Naruto unconsciously kept looking in his mirror, making sure Kakashi was still behind him. Knowing that the Bastard-Uchiha was back in America made things a bit uncomfortable for the blond. He wanted to see if he really could trust Sasuke tonight, and if so, he would confide in him the truth about his brother.
Pulling into the parking lot of Benny’s Billiards, Naruto scanned the lot for a few empty spaces. Only a few spots were left that were the farthest from the pool hall. Steering his car into one of the spots, he turned his car off and watched as Kakashi took a spot two away from his. Naruto pocketed his keys and got out of the Buick, scanning the area for any familiar faces. The parking lot was just as busy as the pool hall itself.
Finding no one of his interest--aka no one looking like Uchiha Itachi--, he moved towards the building. The blonde felt the familiar comforting presence of his protector close behind. He and Kakashi had gotten on pretty well in the last year or two due to him wanting to find out about his past. His parents.
He pulled open the main doors and went in search of his date. Glancing over his shoulder, he watched as Kakashi headed to the bar to act as surveillance. Gaze shifting back to the rows of pool tables, Naruto’s eyes locked on to a lithe body leaning over one of the billiard tables, leather pants hugging a firm ass. The blonde self-consciously swiped his hand over his mouth to rid any drool that might have escaped in his ogling.
The stunning figure straightened as he approached, allowing Naruto to take in the sight of that strong, misleadingly-lean back. Black hair styled like no one else, Naruto found his date.
“Omata, Sasuke!” The blonde waved his hand as the dark haired teen turned to the voice calling him.
Glancing at the wall where a clock hung behind Naruto, Sasuke noted that the blonde was only a few minutes late. Shrugging his shoulders at Naruto, he handed the other boy a stick and went to collecting the balls to start a game.
Naruto glared at Sasuke for being, well… Sasuke. He sighed in defeat, realizing that he shouldn’t have expected a completely different guy than before.
*~*~*~*~*
Sasuke was glad to finally hear the blonde had arrived and when he turned to see Naruto, he was turned into a nervous high school girl on her first date with her crush. He thought about it for a second and realized that, well, he was a high school student on his first date with his crush. Nervousness was expected, but damn! Did Naruto really have to look that good tonight?!
Sasuke began to set the table and realized that he was being a right ass at Naruto by ignoring him, and if he wanted to be with Naruto, then he’d have to talk to Naruto.
“You look good tonight,” slipped past his lips. He was thankful he had long hair that fell across his face since a slight blush now dusted his cheeks.
Naruto hadn’t said anything back, and chancing a look towards the boy, he saw the blond doubled over in silent-laughter!
Completely embarrassed, Sasuke mumbled, “Shimatta,” before tossing his stick on the table and turning to leave.
*~*~*~*~*
Naruto was staring at the dark haired male, watching as he placed the balls in the correct order inside the rack. He was so smooth in the way he moved, gently rocking the rack back and forth a few good times before placing the tip on the table’s mark.
Naruto couldn’t help but think the dark haired male looked rather good tonight, those hot pants and the fishnet shirt looked really nice against his pale skin. Hearing the Gothic Prince say he looked good, at the same time he thought it, Naruto fell into a fit of giggles. He surmised it was nerves, but he laughed nonetheless. He kept them quiet as to not make a scene, but when he heard Sasuke cuss and toss his cue stick on the table, Naruto righted himself quickly and grabbed hold of Sasuke’s elbow.
“Wari Wari!” Naruto sincerely apologized.
Sasuke didn’t seem to care, and tried to pull his elbow free.
“I was laughing at myself, teme!” Naruto growled.
Sasuke looked back at him, scowl in place, not believing the blond.
A deep sigh escaped Naruto. “I’m nervous, ok?! And when you said I looked good, I just so happened to be thinking the same damn thing about you! Ok??”
Sasuke’s eyebrows shot up at hearing Naruto’s confession. He cooled his gaze and turned to walk into Naruto’s personal bubble. With a smoky voice, Sasuke asked, “You think I look good?”
Naruto watched as the dark eyes began to smolder and look deep into his. He felt a bit nervous, but realized it was a good kind of nervous. At Sasuke’s words he nodded his head. “Yeah, well, of course.” Naruto let go of Sasuke’s arm when he got closer, and started to scratch the back of his head nervously.
