The Hitch Arc: Chapter 5

Naruto Shippuuden: The Hitch Arc

Chapter 5

Disclaimer: They sabotaged my computer and thwarted my evil plans to take over the series... I don’t own it yet, I may never at this rate...

Authors Notes: I won’t regale you on details, but I kinda didn’t have the time to do any writing. IRL issues, what can I say? :P Well, whatever, things should be returning to normal for me very shortly so here’s another chapter ^^

...On with the fic!

~

Hyuga Neji had just returned home from a supremely successful A-ranked mission. Hyuga Neji was greeted by a particularly “friendly” Tenten upon his return, who, rather impatiently, had dragged him off to her apartment and, in all respects, fucked him good. The term was appropriate, especially considering the circumstance of their arrangement, being Tenten’s definition of “fuck buddies”. Hyuga Neji was fine with it too, after all it benefited the both of them, and saved them both from that awful trap and bane of Shinobi called a relationship. This particular event, however, had not sat well for the Hyuga Jounin prodigy, as he’d received particularly alarming and angering information during their mandatory “afterglow cuddle” which had normally been a pleasant staple since it usually lead to even more fucking.

Hyuga Neji had gotten dressed fairly quickly upon hear the news.

Hyuga Neji then ran.

See Hyuga Neji run.

Run Neji run.

Unfortunately, neither Naruto nor Hinata could see Neji run, and even more unfortunate for Naruto, was the fact that Hinata was no where near him to protect him, or even warn him about the kunai and explosive tag which had landed a few feet in front of him. Luckily, his training and skill had allowed him to avoid the blast and escape to the roof of a nearby building. Confused, Naruto looked around for his attacker.

“Bastard!”

Naruto winced at the voice, leaping back to avoid the six shuriken flying towards him and he knew exactly who his assailant was. “Neji-san!” he shouted and blocked the open handed strike towards his chest.

With a growl and another attack which was to be blocked, Neji glared at Naruto, “Don’t Neji-san me, bastard! How dare you do that to Hinata-sama!” He spun, using a variation of his kaiten to send Naruto flying.

With a groan Naruto rubbed his back and peeled himself off of the roof only to be greeted by the sound of a kunai being drawn. “Oiy, Neji-san, you’re being a bit hasty ne?” his only response to that was to throw the kunai directly at a kill spot, forcing Naruto to move.

“Bastard! Die!” Neji then let loose a series of kunai with explosive tags and Naruto’s eyes widened. The ensuing explosions were loud and noticeable, almost resembling a fireworks display in the middle of the day. Luckily, or unluckily in Neji’s case, Naruto was quick and he managed to avoid the explosions.

The fight however, had now managed to gain the attention of nearly everyone in the village including a certain Fifth Hokage, and a suddenly worried Hinata, who both high-tailed it to the two combatants. Tsunade was particularly annoyed, somehow assuming that whatever had triggered the fight, Naruto was the direct cause.

Naruto hadn’t dared be as naïve as he’d previously been with his plea for Neji to “talk” about things with him and using the explosion as a cover, created and deployed a dozen Kage Bunshin. He was familiar with Neji’s combat style after all, he’d fought and beaten him, and as such he knew what Neji could and couldn’t identify with his Byakugan. Such knowledge present, Naruto had three hiding underground, two behind buildings, four running off in various directions, and the remainder surrounding Neji, the real him present as well.

Neji regarded the visible clones incredulously, “Crafty bastard, I’ll just defeat every last one of them!” he declared rather haughtily, despite having lost to Naruto once before. He knew Naruto was no where near the assigned rank of Chuunin anymore, his defeat of an Akatsuki member was evidence of that; however, he was just a commoner, talented, but not a Hyuga. Unfortunately for Neji though, he wasn’t going to be able to demonstrate the elite clan’s strength.

“Naruto, what the hell are you doing!? BAKA!”

With a startled blink, one of Naruto’s clones turned to face a dainty finger before it flicked against his forehead and sent him flying into a chain of clones, canceling them. Annoyed, the real Naruto popped out of the ground and regarded his Hokage, “What am I doing? What are you doing helping him!?”

