” Kankurou stated matter-of-factly.
“You think I don’t fucking know that?! Jesus, Kankurou, don’t make yourself sound stupider than you look already,” Temari snarled. Her headache was turning into a vice grip on her temples.
“If you’re that worried about him then send someone of your own. The jounin of this village belong to the council, but you’ve got…connections…so use them.” Kankurou started fiddling around with his puppet with a look of extreme concentration.
Temari stilled. “Hey, Kankurou…how fast do you think you can get into Konoha?”
“Konoha? What the hell? What for?”
“We’ll see if we can’t get some Konoha shinobis to help…especially Naruto.”
~*~*~*~
Sakura, what are you doing here? Do you realize what you’ve done?” Naruto grabbed Sakura by the arms and dragged her forward.
“Naruto, wait! What the hell are you doing? And what do you mean, what I have done? What HAVE I done?” Sakura jerked her arm from Naruto’s grasp and stood there, hands on hips, glaring at the blond shinobi standing in front of her. When she received only a glare in return, she turned her gaze on Shino, standing a few feet back. “Shino, what the hell is Naruto talking about? What have I done?”
Shino cleared his throat. “Um…Sakura, I’m pretty sure you know this, but maybe it hasn’t occurred to you…” He was ready to say more, but Naruto broke in.
“You’ve made yourself into a missing-nin, Sakura!”

Sigh…yes, that took really really long. And I’m sorry. As it is, I have no idea when the next chapter will be out, but review help. They really do. ;)
Thanks for reading, and please review! Also, don’t be shy to give suggestions or ideas, I really have no idea where the story is going to do. Thanks~