Sasuke leaned in to Naruto, placing his lips right next to the blonde’s ear. “Let’s play.”
Naruto’s body shuddered at the feel of the hot breath against his lobe, and the huskiness in Sasuke’s voice. He stammered, “S-Sasuke?”
Sasuke leaned back and walked past the blond, gruffly saying, “Pool, dobe.”
Naruto whipped around and glared at the bastard. He watched as Sasuke removed the rack and picked up his cue stick left on the table. Picking up a piece of chalk, Sasuke scratched the tip of his stick with it before being rewarded with the blue powder on the end.
Naruto sighed in defeat, realizing it wasn’t worth arguing while on their first date. He picked up his cue stick and watched as Sasuke set his pole up to aim at the cue ball. With a smack and clatter, the cue hit the mark and the balls scattered.
*~*~*~*~*~*
Gaara left the gym after a couple hours of weightlifting and a few laps in the pool. Feeling slightly better after having his mind on working out rather than on a worked up blonde, Gaara returned home.
He entered his house, finding his siblings sitting at the kitchen table eating dinner.
“Where’ve you been, lil’ bro?” Kankurou asked.
Gaara rolled his eyes at his over-protective brother. “Went to the gym. Is that alright with you, Kankurou?”
“Sou ka? How come Naruto isn’t over?”
“He had plans tonight.” Gaara hurried to fix his plate of what his sister must have made, and sat quickly to busy his mouth so they might not engage him in any more conversation.
“Hmm,” his sister hummed outloud. “Seems like you go to the gym a lot when you are worrying over lil’ Naruto, otouto.”
“Very true, Temari! Hell, he spent just about every day at the gym this summer, didn’t he?!” Kankurou laughed at his brother’s glare.
“Very true, Kankurou!” The blonde girl laughed at her brother’s facial expressions.
Gaara began to laugh, quite evilly if either of the Suna siblings had anything to say about it.
“What.. What is it, Gaara?” Temari asked, scooting her chair back a bit.
Gaara’s voice lowered as he growled, “My time spent at the gym means that it won’t be like the old days, you picking on me. While you were off doing your fan dancing, and you, Kankurou, playing with your puppets, I became stronger than you!”
“Calm down lil’ bro!” Kankurou held his hands up, showing he was unarmed. “We were just joking. We were hoping with school being back in session you and Naruto would start hanging out again. We like Naruto!”
“Yeah, Gaara. It was our bad for making fun.” Temari gave a heavy sigh. “We just can see you are not happy, and before Naruto and you stopped hanging out, you were very happy.”
Gaara stood and picked up his half eaten plate and shucked the last of his food into the garbage disposal. He rinsed his plate off and tossed it into the sink. The older siblings watched Gaara, eyes wide, waiting.
“Everything is fine with me and Naruto. It was just a bad day at school, and I needed to blow off some steam, ok? The subject of my going to the gym from here on out is considered taboo!” With that, Gaara left his family and went up to his room.
After closing his door gently, Gaara went to his desk to get online. He needed to keep his mind off of what Naruto was doing. He had a strange feeling, that whatever it was, it had something to do with the Goth Prince.
*~*~*~*~*~*
It was close to their time being up, and it was tied. Naruto won 2 games, and Sasuke won 2. This was the tie-breaker.
Both boys were exceptionally good, it was all the luck of how the balls scattered after the initial breaking. That, or if one would sabatoge the other by hitting balls into bad areas.
Naruto was smiling ear to ear, enjoying the evening. He and Sasuke bickered back and forth over trivial things, but they easily complimented the other on making a hard shot. Naruto couldn’t help but check on Kakashi any time Sasuke was bent over the table. The silver haired teacher usually had his back turned, or had himself engaged in conversation. But he would timely look Naruto’s way and give a reassuring nod when the blonde started to worry on whether or not his protector was really doing his job.
Looking back to the table, it was his turn and he had two balls, plus the 8 ball. He was stripes. Taking his cue and giving it one last scratch of blue chalk, he moved in position to finish the game.
Pulling back, he struck the cue ball directly to where the green and white ball sat, knocking it into the pocket. Walking to the other side of the table, lining up his cue, he knocked the blue and white ball in after it bounced off one side to land in a corner pocket.