At this point Neji was left to fume, having realized the turn of the situation. Now, there was no way he could touch Naruto. At least not with Tsunade there, who, in most regards was his “older” sister. If there was ever a protected Shinobi in Konoha aside from the Hokage, the Hyuga heir, and perhaps Sakura, it was Uzumaki Naruto. Mess with him too much and word managed to get to Tsunade, at some point there would be hell to pay. With a grumble, Neji’s Byakugan was deactivated, “Feh.”

“Naruto-kun!” Hinata called out as she rounded a corner and grabbed onto him, hugging him right, “Are you alright?”

Naruto smiled, flexing his right arm, “Of course!” he reassured her before returning her embrace.

As the scene unfolded, Tsunade watched carefully, looking from Hinata and Naruto to the vexed Neji, eyebrows furrowed all the while. It struck her odd the Hyuga Heiress being so close to Naruto without fainting, though it hadn’t taken her long to piece together everything. Though, while she was happy for Hinata as only another woman could be, she also knew the can of worms that had suddenly been opened. “Uzumaki Naruto, Hyuga Hinata, and Hyuga Neji, get to my office, right now.” She ordered the trio is a rather annoyed tone; there just went her nice, quiet day.

**

“I can only guess what this is all about, but I have a feeling my guess would be right. What I want now is explanations, first from you Neji, you blew open several roofs.” Tsunade said sternly, her annoyance most apparent.

“There is no excuse for my actions Hokage-sama.” Neji said as politely and formally as possible, “However, the reasons behind my actions is that,” he said, suddenly angrier as he pointed towards Naruto, “bastards dishonoring the Hyuga clan.”

Tsunade glared at Neji, “They’re seeing each other Neji, I fail to see why Hinata would be so dishonored dating an established shinobi like Naruto.” She said defensively.

Neji clenched his teeth, “Dating would be fine, but it’s much more than that.” He said, shooting an accusatory glare at Naruto.

Shizune who was naturally present, didn’t seem to believe the idea, after all it was Naruto and Hinata in question. “You must be mistaken Neji-san, I can’t believe such a thing.”

“Neither could I,” Neji sneered, “but I trust my source, and I have names of witnesses!”

At the mentioning of possible witnesses, Shizune nearly died. As for Tsunade, one mustn’t forget her many years worth of knowledge, especially in “simple” matters such as this. It hadn’t taken her more than a mere glance at Hinata to notice. She decided to ignore the exchange between Shizune and Neji, focusing her attention on both Naruto and Hinata. “What do you two have to say for yourselves?”

Hinata began to blush, her index fingers pressed together as she struggled to answer the Hokages inquiry. “Well, Naruto-kun and I... we... and...” she was stopped however, when Naruto’s hands rested on her shoulders, offering a slight reassuring squeeze.

“I love Hinata-chan and nothing’s ever gonna change that!” Naruto declared charismatic resolve at its peak. “I don’t care what Neji-san, her father, or even what you say, baa-chan!” despite the determination present, in his words, or the sincerity, his typical confident grin was there, wide across his face, exuding his contagious confidence. It was one of those moments that left one little doubt in their mind, that the blonde would indeed one day become Hokage. But, at that moment, there was no doubt in anyone’s minds that Naruto did indeed love Hinata, and if they’d asked, he would have told them he’d even give up his dream of being Hokage for her.

Shizune smiled fondly at Naruto, slightly envious of the boy and Hinata, it wasn’t often a shinobi found love, and she herself had given up on the prospect many years ago, and like Tsunade, had reserved herself to perfecting her medical techniques. Tsunade, however, only managed a frown at Naruto’s declaration, frustration evident. “Baka, things are more complicated than that!”

“So what,” Naruto retorted, oblivious to what she was trying to allude to, “I don’t care about any problems, if you can’t deal with them, I will!”

Tsunade bit her lip, refraining from striking down Naruto, despite her obvious desire to, “Come back tomorrow, I need to think on this.” She said simply, motioning for Shizune to usher the three out. “And Neji-san, behave. That’s your only warning.” She then sighed, reaching into her drawer and blatantly shuffled around for her bottle of sake. She needed a drink. Well, more than a drink, she needed a lot of drinks.

