Placing the spoon in the sink, Itachi picked up the two steaming mugs of hot chocolate and made his way into the living room, only to find that his little brother was sitting a little too close for comfort to the fireplace.

“Sasuke?” he asked setting down the mugs on the small table, pausing as he noticed that the younger Uchiha actually seemed to be doing something near the fireplace. “What are you up to?”

“Roasting marshmallows,” came the simple response.

“…You’re roasting marshmallows?” Itachi repeated, eyes taking in the stick his brother was holding that was firmly being thrust into and waved around haphazardly inside the flames.

“Ah,” Sasuke affirmed.

“Using Grandma’s knitting needles?”

“Ah.”

“That you taped together?”

“Ah.”

Well, at least that much made sense. “Why?” Itachi asked.

“For the cocoa,” Sasuke explained simply, watching as he accidentally launched his marshmallow off the stick and onto the brick wall in the back of the fireplace. Taking a moment to lament over the loss, the boy quickly got over it and marched over to the bag of fluffed up sugar and dutifully stuck a new one on the stick before returning to his task.

“You know,” Itachi said after a moment as he settled down on the floor, his back leaning against one of the armchairs, “normally you only roast marshmallows for s’mores.”

An odd glance was sent his way. “But we’re not having s’mores.”

“No, we’re not,” Itachi agreed. “We’re having hot chocolate. So why are you roasting the marshmallows?”

“Well, you cooked the hot chocolate, right?” Sasuke asked, making his way over to his cup and pushing the now-gooey mess into his drink. “So why can’t I cook my marshmallows?”

Itachi remained silent, not exactly sure as to how he could refute that.

“You have a point,” he finally relented. “Roast me one up as well.”