Finding the perfect position, Naruto called out, “8 ball, side pocket.” With a tap and click, the 8 ball fell into the appropriate pocket. “Taosu!” fell from Naruto’s lips at his victory. He leaned back and smiled at his companion. “Good game, Sasuke.”
Sasuke’s eyes were looking at him, questioningly, at hearing what he whispered. He was still not sure why Naruto was using so much Japanese lately. And more out of sorts, it is the stuff that street hooligans might say.
“Sasuke?”
Shaking himself from his reverie, he looked up at the blonde who was approaching him with a worried face. “Sorry, Naruto. Kind of dazed out there.”
“Yeah, I noticed. Everything alright?” the blond placed a hand on Sasuke’s shoulder, guiding him over to a small table where they had their drinks sitting.
Taking a sip from his straw, Sasuke nodded his head. ”Yeah, long day I guess.”
“Yeah, you can say that again,” the blonde chuckled. He had been back in town for a little over a day and he was late for school, got in a verbal fight, then a physical fight, made out with his rival and then his best friend. Coming home he found out that his date’s brother was out to kill him, and now he was out on that date, worrying if said brother might show up to do said killing. Long day indeed!
“You ready to grab something to eat?” Sasuke asked while collecting the balls before heading to the front of the pool hall.
“Yeah. Where to?” Naruto followed suit and grabbed their sticks and walked beside Sasuke to take the equipment back to the counter.
“What sounds good to you?” The boys walked out to the parking lot and stood in front of Sasuke’s Mustang.
“Mm, I am craving Chinatown,” Naruto admitted. “Haven’t been there since before school got out last year.”
Sasuke’s eyes narrowed. He had almost forgot about the blond going MIA for the whole summer. He hoped during dinner Naruto would indulge and confess his whereabouts. He nodded his agreement in choice of food before asking if they should take separate cars or take one.
“We can take yours, if you’d like?” Naruto grinned. He really has been envious of Sasuke’s car since he got it a few years back. Getting to have a chance for a ride in it was not something Naruto was going to pass up.
The dark haired teen nodded and unlocked the doors. The boys climbed in and Sasuke started the car.
“Purrs like a kitten, eh?” Naruto commented.
“More like a lion cub, dobe,” Sasuke smirked as he put the car in reverse and gave a little more juice than was required to make the car roar to life.
Naruto’s lips twitched in amusement and he sat back to enjoy the ride. Sasuke switched gears and headed towards the popular Chinese establishment. The two sat in silence for a few minutes before Naruto began to get antsy and leaned over to start messing with the radio. A hand swiftly swatted it from touching anything.
“Don’t touch, dobe.”
“Why? I won’t break it,” the blond pouted at his date.
Sasuke removed his eyes away from the adorable pout Naruto was putting on for him. Bottom lip jutting out, puppy-dog-eyes quivering, and even a sniff of the nose to complete the package. He had to avoid all contact from that image otherwise he just might cave.
Sasuke hit a few buttons on his player and then turned the volume up a smidge. A haunting sound of a guitar emitted from the speakers, followed by a set rhythm of the guitar. Another joined, and then the bass and drums followed in. Not long in, the soft whispering voice came through, singing of giving water to a dead tree.
Naruto sat back as he heard the beginning of the song play. His eyes fell closed as he let the melody wash over him. “Dead Tree,” breathed out past his lips.
Sasuke shot Naruto a look of surprise. “I didn’t know you are a fan.”
The blond smiled before he opened his eyes and looked at his date. “I’ve seen them live a few times actually.”
Sasuke had to admit, he was a smidge jealous hearing Naruto had seen his favorite band before. Wondering if he saw them while overseas, as well as finding this a good way to get the blond to open up about the last three months, he asked, “Did you see them while you were in Japan this summer?”
Naruto smiled grimly. He looked out the corner of his eye and took in Sasuke’s presence. He could sense the tension the dark haired male was feeling while awaiting the answer. He kept his eyes on the road but held the steering wheel unnaturally tight. The blond closed his eyes for a second before taking in a breath.
“We’re here.”