~

The three shinobi exited the Hokages office and came to a silent halt in the hallway, Neji, being the one who’d urged the break. “Naruto... you love Hinata-sama don’t you?”

Naruto could only grin at this, “Baka, of course I do, didn’t you hear me in there?”

“Na-Naruto-kun, I love you too.” Hinata replied, unsure what else to say or do, aside from what her body was currently willing her to, and that was to faint from the sudden attention. Attention was not something she was used to after all, even in the Hyuga household; it had seemed that her father focused on Neji and Hanabi more than her, almost as if he’d simply given up on the heiress. She smiled at him and for a moment the two could only grin at each other, Neji’s presence nearly completely lost in their brief moment, at least until he made a sound half way between voiced annoyance and a sigh.

“Hinata-sama...” Neji began; Tsunade had calmed him down, and in light of the current disposition of the couple before him, even he felt a little guilty of his previous actions. Perhaps another source of his guilt, the part that fueled him in his acquired role of guardian and protector to both Hinata and Hanabi, were the memories of his misguided actions at the chuunin exams. Tenten had often told him it was a side of him she never wanted to have to see, to put it in a simple term, something that didn’t suit him. “You know what Tsunade-sama means, right? Hiashi-dono will not be happy with this.”

Hinata merely nodded, looking down slowly, “Ye-yes... I know but... this is what I want Neji-kun.” Then, in a flash her hand reached out and grabbed hold of her startled cousins, “I’m not giving up.” She told him, her voice strong despite the volume, “It’s my decision, and my way of the ninja.”

Naruto didn’t seem at all surprised, though he was impressed, “See Neji-san, I told you she was strong.”

Neji was at a complete loss for words, and as Hinata’s determined eyes stared up at him, the same eyes that she’d looked at him with during their match in the chuunin exams, he felt himself cave. “I’ll help you.”

The response shocked Hinata back into normality, “Really?”

“Yes.”

Hinata almost hugged him, though she held herself back, he was still Neji after all; there were some things that even he wouldn’t let slide, in public at least.

“Ne, isn’t your dad back tonight Hinata-chan?”

“Ye-yes,” she told him, the mentioning of her father bringing her down from her previous confidence. It wasn’t that she was going to back on her word, she wouldn’t do that, but she didn’t know what she was going to do about him either. Truthfully, she’d been trying to ignore that little fact, however evasive that really was.

Naruto grinned, “Great, I’ll just ask him for your hand in marriage then.”

“M-m-m-marriage?” Hinata stuttered and began to blush a bright red, looking from between Naruto and the ground at her feet. Apparently Neji was a little more coherent at the moment; it would seem thoughts of such a ridiculous idea weren’t dancing around his head and if they were, he was going off about the complications behind all of that. What her cousin was telling Naruto, she didn’t know, nor did she immediately care, she wasn’t able to concentrate very well at the moment. In her minds eye she could see the wedding, what both her and Naruto would be wearing, the Hokage off to the side, obviously happy, though still muttering to herself just how much of a problem Naruto was and how difficult he was to deal with. She then fast forwarded to their wedding night... Oh, that was a nice thought, come to think of it; she really wanted to be with Naruto again... Then it all went dark and she felt herself go limp and fall to the ground with a thump, a blissfully happy smile upon her lips.

“Baka, you think Hiashi-dono would ju- Hinata-sama!”

“Oiy Hinata-chan!”

So call that the end of this chapter, the next one is already almost done, but for the content, I felt it more appropriate to be in its own. Once again sorry for the delay, but IRL has priority for me; let’s just say I’d been meeting with a lawyer for a while hence my absence. Thanks for the kind reviews and everything as well, keep ‘em coming, they are nice to see...

And wow, 13,000 hits? I’m glad people are reading it/checking up on it so much. I really am sorry for the delay, I may get to explaining to what I’ve been up to, but... yeah, we’ll see.

With the next chapter installment you’ll get another sort of “treat” as well as some rather interesting... tactics.

Alright, thanks for reading, and as always, reviews and such are loved. <3