Naruto opened his eyes to see that they were indeed at the Chinese restaurant already. He breathed out a sigh of relief and unbuckled his belt and got out of the car before the look Sasuke was giving him could make him spill his guts. Dinner was definitely going to be a long affair.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Kakashi just finished his drink when he saw Naruto and the youngest Uchiha leaving the billiards bar. He also noticed he wasn’t the only one watching them leave. A guy leaning over a pool table aiming for a shot looked to be eyeing for the right angle, but with Kakashi’s sharp eye, he could tell that this blond kid was following every move of Sasuke and Naruto. Kakashi knew he had seen the boy before. His hair was down now, but if he was correct, in Japan he tended to keep his hair in a ponytail except for a long bang.
He confirmed his assessment when he saw the blond pull out his cell phone before making his last shot. After a few words to the person on the other end, he dropped his phone back in his pocket, took his shot, and Kakashi caught his words as the ball moved towards the pocket. “Art is a…” and as the ball dropped, “bang!”
Eyes wide, Kakashi moved his way through the crowd and out the door. He rushed towards his and Naruto’s cars, heart racing in panic. He reached his car and scanned the area. He already noticed Naruto’s car hadn’t left, so he looked for the Mustang Sasuke drove. Kakashi pulled his cell out and hit a number and send, bringing the phone to his ear, his eyes never stopping their search of the blond.
He turned in a circle and finally caught sight of the shock of blond drop into the old Mustang. He held his breath and only prayed that the older Uchiha wouldn’t kill his only surviving relative. The doors closed and Kakashi heard and saw nothing for the next few seconds. People moved around him, and a voice was yelling Kakashi’s name from the phone against his ear. Nothing mattered at that moment other than what would happen once the car started. Not seconds later, he heard the car roar to life. With that, all sound rushed back to him, including the voice screaming frantically in his ear.
“Ah,” he finally said.
“Don’t you ’Ah’ me, Kakashi! What is wrong?” A female voice demanded his attention through the phone.
“Send a squad over to check on our cars. Call Chi-town, they should arrive in approximately fifteen minutes. Uchiha is definitely on the move.” Kakashi didn’t wait for an answer before he hung up and dialed someone else. “Benny’s, urgent,” he said into the receiver before hanging up once again.
Looking to the sky, he heaved a sigh of frustration before looking around the lot to see if the blond was waiting to see his art perform. Not finding anything he waited for his ride for another minute before they arrived.
After Kakashi got into the vehicle on the passenger side, he failed to see the blond now with his hair pulled back walk around a truck he was standing by. A malicious grin on his face, he turned to the cars that would have performed. “Mm, another day then, yeah?” he said, as he quickly undid his work. He was walking away when a black van pulled up behind the cars and men in bomb squad gear filed out. The blond chuckled as he slid into his car and left the scene.
*~*~*~*~*~*
Naruto and Sasuke entered the popular Chinese restaurant and went to the right where the booths lined against the wall. It wasn’t too busy, so they had their options on where to sit. Deciding on one right in the middle, the boys slid into their own side of the table.
An older Chinese woman wearing a maroon apron around her hips held a pad in hand approached the teens. “Hello. How are you?” she asked as she placed their menus in front of them.
Naruto turned a bright smile on their waitress and told her how he was. He looked to Sasuke to see if he would say anything but he was studying the Chinese Zodiac guide on the table. He smirked before turning back to the waitress.
“Drinks?” she asked.
“Mt. Dew for me please. Sasuke?”
“The same,” Sasuke said without looking up.
Naruto rolled his eyes and smiled back at the waitress and said, “Two Mt. Dews please.”
The waitress smiled before going to make their drinks.
“Is it that fascinating?” Naruto asked, resting his chin in his hand, elbow on the table.
Sasuke slowly raised his gaze to the blond. “No.”
Blond brows rose up at the answer. “Really? ’Cuz it seems that you can’t tear yourself away from it when the waitress is over.”
“I’m looking at you, isn’t that all that matters?” Sasuke leaned back and crossed his arms, an eyebrow raised.
Naruto blinked rapidly at his date. Well, he definitely wasn’t expecting that. He smiled and nodded as the waitress came back with their drinks.
“Ready to order,” she asked, pen poised at the top of the pad.
“I’ll have the Sweet ’n Sour Chicken with fried rice, please!” Naruto eagerly answered. This was his favorite place to eat and it had been too long since he ate here last.
Naruto and the waitress both looked at Sasuke.
“The same,” he said, once again, looking down at the Zodiac guide.
Naruto started laughing and apologized to the waitress. “Sorry, he’s not used to being around pretty young ladies such as yourself,” he said with a wink.
The waitress laughed and went to put in their order.
Naruto turned back to Sasuke and was shocked to see him glaring angrily towards him.
“Eh?”
“….”
Naruto took in the glare for another second and realized what it was for. He tried his hardest to keep the laugh in, really he did. But it was too much to hold in, and his laugh came loudly and with no sign of stopping any time soon.
“…” Sasuke was not amused. He folded his arms again and leaned back and waited for the blond idiot to quiet down.
Naruto couldn’t believe Sasuke was jealous over his comment to the waitress. It was too ridiculous to be true, but he witnessed it with his own eyes. He leaned back and laughed and had to hold on to his stomach for it began to ache. He then folded his arms across the table and buried his head there to try to quiet his laughs but to no avail. When he raised his head again, Sasuke was not sitting across from him anymore.
Eyes wide he turned his head to look for him and he came face to face with the Uchiha. The raven haired male’s eyes were smoldering. Naruto thought for a second Sasuke was going to beat him for laughing at him, but was pleasantly surprised when the dark eyes focused on his lips and moved in.
It was a soft kiss, yet demanding. Naruto’s eyes quickly fell shut, and his laughter was quickly dismissed. He felt Sasuke’s hand gently touch his face and his thumb trace his scars. He pulled back, the emotions being too much for him. Sasuke stayed where he was, eyes still closed for another second before opening, a look of disappointment crossing his face.
“I.. sorry. I, uh, am not used to people touching them,” the blond blushed and turned back to begin his own study of the Zodiac guide.
Sasuke’s eyes widened. “No, I’m sorry. I thought you pulled away because you didn’t want to kiss me in public.”
Naruto turned back to the Uchiha. “No, that’s fine… I just… ano… sorry.”
Sasuke placed his hand on top of Naruto’s head. The blond looked up and could see a small smile coming from him. He smiled back brightly and they both turned to look at the table and were surprised to see their food already laid out.
They both chuckled and blushed at what they just did before grabbing their chopsticks, pulling their plates closer, placing their palms together and saying, “Itadakimasu!”
*~*~*~*~*~*
The rest of dinner went without incident. Sasuke stayed sitting next to Naruto throughout dinner, both enjoying the feeling of being close.
It was close to closing time and Naruto had finally realized that during their entire meal no one entered and everyone who was in the place had soon left after they arrived. The boys had their backs to the door, but Naruto knew there was a bell that goes off anytime someone enters or exits. Taking a look around, he saw only their waitress and a cook sitting at a side table.
“Well, I think we should leave so they can close up.”
Sasuke agreed and began to scoot out of the booth. As soon as he stood up, yells from the kitchen erupted. A loud crash was heard and at the back of the restaurant, the door to the kitchens burst open and out came a tall man with slicked back short blond hair.
Naruto and Sasuke were frozen in place as the man began to laugh. It was loud and high pitched.
Sasuke blinked away his shock and grabbed Naruto’s arm but he was only able to pull him from the table before the man stopped mid-laugh to say, “Jashin-sama is on my side today!” Another bout of laughter emitted from him before saying, “My partner is outside the door, so if you even think of running you won’t get far!”
Sasuke and Naruto took a step back as the crazed man took a step forward. His hand reached into his jacket, but before he was able to pull anything out, the door leading to the bathrooms that he was standing in front of opened. Naruto caught sight of a metallic object and slipped his hand into Sasuke’s. He squeezed the hand and waited.
The tall man took another step forward, his hand pulling out a black pole, and with a flick of the wrist it elongated and ended with a sharp point. Another laugh escaped the man as he moved once again towards the teens, but his laugh was cut short as a metallic object was flung into the back of his neck from behind. His eyes widened in shock and turned around to come face to face with a tall man with shoulder length black hair, and a senbon resting between his lips.
“I don’t care which Kami you pray to, but they will never be on the same side as someone like you!” the new man said as he pulled out another senbon and threw it at the man, again getting him in the neck.
The blond stood with eyes wide before he began to laugh again. Naruto took this as their cue and ran for the front door, pulling Sasuke with him.
The last thing Sasuke saw was the two men going at it, blood flowing everywhere from the wounds in the man’s neck. Turning with Naruto, racing out the doors, they came face to face with another fight. Perplexed, Sasuke realized that one of the men fighting is none other than one of his old high school teachers, Hatake Kakashi.
Naruto stopped for a second seeing Kakashi fighting a tall man with a mask covering half his face. The build of the man looked familiar. He was sure he had to be someone they had met while in Japan. Knowing he had to get out of there, Naruto pulled on Sasuke’s hand again and ran to the car.
They both climbed in as quickly as possible, Sasuke had trouble getting the keys in the ignition from his hands shaking. He was in shock from all the blood he had seen coming from the guy in the restaurant.
“Sasuke, go! GO!” Naruto yelled, his adrenaline rising. He knew Kakashi could take care of himself, but if that was the same guy from Japan, Kakashi could be in trouble.
Sasuke finally was able to get the car started and he pulled away from the restaurant with a screech of his tires. “Where to?”
“Just… just drive for now,” the blond ran a hand through his hair before he reached into his pocket for his cell. He dialed a number and waited for the other end to answer. “Back-up at Chi-Town. Two. Yeah. I’m fine. I will. Don’t worry. Make sure you get there, ASAP!” He snapped his phone closed and dropped his head to the back of the headrest. Naruto lifted his hand to squeeze the place between his eyes. The blond turned to look at Sasuke and could see how shaken up he was. The other teen hadn’t seen real bloodshed before. Naruto reached over and took hold of Sasuke’s hand and laced their fingers before leaning his head back again.
Sasuke was startled when the blond reached for him, but his nerve endings slowly calmed having Naruto touching him. He kept driving, like Naruto said. He wondered if Naruto would ever tell him what was going on and why was Kakashi-sensei fighting that guy. After driving in no particular direction for about a half hour, Sasuke turned to Naruto to ask him if he knew where they should go next. He was not exactly surprised when he found the blond to be sleeping.
Sighing, Sasuke changed directions. After awhile, he pulled into a driveway, and parked. He tried to wake Naruto up so he wouldn’t have to carry him in, but to no avail. The blond was out like a light. He undid his and Naruto’s seatbelts and went over to the passenger side. Sasuke tried one more time to wake up the baka but nothing worked. He pulled his legs out of the car first before turning and pulling Naruto’s arms over his shoulders so the blond would fall onto Sasuke’s back.
Once he secured Naruto, Sasuke stood and closed the car door and walked up to the front of the house. He used his shoulder to bump against the doorbell and leaned against it until the front door opened. Turning, Sasuke came face to face with blue-green eyes and red hair.
“Gaara,” Sasuke nodded his peace and waited for the red head to let him in.
Gaara stood at his door in shock. Uchiha Sasuke was standing on his doorstep with a passed out Uzumaki Naruto on his back. He nodded back at Sasuke and opened the door to let the dark haired teen pass with the blond. Sasuke turned and waited for Gaara to close the door so he could find a place to put Naruto.
“Upstairs.” Gaara led the way up the steps, Sasuke in tow. Gaara entered his bedroom, and pointed to his bed. He turned and closed the door and watched as Sasuke gently lowered Naruto to the bed he was on with Gaara not more than five hours ago.
Sasuke sat on the edge next to Naruto, looking at the sleeping face of the man he’d been obsessing over for the last few years. He pushed back a stray hair on the blond’s face before turning and finding Gaara sitting at his computer, glaring at Sasuke from his seat.
“It’s been a long night,” Sasuke sighed, a laugh emitting from him.
Gaara’s eyes widened at the laugh. It sounded like the night had not gone well.
“Care to share?”
Sasuke looked up at the red head. “Can I get a glass of water first?”
Gaara narrowed his eyes, but being a good host, even if it was with his competition in love, he stood to retrieve a glass from the kitchen.
“I’ll be right back.”
Sasuke nodded and closed his eyes. The weight of the night coming down on him. He stretched out beside Naruto and his whole body relaxed.
Gaara walked in a minute later with a glass of ice water to find the Uchiha passed out beside Naruto. Slamming the glass of water on his computer desk, Gaara turned and walked out of his room, letting the door close with a soft click. His back against the door, he slid to the floor, his hands roughly rubbed his face as the day’s events came crashing down on him.
